Refran cursed under his breath when the guards caught him running, trying to brake himself before crashing straight into them. Then the warf hear some shouting from behind, knowing exactly who that was. Goddamn it. The bounty hunter wasn't in sight yet, but damn if they weren't going to be soon... Ref needed to think of something. And excuse for the guards, and a way to get away from-...
...Get away from? Yeah, that worked! "A-Ah, es! Sorry, but what I'm running from, is a lunatic with a gun, es! The guy pulled it out on me for no reason, es, thought he was going to shoot and bolted straight up out of there! Hell, I don't know, they might still be chasing me es!" It wasn't a complete lie. The guy did have a gun, and Refran WAS running from Dart, but they didn't pull it out on him yet. Hope they do though.

The guards gave each other a quick glance, one raising an eyebrow while the other lowered both of his. The more inquisitive one glanced over at the street edge where a set up stairs came up, and walked towards it. "You stay right here" the suspicious one told Refran, sticking close to him and grabbing the handle of his own weapon; some sort of handheld, two barreled firearm.
Dart had managed to go up the stairs with an incredible speed, leaving Maximus lagged behind as he got slowed by the climb; Dart reached the top as the guard was still a couple paces away, his eyes widening in surprise as he saw Dart come up the stairs with two handguns drawn. "You there! Stop!" the guard yelled, and started to draw his sword.

