Happenstance - Onyxis

The nerves that knocked at Filia's door dulled in the wake of Somu's interested gaze. Any help was good help, and given the magical power that surged from this man, Filia was confident no demonstration would be necessary.

"The man who did this, a templar, came to snuff me out. My people's war with his ended over a century ago, and my people fell to extinction not long after."

She paused, turning back to the stain on the ground, her gaze moving up to the star above, breaching the thick clouds to rest its rays gently on the ground.

"I was a child then, swept away from the war in its final act. Now, long after its end, I am confronted with the same foe that took everything to defeat. I can't do it alone, and if I fall, my people's memory will go with me."

Filia, again, paused.

   "I only want to survive."

She mumbled.

TARIS

Previously, in Mal's saga...

For many, it was a sea of circuits. An incomprehensible mess of cables, boards, screws and other needlessly fragile things that could and would be blown apart if so much as an errant wind snuck into the circuitry. For Théo, it was a comforting and familiar sight. He found other people so... cryptic and pushy sometimes. So weird and complicated in how they could react. And by people, he meant Zao and his friends.

But circuits? Gyros? Cables? There's always something expected with them, it's only a matter of fixing it. You can never be truly surprised, because whatever happens, there's a way to fix or undo it. You can't upset a cable. You can't anger machinery. You just need to fix it. And as Théo finished fixing his father's computer, completing his work by making sure the screws were in their right place and right time, he found himself at ease, after the humiliating (if hopeful) meeting with Zao and co and his weird encounter with that Jedi, Bone.

And as he dove back into the real world, he was further comforted seeing his father's proud face beaming down at him, the older Twi'Lek picking up his son and lifting him off the ground.

Well done, Théo! You fixed this machinery better than those so-called experts I called did! The politician reached into his pocket and, from it, pulled out something he always kept at hand to appease his youngest offspring. A candy, which the latter happily picked out as his old man settled him down, closing down the plate leading to the complex machinery. The young Twi'Lek unwrapped the candy and threw aside its emptied plastic shell into a nearby bin, shoving the candy into his mouth and appreciating the taste of it, as well as the metaphorical taste of pride and victory.

He loved it so much when his dad praised him! Once you'll be of age, I can see a lot of schools fighting over picking you up! Talents like these aren't seen in generations! You'll be an engineer to make your father proud! Théo actually froze at that statement, nearly choking upon his candy. Engineering? That was cool, he loved circuits and all, but...

... Thank you papa but could I pilot a mobile suit instead, once i get big like you?

Zilmo shrugged, smiling either way. You'll have to prove yourself as a pilot. But if those incapables outside can do it, why won't you? Perhaps you'll make your own sometimes down the years!

I'd name it after you! The Zilm-0!

Atta boy! His father said, leaning over to pet his son on the head. You have... a lot of your mother in you but also a lot of me, unlike your brother! Why, perhaps it could become our dynasty's Mobile Suit? He leaned back in, carressing his bloated hin.

What's a deenasty? is it bad? Théo blinked, and looked down. His father had mentioned something key. Something he forgot to bring out. ... What do you mean I have a lot of mom in me? I-

Shhh, it's beginning! I have to see my fellow mayors to discuss... that little issue you heard about. Don't leave! Stay there, on that chair!

ok Théo sat, and his father distributed him more candies to distract himself with. The room they were in was mostly flat and empty - aside from a very specific spot, behind his father, where a lots of pretty portraits, shelves full of prestigious stuff and other things Théo found mightily impressive sat. His own father had discarded his robes to wear something much more official, and before tasking his son with repairing his computer, he'd tasked him with putting on a blue shirt with golden buttons and white pants.

He found it a little tight, but held on, watching as his father's screen displayed several more faces...

... that all began shouting at each other.

time passes

You ran on a platform of cracking down on crime, Zilmo. How are you unable to solve these kidnapping problems even with all the funds you're getting?! You have Mobile Suits in the street with loaded weapons, for fuck sake! We're talking about criminals who break into houses unseen by anyone, you think that the Mobile Suits will solve this?!

