Mt. Miniorthum

Unfortunately is the right word here. Scarlet Meteor Valstrax' eyes narrow. Stepping forward and shouting at it was something it decided was a threat and its wings retracted into a battle-ready stance. It might have used up some energy from fighting that Furious Rajang but it wasn't out of fight yet.

So it started to charge at Othar, fortunately not by jet propelling itself but this is still a very large quadruped running at him like a big panther.

Tropique

"See you in a bit." Nitori says, though she's not too sure he'll manage to do what he plans to. She has her mech hop in the water and switches the hydrojets on. Moving as if flying she charges at the Basculegion to slash at it with the mech's dragon element charged metal claws.

Sand Plain

"He said he'll be um, right back." Sebastien said. He's never been too good at these kind of encounters.

He did find their gear quite interesting, while he's hunted some monsters he hasn't made anything more than his Anjanath dual blades (since upgraded). He still has his outfit from back when he was with the Vanguard but maybe he should update his gear at some point soon.

Seadra lets out some panicked bubbles before getting blasted by the ghostly energy spheres, getting blasted out of the water.

And as for the larger sphere, that one manages to hit the now also panicking Horsea, sending it flying right after its pal.

Both Horsea and Seadra land near the two trainers, fainted.

"AAH! Um, okay, maybe we should get out of here!", Cara says as she quickly recalls them both.

"Are you joking? Did you see that Pokemon? It looks really strong! I can use it to train for the tournament!"

"Seriously!?"

"Seriously!", Umezou grins before sending out Tauros.

"Lure it out here with an Earthquake!"

Tauros lets out a bellow of its own before stomping on the ground, making it quake. The tremors will travel underwater due to its proximity to the beach, and may indeed make Basculegion resurface. It may do the same for Nitori too, as well as anyone else potentially remaining underwater, but at least the Earthquake isn't strong enough underwater to outright damage them.

Cara notices the wounded Malzeno and starts to look more anxious. This feels less like it's just a wild Pokemon battle and more like that thing is going on a rampage and seriously hurting people.

In the year 202X, all is devastation... Soon, any last shred of hope had by the saintliest optimist shall die and decay.

"He was here a moment ago," Said the woman, as she reached for the bartop. She closed her eyes and murmured something before opening them once more. "And a woman."

"I don’t like to wait. Where, did he go?" The heavy man questioned Sebastien, eyes squinting as he did.

Rats!

The sword of the Skaven cleaved Hairr's tail, leaving her writhing into pain... And, at the same time, the hit made her release a cloud of itchy hairs, that could irritate the attacker.

Mukade, seeing the spear rat ramming towards her, simply ducks to avoid being pierced, and with her arms, attempts to throw her attacker away.

As for Gregoria, she instinctively shrinks down to the size of an actual cockroach, managing to dodge both the shield bash and the stone, and she fies away from Skaven's reach.

Then, she calls with supersonic signals a huge swarm of cockroaches, that floods the battlefield. There are two groups of them: one of them climbs on Catalina, searching the stone to get rid of it... By eating it. And the other group (the rest of bugs) is sent to fight against the lesser rodents by biting them.

Gregoria, there wasn't another option other than flood the field with your friends?

Pokémon

Vs. Avalugg

Mega-Paco punches the boulders thrown at him, and then he leaps towards the living iceberg, attempting to thunder-punch it on its head.

Vs. Basculegion

Bely deflects with her tail the ghostly energy balls, and then she shoots a flurry of shining scales at the spectral fish.

Her attack is interrumpted by the earthquake waves, making her lower her guard.

Pica-Verse

"Trios of two men and one woman"? You are being... Too specific.

"Yeah! Do you come from the TV station- Ah... Ah... Ahhhh.... ACHOO! Who brought this dog here!?"

Calm down, Mr. Meandro!

"I'm allergic to dogs! And my name is Leandro!"

Carolina interrupts the bickering by drawing the teachers' attention to the "Pica-Pica" book.

Hear me. We came from other dimensions searching for our friends, here. But their kidnapper is a powerful interdimensional being that is seeking for every iteration of my friends, and you are one of those. And those children too.

The teachers look at the book with interest.

They are very handsome guys, yeah.

