Institute Interior

The towering computers lining the BioScience began shutting down one by one as the damage from the battle continued. The four Coursers remained behind cover, while the three elite synths remained out in the open.

The regular synth patrollers, lacking any sense of self-preservation, simply stood and fired until they were either taken out by stray shots or destroyed when the second Dark Trooper overheated and exploded. All that was left of the Institute's forces in the main BioScience laboratory were four Coursers, two of the elite synths in black armor, and the supposed 'commander' who hadn't come out of hiding since he gave his original order. Now that they weren't being distracted by their own allies, the Coursers started firing precision shots towards any forces who converged to protect Major Holst.

"This is incredible. The landmass has shifted in a matter of seconds!" Cyborg said as he checked his censors that updated the map. "Raven, this "Cure" might be a lot stronger than your dad."

Robin crossed his arms and then he explained the situation to the team."

"I'll go." Robin said "As a leader it's my duty to take care of all you,"

"Empire? Space Station? This sounds a lot like that show Control freak liked: "Star battlefront or something... Cyborg said

"Yeah the one with the laser swords." Beast boy put his hands together and then he began to spin as if he had a light saber in his hands.

"Robin, I know you feel responsible but I think someone else should go" Raven said with her arms crossed.

"Uh What do you mean?" Robin asked with a frown.

"We all have an area we excel at. If this was a magical enemy I would go, if it was a tech enemy Cyborg would go..."

"But this is a threat from space so I shall go." Starfire interrupted.

"Star..." Robin said with his eyes wide open.

"I will be fine. It is my honor to fight for my friends," Starfire gave a last glance to her team.

"Please be careful Star," Robin touched her shoulder "ok?"

"I will." Starfire replied with a smile.

Starfire closed her eyes and then she gave a deep breath. She walked two step forward and then she said.

"Mister Cure, I am ready."

At the Mouth of a Cave
"You know, after thinking about it a little, maybe death won't be as bad as I thought it might be."

Travelling under the cover of night, it had been meagre pickings for Rin Kaenbyou. Three graveyards checked and she could only find one fresh corpse, everything else old, rotten bones barely worth burning. However, there was a definite bright side to all of this: This one soul had been very happy to talk to someone.

"Really? I'm glad you came to that conclusion," said Orin as she looked down at the wheelbarrow, her passenger covered under an old rag of a cloth. "I tell most people that, but they don't listen. They're all too attached to the world, and they think that the next one is going to be scary. I visit there all the time, and it ain't scary at all."

"Naw, I don't think I'm too worried," the soul said, sounding pretty chill with what's going on. "Didn't have much to leave behind, y'see."

A long pause. Even if the spirit couldn't emote, it tried to flex what muscles it used to have and make how awkward this was evident.

More time afterwards, and the spirit relented. "...Do you wanna hear about it?" Rin perked up as she realized what was going on, and as she walked into the cave leading down to their destination she said, "Yeah, yeah. I just thought it might be a touchy subject, or you were gonna talk about it yourse-"

Both Rin and the hellbound soul lost consciousness at the same time, which is quite something considering most people are convinced that souls are the embodiment of consciousnesses. Evidently there is something more to be found when it comes to the function and form of souls, but we'll leave that research to our friendly cat corpse hauler.

"...stopped moving?" Rin managed to fall face first on the cave floor, so as she got up she rubbed her stinging cheek. Whatever happened, she must've been out for a while because a little daylight was streaming into the cave. The contents of her cart were scattered when she lost consciousness, the corpse of her temporary friend splayed out with only a strategic covering of cloth preserving what modesty one can have while dead. The kasha got flustered, and said, "Ah, hell, just...just hold on a second, mister, we'll get moving again."

She went over and grabbed the dead man by the shoulders, tried to haul him up in the cart...and noticed something. Out in the distance, she could squint past the bright daylight and see something unfamiliar: shining towers of glass, gleaming in the sunlight.

Something must've gone very, very wrong when she was out.

What embarrassment she had was quickly ignored, because if there was one person who needed to see this and figure it out, it was Satori! She haphazardly shoved her corpse back into the cart and started speeding down the road, the wooden wheel of her barrow spinning fast as it bumped along the cobble. "Okay, whatever your name is, if you've got to say that life story to me, make it quick! The second I get home I'm dumping you in the furnace, something's happened!" The spirit replied back, "Ah of course. I began as a-wait, what furnace?"

Chireiden, The Palace of Earth Spirits
Unlike usual procedure she just upended her payload into the courtyard's hole, giving the man a very informal sendoff as he fell far down into his new residence. Not even bothering to say goodbye and having ignored his increasingly panicked questions, she didn't so much as fly through the heavy doors leading into Chireiden as much as kick them down. "SATORI! This is impor-eh?"

Few things would've stopped her from revealing this very critical information, but the odd sight before her certainly did. Her master was staring back at her bemusedly, one foot already sticking into a shining blue portal and a scroll in her hand. Okuu had Koishi held over her shoulder, and said Koishi waved at her like nothing was going on. Odd enough of all, Yuugi Hoshiguma was here, being one of the few oni on speaking terms with Satori but still not enjoying her company, and she seemed like she was about to follow Satori through the portal.

"Orin, I've told you not to yell in the house. Cut that out," Satori said as she stepped back from the portal. "I'm sure you're here to tell me about something, but I think I'm aware of it." In a fit of uncharacteristic indecision, Rin stood in the doorway trying to come up with something to say, but Satori once again spoke up for her. "Yes, this is about those towers, and something much more dire. Now, if you'll stay behind and watch Koishi with Okuu, it'll be appreciated." She stepped through the portal again, grimly saying "Don't want her wandering around during an incident, if I can't help it," before vanishing entirely. It didn't take a satori to tell that Rin was left confused and frightened after that, so Yuugi walked over and placed a hand on her shoulder, kneeling down to her height. "Look, I don't what's going on either. Okuu can fill you in, though, she was here while this started. Whatever happens, though, I'll make sure that your Satori comes back safely. It's a promise." She extended a hand, and Rin reluctantly shook it, saying "Y-yeah. Sure..."

A few seconds later, Rin was now left alone with her two friends, and as much as she loved them she was doubtful that either would be able to tell her what was going on. Okuu did step up to the challenge though, and quickly started explaining. "Okay, Orin! It's pretty simple, really, Koishi had managed to accidentally break into a fireworks stand, and Yuugi was there-"

"Wait, how did fireworks cause all of that?" said Rin, incredulous. "Oh, that's not the portal part, I was just explaining why Yuugi was in the house. Koishi isn't in trouble with the authorities or anything, that's the important part." Koishi nodded, her back turned to Rin as she was still over the shoulder of the raven, and said "Yep! Everything's fine so far!"