The full power you've given to your Kath Hounds certainly hasn't done anything too! I've had some of my constituents arrested because they looked funny! How is that tolerated?! The curfew is killing the businesses of our cantinas!

You've turned down the Jedi?!

I'm at least trying something, you incompetent fools! The Mobile Suits are controlled by ace pilots who are ready to intervene swiftly and decisively to put a stop to these kidnappings across Taris - If you just were to agree to let them go into the Lower City-

So they can tear it apart?!

Yes, so they can tear apart this nest of murderers, kidnappers and drug dealers! You idiots are wondering why it rain and not even looking for the clouds! If you were to give me more power, I could-

-organize a massacre?! Not on our watch! Coordinate with the Jedi already, you bloated imbecile, they're here to help!

Jedi defiled this planet once and I am not going to let them get involved in its affairs again!

It was thousands of years ago you slug! You're not even from Taris! Don't think the family name you stole from your wife means anything to us!

Vilmo groaned and snapped his fingers - Théo blinked then got off his chair to approach, letting his father pull him unto his lap. Where the young Twi'Lek found himself glared down at by many angry faces. All of them alien to him, though most softened their eyes upon him. Or at least, looked away from him.

I do not want my son to grow up being envied and hated because of where he was born into. The Lower City is obviously connected to these kidnappings - how long must it take us before we clean up our streets? It will send a strong and decisive message. And those with a fiber of morality still hanging around that rotten carcass of a district will simply... pick their places of dwelling better afterwards, I assume.

... Convene with the Jedi. Until so, we will veto anything you propose. Dismissed.

The faces disappeared, the screen went dark and Vilmo sighed, setting a confused Théo aside. Théo did not like to see his dad looking sad, but before he could ask him if he was upset and why, the older Twi'Lek shook his head. Before me, there was a man who was very evil, Théo. He used his powers to line up his own pockets and neglect his citizen. Your mother and I removed him from power, rightfully so, but with every day that pass, I'm more and more sympathetic towards him. How can one work to fix obvious problems when they find themselves pulled away from the practical solution? Théo opened his mouth, but Vilmo just raised his hand. Ah, nevermind. That is an adult's problem, and you are still a child. Do not worry about me.

Théo didn't get what he was ranting about, but he pretended to get to and listen to make his dad happy.

... Papa? Can I say something? Théo said, immediately after. He'd have asked about his mom earlier, but having been given time to think and mull over had made him change his mind. ... I think I'm in love.

Hm? The rotund alien raised an eyebrow, slightly baffled. Théo blushed, but moved his arms upwards, curving them around empty air.

I saw a girl recently and huh... Théo didn't notice his dad leaning back unto his desk to pull a shelf open. I kind of feel... hot in my cheeks. And I want to hold her close to me and tell her nice things, like that she has nice teeth or... hair. And I don't want to let go. Is that love? Did you feel that with mom? Théo stopped, as he saw his old man grab a bottle of something. It was a spherical-shaped glass handle, with an inscrutable black liquid inside and a long neck.

You're in love, yes. And a step closer to manhood. Drink.

But isn't that... adult juice?

Yes, you get a taste. Being in love... It makes a boy into a man. He undid the cork and handled the bottle over to Théo, who stared at the bottlenecked abyss held into the recipient. Your brother didn't get to taste it yet because he still loves his toys and other silly things, he's a boy preoccupied with little unimportant things. You are closer to being a man because you love. And that is something only men do. Drink.

Faced with the perspective of outdoing his brother again and pleasing his dad, who'd surely be dissapointed if he backed off, Théo raised the bottle and downed the drink. He almost instantly regretted it and wondered not why his father had kept his hands on the bottle - it tasted like liquid fire. Pure heat melting down into his throat, raining down on his heart and lungs and splashing into his stomach to replace its acid.