But I don't believe you a thing. What are those freaks doing here, dressed as tale characters?

They are another iteration of my friends, from the Little Red Riding Hood.

The classic tale? Now you have a slip knot!

The Riding Hood steps forward.

Don't believe us if you want. We just ask you for help.

In this moment, the bell rings, signaling the end of recess time. Ms. Goldilocks sighs.

OK. We'll give you the benefit of doubt. But please, play along us for the children.

Sebastien stood his ground, not breaking eye contact.

"Well you'll just have to wait then." Sebastien said. He wasn't quite sure it'd be a good idea to tell them to go upstairs. For one that might be where the guy lives and just letting people waltz in would be rude. "He'll be right. Back."

Plus he doesn't like this guy's vibes.

Mt. Miniorthum

As the behemoth charged, Othar Tryggvassen reached for his weapon and...
Oh...
Erm...
Okay then...
Othar did not have any proper weapons on his person. How strange. This may be a problem, he thought.

Tarvek looked on in the distance, whispering to himself. "What... is he doing?!"
He took a deep breath. Okay, he thought, let's think of something. Just from eyeballing it, the Valstrax appeared to be 13 meters tall.OOC  Yet despite it's size, it was incredibly fast, as Tarvek saw. He also saw that can fire energy-based projectiles from it's appendages, and that it can charge itself up with some kind of energy.
Okay, so it was strong. But was it smart? Well, it appeared to dislike Othar, which must mean it has some degree of intelligence.

Speaking of, Othar realized that he may not have proper weapons, but he still had things he could use as weapons. He had a rope on him. Okay, good, he thought.
But the beast was still charging directly at his person. Less good. He looked to his side. Okay, there was a way he could run. Maybe he just waits for the thing to get close to him, and then dodge out of the way before it could see him move?

Scarlet Meteor Valstrax keeps charging at Othar until it gets very close and leaps up. It then shifts its left wing's posture to try and slam its pointed tip down on Othar to pulverize him, stopping itself in its tracks in the process.

"Hmm, I'm curious what he's planning." Flandre hums as she watches.

Othar dodges out of the way, narrowly escaping the attempt on his life. Before the dragon could look at him, he ran his way over to it's right side, near it's wing and in it's blind spot.

Tarvek, meanwhile, shuffled through his jacket for anything of use. Feh, just some tools and machine bits. Maybe they'd be useful if he were dealing with a giant clank rather than something made of flesh and blood.
Okay, in fairness, the fields of mechanical and biological engineering aren't entirely seperate, he thought. Constructs required a jolt of energy just as much as clanks did...
"Energy!" He gasped.
The Valstrax clearly ran on some kind of energy to keep itself going. That's what those projectiles were. And whatever that energy was, the Valstrax looked like it was running out. It was somewhat tired from it's fight with the Rajang, he could tell, and it appeared to be pushing itself further to charge at Othar like it did.

Sans Underplains

The apparent leader glanced from Sebastien to the woman and then back to Sebastien.

"Fine. I’ll wait." The man backed off with a huff, taking a seat at a table and maintaining eye contact with Sebastien for the next minute until at last the sounds of footsteps descending the stairs caused his attention to snap to the staircase.

There, an old man stood in front of Luin, both of them looking down at the newcomers. Luin seemed more confused than anything, as if she didn’t recognize the man, but the elderly fellow certainly did.

"What is this meaning of this?" He demanded in a cautious tone, descending while Luin remained in place with her hand hovering over the axe on her belt.

"You know what it is. Davik has escaped paying his debts for far too long." The large man stood tall over the skinny old man as the two who were with him crowded around who was presumably "Old Man Lenoi". Even still, the man did not falter and kept eye contact with the would-be debt shark.

"And he will continue to. The Poachers have no place in this town. I think you and your cronies should go." Upon mention of the Poachers, Luin’s face wrinkled into a scowl and she descended the steps slowly.

"I’ll only say this once: tell me where that bastard son of yours is…or I’ll be forced to ask less politely."

"We don't answer to fear. Much less to two-bit crooks like you."

"Do you really wanna do this, Lenoi?" The Poacher snarled, reaching for the ax upon his back.