Satori & Yuugi, The Common Room
It was terribly rude to leave Rin like that, but Satori could tell that if someone could move all of Gensokyo they probably didn't have enough patience. Explaining things to your pet cat could come after business, even if she could tell just how frightened she was by what was going on. Everyone was a little on-edge, even the oni standing next to her. She did her best to hide it, but her worries were less personal, and more towards what would be happening to all of Former Hell in a new world. How noble.

The image of shining towers in the distance was the only thing Rin thought that could've surprised her. For all she knew, that was a feature unique to the outside world, with their sprawling cities far larger than anything Gensokyo could even imagine.

But more important than recollecting facts she already knew was the fact that she could hardly hear at all. Before, she would've noticed Rin's worried head flying in from a good distance away, but now she could only make out her mind the minute she burst open the door. If this...change had affected her own mind, that wouldn't be acceptable in the least.

Moreover, stepping into this all-but-featureless white room with some giant oni-looking person at the other end was hardly acceptable either.

Ignoring the furniture, globe, nameplated seat and any other people there, Satori briskly walked on over to the giant, showing something she could call anger through her usual apathy. She stopped just short of walking right up to him, however - the mind of this creature wanted absolutely nothing with being read, and it expressed this with something like a loud burst of static. It wasn't really an apt comparison, being something that would be very hard to describe to a non-psychic - and indeed, completely new to Satori. Even the gods and yamas of Gensokyo had their minds laid bare like anyone else, this one was simply unwilling.

All three of her eyes tensed in pain for a moment, but that was all she would show to this person. Yuugi was tense, but she stood impassively at the side of Satori. Looking right up into his black eyes, with the same calm, dull monotone as ever, Satori said, "I have a few questions. First, can I take whatever you'll say as the truth?"

The Cure-Common Room

Something approching thoughtfulness came over The Cure's face as he considered this question.

"Hmm....a very good question. 3 days I have sat here, and you are the first to ask me that so....directly. I have no particular reason to lie to you. You may ask what you will, and I will respond with the truth. That is not to say, of course, that you will like my answers."

Dracula & Death, Castlevania Forests

After Dracula's forces had left to escort their new prisoners into the dungeon, Dracula got the Cure's message sent to him. Once the Cure filled them in on the situation, Dracula turned to Gaige, as well as his most faithful ally, Death.

"We shall have to head back to the Common Room now," Dracula told Gaige and Death. "In two hours, that artificial moon is going to destroy this planet, and I, for one, do not wish for that to happen."

"Also I wish to check what has happened to this planet because of the Empire," Dracula added as he and Death headed to the direction of the portal, hoping Gaige would follow them.

Sypha, Folkestone to Shuttle

"Yes, apparently," Sypha nodded in response to Lady's incredulousness about witches fighting aliens. "I was confused and did not believe it at first, but apparently it is true."

"Excellent speech, Wing Commander Wicke!" Sypha praised the Apparent Leader of Folkestone once she completed her speech. "We shall consider the invitation, but we should leave now."

As the group of people entered the Imperial Shuttle that Lady had claimed from Mitakihara, Sypha responded to Bond's comment about whatever secret the Strike Witches were hiding being a liability.

"I can imagine a number of reasons why the Strike Witches might hide what happens when they become adults, but I do not believe it to be our place to press the matter unless it becomes important," Sypha told Bond. Her own theory was that the advanced magical devices they were using to fly around was draining their magical energy much more than more natural methods of using magic would otherwise do. However, Sypha felt that this was not the best time to broach her theory on how to fix Folkestone's liability.

Satori & Yuugi, Common Room
This would be a great place to check and see if he was telling the truth, but alas. She'd have to go on the word of someone who, if he was truthful, just decided to steal an entire land out from under their noses. Not very trustworthy, if she would say so herself. "So, how did you manage to steal Gensokyo from-"

Yuugi tapped her on the shoulder and said "No, not Gensokyo. Just our place." Satori looked up at her, not exactly taking the interruption well and saying "How are you so sure about this?" "I looked at the globe while we walked in," she whispered matter-of-factly. "Didn't you take a glance at it?"

Satori paused before sighing, holding up a finger towards the Cure and saying "One moment, please."

The both of them walked over to the map of their new world, and sure enough, Former Hell was right there, marked plainly for all to see. Beside it was some giant lake, and around it 3 other places with odd names: Outworld, Zi-Jing Cheng, and Santa Destroy. Under each land was a name, and Satori's marked their own home.

This raised a lot more questions than would be answered, but while powerful youkai grew polite they rarely seemed to be much more patient. She'd have to get this over with quickly.

Turning back and looking at the giant once again, she said, "I'm sure you're very busy. I don't want to be around you much longer, either, so I'll ask a few questions in bulk if you don't mind. One, what's the significance of my name on that globe? Two, why did you bother with stealing this particular land? Three, is the rest of Gensokyo aware that we are gone?"

"Your name on that globe marks you as the representative of your chunk. This means that at times, I will contact you to tell you when new lands are added to the Battleworld, or give you other important information you will need to be aware of."

"As for why your land, this world is made up of many lands. Some may be not unlike your own, while others will be more or less alien. You will encounter things on this world that you may never have thought you would see. The idea behind this world, as you may have picked up from the name, is that lands from across the muliverse war against each other for my entertainment. To keep this interesting, I choose all sorts of lands. The exact specifics, I do not disclose. That is not to say you have to go to war. You are free to do as you will, ally with who you want. But not everyone will be so friendly, and if you refuse to become the aggressor, then you place yourself at risk of becoming the defender."

"As for the last one, that is unimportant. Do not concern yourself with that question."

Satori & Yuugi, Common Room
The first answer was self-explanatory. The second one was rather simple as well, if it raised some questions as well. Very existential ones, like "why bother with taking if you can just create" or "if you wanted a war, why not just instigate one where you're from", but those were questions that probably would go unanswered by how he took the third one.

Truthfully, she wondered if anyone would miss the Underworld in the first place. Yuugi thought much of the same, and realized that Suika would probably be very confused about the miles-deep crater where her friend was.

"Then, two more, one practical and one not. If you expect us to war or be warred upon, tell me about my neighboring states. Do you think they are the kind to play along with your killing game? And lastly...why me, specifically?" Unlike the rest of her questions, all stated like they had been carefully thought and recited, this last one sounded like she genuinely didn't think she might know the answer beforehand.

"Why me over anyone else in Former Hell? Answer me that, and it'll be my last."

The Cure-Common Room

The Cure shook his head. "That, I will not tell you. If you wish to attain information on your neighboring states, you will need to seek it elsewhere. Others have been here for longer then you, and can provide tat information, or you can obtain it yourself. But I will not give you everything. Where is the fun in that?"

"As for why you, this is more or less identical to the last question of this sort. I choose all sorts of different kinds of people to be representatives, to keep things interesting, and to date, only one troublesome chunk has required the representative be switched. And again, I keep my exact reasons to myself.