His innards felt like they'd be forever sore. And his throat burned him like it had been punched severely - Théo wanted to spit out the liquid but held on, coughing but holding unto it as his own father held the bottle to his lips and casually downed it. After a few seconds of treating this disgusting tar as if it was water, he lowered his drink, wiped his lips and leaned forward.

Aaaaaah. He said, exhaling. Théo hadn't realized he didn't do this, so...

aaaaaaaaaaa He exhaled back. His father smiled.

I'm only so... sorry that your first taste at romance is going to sting, my son. It's that Jedi girl, isn't it?

Théo winced. Bone, yea

Don't. His father softly said, nodding left and right. My counsel as one man to a boy on his way to become one. Don't.

But whyyyyyyy? Théo said, putting on his best puppy dog eyes. His father scoffed but corrected himself, leaning back on his seat.

Jedi do not look kindly upon love, they believe it to be a conduit to... evil. Your romance will be endangered by the Jedi, who will seek to split you apart. And as well, if she is a Jedi... My boy, trust me when I say this, but women like this are born to be comets. Brillant, but temporary. They will accompany you for a moment of your life, and that moment will be so bright as to make the rest of your life... dull, in comparison. You will be left watching the trail of her passage once she outspeeds you, with the fruits of your labors in your arms, wondering what to do next. That girl, Bone, is a comet. And should you go with her, you will undoubtly end up left behind. It is how things are.

Théo looked down, dissapointed at not getting something. As the Mayor's youngest and favorite son, there was very little he craved for. And what he did, he could conjure by asking his father.

But not getting with that girl? To not get to know her for the rest of his life? He was sure and certain that he would be dissapointed either way. But the Théo who got to fly by this comet's side would be an happier one than the one who watched it soar by.

For his part, Vilmo was sympathetic to his son, putting an hefty hand upon his shoulder as he reignited his screen. There, his hands did magic on an invisible keyboard, and hundreds of potraits of young girl Théo's age appeared upon it.

These are the daughters of powerful political figures - If you are specifically attracted to Nautolans, this one is the daughter of a good friend of mine, the chief of police. Why, being his son-in-law might just put you in the right place to pilot one of these... Zeke, Zak.. Zakus flying outside, in the future. Imagine that - You will become an herald of justice! With a loving wife by your side, who will not leave you behind and stay with you until-

That's cool Théo said, disheartened. And looking up at his father in slight resentment.

You may be angry at me now, my boy. But one day, you'll realize the wisdom in my words. And if I happen to fail you utterly at a father, then, be it so that you may regret not heeding them.

Théo nodded and slinked off the room, down the hallway. That was not the talk he had wanted. And what he sought, right now, was something different. Something that could contrast the cold reality he'd been just subject to.

... Maybe his brother could? He was bigger than Théo, and he had a "girlfriend" or something. So Théo got up the stairs and approached his room. His friends should be gone by now - he didn't want to talk this in front of them, especially that human. Finding the door half-opened, with no sound coming out, Théo assumed the best and approached, knocking lightly on the door.

Zao? Can I... ask you to be a good big brother and listen to me? I'll put some of my trophies unto your desk if you wanna but...

No responses.

Théo blinked once, then twice, then thrice then to his own surprised lashed out at the door with surprising rage, pushing it open. Zao! Stop ignoring m- His rage left his heart as quickly as it'd accessed it. And his heart, still warm from the alcohol, grew cold.

Zao's room was empty. And in the middle of it, left on the carpet, was a letter. A primitive communication method which Théo picked up quickly.

"Blech. There's something artificial in their blood." Kurumi remarked as she drank some of it, blanching. "Which I suppose explains their abilities."

With that done they move out, though she frowns at Sisyphus.

"I have never had a burger in my life." she says, raising an eyebrow. "...Mostly because they weren't a thing where I lived."

