Sora, meanwhile, waited for the fireball to get close enough, and then, with one foot, he kicked it upward into the higher areas of the Empowering Armory, resulting in a rain of sparks down on the surrounding area.
The smaller fireballs still hit him, but he barely showed any affect from either of the blasts.

As usual, a sneering upper class.
"You'll need to do a lot more than that to knock me down! I duel for the sake of the 99% of people, to give them all the chance to fly."

Navajo frowned at the screen. "He isn't very, uh... lively, is he?" He scratched his head. "I'm supposed to be the stoic one and even I plan on being more animated than that. He really doesn't look like he's having much fun."
Hey look!. Yu-Gi-Oh meets wrasslin'!"No kiddin'... Clown's putting on more of a show." Jack fumbles around in his pockets to pick up his own deck, looking down at it. At the top seemed to be Xyz Remora, the only regular monster card without shark in its name. This card already gives quite a few ideas... But it'll be a while before he goes on stage.
“While I understand why having a gimmick is important,” Jon said, having shuffled toward Joe, “I disagree with this one's timing. The line about the ninety-nine percent would have fitted in much better in a duel against, say, your humble servant, than against a clown.”
On empty crossroads, seek the eclipse -- for when Sol and Lua align, the lost shall find their way home.The Clown raised her eyebrows at Sora's comment. "The 99%... Laddeh, you're crazier than I am, and that's an accomplishment! Anyway, time ta get this show on the road! I overlay my two Flameaters to Xyz Summon the big man himself, the ringmaster of this whole crrrrazy circus, ladies and gentlemen, it's PERFORMAGE TRRRRRRAPEZE MAAAAAGICIAN!"
The Clown's two monsters cackled and bounced into the sky with a trampoline that certainly hadn't been there a second ago. At the apex of their jump, they combined in a flash of multicolored light, and the monster that floated down was... interesting.
It looked like a clown, sort of. It was adorned with a white singlet with a pink ruff at the hips, and pants that were the same shade of white that were covered in gold stars, flared out just below the ruff and became progressively thinner, ending in pointy shoes with bells on the ends. It had a staff with two sun-shaped knobs, one on each end. All of this was topped off by a matching hat and mask, as well as the two orbiting bits of light that denoted it's Xyz Materials. It chuckled sinisterly as it reached the ground. (ATK: 2500)
“Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable." - Taylor HebertJanus pondered "It appears he wants to position himself as an... underdog me thinks, hmm I was under the impression one must not be on a level field from the get go..." He mulls over aloud "that or a terrible lose streak"
The graceless warrior, wielder of the edgeless blade, prophet of the old religions, writer of fluent nonsense, saviour of soul and song.The Clown laughed. "Well, boyo, It's been fun, but I'm afraid I'll have ta leave ya here. Trapeze Magician, attack his Arnis! Havoc Wing!"
What happened next was... odd. Trapeze Magician threw its staff at Arnis, which then sprouted wings and attempted to wrap itself around Arnis (somehow). Then it would lift the struggling Warrior far above the field, and let go.

“Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable." - Taylor HebertHowever, Sora suddenly frowned and gestured to Gagaga Samurai - and the monster flew right off the Nightmare Wheel, getting in the way of Trapeze Magician's attack on Arnis, all while switching to defensive position.
"My Gagaga Samurai isn't just good for attacking - he can also switch to defense when one of my monsters is under threat and take the attack."
The Samurai seemed to cast a last glance over at Arnis before the ghoulish clown conducted its attack.
When the Samurai was thrown to the ground instead, Sora seemed to move to bow in respect for the sacrifice, "My thanks, Gagaga Samurai...a solemn moment for you!"