New Home

Asriel hopped backwards, alarmed that Sev would fire at him, even if it was in his present state. 04 managed to evade the shots, but 03 caught one shot in the arm and yelped in pain. The fire flickered for a moment, but Asriel managed to stand firm. The two guards seemed both distracted by 03's pain, but nevertheless let lose an attack of flies, fishbones,

wsssssssshthunk

and a magic spear embedding itself in the ship hull.

Undyne came stampeding up the shadowy cavern in a blaze of righteous fury. In her wake came a hail of spears, aimed not just at Sev, but at the escape ship itself. Through the door, through the windows, through the crevices in the plating, into the damn thrusters, just anywhere that it could do some damage to his one way out.

And a Strange Figure Emerges.

Sev- The Underground- Like a Cornered Animal

Even when he was heavily outnumbered, with his way of escape being blocked off by fire and others attempting to destroy it, Sev still had his relentlessness, even with the control chip altering his personality and mind. He wouldn't give up, no matter what.

Quickly reloading his blaster, the brainwashed clone had no hesitation in firing at the monsters once again, this time focused on Asriel and Undyne, to both free himself from the fire and stop any further damage to the ship.

Boss, Scorch and Sev- Folkestone to the shuttle

"And about the alliance, Commander Wlicke, you can certainly expect it from Delta Squad. If we make it out alive, expect us to come in the next day to talk about it. We'll possibly bring a friend of us from the Underground, Prince Asriel Dreemurr to a tour here, so...hopefully this airbase has some good tourism."

The 3 squad members then made their way to the shuttle along with the others, though Boss then heard the Cure's announcement, shaking his head in annoyance as it ended.

"Blast, the Clone Advisor's voice was sweeter to the ears than him." He turned to the others. "I had the Cure speak to my head. Seems like we'll have some backup send by the Cure soon enough, since he'll allow each chunk and chunkless to send one member to aid us, it seems."

Team JNR - Still missing a P, Genosha Streets

Ren had to admit: the searing heat of the plasma blasts hurt bad. Nearly on the level of lightning dust. After taking two shots, he came to the conclusion that his position was untenable. So, both machine pistols slid back up his sleeves, and Ren leaped from the AT-AT's leg... directly onto one of the ropes, and quickly began clambering his way up it.

"Nora! Cover Ren!"

"Got it."

Nora spun Magnhild back into it's grenade launcher form, and after taking a moment to aim, began firing grenades at the defenders inside the AT-AT's hull. She made sure to keep her shots away from the section of the hull Ren's rope was coming from, as her blasts were sure to cut a rope or two.

Jaune turned back to Jessica, and gave a sheepish grin.

"I don't know what a Sentinel is, but have you ever had bullies tie your shoelaces together?"

He sheathed his sword into his shield, and held a hand out for some webbing.

Bumblebee - So, About That PTSD...

The door clicked shut behind them, and the world was shut out too. Yang walked to one of the couches, and dropped both gold bars on the coffee table, before collapsing into it.

"You okay, Yang?"

"Yeah. And I shouldn't be." came the muffled response.

"What?" Blake sat down next to her, as Yang shifted into a sitting position.

"I just walked through a warzone and came out the other side. I fought for the first time since..." She glanced at her still-present right arm. "Ever since that night, I've been jumping at shadows. A door slamming, someone shouting, or even nothing at all, and I'm back there."

"...do you get the nightmares, too?"

"Yeah. We shouldn't have been able to do that, Blake."

"It was life or death. Our instincts kicked in."

"You haven't doubted your instincts since then?" Yang scoffed.

Blake's silence was all the answer Yang needed.

"I don't know what was different."

"I think I know."

Yang looked at her, tilting her head, signaling her friend to go on.

"We were together. I couldn't focus on my fears because I had to protect you. And you couldn't focus on yours because you had to protect me."

"...you do know how cheesy you sound, right?" Yang said, smiling.

"Cheesy or not, that doesn't stop it being the truth."

The blonde leaned into the faunus in a silent affirmation of agreement, and both sat in silence for a few minutes. It was true, really. Having people around you was a distraction from your own troubles, even if just for the moment.

"So, what do we do now?"

"I think I'm tired of fighting for today."

"Never thought I'd hear you say that." Blake joked, which she regretted when she felt Yang stiffen.

"...fighting stopped being fun when people started dying."

"People have always been dying, Yang. People are dying right now, out there. It's our job as huntresses to protect them."

"From Grimm, Blake. Not from terrorists, criminals, and whatever the hell Cinder and her friends are."

"Our job is to protect the people, whatever the threat."

"Our job?" Yang pulled back to glare at her partner. "We aren't Huntresses, Blake. We were students. We could have fun, live in the moment. And then the moment changed every moment that comes after it."

"We're the closest thing this world has."

"What about those superheroes outside, huh? Or the military we saw in Zi-Jin Cheng, or that woman, Lady?"

"Yang, we can't just sit around when we could be helping people."

"I wasn't becoming a huntress to help people, remember? That was you and Ruby."

"Yang, I wanted to be huntress to make up for evil of the White Fang, to show humans that the Faunus weren't their enemies. Now? I'm the only faunus on the planet. They've never heard of the White Fang. I can't put anyone in danger from Adam. I could walk away, start a new life in one of the chunks."

"And I could too."

"We're free, Yang. We could do whatever we like. But I'm going to go out there and protect people who can't defend themselves, because that is the job I signed up for. That's the job you signed up for. And neither of us can do that job without the other."

"...alright. I'll do it. For you."

Before the pair's impromptu staring contest could turn into an even more impromptu makeout session, both girl's pockets buzzed as a message came through on their scrolls.

Bond - In the words of another character I play, Bow Chicka Bow Wow, Folkestone Shuttle

"Quite right you are. Let's not look a gift ally in the mouth, shall we?"

Bond began unpacking the suitcase, laying everything out on another seat. One UMP-45 submachine gun, five magazines of .45 ACP Full Metal Jacket (according to Q, it performed better than normal rounds against the Stormtrooper's armour), two magazines of .45 ACP hollowpoint ("In case you enter a fragile section of the station"), two blocks of C4 ("Place on critical systems and run"), two flashbangs ("Armour protects from fragmentation"), an unarmoured black turtleneck sweater ("Enemy weapons cut through ballistic plates and kevlar"), a pair of black slacks, a pair of black boots, a pair of underwear, a pair of thick socks, and a chunky metal watch ("Laser").

He glanced around the shuttle's interior, and finding no alternative, unbuttoned his suit jacket and dropped it the floor. His golden cufflinks went next, deposited atop the slacks, alongside the golden pen, golden cigarette case, and golden lighter that came from his pockets. Bond started to undo his belt, before glancing over his shoulder at the rest of the group.

"Cover Miss Yeager's eyes for me, will you? I'd rather not fall afoul of indecency laws."

Satori & Yuugi, Common Room
"That will be all. Not much point in being truthful if you never say anything in the first place..."

