It's one of those things that only should be used in the forums, not trope pages. It's similar to Word Cruft because it's not necessary.

It is not in any way necessary on the wiki.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@3: I just tried including strikethrough markup as part of an edit as an experiment, and it does show up on the page, so it hasn't yet been re-disabled.
I agree with Karxrida's assessment that if the struckthrough text isn't a needless Take That!, it's generally some form of Word Cruft (whether a "joke" or otherwise) that adds nothing of value to the example, and so I'll cast my vote for it to be disabled again.

The new admins seem to be slow enough to do anything that not re-disabling strikethrough yet isn't itself dispositive. There's at least one case where having strikethrough markup would make it easier to properly quote something, but it's on a Funny page (Funny. What If) so I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't a high priority and certainly doesn't outweigh the propensity to use it for stupid jokes.
What's in the works right now is such a thorough overhaul of the site's core code that any cosmetic fixes right now would not be worth the time.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I was one of those tropers who resented at the time the former wiki owner's fiat elimination of strikethrough; in my view, this post
presented some of the more valid complaints against its removal. In retrospect, I still think his decision, though grudgingly accepted, was an ill-advised overreaction to tropers' misuse, not much less so than his quickly-abandoned attempts at automatically banning certain words from the wiki.
I have seen strikethrough used frequently in both print media and online articles for respectable sites. I hope the new management will allow passages using strikethrough to remain quotable here in their original form.

Those sites aren't collaborative works where anyone can drop in and strike out half an article because they think it makes them look clever.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

Couldn't find a thread dedicated to this, but I apologise if this has already been covered in another thread with a more general premise.
So as longtime editors will know, strikethrough markup (y'know,
this sort of thing) was disabled about four years ago on the wiki because of rampant misuse for either unfunny jokes or needless Take Thats. After the wiki code overhaul earlier this year, it was re-enabled. I've found several pages where it's being used again for unfunny jokes (no needless Take Thats so far, but I'm sure they're out there), so is strikethrough markup going to be re-disabled, or is it back to stay?
