The new arrival jeers, "Hey, look over there!" He waves his hand and creates a phantom replica of himself, which then morphs into a cutting blade that rushes through the Headless Horseman. It may deal some amount of damage, but its real purpose is to instill a sense of paranoia and dread that compels the Horseman to turn around to check behind himself.

It may look different compared to what they know, but Nesley will be able to tell from the latent energies left in the wake of the attack. This punk used some kind of PSI.

Afterwards, the boy quickly points at the bridge without saying anything.

Vegeta flies up, seemingly to dodge, and look down at his pupil, watching him deploy a clever plot to entrap him. The Saiyan Prince, however, only blindly continue ascending, eyes to the top, until the rampaging energy causes him to lose mobility. He rises slowly, almost unbothered by the orbs, beforehand.

Amused, he looks down at his target and nods. I think you spent too long searching up the name, Courne. Vegeta points to his Final Cannon's orb, which is still floating in mid-air, and it should become apparent to Courne why he flew as far as he could before being paralyzed.

Boom.

Loki wordlessly hurries across the bridge with Nesley in tow, creating an illusion of himself running the opposite direction in a bid to distract the Headless Horseman.

Despite the fact that the Headless Horseman has mostly just been laughing maniacally, the new arrival's technique... actually seems to work, as the Headless Horseman goes silent and fully turns around.

And Nesley definitely sensed the similarity between his own PSI and the new guy's powers. They're not completely the same, but still definitely in the same category. It makes him stop in place for a moment.

"Who-", Nesley begins, but the new guy points towards the bridge. Between the guy seemingly being willing to face the horseman and him also apparently being able to keep that monstrosity at bay, Nesley decides to trust his judgement and continues to run.

"Thanks!", he calls out to him, making his way towards the bridge while Loki's crossing it.

Courne has what can only be described as an 'oh fuck' expression before Vegeta's attack goes boom.

Not longer after though, Courne flies back out of the dust cloud left by the explosion, now sporting a more red look than before.

"That could've been bad.", he mutters to himself, only to then hear Viche laugh at him in the distance.

"Something funny?", he calls back to him, unamused.

"There sure is, Mr. Strategy. He totally outplayed you!"

Courne just grumbles and dismisses it. Both because he can't really take his focus off of the battle and also because, despite Viche's usual little shit status, his laughing is not that mocking, he just sounds genuinely amused at the fact that Vegeta outplayed Courne so easily.

He immediately flies towards Vegeta, now using his own version of Vegeta's Technique™. Though of course, due to that brief little intermission from just now, Vegeta has probably had more than enough time to transform into his God form as well, so it's very unlikely that Courne will be able to take advantage of the power difference like Vegeta had done before.

"Hah! Can't believe that worked!"

   "Run!"    Líf rides past.

"Don't have to tell me twice!" The boy does another hand-wave, but this time instead of an attack, he teleports again, to catch up with the others.

"Name's Akira Tadokoro. Got here by teleport accident, nice to meetcha. I'm aware none of us except the skeleton seem to know what's happening, so I guess we're all just running together."

He speaks incredibly quick, not because he has a natural Motor Mouth but to save as much time as possible talking before the effect of Behind You wears off.

As soon as he and Nesley manage to cross the bridge, Loki shifts his gaze to the newcomer as the latter introduces himself.

"Hi, I'm Loki. What was that about the other undead rider knowing why our enemy is currently trying to kill my friend here?"

Good call. The instant Behind You wears off the Headless Horseman starts chasing them down like a maniac again.

Nesley can't immediately talk just yet, mainly due to the fact that he's out of breath.

The Headless Horseman gets to the bridge right as everyone else has crossed it, and...

he just... stops. In place. Seemingly staring them down (as much as he can stare), but no longer pursuing them. Why? Who knows. But for some reason he doesn't cross the bridge.

As he continues to just stand there, Nesley continues to catch his breath.

"H... hello. I'm Nesley. I... oh... god... give me a second."

"Well he's the only one who never questioned anything going on, but I haven't stopped to read his mind, so that was just a guess. I've half a mind to just burn this forest down." Akira surrounds himself in a swirling ring of bright blue flames...

"DO NOT,"    growls Líf as he catches up.