You are reading this."Whoah there sonny!" Dart smiled lowering his arms and holstering his pistol. He recognized this overeager guard type and they were typically able to be reasoned with - provided that Dart turned on the charm.
"This guy and I just had a little disagreement a while back. Not to worry though. I won't settle it in this nice little town here." Dart promised.
"You're darn right you won't, now get out of here" the guard said, holding his sword in a defensive stance. He glared at Dart, waiting for the patchwalker to leave.
"What's all this about?" the other guard asked, keeping his firearm lowered and an eye on Refran.
You are reading this."I'd sure as hell like to and odds are that he's probably got some kind of a bounty on his head back in Exla but we should probably capture him first. Odds are that some of his buddies are skulking around and we could use him." Dart said, checking his bandolier, armor, and pistol, still staying close to the area where Refran was and keeping his eyes peeled.
Refran kept his hand closer to the 1.5 sword than he normally would throughout this ordeal, but it seemed the guard managed to shake off Dart for now... Whew. That was actually pretty scary. The warf scratched the back of his neck with one of his gloved hands, a sheepish smile creeping up on their face. "Err... Thanks for the help, es. I uh... Am I free to go now?" they questioned, obviously not convinced that the guards would let him go scot free after that little show was over. "I seriously did not mean to bring my personal issues into this town, es..."
The guard watched as Dart left, sheathing his sword after a few moments. He walked back over to Dart and Refran, quickly whispering something to the other guard that Refran didn't catch. "Yeah, you're free to go" the guard with the firearm said to Refran, then gave his comrade another quick glance and motioned down the street. The two of them walked off slowly, occasionally glancing back.
Refran had not spotted Dart and Maximus still snooping around, but in turn Dart and Maximus could not yet act without the guards probably spotting them.
You are reading this.Okay. That little bomb was defused. Refran would've even done a little tapdance to celebrate*, had the guards not been eyeing him even after departing. "...Geez. Even still stinks of... Whatever they use to fire their guns with." Refran pinched his nose and did a little wave with his hands, before shortly bursting out into a small bit of laughter. Always good to have some light-hearted fun after something so tense.
I should report this to Nathan. It'll get dark soon, anyway. the warf thought to himself, verifying what he needed to do. The sage probably wanted to hear about the fact their favorite gun-trotting Patchwalker was still around, bringing a new pal as well. He kept his eyes open and ears peeled, a lot more cautious now that he knew they were there. Ref tried to make his way back to the inn, unsuspecting of the fact he might be tailed.
It was easy for Refran to get back to the hotel; it was right there on the same street after all. He unfortunately still had no idea that Dart was watching him enter. Dart was greeted inside by a receptionist.
Outside, Dart would also see the two guards finally round the corner down the street and go out of sight. If he wanted to make a move now, it seemed that it was clear.
You are reading this.Dart was a bounty hunter and, over the years, he had learned to take the perfect opportunities that life so rarely gave you. He strode into the hotel confidently and adopted a beaming smile.
"Why hello there little lady. Might I say that you're looking as splendid as a basket of roses?" he tipped his hat to the receptionist.
"A warf fella just came into this hotel. I couldn't say for certain but I think me and him graduated from the same school. What room was he in?" he asked.
"The warf? Well, let me see" the receptionist said, giving Dart a return smile for his charms. Before she could find whatever she was looking for behind the desk though, someone cleared their throat very punctually behind Dart. That same pair of guards, looking none too amused, that had followed Dart inside.
"Did you really think we wouldn't notice you sticking around to snoop on that warf? You're bright orange you freakin' idiot" the guard with the sword told Dart, keeping his weapon sheathed, though his comrade as before was holding his gun pointed at the floor. ((OOC: Dart has been consistently failing background rolls against the guards since post 385.))
"Give us a good reason not to give you a one way trip straight out of town. Try some funny business and it'll be in a box, understand?" the guard with the gun added on.
You are reading this.Refran would've loved to honestly collapse on the floor and just whine when they saw Nathan. But that'd be a silly thing to do. The warf ran a hand through the front of his hair and wheezed, taking a good look around for a second. "Yeah, something's wrong, es." Ref began, going to sit down on the floor. Yes there were probably chairs. He didn't quite care. "Remember that Patchwalker we ran into back at the mine? Lo and behold, they be back on our tail again, es... And this time, they've brought a new friend, es." Ref closed his eyes for a bit, still remembering that fire. Dart was the only one able to get out by his own strength... A tough opponent, for sure. "The other two are nowhere to be seen. We might want to be careful, es."
"Don't worry my friend, we have an unexpected ace in store for them."
He pointed towards his trusty rock golem.
"I'd like to see their clumsy bullets damage rock. So long as we keep our heads and remain vigilant, they will not win."
He got back to reading his book.
"Our rivals will undoubtedly try something. Be wary, even here."
Inn
"Sorry, love. Just a moment to settle this misunderstanding." Dart smiled easily, trying not to display the level of fear that he felt.
"Apologies partners. I should have been more honest with you but, as I happen to be a bounty hunter, I know the stigma that decent, law-abiding folks like yourself have for my kind. But that warf I'm tracking down is a dangerous criminal, trying to stir up trouble here. I was going to bring him to justice. Would you care to assist."
"My right ass cheek he is. If that were true that would've been the first words out of your mouth when we met outside" the guard with the gun said, seeing through Dart's lie instantly. "You had your chance to follow due process; I'm not buying that you're having a change of heart on it now" he added, motioning his partner forward.
The other guard stepped closer to Dart, gripping his sword handle and sheath, ready for a quick draw. "You're leaving. Now. Clean way or the messy way, your choice" the guard told Dart, short and simple like.
You are reading this.Refran went to lie on his back, tail curling around the waist for comfort. He put his hands behind his head, finding peace of mind in just staring at the roof. "I dunno, Nate. The Rock Golem's neat, es, but there's the fact we're having to catch up to a moving train, es. I hope your horse can carry it, otherwise I can't see it ebign much use outside of being a bodyguard for our stay here, es." Refran shared his thoughts on the matter, then let out a yaw.
"Do you ever feel like people are doing stupid things around you without you knowing? 'Cause I'm getting that right now, es." the warf casually asked Nathan, thinking some drunk just walked in and made a mess of the floor... or... Something. There certainly was a bit of ruckus going on downstairs...
Thankfully for Dart, he was quick on the draw this time, getting both of the guards held up on gunpoint before either could get their weapon ready. The closer one even let go of his sword handle and took a step back, but his colleague kept his hands on his gun. Behind Dart, the receptionist screamed and hid behind her counter.
"Well now what, genius?" the guard with the gun asked Dart, watching the patchwalker's trigger finger intently, "you think you're gonna just walk away after threatening two guards?"
Less thankfully, Cocoa wasn't showing up yet, and the Dorothans upstairs had heard the scream clearly.
You are reading this.

"Hey stop!" Dart shouted to Refran and, pulling out his pistols, chased after him. Once Refran got within grasping reach, Dart would tackle him.