She immediately turned back around, leaving the Cure to do whatever it is Cures do. Like she said, that was the last one, and it was obvious that he wouldn't divulge anything important to her. Presumably it would be "fun" if a group went into something completely blind.

Yuugi didn't agree with her sudden departure, walking right over and grabbing her on the shoulder. Before she could speak, Satori responded. "I told him that would be the last one. Would you like me to go back on my word, Miss Hoshiguma?" Yuugi sighed and let go. "No, of course not. You never gave me a chance to speak, though. Do you think that next time we talk to some violent god of war, you'd let me have a word?"

"Come on, Yuugi. I can't even read him, but I can tell he's being cryptic for the sake of being cryptic, how youkai-like of him," Satori said, not looking back as she kept slowly shuffling towards the portal. "It's as he said. We'll have to talk to one of the 'natives' to learn anything useful."

Of those she could see in the room, most didn't seem worth the trouble. That group of people in some of the strangest clothing she's ever seen (and that's saying something) up front were still dealing with their captor, and she'd assume that this giant wouldn't be keen on being interrupted.

A woman and a girl, despite idly sitting by, had the issue of being flanked with armed guards, and most definitely ones from the outside world. They were carrying guns, and had strange armor on. If either one of them protested, she'd have the great disadvantage of possibly being dead. While she could just politely ask Yuugi to deal with them, which is something she was sure this warmonger would like to see in person, she didn't want the trouble just yet if there was one more, perfectly capable person standing around.

A lean, young man, looking like he was of Japanese descent. Being alone was the factor that made him the best choice here. Before diverting her course, she said to Yuugi, "Follow close, in case this one tries anything," she said with a covert point at Junpei. Once again, she interrupted Yuugi's "Wha-" with her reply. "Don't worry, he doesn't have a choice in the matter. If he doesn't know, we move on to another. Understand?"

Yuugi paused for a while, hoping to make her mental message loud and clear, before she said, "If you want my help, let me say something once in a blue moon, you damn satori." Having heard it twice, one much louder than the other, she said, "Of course. I don't see how having to waste energy talking makes it more easily heard, but I'll respect your request."

Satori put on a little smile as she turned towards Junpei, and Yuugi got over her being talked down to and mirrored her polite smile as they both came towards the young man. Just getting close, Junpei might feel a faint sense of unease coming from their general direction as the shorter one said, "Hello, there. I'm Satori, this is Yuugi, and we're new here." She stood close to him and tried to offer her hand for a shake, and if Junpei let her get close the sense of unease would get stronger, now definitely coming from the smaller girl as she covertly poured over his memory and tried to find the relevant information here. Trying to put as much enthusiasm into her words as possible, and failing to produce much cheer in her voice, she said "We have some questions to ask, but first let me say it's a pleasure to meet you!"

The questions she was looking for were so, ignoring the rest of his memory: What his name is, what is his affiliation, what he knew of the lands of Outworld, Santa Destroy and Zi-Jen Ching, and what he was feeling as he talked to her. Hardly important, that last bit, but surely it would be important to tell just how repulsed someone from another world would be meeting someone with an extra eyeball.

Dennis's eyes, supported by a cheek that was in turn supported by an elbow leaning on the countertop, visibly grew more incensed the more it seemed like the pair were speaking in code. Just as he opened his mouth to tell them to knock it off, Huang interceded with the Russian's second or maybe third favorite topic in the world: the art of catching, cleaning, and of course eating, fish. "Carp, eh? They make lousy sushi. Too many bones." Dennis tapped the countertop knowingly. "Now tuna, you can do wonders with tuna, let me tell you..."

As the crusty sailors got into the finer points of sushi-ry, and Simon disappeared behind the curtain after saying something about taking a can to kick (he was going to take out the garbage), Tom turned to April with a half-cocked smirk, happy to have the upper edge in credulity for once. "Contractors are supposed to be spies, right?" He said, gesturing up and down April's general deal for emphasis. "So it makes sense that she'd know the rundown from a key sources, and mix it in with some ow, and some ow, and some—would you, are you, just, hey, I—!" And so it was that Tom found himself taking cover behind a sushi platter, warding it defensively over his increasingly tender leg, his pain drowned out by the sudden befuddlement of losing a chopstick fight with a ten-year-old. We're having really bad luck with that age group lately I've noticed—!

April surely thought she was helping, but her ensuing explanation only served for Tom to drop his guard enough so that July could get one last crack in. "Ow! What do you mean partner, like in—" Tom suddenly broke out into a spontaneous coughing fit as Simon reappeared from between the curtains, cradling a beer refill in a slightly-oversized sake jar. "Alcohol is good for the skin, da? Gets you out into the world, where skin can be seen!"

Tom paused with his fist to his mouth, torn. Simon and Dennis's presence were reducing his "likely to get shot" quotient by 1000%, but he also couldn't talk about anything important here. He stared at July as he sat down next to April, trying to come up with something to buy them a few minutes, also because he was giving the kid something of a nasty glare. "Hey, uh, July, don't you... have... more... questions, about..." Tom's eyes darted about the space, looking for anything even tangentially usable, landing on a nearby wall calendar. A Dostoyevski calander. "...Russian literature?" And Simon's eyes, lit up.

Ikebukuro Power Plant

Celty's stump cocked to the side as Trevor gave her a lot to unpack at once, him pointing out that this may have been the unluckiest portal post in existence—or worse yet, that this was a typical case, and the ice prison around her own home's prison wasn't quite the bout of teenage overreaction she'd suspected it might be. But then his words sparked a bout of remembrance within her undead breast of the message that Mikado—no, that the shapeshifting demon had sent over the airwaves the previous day to cause such mass panic. She was essentially standing on top of a mass grave site, and despite every word painting her as a shepard to the dead and dying, she felt a distinct case of the heebie-jeebies.

But before she could go into any of this, the vampire hunter rose further questions by assuming, correctly, that she had a horse. That one might have been simpler, though, since she'd been fighting fairly visibly in the tournament yesterday. From the way he talked, and dressed, and the way he kissed El's hand that one time, maybe he just didn't have the right frame of reference to call it what it looked like? It certainly looked like it would only fit one person, in any case. You let me worry about that. Celty tapped out, before patting her hand against the side of the shuttle's hull.

Ikebukuro->Hell's Gate Tokyo

Swerving around corners, cutting across lanes, and plowing straight through a hastily-manned security checkpoint, it was little wonder why Shooter was such a scourge to the area's traffic cops. He'd never run anyone off the road, of course not, his horsey brain just wasn't really calibrated to discriminate against speed; he was made to run, and run free, and with wheels he could simply run faster than any of his brethren could ever dream.

