It was her first appearance so I would give it time. Too me, Aerith is coming off a Parody of the Purity Sue she's been Flanderized into after the original game. The ending of episode 4 showed that there are cracks to her facade and we'll probably see more of it going forward, especially with the Don Corneo scene.

I really don't think it's a crack in her façade. That would imply that it's all an act.
Aerith is a deconstruction of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl; a magical Chosen One pixie girl who's too perfect for this world who was ostensibly supposed to pull the male protagonist out of his issues and teach him to cope with the world - but instead, abandons him to fulfill her more important objectives instead, having bigger and more pressing matters to attend to than fixing the protagonist's life. This ultimately leaves him to spiral deeper into his emotional quagmire until someone more grounded in reality can help give him the kick in the ass needed to pull his life together.
Team Four Star is playing up the initial Manic Pixie Dream Girl impression. Her response to Tifa is part of that; she is immediately possessive of the protagonist she's known for maybe five minutes and will fight to the death to defend her claim because she is every female lead in every male-aimed anime ever written.
That, "Oh my god, this character is obnoxious," reaction is exactly how the rest of us feel when anime buffs go on about their favorite Tsundere.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Really they should have played the opposite, Tifa be the extreme manipulative girly girl while Aeris be the closet tomboy who will beat the crap out of you. Basically extreme up already present characteristics.
Right now as it stands everyone is played strictly to their stereotype.

Aeris is certainly sticking to the Purity Sue stereotype (which I'm complaining about precisely because the original character didn't fit the stereotype, regardless of how the fandom thinks of her or later works have Flanderized that aspect of her), but do people actually see Tifa as a crass, manipulative, emotionally abusive Lad-ette? I mean, you can make the argument that she's manipulative and emotionally abusive, given her and Cloud's shared history and how she treats him (knowing what she does) in the first disc or so of the game, but she's always been the proper, polite, demure one, compared to Aeris's more outgoing personality (and Yuffie's outright aggressive rudeness, if you want to count her).
This is actually getting funnier. I enjoyed that episode.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!I remember they talked about how they wanted to handle it with care not to offend anybody. But damn that was funny.
Me and my friend's collaborative webcomic: Forged MenThough now I'm wondering what Tifa's reaction will be when she sees Cloud.
Didn't have a problem with the start, (and I feel the complaints about them changing characters is as pointless as complaining that they changed Dodoria to a woman, made Zarbon campy instead of just a pretty boy, gave the Ginyu Force more character/sympathy, made King Kai a much bigger badass, etc. It's their adaptation, let them handle the characters as they wish as long as it's handled well and makes sense in the adaptation) but I do feel the quality is picking up. The first couple of videos were ok, the last two are showing improvement.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |I feel the opposite. First two were amazing for me, the next couple seemed kinda meh. Haven't seen the most recent, though, so maybe it'll get back to form by then.
Update: watched episode 5. Started out meh (Aerith is still incredibly grating), got better with every next person team Cloud talked to. Swolceptance from the swol lord. I dunno what it means, but I think it's fantastic.

but HOW?That was absolutely hilarious.
Also, fun fact: The receptionist is voiced by YamatoSFX who also voiced Kirito in SAO Abridged
(which also features Taka as Kayaba).
I loved Tifa in this episode. This is about what I was expecting once the plot started kicking off: now that she's got more to do than browbeat Cloud into joining their terrorist group and gets to be Tifa towards more characters, she's more entertaining.
A Jerk with a Heart of Gold is more fun at war than at peace because at peace they have nobody to take out their Jerkness on except the other people at peace. They really shine once the journey's on and they can turn their dickishness from antagonizing other protagonists to stylishly ripping on antagonists.
Tifa only got to do a little bit of that during this episode but she also got to rip on Aerith too. Which isn't to say Aerith deserved it, but it's a matter of variety. She has more people to rip on than just Cloud.
Also, "Grape is high in VITAMIN D!" That was clever. Two points to Tifa, even if Cloud did beat her to the punch.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I put a comment last night about Don Corneo paying his receptionist with donations to the Kirito is Always Right Foundation, and I was surprised to find that as of this morning, it was the top comment with 436 upvotes. I'm not sure why my "Lol Kirito is the receptionist" comment blew up like that when there were dozens of other people saying something similar, but getting the top comment on a Team Four Star video is something, I guess.
Cortex should take a 12-step plan off a 10-step pierGotta say, I kinda sympathized with Tifa being a bitch this time around. Cloud wasn't taking dropping Sector 7 nearly as seriously as he ought to have been, and Aerith still makes me want to toss her off a building. >_>
Also, Tseng as Hans Gruber is an interesting choice. I don't think Kaiser's quite able to pull it off, but he does a good job trying.
but HOW?![]()
Or once every fortnight.
I really enjoyed this episode. They've been getting better and better. Them doing a Mortal Kombat X-style x-ray shot for Tifa punching Reno in the dick was great. I wonder if we're actually going to see some serious character development as the series goes on since Tifa needs to give a shit about Cloud eventually.
It worked regardless.