"I may be old, but I’ll still kick your ass, Garot."

"Sure…but what about them?" The large man motioned his head to his two goons. He did not blink, and nor did Lenoi.

"In case you haven’t noticed, I have friends here too."

Now Luin had reached the bottom of the steps and her tomahawk had been drawn, resting by her side as she stood by Sebastien. Garot grunted as he broke eye contact to glance at the two, before staring back at Lenoi. "I'll be back." The man snarled, turning and storming out of the establishment with both henchmen following. Once they were gone, Lenoi breathed a sigh of quiet relief and turned to his company.

"Coast is clear!" He hollered, and now it was Davik that came down the stairs. The young man muttered some obscenity in a foreign language as he glanced towards the door and shook his head. Whatever it was he said, Luin’s frown broke just long enough for a giggle to escape. The old man now turned to Sebastien and offered the man a handshake. "You’re Sebastien? I’ve heard quite a bit about you."

Hub Centralis

"Awesome. It's a bit of a hike, but I'll help if you can't handle it."

...

Some time later.

Either Angel was being nice, or her idea of a "bit of a hike" is pretty tame, because it only takes about 45 minutes to get to where she was going.

Along the way, Angel does explain some choice things: She's meeting her friend in a public park, that friend is named A and A prefers not to be referred to with pronouns, and also, A can see the future and probably knows everything about you already, you can totally introduce yourself if you want but A definitely already knows.

When the trip is over, they're where the ground is green and it's not quite so mish-mashy as the rest of Hub Centralis tends to be.

Angel sits across from A, finding a place that is not indoors so much as it has a roof and some uncomfortable benches.

...This park looks poorly funded.

A seems to regard Madeline. Should she be observant, Madeline may notice a commonality between Angel and A; the shape of A's earring is the same as the emerald crystal in Angel's chest.

"I foresaw it, and I can still hardly believe it," says A, "You really brought a guest?"

A looks at Madeline, and then back at Angel.

"I got distracted. Is there a problem?"

A sighs.

"I invited you to discuss something privately. An avatar like her will disrupt our secrecy. You know this."

Angel crosses her arms.

"Ahuh... and I was supposed to 'know this'... how?"

A closes both eyes, and is silent, for a moment, before opening both eyes.

"I concede. That is my fault for not telling you."

Rats rats we are the Rats

OK alright the lads are "safe" in a relative sense, for now. Melia is equal parts grateful and guilty to see that anyone that's left over to save has either made it over the wall or, otherwise, been so overrun by rats there's no chance they're anything but a minced corpse at this point.

Melia flies up for a higher vantage point, and also to avoid friendly fire from Azura, but finds the projectile whizzing past her head a little too close for comfort. Her senses are well-honed, but not superhuman, so she has no idea where these shots are coming from among the rat-stampede.

Guards are dying left and right, shots are being fired that she's only just about barely managing to dodge, and the numbers of the skaven seem so totally endless it almost seems pointless to resist.

A shot strikes her in the arm. It strikes her half-way, but she knows from Azura's reaction that it is highly poisonous.

Quickly, Melia begins to feel the effects, and grows sluggish, staving off the effects by summoning three Aqua elementals that keep her stable, but not healthy.

Pointless.

It seems... pointless.

So many times, she's been there in the thick of things, fighting for her life and trying to save as many people as she can but unable.

And why?

Because she can't heal. She can't cure poison or patch over wounds like Nia can- not without sacrifice and certainly not in the same way she can.

It was that way with the victims at the Mychars hotel.

It was that way with the victims of the Warp Storm.

And it's the same way now. People are dying around her, and the only person she can help is herself.

It looks pointless.

...But it doesn't...

Feel. Pointless. Not to her.

The word "pointless" does not enter Melia's mind for a second.

Far from seeing it as pointless, in fact, she sees a point in every movement she makes, in every life she gives another minute, another second, to live.

There is nothing pointless about it, in fact. The circumstances are unfair but since when has her life been fair? to her?

Growing up an outcast with a mask, watching her mother and her father and her brother and her people die for reasons she rarely could have done anything but dream of stopping, and then at the end of it all her happy ending was cut short by her universe on the verge of collapse.