"...I can try. They don't seem psychotic enough to be shooting random wildlife." she says to his suggestion, turning into a bat once again and moving to fly overhead to get a lay of the land from a bird's eye view; trying to spot any blind spots in their patrols or alternate paths to their destination. Assuming they didn't shoot at her she'd take a longer, indirect path back to Sisyphus to report back...

The Sentinel of Stone

Veyolkos would find an overhang but he'd have to somehow lure the beast closer, as it's just out of reach of a theoretical collapse. He did succeed in distracting it from retaliating on the lizardman and riders' attacks though, earning a black swordbeam from the Poacher whilst the Gravios swung its tail at the FOUL TARNISHED before stopping in place as the lightning spear hits it; groaning.

[ELEMENT SHIFT]

The Gravios' veins glow blue instead of green, as it roars and opens its maw. A high pressure beam of water that can cut through metal bursts out, flying straight at Nick! It'd then drag it along to try and catch the Tarnished as well.

Talion's arrows riddle the chinks in Sauron's armor. Finally, some solid damage.

Unfortunately, he does not take kindly to that.

He transforms in a flash of fire, becoming his elven form again, now with a subtle blue glowing aura about him.

Then he scrapes the Binding Blade in a circular arc against the ground before slashing at Talion, unleashing a massive fire wave that leaves the ground ablaze in its wake.

Eventually they reach dry land, a dock in hub centralis. The U-801 Mad Angler surfaces and stops, opening the top hatch of the main MS bay.

"Welp, this is where you guys get off I suppose." Kana shrugs at the gang who I will fiat have gathered here since they were informed ahead of time they were close to land. She then grins at them. "I'd say it'd be nice to fight together again sometime but to be honest, I'm more thrilled at the idea of fighting you."

With that, she waits for them to leave. Once they do, she goes back to overseeing the mechanics work on her mobile suit.

Julius' Castle

Validar picks up a tome from his desk.

"Aversa, are you ready to go? The command is to be given out any minute."

No answer. Validar turns to Aversa, who seems lost in thought.

"Aversa."   , he says, voice a little louder. She snaps out of her thoughts now.

"Yes?"

   "Are you ready?"

"O-oh. Yes, of course."

Validar raises an eyebrow.

"What's worrying you? You can't be distracted on the battlefield."

"... Morgan will be there, won't he?"

"Most likely, yes. You're not hesitating on engaging combat with him, are you?"

"..."

"Family or not, a traitor to the Grimleal is to be exterminated. Keep that in mind before I start doubting your loyalty. Now go get your pegasus."

"I... yes, lord Validar."

Grima stares out of the window of the castle. Her research had paid off, she knows what to do now. But before she can-

   "Anxious?"

Grima glances behind her.

"Why should I be? I've planned out everything necessary. There's nothing that can go wrong now."   , she says to Julius.

"Then I hope you don't mind me tagging along for a bit?"

"... do what you want. Just don't get in my way."

"Of course not. In fact, I'll even go fetch your Shepherds for you."

"You simply can't wait for me to be out of your hair, can you?"   , Grima says while looking away again. Julius' grin grows. How very accurate of her.

Malftermath

Mal rolled out of town with his new Mobile Suit, the ZILM-0. He checked it as he left, as if to ensure everything about this particular suit was correct. He'd rather heavily modified the Zaku Maul had given him, first electing to discard the gaudy red entirely for a noble blue, which would make his suit go four times faster. Then, he equipped two golden horns at the tip of the Zaku and added some golden leaves to it, around the wrists and the shoulder to the hip.

On its shoulders were spikes, with the left shoulder having a shielded part to it to take more damage effectively.

