Nice to know that the new EU is just as dedicated to ridiculously overexplaining shit as the old one was, I guess.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Why are the simpler explanations never used? “Oh great, Darth Flanders is here and I have to hear him prattle about the Force when discussing stuff. I’m gonna give him a piece of my ACH URK HUGH...”
“Well, that was stupid. I have seen the light and it hurts my trachea.”

Then he walked off muttering to himself. "Seriously, guys, we were common knowledge just twenty years ago. Do you know how many people knew about the Jedi Mind Trick during the Republic Era? Everyone. Literally everyone. There was one whole week where I couldn't go twenty minutes without someone bragging about how my powers wouldn't work on their strong will! I later found out that Ahsoka was making them come up to me and say that with the Mind Trick, but that's beside the point."
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Just going by the movies, the Star Wars galaxy doesn't seem to have any sort of mass media; I don't think we ever see anyone pick up a newspaper or turn on a television program. So the only way information travels is by word of mouth. That means there's no reliable source of information that can be distinguished from widespread rumors. So it's possible for everyone in the Galaxy to have heard of the Jedi Mind Trick, but for the skeptics in the population to dismiss that as an exaggerated story.
The movies don't show mainstream media because it's a waste of screentime. We've seen basic news broadcasts and the like in the cartoons. And even if we hadn't, we have seen the movies use instantaneous communication between distant parts of the galaxy.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.This. Is the best interpretation of that scene I've came across.
You know what, have a MOFW.

From what I heard I thought that the canonicity of the stories in From a Certain point of view should be treated on a broad strokes, case by case basis. "Some are. Some aren't. Some might be. Some might not be. Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."

In the EU, that exchange takes a different tack-Motti believes in the Force and knows Vader is a Sith Lord, as well as what he is capable of. His comment takes on a religious dispute context, as Motti is a man of faith-specifically, a Force-worshipping religion unassociated with either the Sith or Jedi. His comment has a personally offended tone for what he perceives as Vader proselytizing his faith to the detriment of other views of the Force, while the Empire is ostensibly inclusionary (but in practice Atheist, officially denying the existence of the Force). This is framed as a nastily worded personal report from Motti to Tarkin in one of the new short stories, with Motti whining and complaining to the only person around capable of pulling rank on Vader.