His centuries of life had also granted him a few other things horses didn't usually have. While not exactly intelligent in the way most people courted the metric, he had a certain sort of otherworldly wisdom that guided him in his duties as the harbinger of a harbinger. And right now, that wisdom was telling him that his master needed him, regardless of her previous orders to ferry the snake man around. His scent colored the bike-horse's mechanical nostrils unfavorably; he did, however, give good ear scratches. Such complexities were confounding.

After about twenty minutes of relatively uninterrupted transit, which involved ramping off a highway overpass and strategically barrelling through a few (mostly!) unoccupied tenement houses, Shooter erupted onto the scene, vaulting over a nearby concrete wall to land in front of the quartet with a skid. There was his master, standing at her most handsome with helmet off, amidst a woman who looked (but not smelled!) like a rabbit and a man who smelled... bad, but in one of those good ways. The humans called it "holy", but all he knew was that he didn't want him anywhere near his driver's seat.

Good boy, Shooter. came the voice of praise from his owner over the somewhat watery mental connection they shared, driving all thoughts of the holy water's stinging touch out of his head. He rolled over to her side and flicked one of his rearview side mirrors akin to an ear as she gave him some scratches of her own. Ahhh. Much better. Then, over that same connection, strange directions filtered in. He was to eat something... but not in the way that he used to eat, way back in the days of antiquity. This was about the way he ate now, when he acquired a new body, new wheels. New wheels, yes, she confirmed, and that was all Shooter needed to hear. Righting himself in the direction of the large vehicle, Shooter rolled up to it with might might have been trepidation or caution. But after only a moment's more hesitation, Shooter sped to stop right in front of it.

To those watching, it would look as though a shadowy mass akin to that which constantly flowed out of Celty's head gathered around the bike's chassis, swirling and whipping about intangibly. Then, the shadowy forced surged out to encompass the entirety of the space-worthy vehicle, flattening and surrounding every side, windshield, thruster, and folded-up wing until both parties were lost in an indistinguishable ebony recreation of Jupiter's Red Spot. After a moment more of this treatment, the swirling would die down, then die off. The not!shadows would fade, leaving a single vehicle in its wake—identical to the Imperial Shuttle of just a few seconds ago, save for a fresh paint job of pure black. Shooter, the bike, was nowhere to be found.

Out of the shuttle's nose, came something like a whicker.

Ikebukuro Power Plant

Mikado let out a relieved sigh, then smiled at her admission as he felt himself deflating like an end-of-day parade balloon, momentarily free from the bloat of having to contend with agendas from all sides. "I... guess I have the opposite problem, you know?" He admitted bashfully, eyes fixing on an errant drop hanging from one of the alley's overhanging gutters. "I've never really had a reason not to trust people, before, and it's a little hard knowing how to go about it now. I never got very high marks in, ah, Espionage Class."

Letting the Kida-level joke stew warmly in the air, he glanced back out the alleyway, where Minako was making her introduction. "The Dollars were about, you know, that people will do good things if you let them. This is going to sound corny, and maybe a little arrogant, but, um... thanks for not proving me wrong." He said, with genuine gratitude, the spectacle of the summoning reflected in his eyes.

Akabayashi was half-way off the car before she had even pulled the trigger, a look of abject, mystified horror in his one eye. Aozaki's reaction was less dramatic, a simple deer-in-the-headlights widening of the eyes even as the mystical energies of the mystical demigod surged out to perform the minor miracle of fixing up his wounded hand. "Son of a..." fell from his lips as Akabayashi landed next to him, the scarred lieutenant giving his fingers a experimental ripple as the ruffled bandages loosened and fell. The space around them was suddenly so quiet one could hear the rustle of the bandages hit the ground, the eclectic crowd stunned into silence by the appearance of nothing less than one of the nation's divine figures. If it had been a generic monster, or a demon, they might have known to fight or scream; but who wanted to take potshots at a godly protector of the peace?

Aozaki only had the presence of mind to snap out of it once Akabayashi gave his shoulder a firm clap, the latter's easy-going smile back in full force. "Well, you're a long way from your palace in the north, your grace." He said, flicking his one eye from the floating figure's form down to Minako. "Since you've come all this way, let's talk."

Ikebukuro Russia Sushi Street

Stepping out onto the street with a quick glance to make sure they weren't about to get mugged, Tom stepped aside to let April out, leaning against the side of the building adjacent to the door with a soft sigh. He had a cigarette clutched loosely in one hand, to get him out of the buildings, and a simple glass of water in the other, to get him out of trouble. Even if she got to him before he could scream, he would still drop the glass, and they'd at least kill her for that.

"So yeah, anyway," he said, turning to her as he picked up where he left off, "partners, huh? You guys must have been really close, I've... never been stabbed by chopsticks before." He let off a soft chuckle, that slowly turned morbid as his gaze fell to the pavement. "So then... the Cure really killed him? Were you there?"

Hell's Gate Tokyo Skies

Take-off was slightly awkward as Shooter figured out how to properly unfurl; from what Celty could glean, it was more akin to riding on the leathery wings of a bat than the steady stride of hooves against pavement that a tire could so easily emulate. But as with so many things involving her powers, the issue was mainly mental. Once she managed to convince Shooter to think of the ship's thrusters as hooves beating against the air, they were up and on their way to the police station post-haste.

The interior was spacious, designed standard for twenty or so Storm Troopers, and thus had plenty of space for the three occupants. But the space also smelled distinctly of sweat, and in any of the many seats one could find Storm Trooper operating numbers scratched into the metal in fits of idle boredom. The control panel mostly remained silent, occasionally letting out noises of horse-like exertion, but otherwise as dead to the world as the undead vehicle's bike engine. And thanks to the inertial dampeners, unless one of the three looked out the window they wouldn't even know they were in the air. There was, however, one exception; when/if Trevor's Vampire Killer, or any of his other overtly holy implements touched a surface in the vehicle, the would momentarily rock back and forth as Shooter let out a pained whinny over the speakers, the surface making a soft hiss noise.

Resting her gloved hands on the front console, Celty stared out the front windshield as the city sped by underneath them—and she did mean sped, because if she was reading the instruments correctly, Shooter's new body could get up to 850... somethings. Right now it was stationed just under 200, and by the way buildings whipped past, they were putting highway speeds to shame. We could go anywhere on the planet with this thing, she thought to herself with a sense of growing wonder, stymied only by the fact that none of the life support systems seemed to be operational. Not that she needed them, obviously, but all of the people she might want to take for a ride most definitely did.

Glancing over at El, she had a moment of clarity, and slid her phone out of her sleeve. I'm sorry, I've been selfish. She said, seemingly appropos of nothing. Here I am, making a big fuss about my fiance, and I never even thought about what kind of trouble Sol might be in. Do you want to call him? With the way Shooter is now, it's not so impossible that we might be able to go pick him up.

Afterward, she would turn her phone to Trevor, and would type out a new message. I told you not to worry, didn't I? :) She would then bring it down to type a new message, before showing: I will admit though, I didn't expect it to be this fast. I wonder if this craft has any weapons, or if Shooter can even use them?

