I think '"Rise of Resistance" has a better vibe to it, although come to think of it, the third film would do nicely with "Rebirth of [x]" following a Revengeofthe Sith and Return Of The Jedi.
Rebirth of the Force perhaps?
They've officially confirmed Benicio Del Toro
, as well as Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.

I think the reason it's called "The Resistance Rises" is because it's an Interquel. IIRC, They've told us it takes place between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens. Thus, it's about the Resistance rising to be an independent power, or something.
"The Resistance Rises" would be a silly name for a sequel to a movie where the Resistance is doing great and just struck a fantastic victory. What is there to Rise from? They're already on top.

Oh.
Well, I'm still going to call this a victory for correctly deducing what was already confirmed.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Laura Dern=AWESOME!! Nice surprise there. Also Kelly Marie Tran (who I'm assuming is playing that new female role that Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tatiana Maslany, etc were rumored for) intrigues me, as I know nothing about her (I knew nothing about Daisy Ridley pre-TFA either and that worked out REALLY well as it turned out).
The teaser is interesting. So will Rian pick up immediately after TFA (it'd be a shame to skip over that first conversation between Luke and Rey after all), or will he employ non-linear storytelling again, hmm?
Well in my experience, fandom (and especially online fandom) will complain no matter what you do. They complain that something is a "rehash" or "too familiar," and claim that they want something new. But then when they get it, they complain that it's "too different" and "that's not really SW." And it's hardly unique to SW, fandom seems to not know what it truly wants a lot of the time.
So, if you're a writer/filmmaker, your best bet is probably just to make the film that YOU think will be best, and then let the chips fall where they may.
If it starts directly from the end of TFA, the opening crawl is going to be pretty short.

As things stand right now, here's my theory on who the 3 new characters are.
Laura Dern's character will be a senator and a political ally of General Leia and the only such ally in the New Republic's senate to escape the destruction of Hosnan Prime. Trying to make her the new Chancellor will be a major plot point in the movie.
Kelly Marie Tran's character could potentially be Finn's love interest, and will most likely enter the story through his side of the movie's initial stages, but her character's biggest contribution to the story will be being Rey's future apprentice. The idea I'm working with is that the movie begins with Rey being trained by Luke, and ends with Rey training Kelly Marie Tran's character (potentially among others). Luke being either dead or otherwise incapable of directly training people by this point.
I see two strong possibilities for Benicio Del Toro's character. The first is that he's a political opponent of General Leia in the New Republic and believes the Resistance instigated the war with the First Order. He's either trying to serve up the Resistance to the First Order as a means of making peace, or has adopted a strategy that Leia and the rest of the Resistance knows is going to cause a lot more problems then it solves.
The second possibility is that he's Grand Admiral Thrawn or an expy of him. In this case he might not even be a villain at all (or is at least an anti-villain) and brings the "official" Imperial Remnant into the war on the side of the New Republic. That might not actually be a good thing for the New Republic in the long run, but it could add a little complexity to the mix. Or alternatively he could be trying to reestablish the Imperial Remnant as a legitimate Galactic power and hit both the weakened New Republic and the now Starkiller-less First Order.
Laura Dern and BDT could play pretty much any kind of role, they're that good. And Tran have primarily a comedic background makes me kind of want to see her play a villain, or at least a more serious kind of role in general. It'd be a nice change of pace for her.
Plus it took us SEVEN movies to finally get an awesome FS/potential Jedi female main hero. Now, time for the villains to get their shot, be it Dern or Tran.
Some people are speculating that Laura Dern might be playing Evaan Verlaine
, Leia's old bodyguard and leader of the remaining Alderaanians left in the galaxy.
I'd be willing to theorize that Kelly Marie Tran's character was going to be two different characters who got composited into a single role in the big rewrite they did.
If the characters weren't all that different, or at least played roles that weren't mutually exclusive, I could see the writers decide that by combining the roles they could include at least one fully-formed character without taking away too much focus from the main trio.

If Rian Johnson can utilized Chewie even, half as well as JJ did in TFA, then I'd be very happy.
