Haven't finished the season, but it seems likely to me to come up.

That shot is in the finale, yes. This season has a lot of good shots like this with the full cast in frame - this is not even in the top 3.

Well... then that is a really cool shot and I'm going to be watching Season 2 today it seems.

Loved Season 2. I'm starting to actually believe these people actually care about each other.

What I didn't like, however, is how... convenient the finale is. I mean, Sun gets saved by that guy who comes out of nowhere, his brother once again escapes after a whole season of building Sun's attempt to kill him, the Sensates get into the super secret Not-CIA base (and get together too) without nobody noticing (and we don't get to see anything except the capture of Whispers and Jonas), all of them drop their respective subplots to leave for a plotline that's going to start to develope until next season... and, the worst offender, and not only of the finale but the whole season, is the numerous, numerous montages of the Sensates being together and having fun/enjoying life/whatever together. Come on, I get the hint already.

I mean, I don't want to be a bummer, but the finale felt rushed as hell. I think this season was two chapters short.

I still can't decide if I like the show or not...in: There are individual storylines I am invested in (mostly in the actor and the driver...and in Sun whenever the story doesn't turn into a bad anime series, which it does way too frequently), but a lot of plots just trickle through and make actually little to no sense. And the big mystery annoys the hell out of me. I keep thinking that the show would be the hell more interesting without it or at least with a much toned down version of it.

Just finished Season 1 and loved it. All the characters are well-developed, it's incredibly diverse, and it's far more global than your typical show (2 US, 2 Europe, 2 Asia, 1 Mexico, 1 Africa). All the characters bring something to the table in terms of skills (Sun for hand-to-hand combat, Will for ranged combat, Nomi's hacking, Kala's chemistry, Lito's acting, Capheus' driving, and Riley's currently The Heart and seems to have the strongest connection, since her listening to music in Episode 4 was the first thing that brought them all together at once, and in Episode 10 sparked their memories of their own births). Wolfgang is the one I connect with least; he's basically evil or borderline so, and he doesn't have any skills that aren't provided by Sun or Will. Kala, Sun, Riley, and Capheus are my favourites, though I'm not happy about them changing Capheus' actor for Season 2; they disn't even try to get someone who looks like him.

I love all the different environments and visuals. I love the theme-painted trucks in Nairobi. I love the characters' wonder in visiting other places. I like that three of the four characters from outside tne US and Europe are rich or middle-class, while three of the four from US and Europe (all but Will) are initiall poor. ( Riley's not actually, as we see when she heads home.) Korea's obviously a developed country, but a lazier show would default to making its Mexican and Indian characters worse-off than the US and European ones. I don't buy the explanation for Will's crappy apartment, though - cops don't get paid crap, they get paid very well - but if he's in downtown Chicago property prices are likely through the roof.

I like that they chose to highlight Hindu fundamentalism (as well as Kala's non-fundamentalism), whuch is a growing trend and often overlooked.

I don't find the show too "message-heavy". There's loads of political comments by Nomi and Amanita, but most of them I just regard as their own opinions and envirnoment (they're SF radicals) rather than an Aesop; it's not an authorial message any more than "JCVD is awesome" is an authorial message rather than Capheus' opinion.

The main thing I don't like about the show is the orgy scenes; I try to ignore or skip them.

The character I dislike most is Lito and Hernando's "friend". If a guy was always hanging around with Nomi and Amanita, taking exploitative pictures of them without their consent, and jerking off to them having sex, we wouldn't consider it even remotely okay. She has guts for goung back to her abusive boyfriend to protect Lito's reputation, but she did create that situation by taking the photos in the first place, so fixing it was her responsibility and saving her wasn't Lito's responsibility.

THAT cliffhanger!.. I have a feeling the first episode of season 3 will be explaining the last of season 2.

Yeah, their girlfriend caused the same problems for me. I hated her in Season 1 because this would never fly if it were flipped genders, but she got a pass because she was cute and a fan favorite and loved the hot gay guys.

I hated her going into Season 2 and... she redeemed herself for me half way through the season for me. I'm indifferent to her now. Don't hate her but she's not my favorite. Haven't finished Season 2 yet though.