Ikebukuro Power Plant (Again)

After a short period of abject confusion, the various parties had gathered to form two loose groups: the Yakuza suits on one side, the police uniforms on the other, and Yumi Ai in the middle, serving as a prow against the waves of Minako's spectacle. Dozens of bodies milled uncomfortably, united by just two things: the will to do something to save their city, and their gaze on Minako's powder-blue form.

"First, allow to apologize for not recognizing you right away." Akabayashi said with that same smile, cane resting over one shoulder as he stood foremost in front of the Yakuza group. "You've done a lot for this city, there's no doubt about that."

"No doubt from some of us." Kinnousuke said at the front of the police group, arms crossed grumpily. "What possessed you to go to the leader of a color gang, instead of the police? We could have gotten that information across just as well, through the proper channels."

"I'm inclined to agree." Said Miss Yumi, her expression a bit harder to gauge behind the white of her surgical mask. "It harms your credibility a tad to associate yourself with someone dedicated to undermining our command structure, and then appearing in front of us for help."

"In any case," Akabayashi chimed back in, "unless you can make your friend there as invisible to them as he is to most non-believers, we can't endorse a full-on assault."

"For once, we agree." Kinnosuke snorted. "I don't know how good your information network is, but Raira Highschool has been under enemy occupation for hours now. Even if we wanted to do something to negotiate the truce that your boyfriend got us caught up in, there are too many lives at stake."

Bridge Alpha -> East Ward

Homura had made it a little bit past the back alley behind the pizza parlor the whole group had started from when The Cure's voice rang out in her head. Her eyes immediately went back to the Death Star up in the sky when The Cure mentioned the time left.

Well, shit.

Thanks to Bond, she wasn't totally clueless about the intentions of his associates who managed to high-tail it with a spaceship. As she had indicated to him over the phone, she would have rather preferred to let them handle taking out the Death Star in order to keep the identities of her and her friends secret. But The Cure's mention of a hard time limit of just two hours had put her on the spot (again). On one hand, the more people that know a secret the less likely it remains a secret, and their situation was already pretty tenuous as it stands now. She didn't want to needlessly give away one of the few advantages they still had. And even if she decided someone should go, who would it be?

On the other hand, if that giant laser is as advertised...she couldn't put it past something like The Cure to allow this whole world to be blown away just because the Empire couldn't be stopped in time. Even if she could have gotten Madoka spirited away to the Common Room before time was up...

It was a question that would linger on in her mind as she quickly resumed her trek towards the meet-up point at the park, double-timing it as best she could while she was out of their sight. None of the others were chunk representatives - they wouldn't have gotten this news yet...right?

Imperial Shuttle - Folkestone AB

Kyubey had long since scurried back into his hiding spot once he heard the first footsteps clang onto the open shuttle doorway. He simply watched quietly from behind some containers high on a shelf as Bond, Lady, Sylpha, several who wore what looked like the Imperial Stormtrooper outfit but were obviously accompanying this strike force against the Death Star, and another of these Strike Witches began to board. Time was of the essence, after all, something made clear when the man from MI6 began changing right there while asking others to avert their gaze. Kyubey himself was unable to see the action as Bond had chosen to change right in front of the shelf he was currently hiding in, but Sypha's protests made it obvious to him that modesty was still a consideration among all these peoples from other universes.

With this many people being packed into the shuttle, though, the odds were becoming quite long that he would be able to remain undetected indefinitely - even moreso if what one of those wearing the Stormtrooper-like outfit was true that more could be warped into here at any moment. Certainly, if a Magical Girl came in those odds would approach zero. Perhaps he should "cash out" now, as humans say, and reveal himself - best case is that they'd let him stay on board (unlikely), more likely is that he'd have to stay in Folkestone, which wouldn't be so bad given the kind of magic he had been sensing coming from these Strike Witches. Yet at the same time his goal had been to get to the Death Star - there would be opportunity to explore Folkestone and its inhabitants at a later date assuming this attack does work.

It was simply unfortunate that there were not two of him there. And so he remained hidden for now, letting the chatter of the hastily-assembled alliance preparing to strike against the Empire keep the heat off of him for now.

Folkestone Air Base - Air Strip

Minna tilted her head to one side as she listened to the Cure's announcement. So the other Chunks and Chunkless would be joining in on the allied strikeforce. Hopefully they could be trusted to join in on such a force...no matter. Her current allies all seemed to have appreciated her words, and Minna smiled as she accepted Lady's contact details. She would remember to follow up on the invitations later.

"Good luck out there, Shirley. Come back safe."

"Yes, commander!"

And then she was off, cheerfully boarding the shuttle. She managed to steal a glimpse of Bond undressing before Sypha covered her eyes.

"Awww..." she said, disappointed, but didn't struggle.

Meanwhile, back in the hangar, the roar of engines announced that the four remaining Strike Witches were ready to move out.

Mitakihara - Point Alpha

Mio watched on in satisfaction as the local troops took the situation in hand, the other girls providing overwatch.

"Not entirely on our own," Mio said. "We received assistance from unidentified magic-using combatants. They pulled out just before you arrived, so I suspect they were trying to avoid detection, but I think we can consider them our allies in the struggle against the Imperials."

"We still have enough fuel and ammunition for another sortie if you need it. Are there any zones that require air support?"

Trevor, Celty's Shuttle

For Trevor's part, he looked about as uncomfortable inside the shuttle as Shooter was having him inside the shuttle. For him, it was like being inside Dracula's Castle... Celty's steed was apparently a Creature of Chaos like the Castle and could take many incarnations. Trevor actually seemed to consider Celty to be one of the most interesting Creatures of the Night that he has met so far. She was both interesting and nice enough that Trevor was making an effort to keep any of his holy weapons from touching Shooter and keeping them only in contact with himself. Trevor seemed to be thinking about how to address Celty, especially after her feat in seizing control of this Imperial Shuttle.

"I should apologize to you and your steed for the trouble of carrying me, Celty," Trevor began carefully, looking rather guilty at the unintentional harm that he may have caused to Shooter thanks to his Vampire Killer. "I am a warrior blessed with holy weapons, but I refuse to hunt those unholy creatures who wish to live in peace like you and your steed... But that doesn't mean that my holy weapons won't still hurt even unintentionally."

Bond - Impromptu Striptease, Folkestone Shuttle

Bond chuckled at Shirley's reaction, as he pulled the belt away from his pants and dropped it on his pile of "to put on" clothes.

"You know what? You're old enough to go on this mission, you're old enough to see my arse."

His shoes came next, the black Oxfords slipping off easily. He glanced at them for a moment, before placing them on the ground and moving the Q-provided boots back in the suitcase.

"I'm getting changed." he responded to Sypha. "It needs to be done, and I'd rather get it done before the Cure's promised reinforcements arrive."