Akira lowers his hand and the flames disperse. He raises it again, but this time in an attempt to read the Headless Horseman's mind and get a read on his motives.

"That's strange... but I certainly won't complain about him halting his pursuit."

Akira will have no trouble reading the Headless Horseman's mind, but he won't find much of use. Most of his thoughts are muddled and hazy, supporting the fact that he may be a restless spirit. A few detached words may spring through, such as the words 'darkness' and 'soul'.

But he'll find one full string of clarity amongst everything else though. An old saying that goes as such:

"Once you cross that bridge, my friends, the ghost is through. His power ends."

That should tip Akira off. It's not that the Headless Horseman doesn't want to follow them, it's that he can't. They're all safe on this side of the bridge. Though it may be best to move a bit further away just in case the horseman starts throwing pumpkins again.

"Okay, I think... I think I'm good.", Nesley says, taking another deep breath. He looks at everyone else.

"I guess I owe you all now, huh?", he asks with a small, exhausted smile.

"Okay, yeah, he physically can't cross. We're in the clear." Akira flops down on his ass.

"So what's your story?" he asks Líf.

"I was merely looking to test my recently acquired power. It did not matter who I tested it on, but since you were the ones on the defensive, I chose to target your aggressor instead."

Relieved that they'd finally managed to shake the Headless Horseman, Loki turns his attention to Nesley.

"Indeed. Fortunately for you, I have but one thing to ask for," he replies. "Do you know if Locke might be busy with anything?"

His gaze then flickers to Lif when he reveals his reason for fighting the Horseman.

"Thanks, I suppose."

The sky squad is having some troubles fighting the Heldrake. One of wing flaps hits Super Beto, sending him towards the ground... Fortunately, his mother, Bely, was there to catch him, albeit unconscious.

Both squads hear the words of Eve.

"Quick, everybody! Let's help her!"

Some of the warriors decided to put traps in front of the portals. Susana wraps some portals into barriers; the Explora Colores set up their leftover contact mines in front of the portals; meanwhile, Gregoria and the Insect Ladies call for a swarm of bugs, who surround the creatures who dare to enter into the battlefield.

Meanwhile, Tatiana and Bely try to hold still the Heldrake, while Paty and Pampín target it with their best magic attacks! Mukade even gets into her Dynamax form, trying to punch it with her Poison jabs.

Dynamax turns: 1/3

...And what's up with Beto? He's with Luna and Co., trying to protect him and searching aid from Eve.

Terrarian, Skull Squadron, Arad, Ungthar, Bu, Paladin Simmons

Lourent

The Terrarian was shot backwards by the Lilligant's kicks. He was greatly innured, as evidenced by the dents and cracks in his armor as well as the blood seeping tbrough in specific points. The man downed a red potion and, while not fully healed, was back to operating condition. He lunged for the sword he had discarded, but now there was distance between the two. No problem.

He did the same as before, cutting a slash in reality, but this time rather than jump in, he reared back and jumped.

Finally, the gash closed and brought everything on the Terrarian's side of his slightly closer to the Lilligant at a violent speed. While all the stationary object remained stationary, the objects in motion going in the direction of the Lilligant were launched forwards at great speeds.

This included, of course, the Terrarian, who was now rocketing towards the Pokemon with his blade outstretched.

——

Group 2

Frank's roar finally began to die out, as he returned to a normal skin tone, before collapsing. Mac and Charlie both advanced towards him to ensure he was okay, out of protocol only as they already knew he was fine, but he’d be out for a bit. Such was a side effect of Rage, especially at his age. Meanwhile, Dennis stood guard at the door, while D pored over the consoles, trying to make sense of them. "What do I do to help?" He asked, looking closely at the screens.

Group 3

"Brought myself into a war I didn't even know was happening. You know, if I had a nickel for every time that happened to me, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice." He shook his head with a shrug, remembering again his days in the Origin System. "Yeah, I'm ready."