It had a blue monoeye to signify it wasn't out to do evil, which was a tall order given the custom HEAT-HAWK axe he'd installed into it, bigger than a regular Zaku's, with golden leaves at the blunt part of the blade and on its handle. It was stored to the suit's forearm, with some rotating devices to make the axe's handle spin so that it'd face forward for Mal to grab it. Of course, the blunt end of the axe was there to ensure that even in a situation or ambush, the Zaku didn't axe into its own shoulder. It was the mightiest part of its armament, with extra armor to the arms and even some thrusters attached to the elbows and wrists to make swinging it harder.

On the back of the Zaku was a monstrous hammer, the "Plan B", which Mal affectionally called "The Warhammer" for simplicity's sake. It was sheathed on the Mobile Suit's back, with the actual head of the hammer serving as a sort of "coat" for the Zaku. It looked relatively simple by Mobile Suit standard, being a huge golden hammer with thrusters of its own, but it looked like it could handily cave in just about anything.

On the hip of it was its trusty machinegun, with a scope and foregrip for extra accuracy. The drummers feeding it ammo were placed around the Zaku's left hip and down the length of its leg. At the other end was Mal's invention - a sawed-off energy shotgun which could fire off energy buckshot at high precision and speed, with a point-blank blast guaranteed to punch a fellow Zaku apart. Shells for it were aligned on the Mobile Suit's chest overall.

Between it and its massive fists, with spikes at the end, it pretty clearly spelled out Mal's state of mind and intention for making it. While by no mean defenseless at range, its specialty was getting in the thick of things and taking bloody revenge.

Maul thought it to be gaudy as he walked out in his fully red Gundam, observing as Mal did some off-hand shadow boxing with the machine, each punch moving a pretty considerable deal of air.

Thanks for the trip, Kana! Good luck on your mission of bringing peace to the galaxy. Mal said, half-sarcastically, as he watched Neo-Zeon go.

He crossed them off the list - for now, as he turned to the others. If things were right, Little Guy was soon, meaning that there'd be a crack team of a shady merchant, him, a former Dark Lord and a dinosaur trying to break in and save Ez. He liked those odds - the fucking cowards aimed for children, after all.

I can use the Force to localize the child. Now is the time to get ready - and to bring in allies, if you've contacted any while you were busy making this gaudy Mobile Suit.

Talion recoils as Sauron transforms, unreactive to his damage against the Dark Lord. Any strike could be little more than deception; the ranger remains cognizant of that fact. Opening his eyes as the Binding Blade scrapes the ground, Talion is prepared for the massive wave of approaching fire. Turning his back on it, Talion rolls backward, using the fabric of his cape to block the sweltering heat that baked his armor slightly.

Pivoting, Talion rose facing the right way, withdrawing his sword and striking at Sauron from above!

Post Gangrel, Tremont, and any archers up on the walls. They'll spot the enemy forces approaching first, and man the ballistae and machine cannons to take down flying threats.

Samsara rubs her chin.

Put Lucina, Nicole, and Beruka on the front lines. Veronica toward the rear, pulling double duty with magical attacks and healing.

She takes Lyn's Emblem Ring between her index finger and thumb, studying it. Emblems are too valuable to risk falling into enemy hands. We should only use one or two.

Finally, send out Reyna to cause general havoc with...whatever she opts to do.

Reason being the man who's entered it, walking casually amongst the crater, holding a skull-tipped can and using it to walk around, despite looking to be in pretty splendid shape. He has greasy black hair, long sharp ears and a boy-ish, handsome visage that's a bit dimmed by the utterly blank look on his face.

THE GOD LOATHED BY THE HEAVENS!

You... how did you... Why now? I'm about to get to them! Adamas protests, but the scientist wave him off.

I've had a really fascinating talk recently. It convinced me that sometimes, there are things only you can handle.

THE GOD FEARED BY HELL!

So step back, Adamas. I'm taking N and Uzi. And if that superpowered human knows what's good for him, he'll back off too.

N and Uzi pick themselves up, confusedly looking at the scrawn guy facing them.

Who the fuck is that guy? He looks like he's gonna cut himself before we even get to him.