He paused, fingers on the button of his fly.

"Wait, you don't get those messages, do you? In any case, according to the Cure, we're not the only spaceship. And to make it fair, any group without a spaceship will get to send one of their own up with us. So I'd prefer to get this done before someone sends a twelve-year-old."

The button came undone, the pants came down, and he stepped out of them.

"Oh, yes, and the nation of Former Hell has joined us. I'm sure it will keep New Hell, Hell's Gate Tokyo and Hades company, if those chunks haven't been removed yet."

Mitakihara, Small Park

The Gear and Valentine duo arrived at the park along with Mami, Ramlethal taking a seat on a swing while Sin remained standing and began performing some cool-down exercises. They seemed no worse for wear. In fact, with the speed he was doing his stretches, Sin almost looked raring to go for a second round, even though he did recognize that there was no need.

"I wouldn't worry about us, Mami. We're tough like that. What about you? And Yukari?"

Hell's Gate Tokyo Skies

Well, this was far from what Elphelt expected.

The Valentine, having stared out the windows for a little too long, put everything she had into not losing what lunch she had. They were travelling so... so fast! And yet there was no turbulence, and the view of the outside was akin to a technicolor race of lightning fast bright specks.

So much for being resistant to motion sickness.

Celty raised her phone once more, meaning she had something to say.

"Oh no need to apologize, Miss Celty. You should know by now that I'd understand when a woman worries for her fiance. Speaking of which, thank you for your consideration. Last I heard, Sol was headed to... was it Bladehenge? Or Ironheade? Either way, I'd better call him."

Elphelt used the magic communicator Sol had passed to her, the blue glyph appearing at her ear. Truth was, she wondered if Bladehenge or Ironheade was even still in Battleworld. She was humming a certain opening riff when Sol answered.

"Hello, Sol? Yeah, it's me. You sound like you've been through quite the day. Where are you right now? Ironheade? Alright, sit tight. We're coming to pick you up. Hm? Yeah, I think we should stick together from this point on. Oh, well excuse me for being worried about you! Besides, it sounds like you had Ironheade covered pretty well. How are they, anyway? Splendid! Alright, stay where you are Sol! We're coming to pick you up, then we can run the last stretch of this battle together! See you then! Hugs and kisses!"

As she dismissed the glyph, she sighed.

"He can be such a handful sometimes."

She seemed to say with some hint of familiarity, as if she'd known Sol for years, when the truth was far from that.

"Anyway, we can pick him up at Ironheade."

Sypha, Folkestone Shuttle

"Well, could you please hurry up with it!" Sypha said to him, her face still a red shade of embarrassment. "There are four women here!"

Sypha looked over at Molly and Lady, as if she was exasperated. Sypha's covering of Shirley's eyes might be weak enough for the Strike Witch to peek through the vampire hunter's fingers.

Shuttle-Folkestone

Ladyo ,on seeing what Bond was doing, facepalmed hard enough to be heard from the other side of the shuttle.

"Really? Are you really doing this here? You couldn't take a minute to find a damn bathroom?"

Meanwhile, from the co-pilot seat, Chewy roared and covered his own eyes, making his own opinion known in his own way.

"What a bunch of weirdos." Han laughed as he hit a button. "I'm not even gonna ask why in blazes we're dragging a kid along. Just hold on, we'll be leaving orbit in a minute."

Han hit a button, closing the shuttle door, and after a moment the shuttle lifted off, quickly leaving Folkestone airspace.

Iacon: News Broadcast

The operational megascreens across Iacon's cityscape flickered to life with the first address since the Empire's invasion, a familiar screen logo of the Iacon Cycle news station greeting the beleaguered Autobots emerging onto the ruined streets, while the remaining Imperials made for a retreat. The distinctive crimson-clad news host, Anchorbolt, arranged some dataslates, before looking up at the camera.

"Hello, and welcome back to another special edition of the Iacon Cycle, I'm your host, Anchorbolt. Now that power to civilian sectors has been restored, we are back to our broadcasting schedule. After the activation of the Metroplex for the first time since the Great War, the organic invaders have extracted from Iacon, and it is up to us to pick up the pieces. We go now to our field reporter, Hot Scoop, who is currently at the Metroplex where Sentinel Prime is fielding questions from the public."

Rather than a properly organised and sanctioned press release, Sentinel appeared instead to be barging his way through a crowd of Autobots insisting on answers, with Hot Scoop pushing forward to reach her microphone to him, her bull-dozer forearms clearing the way to cut through the others in the way.

"Sentinel Prime, is it true that Iacon is locking down?" she asked, thrusting her mic into his face. He stopped, rounding on her and speaking with barely restrained derision.

"Iacon has just suffered a major and inevitable organic invasion from those we have been instructed to 'welcome and tolerate'. Over a dozen of us are now offline, a price paid for our curiosity. All travel and contact with our organic neighbours is now strictly forbidden until further notice."

"And what of the Metroplex? All civilian energon was redirected to the fortress, just how much of it was expended? The energy shortage was alarming before the invasion."

"It sounds to me, reporter, that you're reaching for an answer you've already decided works best. Let me tell you, the Autobot Elite Guard will ensure every bot receives fair rations, provided each bot is willing to set aside their selfishness and accept less-than-ideal energon grants. If you want to call that an energy crisis, then those are your words, but I can guarantee that it was better to expend that energy surviving that invasion than rolling over and letting diseased organics conquer us."

Hot Scoop touched at her earpiece, listening, before turning back to the camera.

"I've just received notice that an Autobot spacecraft has just left the hangar and is making its way east. Sentinel Prime, can you corroborate this—"

"What?!" yelled Sentinel, alarmed and outraged. "That is an unsanctioned launch and departure, and I will not stop until those responsible turn back immediately!"

Ratchet looked at the screen broadcasting at the cockpit of Orion, looking to Optimus beside him. "Sounds like he's talking about us."

"Turn it off, Ratchet. The four of us agreed to this, no use in indulging the nay-sayers," said Optimus, piloting the ship for the Folkestone Airbase. After clearing out the Iacon Hall of Records and ensuring its safety, Optimus had become aware of the move for Folkestone among the organics - if there was going to be a counter-attack against that battle station, it would be from there. And after receiving lock-down orders, Optimus knew that the Elite Guard would not be assisting in that attack. He knew, deep down in his spark, that he was right to disobey orders and leave Iacon. He would shoulder all the blame on their return, but Ratchet, Bulkhead and Prowl had all agreed - Autobot lives were in danger, and they were not going to let organics risk themselves alone.

"Any word from Bumblebee?" asked Bulkhead, looking over to Prowl at the communications station.

"Nothing. His comm-unit is dead," answered Prowl, before noticing Bulkhead's sullen expression. "But... I'm sure... he survived," he added.