Sora smiled at his draw, "This one's for you, Samurai!"
"I start by discarding my card to activate my Armory, now, come forth son of the tempest, empowered warrior of the rushing winds, Ventdra the Empowered Warrior!"
Sora's field released a huge wind storm as a blue figure descended from above, bright cerulean armor and a single dragon-like armored claw glowing as the field affected it.
(2000/800 -> 2300/800)
"And he has the power to attack your life points directly."
The Clown pulls this
face. "Carreh on."
"Of course, that's hardly enough, I've barely put on a show compared to you, so I think I'll bring out my main man."
Sora gestured at both his Dragodeus and Arnis, both being covered by a light and red aura as they flew up into a rift in the sky.
"Surging forth from skies filled with thunder clouds, rebel against the unjust authority that smothers the spirits of the aspirants! Shadow of the unending thundering sky, come forth!"
Two large wings formed, resembling spikes facing backward, then a dragonic form emerged, with a trio of horns forming on the head, followed by a roar as the black dragon of the rebellion descended.
"I call upon you, Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon!"
The dragon's wings seemed to light up as its attack power increased, lightning arcing off and making a grandiose show in the Empowering Armory, swords glowing bright, light purple as the lightning struck the swords, armor and other pieces.
[2500/2000 -> 2800/2000]
"Now, Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon, activate your effect! Treason Lightning!"
The large black dragon spread its wings wide, its overlay units flying into them, and released a huge amount of electricity that seemed to hold the Trapeze Magician in one place, decreasing its attack power by 1250, and then adding that sum to Dark Rebellion.
[2800 -> 4050]
"Now, to battle phase! Ventdra, attack the clown directly!" Ventdra seemed to dart through the air and then struck down at the Killer Clown with a strike of its arm.
The Clown moved to block Ventdra's strike, and didn't entirely succeed; Ventdra feinted at the last moment towards her stomach, catching The Clown solidly and almost bowling her over. (LP: 1200)
The Clown straightened, and gave a slightly pained grin. "A solid hit. Can ye do one better?"
“Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable." - Taylor HebertTrapeze Magician dropped its staff and spread its arms wide, appearing to welcome the attack before being speared through the chest and shattering into a million glass-like shards, which pelted The Clown, who mimicked her monster, a smile on her face. Up in the announcer's box, Kayla was going wild. "That was amazing! I haven't seen a duel that intense in almost forever! The sheer amount of back-and-forths had me going the whole time! What do you think about it, Mackenzie?"
Her co-commentator grinned hugely and said "That certainly was an entertaining duel! And remember, this was only the first newbie duel of the night. If the new blood's first duel was this amazing, who knows what the others will be like? Speaking of, let's move our attention back to the field, where the next contestants should be entering shortly."

After taking her leave of the field, Deirdre sat on a bench in the locker room, shaking with excitement. Her first WDF duel, and boy, had it been a duel to remember! Her opponent had been a bit of an odd bird, though, with the whole "99%" thing. He looked like he meant it, too, rather than it just being an act for the stage, like her whole "sadistic court jester" shtick. The IRC chat was probably already flipping their collective shit, though she'd have to wait to check it until after everyone else's matches. She took a few calming breaths, then walked back into the lounge, all smiles.

“Not a promise, not an oath, or a malediction or a curse. Inevitable." - Taylor HebertNavajo grinned as Deirdre returned to the room. "Good show," he said. "A double turnaround is always interesting." He tossed her a soda from the minifridge. "And excellent dueling from you, Sora," he said, tossing another can his way. "Though a bit dry on the showmanship for me. Still, early bits can always be a tad awkward or off." He smiled brightly. "Still, the rest of us newbies will have a good night after that showing! Not to downplay Aime and Sean's duel," he said, nodding at the senior duelists.
Hey look!. Yu-Gi-Oh meets wrasslin'!Sora spread his arms out and walked forward as his duel ended in victory - the crowd cheering, the people...yes, this was why he dueled. Not for the experience of triumph, but for this.
She wasn't so bad. Maybe...yeah...
As Sora left, he looked down at his Aether monster. Next time.
He put everything back in, preparing himself - this was an entertaining series of events.
As he returned to the lounge, he too was all smiles, as usual though he looked somewhat fox-like, with those squinty eyes and the big smile.
"Whew...that was some back and forth..." He listened to what Navajo said, deciding to adhere to that as reference, People love a show - it makes ideas easier...

The Clown raised her eyebrows, clearly unimpressed. "O' course I do! I'd nae be a good jester if I didn't after all! I activate Tremendous Fire!" Two fireballs formed, one much larger than the other. "This spell does the same thing as Meteor, but it inflicts 500 to me as well." The fireballs flew towards their respective targets, but as the smaller one flew towards her, The Clown placed another card on her disk. "Next, since I would take effect damage, I can Special Summon Performage Flameater from my hand!"
A small ball with googly eyes, a red cape, a wizard hat, and an odd, wire-like tail appeared, and ate the fireball. (ATK: 1200)
"When Flameater is Special Summoned, both players take 500 points of damage."
Two more fireballs formed and shot towards their targets.
"However, I have another Flameater, who will do the same thing."
Another of the odd spherical monsters appeared, eating the fireball meant for The Clown.
"And once again, both of us take 500 points of damage. I have no counters this time, so I'll take my damage like a good girl."
A final pair of spheres formed, and as The Clown's one hit her, she ate it, too, then grinned wickedly, fire still licking out from between her teeth. (LP: 3500)
