The trope's description denotes snapping a losing streak or a winning streak in competitive settings like sports. Yet some works pages and character sheets have used this trope for whatever or whoever breaks a recurring trend.

Should we adjust the description so the "breaking a recurring trend" is accounted for, or should we make it an entirely new trope?

Bump to implement a usage list. Looking over the examples on the page:

Does not match description:

  • Pokémon - broken trend
  • Pope Francis- broken trend

Uncertain (they may be used correctly, but it's up to interpretation):

  • The music examples
  • Pixar
  • Brad Bird's involvement in Tomorrowland

The rest are correct uses, judging by the current description.

And the wicks not listed in the page:

Overall analysis: The page itself had a few strays, but looks all right. The wicks? Not so much.

Wait, are some of the fifty-odd topics in this forum with only one post in them actually open? Because I just assumed that when a moderator opened a topic, they added a message to indicate that it was in fact open.

Also, this is not tropeworthy and should be cut.

There are a few potential subtropes that are worth noting, like in gladiatorial combat, where the champion is touted as the most undefeatable thing ever, and the protagonists have no chance against him, but naturally that streak is ended because they are the protagonists (sort of like an invoked Worf Effect).

On the other hand, the page doesn't even mention that.

Finished the analysis on the wicks. Also purged a blatant misuse and a ZCE, both of which are struck through on the list.

Anyways, what does everyone else think should be done? I'd also like input on those examples I considered to be in the gray area.

Going to create a crowner, so we'll see what we can do with this trope.

Maybe the "broken trend" misuse could be split into its own trope?

[up]That's one of the possibilities I was thinking of. We'll see what the others think.

Okay, finally got the crowner ready to be hooked:

Are there any other options that we are missing?

Went ahead and commented out the two misuses on the page, since we haven't decided on anything yet.