——

Astil

You feel vibrations from deep below…

Ungthar, of course, was swept up in combat. He leapt from the wall and onto one of the regrown trees, sliding down and joining in the fray. He struck at the weak points of Warp beasts, moving with surprising agility for a creature of his size and build. Of course, that was absolutely not to say that he was mowing down the enemy forces. Quite the opposite, in fact. He understood his own strength, picking and choosing his battles. He struck hard at already weakened enemies, doing less killing and more tying up the loose ends and unfinished jobs of other fighters. The ape would escape and target another beast at the slightest sign of danger, because he knew his own limits.

Ungthar was so caught up in the frenzy of fighting that he failed to notice a number of subtle things.

The sway of trees. The ripples in pools of blood on the ground. The slight vibration of soil and stone as something massive lurked beneath the surface, growing ever closer.

——

Podtide

"You battle well, woman!" Bu yelled over the sound of metal on metal and dying screams as he fought against the daemons. However, when the cyborg appeared, his cheerful approach to this changed into a grimace on his face. "You betray your body. Your natural strength. Why do you do this to yourself?" He asked, the warrior personality dropped suddenly.

The brawler allowed himself to be dragged into close proximity, where he could beat the Cyborg's ass best, his arm blazing in yellow flame as he attempted to punch into and through the Cyborg’s claw once he was close enough.

Onyxis, Snowfields

Bookstore had been driving the loaded APC through the snow for about twenty minutes before they finally saw some action. When they did, it came in the form of an explosion rocking the snow beside the vehicle, the source being some kind of artillery in the distance. They were getting close.

The artillery strikes grew more and more frequent. For narrative reasons only, if the APC had a shield, many would hit it directly, but if not then many would be close calls but no dice.

Finally, they got close enough that the cube, concrete warehouse was visible in the distance, and a bulky mech stood alongside multiple infantry bots, as if waiting for the APC to make a move.

"Well, here goes." Paladin Simmons groaned, before leaping out of the vehicle and dashing for cover behind a boulder, gunshots ricocheting off of his armor as he ran.

With great power…you know the rest.

Odio

The Doom hunter gets pierced by the attack effortlessly. But that doesn't stop him from speaking or working, somehow.

WAIT, REALLY? CAN YOU TELL ME MORE? I'M GENUINELY CURIOUS NOW.

He tries to lever Odio out of his body with his (currently inactive) chainsaw arm, but doesn't attack otherwise. He has his fire blaster lowered.

Malenia contemplates Grimgor and nods, her point understood. She turns, and jump into the melee, spotting and killing anything that looks more deformed than an Ork, which is a bit of a complicated category admittedly, but she can identify Warp beings pretty easily because they fulfill that condition in fucking style.

She decides to enter the fray with a Waterfowl Dance, leaping gracefully into the air before coming down like a murder storm of blades. Truth to be told, she's a bit disappointed at being interrupted again, especially since she wasn't in the best position before this. It feels like she was saved by the bell, which she finds highly annoying.

Still, as her sword attempts to slice things to little bits, se begins to heal herself slowly, although the damage is such that even at her pace, it'll take a while before she's fully recovered.

SOLOPOST Part 2/2: Short Life Of A Butterfly: Do Threads Ever Hold Despair?

Terra, 20XX

"Hey, are you still there?"

The young man shudders, awoken from his daydreaming.

"Yeah, yeah," the man replies, seemingly only half-awake. Soon enough, he gets up from the small wooden chair he was sitting on and looks around.

Right, the mission.

Today is a big day for our hero. Phillip would go on his first proper armed mission, however, unlike the other "volunteers" (actually chosen by lottery), he wasn't particularly excited.
Yeah, being allowed to shoot when threatened is cool and all, but, man, why's it made out to be such a big deal? We're just keeping one guy captive, after all. What is it with all of the safety precautions, training and, most alarmingly, the fact they need six men to carry out some scouting? It's just not adding up...
Phillip's sky-blue eyes would shut as the man would start stretching a bit - or, uhm, at least trying to do so. The heavy, black attire he was forced to wear constricted his movement, but it allegedly provided the best protection out there (another red flag...), so it's not like he could complain.

"Come on, rise and shine, Baby Blue!"
"Terry, I already told you to not call me that."
"Aww, chill out! Being all sleepy and stressed won't help you, not one bit! Ahahaha!"

Phillip couldn't help but smile a little at his friend's carefree attitude. Meanwhile, Terry started rounding up the other four volunteers.

