I liked tonight's episode. :)
Except for the Butter Face maid that Rapunzel mistook for Cassandra. She looked like a combination of this
◊, this
◊, and this
◊.

Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered! Not really. He was the source of some humor, but mostly for playing the straight man to Rapunzel's impulsive shenanigans. But he was obviously very capable. Here he gets eclipsed so much by Cassandra that he gets reduced to a comedy relief too often.
That said. "Cassandra vs Flynn" wasn't just a good episode- it actually made me *crack up* by the end!
Its my favorite episode so far.
And I disagree that it was all entirely Flynn's fault. OK so he acted exaggeratedly dumb (as usual in this series) but shouldn't Cassandra know better than to leave that halberd where he could find it? Not once but twice in fact (the second time with Rapunzel.) You know, given that every guard seems to have one, you have to wonder why Flynn wanted it so much- either he just wanted to piss her off, or it was just the sharpest one in the castle (probably the later, given how obsessesive she is.)
Once again Rapunzel pulls off incredible skills out of her- hair; I guess another thing she had nothing but time for in that tower was to work on puzzles. But since it set up the Enemy Mine situation I will give it a pass.
I kept waiting to see how their failure to cooperate would lead to the bad guys' escape and it was just because- they dropped the tools? Bo-ring!
Favorite moment: When Cassandra and Flynn are insulting each other and basically end up admitting their flaws. Flynn is egotistical to a fault; and Cassandra is hiding- something. Maybe some shame about her real parents? For the first time, I'm intrigued by her. Too bad we didn't learn more. Hope they pick up on this.
If Lady Cain comes back, I wouldn't be surprised if she's Cassandra's mother.
Though this is the first episode so far that I can really agree that Cass eclipsed Flynn competence wise. This one played him as either a Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass or even - at worst - a Genius Ditz, whereas the rest of the show at best just has him be Out of Focus.

Lady Cain looks like she's barely a decade older than Cassandra. I would have serious questions if that were the case.
Agreed, that part was dumb. The sideburnt Stabbington brother makes it sound like he has some plan to exploit them to help them escape, but ultimately it's entirely their own bungling that helps them do it bu total happenstance. Laaaaaame.

OK, so the hate-on for Cassandra's character has been so rabid with some viewers that she was labeled The Scrappy a while back just for her action in "Challenge Of The Brave" (of which, may I just say, there's no strong evidence at all in the episode that it could've gotten Rapunzel killed - hurt, yes, killed, no), but am I the only one viewing distrusting and sometimes disliking Cassandra for her moral sketchiness and Poisonous Friend qualities to be a possible Intended Audience Reaction? We've no idea where they're gonna go with Cassandra by the end of the season but for right now she seems to be the regular antagonistic character on the main cast, so without her there'd be less conflict for our two leading lovers on a day to day basis. I feel she ought to be appreciated for that at least.

I'd always compared her to Cedric and Chancellor Esteban myself, though in her case she's like Naomi Turner crossed with Chancellor Esteban. She at least tries to be a good enough friend to Rapunzel but is also a "not exactly bad person who possesses morally dubious qualities and plays antagonistic roles" character. Like Cedric, she might become less of a selfish jerk over time.
Or maybe not, the jury's still out on Esteban too.

I think it was, at least it first. I figure back during the pilot that her character flaws were probably intended to make the audience believe she was Lady Caine.

The most recent episode was probably my favorite yet. It's a standard plot, but the surprisingly mature way Eugene acts as it goes on is really refreshing.
It's interesting how this series averts the usual "always understanding parents" trope. The fact that Rapunzels parents are strict rulers who don't always forgive and dole out severe punishments and restrictions when people break the rules is a constant plot point that the characters have to deal with, and that's something you don't often see from Disney.
I liked it too. :)
What, no new episode tonight? That's appalling. x_x

Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!I doubt they forgot.
At this point, I'm guessing Season 1 is mostly going to be oneshots to get into the feel of the show, with only the last couple of episodes pertaining to the Myth Arc, like how most Western animated series that try to be both episodic had also have an arc do it.

I cannot talk for others, only for myself, and the series has yet to make me like her. But then, the show is pretty uneven: its had good episodes and terrible ones too. As a fan of the original movie that disappoints me a little, especially when you consider that the quality of the other current Disney Princess shows is pretty consistently good.
I got caught up on the newest episode. I like it. :)
@alanh: Having just watched tonight's newest episode, it seems they didn't forget about them after all.

Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered! The episode with Cassandra and her 'love interest' was another attempt to make her likable that, again, fails (for me.) First because it was apparent from the start it was just a ploy to steal the book, and second, I guessed that Cassandra herself was faking all along (she was just too out of character.) I *did* like two moments tough: when Cassandra explained why she didn't trust Rapunzel citing her previous screw-ups (continuity, in THIS show?
) and the fact she kept the rose, perhaps indicating that at least part of her did enjoy expressing her feminine side (but then, maybe it's just a trophy.) It would have been even better if Cassandra had at least felt some heartache, tho.
Yeah, while Rapunzel shouldn't have meddled so bad at first, this episode doesn't do a great job making Cass sympathetic later on - especially when she accuses Rapunzel of being untrustworthy because she always informs people who need to know of things that are serious and potentially life threatening.

Didn't the Stabbingtons appear in Tangled Ever After?