.... It looks like our own host didn't anticipate that though. How interesting.

My guess is that this isn't meant to be an all-finishing attack on their end, but rather an attack meant to weaken us a bit. "Why were they all here though? Is this the cult in its entirety?!"

He briefly felt his chest begin to disassemble to fire a beam of blue laser light back at the fallen man. Which while also incredibly danaging, produced a shell of matter around him keeping them illuminated in the dark.

"I guess I just didn't expect them to... dissolve. Do you guys react to foreign fluids that violently?"

Glint's chest reassembled, his rapier out as he faced the direction the man was downed in.

Fort Dawnguard - Prep time

I'm gonna go find some glue to tie Gangrel to his post, Samsara says, sighing. Beruka's back, which is good. I'll go get her and Lucina. She really want to fight in this.

Samsara then turns away, tapping her chin.

The youth... Itadori Yuji, erm, has he teleported back? Iguessweshouldcheck;

Maki shakes her head in response to Samsara's question.

"He hasn't, I already checked," she replies. "And he hasn't called or texted me back either. He better not have run off to fight Sukuna or Mahito alone..."

Nicole can't help rolling her eyes at Heroes!Julius.

"We've already got Gangrel, dude. The team asshole quota's looking pretty friggin' filled, if you ask me," she remarks. "Anyway, you're gonna want Robyn and Maki here up front, too. If that other Grima from the desert town shows up again, they'd give her a real nasty surprise."

Robyn, figuring Raex would likely contact her whenever she's needed for his hunt, twirls one of her Blades of Morrigu on its chain.

"Shouldn't we get Nicole's hunk 'o a thunder god friend Thor, too? Whatever these Loptyr shitehawks throw at us, I'm thinkin' he could blast 'em back into cards."

"The main issue with that is that we don't know where Thor is right now.", Jake says. "But if all else fails we do have Sothis and her children."

"Un...less she falls asleep. That happened a few days ago and it took a lot of prodding to get her to wake up. Seiros was going through it, she thought Sothis was dead for a moment."

"Either way, as long as Grima stays contained to her current form, the forces we have now should definitely be able to do it."

He nods.

"We should get everything ready. We don't know how long we have until they get here. If they choose to warp we won't have much time."

Standing outside the room, having heard them talking by coincidence not too long ago, is Morgan. He quickly hurries away once he hears everyone's getting ready.

There's no denying it. Today's the day...

Julius says nothing to Nicole, simply looking at her and smiling.

Kirrey sighs.

Grand Resurrection

Shadow blinks, watching as Lorenzo suddenly displays surprise at the card. He glances between his cards and Lorenzo's own, humming thoughtfully as he notices Doverap's eyes still glowing.

He clears his own throat, and sits up in his seat, un-fanning the cards in his hand, but pointedly setting them on the table instead of handing them right back to Lorenzo, keeping his hand over them.

"...now, listen here. Respectfully, I don't want to sound rude, but I'm most definitely not a fool. I know when something's up, and you've been jumpy this whole time, especially when I've been going over how my siblings and I operate. You seemed especially curious about my prison, my vault, and how we safeguard all of Reality. And now, you see something in these cards, which I know aren't just a mundane deck, that brings you enough pause to try to hastily pack up and head on your way. Pardon my curtness, but..."

He narrows his eyes.

   "...what's your game, Magic-Man?"

Grand Resurrection

"..."

Doverap turns its little head to Lorenzo. It then leans close and... its beak is moving as if it's talking to him. Whispering. Yet with Shadow's enhanced senses he'll likely be able to make out what Doverap is actually saying.

"Ask him."

After some hesitation, Lorenzo sits down, bringing his hands together as they rest on the table, and interlocking his fingers. This seems like it's getting serious.

Everything suddenly goes dark around them. Only the table area they're in is still visible, as if someone drew a circle around Shadow, Lorenzo and their table and then turned everything outside that circle dark.

