This is outright bizarre because it isn't a case of a Ambiguously Brown character being played by a white latino, or a black latino being played by someone who's brown-ish.
It's straight up a black character◊ being played by the whitest Brazilian woman on Earth◊.
The fact they got a Brazilian (i.e Portuguese-speaking) actress to play a Hispanic (I.e Spanish-speaking) character is the coup de gráce.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."The last one wasn't much better either. Her◊ and Dawson◊ are of the same skin complexion.
And I wouldn't call her the "whitest" Brazilian, but the whitest of the mulattos. I've got some "black" people in my family that look similar to Braga. And her aunt Sonia Braga played MCU's Claire Temple’s(played Dawson) mom.

Just gonna reiterate my thoughts from the X-Men films thread but the trailer feels more like a flat out horror movie than a superhero movie.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Pretty sure that's what they were going for. Fox seems to have found their niche in doing superhero movies that are less formulaic than what the other studios are putting out (Deadpool being an R-rated comedy, Logan basically being a western, ect.)
Legion being...whatever you'd call Legion. Amazing. Incredible. Uncanny.
This kinda reinforces my earlier thoughts. While Fantastic Four should be back with Marvel yesterday, the mutants really fit better in their own universe, and able to do their own thing. It helps that they aren’t “Me too” films but genuinely play with the concept of a “comic book” movie.
Rahne Sinclair is my in for this movie. She at looks like a sheltered religious girl. I just hope they make her Presbyterian and not assume she’s Catholic.
I wonder how they will handle her werewolf powers.
...Forgot that was Rahne. Her being a werewolf does ifit pretty well with the whole horror atmosphere. I mean, you try and explain that to your religious parents or the sisters at Catholic school.
And Magik and Dani Moonstar are in this too, so yeah, there's a lot of occult-looking mutant powers in the mix here.
You did, my bad.

Didn’t I just say Rahne wasn’t Catholic, at least in the comics?
Anyway, I also made the werewolf/horror connection. I just hope she has control over it by the end of the movie or even when we first see her transform. After all, she isn’t the monster here. The demon bear is.
You don't need to be Catholic to go to Catholic school.
I knew people that went just because the education was better than public education since it was a private school.
Batman Ninja more like Batman's Bizarre AdventureInteresting trailer. Don’t think Pink Floyd was a good choice of song.
(V)(;,,;)(V)...On the one hand, I was expecting the New Mutants, not a horror movie that just so happens to be called 'The New Mutants.' If that makes any sense.
On the other hand, it's still got Illyana and Rahne in it, who are two of my favorite X-characters of all time and who I never thought would make it to the big screen, so I guess it'll be worth a watch for that alone.
Doctor Who — Long Way Around: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13536044/1/Doctor-Who-Long-Way-AroundIt also might have the Demon Bear.
All praise be to the Demon Bear.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Demon Bear isn't the main villain, though its inspired by that arc.
And yes, its a horror movie. And if Boone gets his way, the next two will be horror movies as well, but different kinds.
Boone, to my understanding, has been set to work on an adaptation of The Stand by Stephen King. If this goes well, he could very well get that chance. Seems quite weird for a guy whose first two films were romantic movies but hey, I ain't judging.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Well, he didn't write the second one.
and fun fact, the movie was shot on a real, former insane asylum.
This looks pretty crazy.
As much as I hate that the two universes remain separate, I admit that maybe X-Men does work better separate from the MCU.
One Strip! One Strip!I get that Fox is trying to make X-Men movies that don't fit into the typical superhero mold, but... New Mutants is not a horror movie. If the voiceover in the trailer hadn't said "mutants", I wouldn't even know it was a New Mutants movie.
The very best, like no one ever was. Check out my Spider-Man fanfic here! [1]The director is apparently a huge New Mutants fan, so I'm trusting him on this. This feels like Fox saying "Hey we're gonna redo Fant4stic but actually do it right this time", and I actually kinda have a little faith in this.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell? The movie's logo does has a Bill Sienkiewicz feel to it.

...
Well...that's something. Isn't it?
(Is anyone else questioning if this horror movie approach is actually a good idea?)

Yay another case of pretending black Latinos aren't a thing that exist.