"Alright, let's get ready, everyone. Rolling out in fifteen minutes. Will?
"Right here."
"Brian?"
"At your service!"
"George?"
"...here."
"And Mark?
"Haven't gone anywhere yet."
"Great! Let's make our way over to the elevator. They'll probably give us some final instructions there."

There wasn't much room for debate, so the scouting crew followed Terry to the main site's emergency elevator without saying another word.

The task was simple - make your way from the emergency elevator (2) to the Subject's room (!), see what they are doing, inform them of their repeated failures at contact and, if possible, extract them back to the surface by any means necessary.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nenaki_map_png_2_3.png

Of course, nothing can be that simple, can it?

As the six moderately-armed men entered the emergency elevator and started going down, a sense of dread, caused by the stressed and panicked faces of the higher standing officers, followed them from the surface into the deepest location of Site P.R.I.M.E - the Subject #NZ Containment Floor, 250 meters below the surface.

When the elevator doors opened, the dread of the situation seemed to rise to new, unparalleled heights. The mixture of the complete silence, perfectly clean, gray walls and unnaturally white light, emanating from the long, straight ceiling lights was like something straight out of a horror scenario. The volunteers seemingly agreed with the notion as they stood there, acknowledging the situation that they were in.
Tired of waiting, George took the first step forward, raising his gun as he started scanning the hallway for threats. He briefly looks back to say:

"...what are you all standing there for? Securing the area won't do itself. Can someone back me up...?"

George's words managed to snap the others out of their inaction. Terry, as eager as ever, walks up to George to make sure the crossroads are safe, during which the rest of the volunteers spill out of the elevator. After a short while, spent at searching every nook and cranny aside from the Subject's room, the six scouts walk up to the blue-marked door, which came with a terminal, used to input a passcode.

"Alright, I guess this is it. Now, the code..."

2
1
3
7

"Is everyone ready?"

"Absolutely!"

A heavy sigh leaves Phillip's mouth as he presses the CONFIRM button.

BEEP!

The heavy, metal door starts to open, slowly but surely. The six men raise their weapons and prepare for the worst. However, before they can see anything specific, a bright light from the other side of the door briefly blinds them. As their eyes get accustomed to it, they slowly start to make out things in the other room.
Its size was made less noticeable by the basic household items and utilities placed along the eastern and western walls; things ranging from pots and pans to ovens, wardrobes and even a bed. The floor, however, was much more eye-catching. Long strands of thread, strewn on the floor in colorful, dazzling patterns created something along the lines of a maze or floor decoration; their chaotic placements seemed almost calculated, like a piece of abstract art with pure dedication and effort put into it; the chaos was soothing, almost thought provoking, but, at the very least, truly beautiful. However, the most important thing was positioned across from the scouts. The source of the light was a confusing contraption: what looked like a large, mechanical, square frame was placed by the northernmost wall. Upon closer inspection, it must've been made from scrap parts and... some sewing machines...? Their remains were constantly moving from one side of their part of the frame to another, creating a thread, flowing in the air - its movement could only be described as perfect. The eight visible threads were constantly flowing in this perfect manner, creating a dazzling light, seemingly from nothing. In front of the machine sat a figure, completely focused on the flow of the threads, as if nothing else in the world mattered. The floor decorations were wrapped around where they sat, and the shadow they cast was reaching far behind the volunteers.
Suddenly, the individual stands up, moves their head from one side to the other, and turns around. Discerning their face or any other features of their build was heavily hampered by the light behind them, but the scouts could see their outfit was similar to a custom school uniform crossed with a researcher's gown, but with various oddities, such as the bluish cowboy hat on their head and fingerless gloves they wore. Their face, on the other hand, didn't give off any sort of emotion. The masculine facial features of the individual appeared as if they were frozen in their default state, but the Subject's dark green eyes were seemingly looking deep into the minds and souls of the volunteers.
As the person began to speak, a warm, friendly, masculine voice was welcomed into the group's eardrums:

"Hmmm... I see they brought me some friends. Took them long enough,"    the man would state before yawning.    "I was getting real bored just sitting here. Now, let me guess... you're Phillip, you're Jerry... or Terry, that's Mark, you're Brian, you're probably Will, and you... you look like a George to me,    the Subject would continue before striking a dramatic pose and saying:
   "Is that correct?"