And across all that time and all that suffering, did Melia ever give up?

Of course not.

She struggled on and led her people when she was barely an adult, and when the universe itself decided to descend cosmic armageddon upon her, what did she do?

Melia Antiqua looked the universe in the eye and told it to fuck off with that bullshit because she is Melia Antiqua, and nobody, not even God, can tell her what to do!

So, she won't be giving up.

Not now, not ever.

Instead, she asks herself a question. The same question her best friend asked himself a very, very long time ago.

"Can I save them?"

...

And she is met with silence.

But she doesn't need Alvis to tell her the answer.

The Sword of Origin manifests in her hands, a water-blue symbol appearing in place of the Ouroboros symbol in its center.

Melia holds up the weapon, and shouts. The name just comes to her, which is fair, because she just made it up on the spot.

"Monado... AQUA!"

Immediately, a deluge of ether blossoms from the sword in concentric spheres, covering Melia's surroundings in a haze of watery blue. A few stray shots her direction are repelled by the expanding wave, but this is no attack.

Herself, her allies- Azura, the guards, maybe even others elsewhere across the town- will feel the effects in practically an instant. Poison, debuffs, wounds of any kind- the former two will vanish in an instant, the latter will patch over like magic in a few seconds or less.

She isn't Nia, so there is a limit. Melia cannot return the dead, and she cannot return limbs that have been severed- but everything else just... goes.

Monado Art Unlocked - Aqua

When the art finishes, the sword vanishes from Melia's hands. Her full possible loadout of 11 elementals has been completely filled by summoned aqua, supplying every one of her allies with constant, highly potent regeneration.

Although, their strength and defense will no longer be boosted.

...

As spectacular as that showing was, Melia is under no illusion that it will turn the tides.

Melia readies herself to salvage as many lives as she can, the waves of skaven no longer impeded by the full brunt of Azura's Wrath.

In many places, it most certainly won't be enough.

But she won't know unless she tries.

Mt Minior

Scarlet Meteor Valstrax snarled as it whipped its body around to try and catch Othar with its beak. If it did it would then yeet him to the ground before stopping to channel air through its chest vent.

Now that's Plain Sandy

When the situation was getting tense, Sebastien made sure to visibly reach for his Dual Blades to back up Luin and Lenoi's intimidation. Thankfully it didn't come to blows.

"Yes, good things hopefully." Sebastien greeted. He shook the dude's hand. "And I've certainly heard of those Poachers before. Sorry you have to deal with them."

Though the Valstrax was unable to get Othar with it's beak, it was able to (accidentally) hit him with it's tail. The hit sent Othar flying towards a fallen tree, which his back hit with such force that it'd break anybody else's spine. But Othar wasn't anybody else, so he picked himself back up... only to see the dragon moving it's beak towards him.

But from behind, the Valstrax heard something else.

When your head is buzzing with ideas, it can cloud your reasoning skills. Any spark knew that first-hand. Tarvek was no exception. His ingenious idea to get the Valstrax too tired to keep fighting had led to the second, less-than-genius idea to run straight up to the beast and yell at it to grab it's attention.
"HEY, YOU! C'MERE!"
The distinct voice tone of the madness place was a foreign sound to the Valstrax, but it did sound like some kind of aggression, at least to it's ears.

Hyrule Castle Town

Insects

Surrounded and distracted by itchy hairs, the Clanrat began to swing wildly at Hairr, hoping to strike her down as it simultaneously clawed at its own fur in hopes of removing the itch.

Mukade’s foe is thrown to the side, landing on its back. It writhed to its feet and looked about ready to go again, before its eyes rolled back in its head and the rat dropped forwards, slain.

Gregoria’s swarm resulted in the shrieking deaths of the two rats attacking her, both of them howling and ripping at their skin as the bugs targeted each vulnerability on their body, digging into their eyes and their nose and ripping their flesh apart bit by bit until nothing remained but feed for flies and maggots.

Raex & Murasa

The Clanrats find themselves sufficed caught by surprise as a result of Murasa’s maneuver. The geyser’s strength propels one up into the air with her, where it is left stunned and open for a sweeeeet aerial combo. The other skitters backwards with snarls coming from its lips at the soaking of its fur. Still, that doesn’t stop it from grabbing a blade from one of its fallen brethren and throwing it at the airborne girl.

