Should have had a better series finally though. Seriously, that was a great episode, and it could have worked as a season finale, but was terribly out of place as the end of it all.

Unless it was just supposed to be the end of the season and they didn't know it wouldn't be getting renewed, but I don't think that's the case.

It's an epilogue rather than a finale.

I consider "Trouble in Tokyo" the finale of the show.

Uugh no, that would have been terrible.

Movie no.

What we got was a and they fight on and continue their day as heroes. The movie was just, kind of generic.

The movie didn't come with the implication that they were going to continue fighting on? Really the final episode didn't give that vibe to me at all. It was about letting go of your past not any need to keep being heroes. It's not like that was ever in question.

[up][up]Different strokes man. I personally really enjoyed the movie. Was a very fun, goofy romp.

Something that astonishes me is how far the New 52 version of Cyborg is from the Teen Titans version, given that Cyborg's boost in popularity cake primarily from the cartoon.

How is he different in New 52, exactly? Not too familiar with the New 52 comics so it'd be nice if you could elaborate.

That's because the New 52 want to sell Cyborg as a Justice League character, so they're afraid of reminding people of his links with the Titans. Otherwise he becomes 'this young turk who used to be a Teen Titan' and little else in the public eye. And I'm not saying that is justified, but then we're still getting Aquaman is Lame jokes as well.

Uugh what writing hack is doing those jokes?

SERIOUSLY the character x is lame jokes people make shows an inability to actual use their own brains for humor content or character association instead of just paroting dead horse jokes about characters.

Also distancing Cyborg from the Teen Titans makes me sad. Why is it that so many of these writers nowadays find it so difficult to make thought out and consistent work or simply just build up from the past/integrate what worked?

Its just too much either dark/edgier or trying to streamline stuff because they mistakenly believe fans want certain things.

The funny part about that is that I knew about Cyborg before I watched Teen Titans all those years ago because of a Justice League cartoon. I just didn't know he was part of the Titans at one point.

[up]I watched Superfriends when I was wee, so I already knew who Cyborg was. When the 2003 show started airing, it took me some time to get used to his bulkier design.

So I stumbled upon this show entirely by accident through this clip

This is funny. And adorable. Is the whole show this entertaining?

And by the way, who are the hacks writing Justice League Vs Teen Titans? That whole film was awful!

Teen Titans' humor skits were pretty good.

I personally prefer the overall direction of J Lvs TT.

TT had too much mood clash, plus the Americanime animation style was a little icky. The best moments came near the end.

Teen Titans 2003 was hit or miss in its early days, and it didn't really hit its stride until its second or third season. The first season kind of stinks, and none of the characters aren't anywhere near as good as they could be in it. But by season three all the characters are very well fleshed out and the humor works a lot better.

Once they more consistently hit the balance between funny and serious the show was that entertaining a lot (though iirc the rest of the episode where the "dress like Robin" bit came from was meh).

It was also right in the middle of the wave of Western shows trying their hardest to look and feel like anime, and it took them a while to balance that too.

I watched this back in the day, and it became one of my all-time works of fiction ever. In terms of TV shows, it's part of my "Big 3" with Doctor Who and Futurama

Heh, and the description for that video says it "went downhill rapidly after the first season".

Season 1 wasn't the best but it did have its gems, Nevermore, Masks, Apprentice part 1 and 2, etc.

Season 2 and 4 are my favorites though.

"Y'know, Robins, the mask makes me feel cool too" is one of my favorite lines in the series.

Incidentally, you should watch the show, Handle - Season 4 has a really good Raven arc.

The "sudden anime" moments always bogged things down a bit. It can't hold a candle to Young Justice, much less the Timm/Dini shows.

Agreed on the Robin moment though.

I disagree, I liked the anime style of it, it made Teen Titans stand out among the others and feel unique. I can't imagine it being nearly as iconic without the anime influence. It's my second favorite DC animated show next to Young Justice.

In fact I preferred the TT art over the Timmverse art, even though Justice League is an amazing show.

The issue with the animesque art was that it was so inconsistent in application and somewhat unclean. It may have felt different from the other DC shows, but in the wrong way, and it felt like any other "animesque" cartoon at times, aping various anime visual tropes, sometimes at the expense of otherwise meaningful moments, or just plain overcooking comedic ones.

The Timmverse style is practically ageless. True, the influences (Archie Comics, etc.) were also kind of on the sleeve, but there was far more subtlety, cleanliness, and consistency.

Different strokes I guess, I was fine with the animesque style and moments, never had a problem with it. Never cared if it was inconsistent or not and I definitely don't recall it ruining any potent moment, nor ruining a comedic moment either, in fact it enhanced the comedic moments a lot.

I just wasn't always a fan of the bulky male designs of Timmverse or the hourglass look to some women, nor the simplistic design of certain characters and sometimes the background felt rather plain. I'll be fair though, during that time you could still only do so much with animation. And I'm sure a newer cartoon from Bruce Timm would look awesome.

The art for the most recent DC animated series is by far my favorite. It's probably better than any other superhero shows to date. I fell in love with Young Justice because of it.