In reality, however this happened, all it does is ensure that nobody outside of the visible area can hear what's being said.

"... I would like to propose... a hypothetical scenario to you.", Lorenzo says. "It's not going to be a pleasant one. But I ask that you answer me truthfully."

He takes a deep breath.

"Imagine the following. Someone, or rather, something threatens to destroy everything. And I do mean everything. It's too powerful to be destroyed. It's too powerful to be stopped. Even you and your siblings are powerless to defend the worlds and the afterlife you hold so dear. If this 'thing' is allowed to let loose, it is the end of all."

The man closes his eyes.

"But... you, and you alone, know of a way to prevent this 'thing' from ever getting far enough to start damaging anything. You alone can save everything. But in order to do so... you have to kill someone. A person who is completely innocent and undeserving of death. A person who does not have the mental capability to understand what you're trying to do even if you explain it. This person may not even be able to discern violent intent if you were to approach them with a weapon in hand. Killing that person is the only way to succeed, and once that person is gone, they are gone forever. No life after death, but complete cessation. There is no other way, no hidden possibility, no last-minute solution."

He opens his eyes again, looking serious.

"Would you be able to do it? Would you be able to kill that person in order to save everything?"

Grand Resurrection

Shadow's eyes flick to Doverap as he whispers to Lorenzo, and he cocks his head. He quirks his eyebrow at the circle of silence that falls around their table, and gives a thoughtful grunt.

"Well, now this is getting interesting."

He listens to Lorenzo's proposition, and rests his chin on his hand thoughtfully.

"...alright, shoot. I've probably heard worse, and lived through worse than that."

As he's listening, the intensity in his eyes conveys the rapt attention he's paying to Lorenzo. He takes on a grim expression upon the description of an undefeatable, inconceivable evil, which only sours further once he hears of the price that would have to be paid to seal it.

There's a long pause between Lorenzo's final question and Shadow's eventual response, and when the latter comes, his voice is little more than a quiet growl.

"...only, only, only, only if it was absolutely certain that it would work, and if there was truly, absolutely, undeniably no other way to stop this thing. Even then, even if nobody could think of something else, I'd never stop thinking. As unusual as it sounds coming from someone of my countenance, the world doesn't run in Black-and-White. When it seems like there's only one solution to a problem and one way it'll end if you don't take it, there's always something you just haven't hit upon yet. That is my role. My calling. My raison d'etre. There have been cases in the past where people posed similar questions to me, and there were even cases where I had to act in very similar situations. Let me just say...I haven't met an innocent soul that I've had to permanently snuff out just yet. There's always another way, and even when there isn't, you stare Fate in the face, you spit in their eye, and, by Unity, you make one."

He punctuates his last statement by dropping his hand onto the table with an intense gleam in his eyes, and then settles back into his seat, his gaze softening.

"But, well, failing all that...I've had to make some hard choices in the past. I'm no stranger to this. Nothing exactly that dire, but too many that hewed rather similar to this. No permanent cessation of existence, thank the Gods, but I've had allies who've had to give their lives to provide a way to overcome a seemingly-insurmountable force. Sometimes I even had to give them the final push, so to speak. So, again, if there truly was no other way, if the fate of the entire omniverse somehow relied on whether this one person lived or died, if not even every God, mortal, or other being in all of existence could collectively think of a solution that didn't involve the loss of an innocent life, then...when push comes to shove..."

He pauses, and then gives a solemn nod, a bitter conviction in his eyes.

"It'd be merciful, with a thought. Just one breath and the blink of an eye, and then silence. Wouldn't even need to raise a finger against them. Couldn't even raise a finger against them."

Grand Resurrection

Doverap nods once. Does it understand everything Shadow is saying? Does it approve of it?

"I can tell you're not just saying that. You've thought your response through.", he says. There's a hint of relief in his voice. He doesn't sound as nervous anymore. How odd. Was this some kind of weird test perhaps? Maybe it's something else?

