Laura Dern's character is probably the most interesting to me.
Specifically that she's Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, which is absolute confirmation that she holds a military rank. The Vanity Fair article describes her as an officer in the Resistance, but I kind of wonder if it's more a case of the remnants of the New Republic fleet being folded into the Resistance. Those Starhawks we saw in the trailer had to come from somewhere after all.
Well it's obviously intentional, Lucasfilm doesn't exactly put together character wardrobes purely by accident.
The question is more a matter of "is Amilyn Holdo's look reflective of the setting the character inhabits, or the character herself?"
I could be a case where we either meet her on Canto Bight, or at least that's where she spends the bulk of her story arc, and she naturally looks like someone who hangs around on Canto Bight. Or alternatively, like Leia, she's heavily tied to the noble houses of the Galaxy and presents herself as such regardless of what she's doing at the time.
I'm getting a vaguely steampunky aesthetic from those pictures, which is something I wholeheartedly approve of. Although it's weird to go for such an odd look in a mainline episode now that we have side films.
I'd contribute to the DJ jokes, but the best I can come up with is Darn Jokesters. Must have used up all my creativity trying to act neurotypical at college today.
but HOW?Really? I can see it if I squint but otherwise it looks like the standard Used Future aesthetic.
The tailoring's a bit Victorian/Edwardian, sure. I could see that.
Dadmiral Knows Best, a few family comedy coming this fall on Disney Channel.
...with Vergere as the mother and Jacen Solo as their son, and the Vong are the wacky neighbours always busting in unexpectedly.

I love-love-love the photo of Luke & Leia.
Regarding Leia's cloak: gives me a strong vibe of mourning clothes. She did just lose Han.
The article said something about how we haven't seen the fancy side of the galaxy, and I was like, "I know people don't like the Prequels, but come on. Naboo? Coruscant? Either of those ring a bell?"
@2361, @2362: Yeah, cracks me up that Poe & Finn are all serious and Rose is just glee.
Google says Daisy Ridley is 5'7" and Mark Hamill is 5'9", so it does look like they're trying to make him look taller somehow. Her legs are sort of bent, so they're probably pulling some LOTR-style camera angle shenanigans.
Actually, it sort of looks like his feet aren't really planted on the ground, so maybe there's some kind of special chair/wirework contraption involved for this shot, to preserve whatever height differential they're using scully boxes for in the main film. Or something.

Ouch.