The scouts simply stand there, flabbergasted.

"Right on the money, huh? You're all too easy to read. How boring... Welp, in that case, I'll just end your mission quickly."

The Subject flicks his wrist.

...

...

SCHLINK!

Out of nowhere, Mark and Will fall to the ground, covered in blood.

"WHHHHHHHHAAAAAATTTTT?!?!?"

"Hmmm... approximately eleven lacerations each. If you get them help as quickly as you can, they may even survive,    the Subject would state before throwing a med kit their way.

"I'LL KILL YOU, YOU BASTARD!"

George and Brian, overtaken by anger, immediately started shooting at the individual.

   "Chump change."

The Subject raises their right hand. As the bullets are about to make contact, they slide up and above the Subject, then back at the scouts. Multiple of them pierce the two attackers, while the rest of the projectiles fire off towards the firearms of the others, effectively turning them into melee weapons.
Frozen in fear, the two friends stand in the blood of their companions. Suddenly, Phillip notices something...

"So you finally noticed. Not the best perception in my opinion."

The Subject was surrounded by light blue, glowing threads, all of which seemingly coming from his right hand, or, more specifically, his fingerless gloves. On closer inspection, similar threads appeared to be coming from his left hand, flowing in a remarkably similar manner to the ones in the strange machine.
They must've been covered up the light shining from behind the enemy...

"Who... what are you?"

The Subject tilts his head to his right.

"So you don't consider me human? How sad. Oh well, it's not like I care anyway. To answer your question... I am Nenaki Zetsubi, the P.R.I.M.E Subject and Ultimate Despair! Now, cease!"

Nenaki slightly lowers his right hand and raises his left hand to about chest level. The threads coming from his right hand connect with the floor and stiffen, taking on the appearance of strings you'd find on a harp. He delicately runs his fingers across them, generating a couple of soft chords...
...which cause the remaining scouts to fall asleep.

Pathetic. You could've tried harder, at least.

The Subject turns around to face the strange machine.

"At last... after all of this time, these days spent sitting and observing... I have obtained Fate's most powerful gift! Now now, no more stalling. Goodbye, Terra, I'm going on a ride! Destination - new world! HAAAAAA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HAAA!! AHHH-HA-HA-HA-HAAA!!"

Thor stumbles his way out into the courtyard, attempting to fly over to the fort first, because he's a tryhard. His eyes still sore, and still a bit stunned as a whole, he prioritizes trying to get to the intelligence first.

Sarah doesn't say anything to him as he fly by, because she doesn't want him to get enraged and then promptly evacuate that rage on Rumia and Stefan, so she just sit still for now, patting her necrosword as it gets its mass back together.

...

Vegeta did not go God, but he did do the next big thing: he charged up a move, namely, the infamous Big Bang Attack. The blue energy accumulates in the palm of his hand quietly, without the fanfare of a Final Flash, as he observes Courne discuss with Viche. Whom he doesn't care for, though he still waits before firing it, if only because the attack will only get stronger that way.

You made me wait!

Vegeta unflinchingly fires the move at Courne, the energy ball's size increasing to be about as large as Courne himself; It barrels through the energy blast, leaving golden explosions in its wake as the ball attempts to smack into him. If it does, it'll drag him into the ocean before imploding, causing a great column of water to raise to the sky, raining over the land.

If not, then Vegeta waits for Courne to come his way, smiling in appreciation as he folds his arms.

...

That boy Adam is running along the APC, because his skin is about all he needs for protection and he can more easily get rid of explodothings there. He swish and swush and slash Gram, cutting apart explosives in mid-air, although he prioritizes getting to the enemy base first. He smiles eagerly, anticipating a slaughter like none has ever seen.

You will atone for your violent ways in blood! he screams, accelerating to the entrance of the base and overtaking the APC.

Surely nothing will go wrong!

Green's way of sight was always different thanks to a chunk of gold and jewelry blocking her eyes ever since she was a toddler. To her, the world is a black slate, being filled by frequent silhouettes in the form of white strings and waves. Familiar sounds and voices constituted as friends; like Mark or Amy. And friends mean fighting buddies or people who help the fighting buddy. But this, this is the first time that she has acquired a new definition of familiarity. One that aligns with the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH. One that resonates with her primeval tastes to the point where it reinvigorates her. It transcends familiarity and registers to her as if she was all the thousands of Greenskins at once.