The Skaven in Raex’s hand is helpless to resist and the pathetic creature is slain instantly. Now, no rats remained in sight but, in the absence of their chittering, another sound was more clearly heard: whispering and shushing, human in tone rather than Skaven. Should the towering knight investigate its source in an alley, he’d find a boy and his younger sister hiding behind a toppled wagon, two sets of almond eyes staring out from amidst terrified faces caked in blood and dirt.

Azura & Melia & Defensive Line

As Azura’s scarlet wall is formed between the ever-charging horde of rats and the defensive line, guards take the opportunity to check on their injured. Some of the wounded try to crawl away from the scene, leaving bloody trails while others are simply still and accepting of their wounds. The battlefield beyond the wall is a canvas of crimson and cobblestone.

Some bullets from the Ratling Gun yet punch through the wall, leaving behind palm-sized holes and exploding on the ground beyond but none further injuring any of the soldiers. The bloody bulwark is protecting them for now, but how much longer could it stand? Even now a few guards are forced back into action, drawing their wholly red-coated blades and rending the small numbers of rats that make it over the wall into two pieces.

Continuing seems bleak—many of the injured, with oozing wounds punched in them by the Warpstone-ammo, have consigned themselves to their fates and wait for the icy grip of death to finally take them. Those that yet live without fatal injuries have returned their attention to the growing amount of enemies making it over the wall. Some of them are swarmed, no longer visible beneath the great numbers of vermin piling on top of them even in spite of all their efforts to slay as many of them as possible. Just as failure seems inevitable, Melia’s saving grace sweeps across the battlefield.

Guards explode from beneath stacks of rats, swinging their blades in a crazed yet focused frenzy. Soldiers who had accepted their deaths are granted another chance and leap to their feet, charging ahead to hold the line once again. Rats stop climbing over the wall of blood and now simply break through it, but the line between chaos and safety in the township is more well-defined than its been yet.

"Raugh!!! Fire! Fire more-harder! Fire at her, fire at the other her, fire at all of them! Kill them kill them killtheeeeeem!!"

"We can’t push the gun any further! It’ll—"

BOOM!

With a mighty bang, the Ratling Gun explodes into a wave of green energy that sends incinerated, furry corpses flying sky high.

The reloading snipers still exist, but with Azura’s load considerably lightened they are less safe than they ever have been.

____

Soulstealer Xeno'Jiiva

The very flesh of the nearby rats melts away, leaving only charcoal bones in their place. Soulstealer’s following fireballs eradicate even more Skaven. It seems, at least for a moment, that the aerial superiority of the Soulstealer Xeno'Jiiva will go unchallenged.

And then five Skaven show up in fucking airplanes, all of them firing at the beast with onboard Ratling Guns.

____

Mount Gustaf Peak

"ARRRRRE YOUUUUUU KIIIIIIIIIIIIDDING MEEEEEEEEE!!"    The Grey Seer howled, seething with anger as he watched the scene unfolding below. His rats, slaughtered! The Ratling Gun gone—exploded due to incompetence! The guards had returned to form and were holding off the horde, and that damn dragon killed more and more Skaven with each passing second.    "That’s it. That is IT! I’m going down there, and I’m gonna kill-murder EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!"

   "No."

"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN NO"

"Let them think they have a chance."    Malagor grinned as he looked out over the battle.    "Let them hope some of them may yet live to see tomorrow. My Beastman are coming, and when they arrive…"    A vile grin defaced the Dark Omen’s placid lips, his eyes twinkling with visions of pillaging and defilement. Their churches would fall, their tributes to false gods would be shattered and he wanted to watch the accrued hope vanish from their eyes as his beastmen dragged them from the houses they hid in and onto the streets, forcing them to watch as they slit the throats of their sons and daughters and set fire to their homes.

"My shadow will fall over their pathetic civilization. A thousand years of rule perpetuated by weak kings and lesser tyrants will end in one fell swoop."    The towering lord snarled, walking to the edge of the cliff. His wings spread and cast a shadow over the castle with the setting sun behind him, yelling a declaration to the world below.