Aerrow, Common Room

Aerrow went to take Robin up on his offer, when a familiar voice echoed in his head. So there was something going on outside of this room. Calling over the rest of the team, they huddled, Aerrow relayed the message and there was a lengthy debate about who should go.

Everyone wanted to go to space. Everybody. But Piper wasn't sure if the alliance was worth it, and Finn was being a glory hound, Junko didn't want to offend anyone, and Stork was muttering about how the person who was picked was doomed. But allies are always good, so Aerrow overrided them all.

"i should go. The rest of the alliance will need a good sharpshooter, and I'm the best."

"Finn, enough."

On his shoulder Radarr chittered his agreement. Aerrow was thinking through who he should send, even if it is himself. Finn was a very good shot, but he wasn't particularly democratic when dealing with other people. Junko seemed too shy to properly make allies, and Stork was being downright unhelpful. He also wasn't great in a straight fight, not without the Condor. Radarr would be useless without someone to translate, so he was out.

Him or Piper. Much as he hated to say it, Piper's abilities were more...unique. Crystals Mages were rare on Atmos, let alone here. The others had been bickering while he was thinking.

"Piper, you're going."

"What?"

"You heard me."

"Finn, you're a great shot, but they're not rare. Crystal Mages are. Piper, you're good with people, and you're great in a fight."

"Thanks. Okay Aerrow."

Stepping forward, Piper stood next to Starfire, checking that she had her staff and her bag of crystals. and echoed Starfire's words.

"I'm ready.

Piper briefly considered asking if she could take her heliscooter, but decided against it, simply because it wasn't spaceproof.

Common Room, Junpei — Youkai, Youkai, Whatcha Gonna Do?

Frankly, Junpei had been more than a little disappointed about the departure of the redhead and her friend, moping around as he waited for somebody to greet, but he soon forgot that sentiment in favor of the sudden goosebumps that had begun to run all up and down his body.

Yeesh, well that feeling ain't doomy or nothin'! Where's that comin' from... Oh. Those two new girls? I guess that makes 'em... He glanced quickly up at the map. Former Hell? Well, okay, but I don't see anything really Hellish ab- holyshittheyredemons. Okay, you can do this, Junpei, just breathe. BREATHE! Okay, the tall, horny one with big bazongas has gotta be an Oni, right? Right! And that makes the cute pink hair one with the eyeball, uh... uh... what were those ones called, again? Wait, she's a Youkai, man! That's not cu- ohhhhgodshestalkingtome.

It was strange, but the Youkai's relative flatness of tone and expression was somehow comforting rather than perturbing, a reaction as unexpected to him as it might have been to her. Still, the unnerving feeling he had been getting since they started their approach was throwing him off his game majorly.

"Um... yeah, nice to meet you too." The teen tried to smile, but it looked weak and forced as he gave her proffered hand a mediocre but not wholly unwarm shake. His name was by far the easiest part of Satori's checklist to find, particularly because he was about to say it anyway. "I'm Junpei, Iori Junpei... me and my buddies are part of this group called SEES, haha..." It's funny, cause she also has this extra eye, SEE? Aha... that's not funny at all.

SEES, a tight-knit group of heroes (classmates) who once fought to protect the world from monsters, Shadows, black blobs, now refashioned as questionably qualified but peace-seeking negotiators. Quick impressions of faces and emotions. A prickly auburn-haired childhood friend. An exasperated-looking boxer. An elegant class president. A quirky robot girl. And central to them, an inexhaustibly sunny brunette—

"I guess in the end, I wanted you to trust me. Like, if someone like you could trust me, then I might be worth something..."

"Hey... we're friends, right?"

"Pfffff! More like best friends!"

It's weird, though. Those chicks from New Hell were hot devil girls, and now with Former Hell we get hot youkai girls? I guess that makes sense, kind of. Are they from the same place? Maybe Cure just has better taste than I thought? I mean... damn, I shouldn't be thinking this about a youkai, but they're way more cute than demons have any right to be. Just look at that eye! You know... they always do say not to judge a book by its cover. I mean, so what if they're youkai? Yeah! Minako-chan summons youkai and other kinds of demons all the time for Personas, and they're all alright enough guys. Uh, maybe better check to see if they eat people first, though. Just in case... Agh, what the hell am I doing?! Don't stare! Don't stare!

The awkward interval of verbal silence stretched, but Junpei's internal monologue continued apace as the senior Komeiji sister very easily began finding the rest of her answers. Minds had been open books to her, true, but it seemed this one's was more open than most, and would probably have even come with an index and table of contents.

Outworld. A place he hadn't been and didn't know very much about, and didn't plan to ever go. A warlord clad in far too many skulls to not be tacky. Boisterously fond of Konquest. The very first land in Battleworld to konquer another land, and in only one day. Public enemy number two, right behind public enemy number one to his northwest... or former public enemy number two. His daughter had apparently fled and Genosha next door was apparently going to wed her to its prince sometime soon?? There was going to be a party, at any rate.

Santa Destroy. Apparently a modern American city with beach resort? He hadn't been there and didn't know much about it, either, but he might get around to going there eventually, and maybe she could find out more at the convenient information booth with the spacey girl. His actual in-person impressions made them out to be pretty much a bunch of loonies. A snobby, British banker man. A part-machine woman with far too many extra arms and far too many laser swords attached to them. Football teams and cheerleaders. Human walls of men in bondage gear. Was that what real Americans were like? He wasn't sure, but they seemed damn strange. And highly coordinated. And a little too into blood sports. And worthy of caution.

Zi-Jin Cheng. Chinese-sounding. Yet another place he hadn't been, didn't know much about, and didn't plan on going to any time soon. Definitely way beyond his own world's technology, though. A scene of a lady knight in shining armor and a glowing sword facing off against an advanced combat robot (Goooo Ai-chan!), the second-strongest fighter he knew. Ai-chan cleaved effortlessly in two even after pulling out all the stops. A fighting tournament with no lasting damage, thank goodness. The knight facing off in a snowstorm against a rough-looking military type with far too many scars, and the second one holding his own without even making it look hard, and then winning. The pew-pew of a futuristic laser pistol. Dangerous.

A brief turn of his thoughts to the chunk that had been in the Former Hell's place until just now. He hadn't been there, but by the name, it was obviously a forest of bamboo. More importantly, the Kaguya had been there, and he was a little put out that she was gone. He'd wanted to meet the legendary Moon Princess at least once, but he'd only been able to observe her radiance from a distance...

"Aaaaaaanyway, you're new here, so you must be comin' to Junpei, Ace Detective, lookin' for answers, right? Well, I've got ya covered! Whadda ya wanna know about first, er..." Damnit, why do I keep blanking on the hot chicks' names toady?! She's... Saori? No, Chitori? No... Satori, right! Oh, hey, aren't Satori those youkai from the mountains that, like, read... minds... and stuff. Pleasetellmeshedidnthearallthat.