Her sight of Skarsnik, after the Greenskin's have greened, becomes incredibly clear, like she could see him with her own human eyes without obstruction, in full color. She catches up to the kunnin' of the brutals. Fully enthusiastic about what the earlier deal, but because she's too fucking excited to put anything to words all that's heard is her most joyous of yelling.

Once Thor goes past, Rumia drops the darkness. She then simply grabs Stefan and starts flying to the intel room while dragging him along. She doesn't need to be told that twice. Once there, assuming no interruptions, she'd let him cap the intel then start dragging him again when he's done.

Flandre doesn't say anything to Thor either, she figures it'd be boring if he ended things by charging those two right now.

"Thanks for that.", Nesley says to Líf, sounding genuine. He then turns to Loki.

"Locke? I dunno, I haven't been in Pseudo's base in months. I sometimes see him when he's out getting groceries in the town though. Why?"

He then snaps his fingers.

"Wait, right, I was also gonna ask Pseudo if he knows anything about the Vahki that attacked me. If you need Locke, maybe we could go toge-"

Cue Nesley suddenly getting beaned in the face by a pumpkin. The Headless Horseman laughs again, yet somehow this one sounds a bit more trollish.

Now, this doesn't mean that the saying Akira found in the horseman's mind was wrong, the latter really cannot cross the bridge as his power would fade. But that just means that any flaming pumpkin he'd throw would lose its flames once across the bridge. Meaning he could still deck Nesley with a normal pumpkin.

Nesley sits up, not looking amused at all. His eyes briefly glow red again as he glares at the horseman, and in that brief moment Akira may be able to sense a serious spike in psychic power within the boy. But that fades again the moment he makes himself calm down.

"If I wasn't exhausted I'd blast that guy in his non-existent face.", he grumbles. It might be best to move some distance away from the bridge, out of the horseman's throwing reach.

The Big Bang attack is a very powerful attack. However, the power difference between a Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan God is just too vast for that attack to make up for it.

Courne stops his Vegeta's Technique™, instead blasting a bigger beam forward to tear through the Big Bang attack, flying through the explosion at amazing speed and attempting to deliver the same kind of potent gut punch that Courne himself got earlier in the fight.

"I won't let you wait again.", Courne confidently says, regardless of if his gut punch actually landed or not (though the chance is big, considering that he's now much faster than Vegeta).

Now taking a page out of Vegeta's book, he tries to overwhelm him with a flurry of powerful punches and kicks, attempting to give him no chance to transform either. If successful, he'll end off his barrage with a downwards Ki blast, attempting to have Vegeta be the one crashing down into the ground this time.

In the year 202X, all is devastation... Soon, any last shred of hope had by the saintliest optimist shall die and decay.

"There's something I've been meaning to discuss with him," Loki simply replies, sheathing Nightbane once more. "Rest assured, we aren't secretly planning to subject you to any elaborate practical jokes."

He tries his hardest to suppress a chuckle when the Horseman beans Nesley with a non-flaming pumpkin before moving away from the bridge.

Lilligant

Fortunately, Lilligant was already near defeat, and a "merely strong" hit is enough. Lilligant is frozen, then smashed out of the ice by Yuji, staggering to one knee before being laid out flat by the Terrarian.

Zenitsu quickly lets go of his sword, canceling his prepared attack. "Okay, if this is the same deal as last time, we should be good to go now!"

"Last time?" Sub-Zero lowers his battle stance.

"There are other beasts like this one. They're just lashing out in pain due to these flying leech monsters called Qurio."

Zenitsu rubs his chin. "Speaking of that, there's a dragon going around the sites of afflicted creatures and recruiting the people who fight them for a future battle with the master of the Qurio. I'm surprised it hasn't shown up yet."

Forest

Akira returns fire by throwing an ordinary pumpkin back using psychokinesis, then skedaddles with the others, listening to their conversation.

Líf, meanwhile, disappears from sight the moment nobody's looking.