"The Dark Omen is coming to Hyrule!"

"Of course. A Lunagaron? Now there’s a difficult monster to tame. You’ve done well already, just starting out. And nevermind those Poachers. I remember the old days, when they disappeared the first time. I’m sure they’ll do the same just as soon this time around, if not sooner."

"I regret not chopping off their heads." Luin slid the ax back into her armor’s waist and glanced out the shutters, as if checking that they had gone.

"You’ve changed, Luin, if you would so easily resort to taking a life. In fact, I recall a girl who stood in your place nearly two years ago, soon to depart for her journey. She swore she’d never kill a man, if I recall."

"That girl’s gone." The woman moved away from the windows. "She disappeared when my monsters did."

"Anyways," Davik began, wanting to change the topic. "There’s been a bit of a…complication."

"We’re out of Kinship stones." Explained Lenoi. This stole Luin’s attention, the woman leaning against a table as she tilted her head quizzically.

"Out of Kinship stones? How does that happen?"

"The village stockpile ran out." The old man answered, going behind the bar to pour a cup. "There’s reportedly been some sort of monster who’s made the Kinship Cave its territory, and since we haven’t needed any more…"

"Nobody’s gone to deal with that little issue of ours." The younger man took over. "So if you wanna get a Kinship Stone, you’re gonna need to go through one last test."

Luin sighed. "Great. Well…I’m sure it’s nothing we can’t handle." She smiled at Sebastien.

"Though, if you do decide it’s worth it," Lenoi took a sip from his drink. "I wouldn’t mind coming with you, to scrape a few pieces off the ol’ Kinship Ore. Bring ‘em back to the village, you know, save ‘em for a rainy day."

"I as well." Spoke the man’s son.

Arad twists and bends his body in ways it hasn’t twisted or bended since Jennifer dragged him to that yoga class a year ago, avoiding the brunt of the fireballs but still ending up with a good few burn marks on the Warframe’s surface. All this flexing and dodging left him unable to even perceive the Metroid’s incoming pin until he was already trapped beneath it. The beast’s claws sank deep into Umbra’s chest and torso, Arad gasping in pain from the feeling of it even though his own physical body was unharmed. The man forced his blade to come between him and the Metroid, before a blindingly bright flash emanating from it, one that Arad hoped would stun the enemy for long enough to give him a window to slip out from under the alien.

Elsewhere, Lorelai was confronted with a harsh choice. The young woman stood at a crossroads but neither way was the better option and standing here to decide was suicide. She tried to explore her feelings for a logical conclusion on her best path ahead, but she failed to even understand those feelings. The more she thought about them the less sense they made, so she forced those attempts at translating her feelings to logic from her mind and let them speak for themselves.

Without thinking, the acolyte shoved the gloved hand away and she took the lost hilt from the landing platform’s floor. Lorelai stood as the crimson light ignited from the weapon in her hands, glancing towards Wrustoiz and Ranus, the latter held at bay under the threat of a fatal puncture through the chest. Again she disavowed any logical reasoning as her legs guided her to the former’s side.

Three layers of emotion cried out within her—the uppermost tried in vain to remind her that because she was doing this in pursuit of information she could use to help the Sith, it wasn’t ‘’technically betrayal, but the second layer spoke in hushes far louder than any yell, whispering into her mind like the crashing of the restless sea’s waves that this was'' betrayal and there was no other way around it, no other name for it.

Beneath that layer was the third and quietest of them all. Perhaps it was a betrayal, perhaps what she could offer the empire in exchange wouldn’t be worth it, but maybe, just maybe…This was what she wanted. Maybe this was good for her.

A hand surfaces from the bottom of the riverbed, as did four more piranhas. These ones hosted glowing topaz eyes, and rather than attack the fish outright, lined up in a zig-zag pattern. From the tip of the hand’s index finger came a bolt of lightning, one that followed the trail of piranhas—traveling from one fish-shaped conduit to the other and gaining charge before finally shooting at its final destination: the Afflicted Pokemon.