The darkness surrounding them vanishes instantly. The sounds of the people within the Grand Resurrection can be heard once more.

"I'm glad we had this talk, Shadow. It feels as if a weight has been lifted from me."

He holds out his hand again.

"But I do genuinely have to go now, that is no mere excuse. Please, may I have my cards back?"

"...oh, good, I think I lost them. Took long enough."

Someone had been hightailing it through the treeline, the wind speeding his step as he leaps through trees and over fallen logs- though he slowly comes to a stop when he notices a chill in the air.

"How strange..."

Is all they mutter as they see the various corpses, clearly knights and other medieval folk but also clearly bearing bullet holes right through the head. A sniper..?

...or someone, at least. He finally happens across the person resting under the trees. Well, that'd be why it's cold- either this person is projecting an aura of it or they're taking in a ton of heat from the surrounding area- both are equally plausible, he's seen and used much stranger magic. However... he can't be sure this is magic... Once again, he's seen stranger. And his ability to sense magic isn't... great, but he closes his eyes and tries anyway.

Onyxis - Somu

Somu nods, almost solemnly. He seems to be in thought for a moment, looking down at his feet.

"...survival is all anyone wants to do, past a certain point. I would know this well- I fought in my world's second war against Heaven and... one of the angels sent me here- At least, I'm pretty sure that's what occurred. I have heard this place has a habit of calling people randomly from various worlds..."

He does realize he's getting off track, and clears his throat, shifting his stance awkwardly.

"-but that isn't the point. The point is that you are being pursued by one that seeks to end you- you, the last of your species. And yet, it sounds as if you want nothing to do with it. You simply want to live, but the actions of those before you push you onto a path that seems to only have one end."

Somu looks down at his left arm and hand, bound heavily in bandages. He remains looking at it as he speaks.

"...I suppose it would be a wildly different concept, but I do know how that feels. And, if this templar is as blind to reason as he is blinded by his faith..."

"Well, that leaves you with two options, doesn't it? Lie down and accept the fate they have laid out for you, or..."

Somu trails off, letting Filia finish the sentence or simply move on if she so wishes.

Kurumi’s reconnaissance revealed a few things.

First of all, if her eyes were keen enough in this bat form, was the noticeable lack of firearms: just like the four out on patrol, not one of the men here bore a ranged weapon. Rather, they seemed to all rely instead on martial prowess, which they were now hard at work honing. A sickening crunch lifted to Kurumi’s aerial position. Somewhere below lay a trainee with his arm snapped a way no arm ought to, with another standing above him. But he made no noise. The soldier was stonefaced save for beads of sweat running down his temples as he slowly got to his feet and set his own arm back into place, before turning and orderly walking off the dirt square. He made his way down the rows of sparring men and to a tent with a scarlet cross printed onto its fold, disappearing within.

Kurumi spied something else of note. A man in black officer’s attire strolled on his own through the training field, with every last soldier—Green or Brown—ceasing whatever they were doing and saluting to him as he passed. Interestingly they seemed to stare to the ground when they saluted, as though fearful to look upon his feet without permission, and the wrath it would incur. He hopped into the back of a Jeep which brought him across the field, to his own personal command tent at its edge, not particularly far from Sisyphus’ location. He entered through the front, facing towards the camp, but if one were to approach from the rear facing the forest they’d find only one shadow cast against the canvas within.

With great power…you know the rest.

They— No, she, can sense someone trying to read them. The icy aura immediately goes away and she snaps awake.

She stare daggers into him. Her eyes jitter rapidly at the man while aiming her hand at him, middle finger morphed into a gun's barrel and index curled to mimic a sight. Said finger is glowing intensely. On closer inspection, she seems rather voluptuous despite the suffocating clothing making her look akin to a grenedier of an imperial guard.

She seemed hesitant on opening fire when seeing the white hair.

"Man or magic? You're not one of them, right?—"
