Completely distracted by his victim, he doesn't notice until it's too late.
He shrieks and begins to melt.
He melts all over Mary.
The guy she was making out with just melted to death on top of her.
Marie probably could have made that less traumatic.

Marie dries her off a little with paper towels from the bathroom, sits her down in the main room.

While Mary is sullenly eating her ice cream, the door is dramatically swung open as a draft blows in, and in walks Terlette.
"Well well well, look at Mrs. Big Shot over here, slamming doors around left and right. You'll wait your turn like everyone else," says Taako

Marie should feel safe in Taako's presence. The elf radiates a magical aura; if a female vampire had walked through that door instead of her dear friend Terlette, he'd no doubt identify and destroy on sight with zero hesitation. Or he'd just run like a coward, but at least he knows danger when he sees it.
Terlette scoffs at Taako, but then Marie catches her attention, and the archmage runs right over to sit with her and Mary. "Yo!"

Mary finally looks up from her ice cream, seeming curious about this app about magic.
"There's a few rudimentary spells you might be able to cast using the app, depending on metaphysics. And since it's not within a humongous tome, you can take it with you basically anywhere."

After the vampire and Mary go into the back of the kitchen, Marie will have 15 minutes to take action before the vampire kills Mary and makes his escape.