"Hellfire does melt ice beams!" The ninja declared as he leapt out of the path of one such chunk of ice. He only just barely managed to dodge another, and a third was set for a head-on collision with him. But rather than accept his fate, he shot his famed Spear towards it. Hanzo would then spin in place to preserve the ice’s momentum as well as give it a little bit extra, before dislodging the Spear and letting it shoot back at the Avalugg’s face.

Meetup with A

Madeline has no problems keeping up. In fact, she occasionally wavedashes ahead, wallbounces off some protrusion or climbs on top of people's balconies, should Angel continue with her normal foot pace.

Once they arrive at A, Madeline gets visibly intimidated by the new figure's appearance. The unusual high-tech outfit, the serious tone, and of course, the sword, is really unnerving.

Madeline holds out her hands in front of herself. "I-I'm sorry! If you two want to have a private conversation, I can leave..."

Scarlet Meteor Valstrax looked ready to take a bite out of crime Othar but then some other annoying hominid started making noise. It turned around, potentially tail slapping Othar again in the process, before repositioning its wings forward. It then tried to swat Tarvek like a fly using its left wing.

Sady Plans

Sebastien gave Luin a sympathetic look but the topic soon changed.

"I'd be willing to help with that, yeah." Sebastien nodded. "Any info on what kind of monster it might be?"

Centralis

The unnamed man is standing atop a tower, deep in thought. His name...

"Haru... Sounds familiar enough. As does a few other things though..."

He looks out at the horizon. It looks like a typical city... Well, not the City he's used to. This one is much better. Flesh-sinew wings extend from his back. He figures he should at least see what places are like around here...

Somewhat later.

He sees what looks like a group of people in a park, but... he doesn't disturb them. That would be rude. He does, however, land a good distance from them. Flying is tiring, as he found out.

"Strangely enough," The old man shrugged. "We haven’t got a clue. We’ve seen the prey it leaves behind, but we haven’t seen the beast itself. No traces, no tracks, no fangs, nothing."

"It’s like a ghost." Spoke his son.

Sandy Plains

"That does sound rather suspicious." Sebastien said, his training kicking in. It might be something more paranormal, like he's used to. "What exactly is the state its prey is left in? That might help narrow it down."

He has some sneaking suspicions but best to be sure.

"Gutted," Davik answered, glancing to his father.

"Like something ripped ‘em wide open."

"How big do you think it is?"

"Well, the prey we find is usually smaller monsters. Apceros, Rhenoplos, Delex…but then, it’s possible that it drags the bigger ones back into its den. We’ve never seen any sort of blood trail, though."

Sebastien thought about it but well, there were a lot of possibilities still. Could be a ghoul or could even be something parasitic, would explain the lack of any other evidence. At least it eliminates any life draining things.

"Well it's something. Whatever it is I have a feeling it's not going to be a pushover." Sebastien said. "I'd like to restock before we head out."

Lenoi nodded and finished his cup. "Me and Davik’ll head to the stables. Luin, you’ll show Sebastien the way there when he’s done?"

"You bet." The woman pushed herself from the table, ready to follow Sebastien as the two men exited the building.

____

Some Time Later

When the duo arrived at the stables with their monsters in tow, father and son had already saddled and mounted their tames as well as fashioned some thick leather armor (not like the mh version) onto themselves. The elder sat upon a Morellatops, while Davik rode a particularly large Kulu Ya-Ku with a graying plumage and scars lining its beak. This one, Luin approached with a smile and petted the head of before looking towards the man.

"Mind if I hitch a ride?" She asked, glancing back at the unsaddled Rime and then back to Davik.

"Only if the Baron doesn’t mind." He joked, reaching out and helping the woman up onto the Bird Wyvern.

"We got everything?" Lenoi asked, looking over the group amassed.

RAT RAT YOU KNOW THE DRILL

Azura is thankful to see relief come their way. Melia's abilities were truly extraordinary: Sure, Azura could lock down the area, but she couldn't inspire the guards as well as Melia. Not without some heavy amount of dubious mind control, at least. And even then... She was glad to have such backup. Or else, the victory would've come at a much nastier cost.

But perhaps it was too early to speak of victory.

For the rat masses down below, Azura decides to display a potent feat of magic. Reaching out to the very matter of the fallen walls of blood, trod upon by the invading masses, Azura uses the fact that it's her own magic to change its very nature, at a pace she couldn't do if it weren't something she'd tampered with beforehand. She changes the very blood, making it from a solid wall of blood...