Wait, what? I mean, I still haven't decided if the show is actually good or not, but there is no proper conclusion? Congrats, Netflix. You have just managed to earn a big black mark against you. I don't care how many seasons a show has, but I hate to get strung along and then never getting a proper conclusion.

I was more than willing to say The Get Down had it coming because of the Troubled Production and insane budget. Sense 8 being cancelled on the first day of Pride Month coupled with Netflix's memorandum that they would be more quick with handing out cancelations seems...off.

Well, Sense 8 had a $9 million to $10 million price tag per episode.

Assuming that the $10 million is consistent for all of Season 2 (Season 1 was mostly $9 million), then that's $110 million for the whole season. From my understanding, its one of Netflix's most expensive shows.

I do criticize that they've renewed some shows that don't really need it. '13 Reasons Why' completed its story arc. All of the reasons she died were revealed. Why are we giving it another season?

As much as I love Sense 8, I did feel Season 2 was weaker and this was a note I didn't want to go out on. Season 1 closed off its story arcs in a way that I felt closure, but I wanted to see more. Season 2 feels like the second part in a trilogy: There's a lot of set up, no one's story arcs have been completed, and it ends on an explicit cliffhanger. This is a TERRIBLE point to leave the story off on.

We can't even hope for a movie to end the story because the plot is too big. We don't have 2 or 3 lines with some waiting, we have NINE on-going and consistent plotlines with each of the main cast having their own story arcs and then there's the main one of BPO. That's simply too massive for any movie to wrap up convincingly in a 2.5 run time.

Did they try and negotiate a budget cut first? Honestly, the location filming has never really been essential to the show, most of the cast live in urban environments that are kind of samey in the modern globalized world.

I cancelled Netflix, first time since they launched in Ireland five years ago. This is the first time international fans could ever really fight a show's cancellation, as the traditional distribution system renders them kind of powerless, so I'd hope that could help....:/

Personally, the fact that international production companies were involved was a selling point to me. They had people from their respective locations giving input and adding to the show. It wasn't a backlot in LA trying to be Nairobi, it was shot in Nairobi.

I think maybe I'm at the "Bargaining" stage of loss...Probably would rob the show a lot if it wasn't international.

In any case, They were all in London at the end so they could have done a wrap-up on a lower budget.

Exactly. They were all at the same place, which could have lowered the budget considerably. Plus, now the show is pretty much worthless. Sooner or later someone will start some sort of website on which it will red flag all shows on Netflix which don't have a proper wrap-up, hence warning people away from them.

I'd argue against the whole 'Everyone is in London so it'll be easier to end'. I remember an interview suggesting that a third season would be the final due to high production costs.

But there are too many storylines left to wrap up that pretty much require certain settings to reappear. Caph. is running for a political position and has a girlfriend. Lito has a staring film role. Sun needs to catch her brother.

Any finale that didn't address these would be lesser to me.

[up] The Sun storyline is easily solved by the police officer waking up from coma and taking the brother down.

I'm really disappointed this was cancelled. Atleast do one more extended episode like the Christmas one to try and wrap as much as they can.

I agree that season one was far stronger. Season two just felt like way too much setup. I love the multicultural aspect of the show.

[up][up][up] If they really wanted to cheese it, have Sun's brother go on a business trip to London or have Nomi to hack in and arrange the trip. Lito's big budget film could always shoot on location in London.

This is The Get Down all over again. You can't spend $10 million an episode and have no one watch it. It sucks but it's economics.

Swanpride Since: Jun, 2013
#250: Jun 9th 2017 at 5:25:55 AM

[up] Sure, but if you have already spend that much, it makes much more sense to create a satisfying conclusion on a lower budget than leaving the show dangling without a proper end, hence ensuring that less people will watch it/eventually catch up on it.

Part of the reason people pay for Netflix is because they expect quality. If Netflix is now no longer finishing its TV shows, you end up in the same situation you have with network TV, that people become hesitant to watch it because they don't want to be left dangling.