... Into a much less solid, but still deadly, wall of fire. Because she's still reeling from the poison, and because she's gonna be using delicate magic for what comes next, she can't really control the fire, besides insuring it won't hurt guards. It'll at least be a nasty surprise for a bunch of the Skaven hordes. And will form a sort of defense on its own.

MATTER MAGIC

As for the snipers, Azura's elven eyes see far, and she stretch her hands to the side, grabbing her own flamethrowers. Upon contact, she reshape the very magic that make them up, transforming the flamethrowers into long, sword-shaped objects, with a very long blade and a small handle for her to grab on. It vaguely look like a scimitar, albeit a neglected one.

She twirls the blades then, for her latest trick, use Space Magic to give the blades a very deceptive range, meaning that if she swings them, something in the far distance will be cut as if the blade had done so. A nasty trick, dishonorable even, but Azura hardly pity the Skaven.

Instead, she swings her swords carefully, meaning to cut them down from afar with several skillful slices done at... the air in front of her.

Huh;

Bad Rats

Murasa's sweet aerial combo involves her spiking the rat who got flung into the air down with her anchor, sending him down to intercept the flung blade from his compatriot and hopefully also land on said compatriot. She follows that up with landing down and, if the latter rat is still alive, goes to smack him. Otherwise she goes to look for either more targets or people who need help.

Soulstealer snarls at the sudden pain, still reeling from the spell. Annoyed, he touches down and starts draining the very earth's bioenergy both to heal and to prepare something. Gathering energy into his mouth he focuses it into a beam which he begins sweeping across the skies to cleave the annoying flying vermin into pieces.

"It is too late now. Our privacy is already compromised... so you may as well sit."

A speaks rather... bluntly, but A's voice is smooth and unintimidating. It makes you want to listen, and there's nothing supernatural about it- A is just... like that.

"So, if we can't talk about... whatever thing you had in mind, what else do you have for us?"

A responds very quickly, not pondering for nearly as long on this subject as with before.

"Do you play an instrument, Madeline? I speak to the both of you."

Rat

Melia raises her staff "World Ender" towards the sky, the symbol of the High Entian Royal Family appearing as a burning extension of the weapon's end as she slams the bottom of her staff against the ground, sending a huge expanding deluge of ether energy across the battlefield.

Rats struck by it will be briefly stunned, and will have their defenses reduced substantially in every category.

This attack goes in tandem with Azura's literal firewall, hopefully spiking up the casualties by some substantial amount- although, the accidental nature of their team-attack might make it a little less effective.

Melia finds herself leaning into the support offered by her staff as it rests against the ground. Her mind slips a little.

She's already tired, approaching- but not near to- exhaustion.

It's something about the sword.

When she first used the Sword of Origin, it responded to the threat of Chaos like an instinct, entering her heart at her darkest hour to beat back the darkness.

Now, it's more like a weight. Not the numb, body-shocking feeling of the sword rejecting her, but still, she's feeling something.

The Sword of Origin is a weapon that opposes reality itself. No matter what shape reality bends to, any wish will shatter on its edge- but what if there was no wish to shatter?

For all their tricks, these Skaven are flesh and blood, not monsters from beyond the veil.

The sword has nothing to respond to.

...But even then, that's just a symptom, not the cause. The sword is made from her heart, it should not be conditionally available based on any rule at all.

Unless, of course...

Something was suppressing it.

On that realization, Melia remembers something.

Shulk's description of wielding the Monado whilst under the effects of the Apocrypha generator. To him, it was like fighting against his own mind, like trying to only flex a muscle you're not used to using by itself. The Monado was still a powerful weapon, but using it drained him, and the power at his fingertips with the generator gone made it obvious just how significant the effects really were.

It's the same here, and now. Melia has the will to wield the weapon but, like trying to flex a muscle you barely use, she's not acclimated to the process. The Sword of Origin should not drain her to wield, but it is.

Somehow, somewhere, something is holding it back.

And that thought is not reassuring, as Melia picks herself back up, and prepares to fight whatever comes next.

Yatta!
