Benedict could only smile bemusedly at Cornelius.

"If you saw fucking lightning strike on a clear day and heard students yell about superpowers, would you honestly believe that some kids got superhuman abilities? I doubt he'll even want to consider the possibility. This is real life, not some comic book, so convincing him that we are normal shouldn't be too hard. Provided that telepath didn't erase his memory anyway. Though I suppose checking him for injuries is a good idea."

That said, Benedict strolled over to the principal and rolled him onto his back, looking for any blood or bruises.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Tim had ducked under his desk when all hell broke loose and poor Principal Shooter was knocked unconscious. Now the students were milling around and trying to figure out what to do.

"I don't even know what I can do yet," he muttered to himself.

That's not true, said an impish little voice inside his head and he suddenly remembered the burning skeleton from the night before. Tim pushed that thought away and stood up, dusting himself off.

Comic book or not, according to that polite kid from the night before, Corenlius, what was definitely true was that he and the others keep a low profile. Easy for some of them, but then he remembered how tough it'd be for those like Amy...

"Some of us lucked out on our powers," he murmured off-handedly.

Luna frowned at Cornelius for being called, Bolt girl, but then Alex approached her and it helped her to relax a bit.

"Yeah, pretty much," she replied to Alex with a sigh as she wasn't that good at making her friends either.

Luckily Alex's reputation as a fighter didn't bother the goth girl as she felt connected with outcast like her, and in fact found him interesting. The world has gone to hell, hasn't it? she sighed

After her wave of psionic influence hit room Zia simply stood shaking, hands to her temple, with her eyes wide in horror. Oh god. Oh god what have done to… Oh shit. I didn’t… Her mind raced, anyone with telepathic abilities would hear her voice softly repeating a single word, like broken record player, Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry She couldn’t take her eyes off Principal Shooter even as the students argued, flashed their powers and emotions ran wild through her head.

Zia had destroyed Principal Shooter’s mind. She didn’t know how to repair it or if he would ever recover – she had essentially killed a man. His body just didn’t know it yet.

When Ciro attempted to speak to his friend she simply slumped into her chair and began to murmur, “I didn’t… I just wanted to keep everyone… safe. I – I couldn’t stand the… shouting. The…. Oh god. I’m sorry.” She stammered under her breath, trying to fix Shooter’s mind but not knowing how. It was apparently much easier to destroy a mind than to salvage one. Zia finally tuned back in to everyone’s external, and internal, debate. When Benedict mentioned erasing his memory she nearly sobbed, but ended up settling for stopping her catatonia. “He… He didn’t faint. I’m so, so sorry. I panicked – you were all yelling.” Zia spoke up, fidgeting and refusing eye contact. “He saw your powers. I just wanted to make him forget 5 minutes. Not… Not everything.” She buried her head in her hands, aloof mask broken by the revelation of what she could do.

“Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?”

Terry realized, in that moment, what exactly Zia had done, and why she was being so profuse in her mental apologies. He knew how that felt - and he knew he had to do something to fix it. He could not just leave things as they were. He had a responsibility now, as a person with powers, to try to do something.

I have the same powers she does. Maybe...maybe I can fix him.

Terry repressed a want to cry for the sake of someone who just got their mind destroyed (he may not be fully capable of that) purely so he could work for the sake of trying to repair him.

He started to walk over to Shooter, bright light starting to show on Terry's arm. He had to repair this. He couldn't let something he possibly caused end like this.

Robert could fix this. Lets see if you're on his level, power wise.

Who the hell was Robert? Why did this creature keep making references to him like this? Was Robert the last person to hold these powers, driven insane by the gibbering demon in his skull?

Right now, however, that didn't matter.

He knelt by the Principal and tried to coax his powers to work on healing, rather than damaging. The bright golden glow spread over the Principal's body, intensifying as Terry's eyes almost seemed to glow blue. The glow was bright, but not overpowering, and oddly soothing looking.

Alex smiled...though it looked a bit more like an amused smirk. "That, or reality's gone off it's rocker." He added. Luna was a cool girl to talk to, in his opinion.

"So I only managed to catch the end of your group chat, before..." Alex gestured to the hubbub and dying chaos. "...that happened. Your powers are based off... Black Adam, I think?" Either that, or one of the Marvels had a colour swap...

Shooter's collapse effected a sudden change among the students, high tempers simmering down, replaced by fear and confusion. The rage ebbed away, and with it, Anna's own. The tiger-constructs flickered out of existence without a source to feed on. Anna slumped against her desk, suddenly feeling exhausted. She turned to the Middle Eastern boy, giving him a tired smile. "Thank you, needed that. But..." Her voice turned sharp. Maybe it was still residual rage, or her own, but she felt utter fury for his brazen attempt to control her, even though it was tempered by a cooler, logical voice of reason. "Don't do that again."

Was that what she did? Make... things out of thin air? And get angry? She shivered. No, not anger. Anger was realizing that Pat was stealing from the treasury. Anger was being stuck in traffic, This was something entirely different. Different and -

Liberating.

Blake just leant back in his chair and watched as everyone started to argue again.

"What the fuck are we doing?"

Blake stayed silent for the moment; there was nothing he could do to ameliorate the situation and he really didn't feel like arguing with that bunch. Some of them seemed reasonable enough - and Zia was clearly guilty about her psychic arrack - but these people had no control and frankly some of them were getting annoying.

Ciro had also gone back to Shooter's body, and was watching Benedict examine it. He bristled a little at Benedict's mention of memory loss. "We shouldn't think of this as a worst-case scenario. For all we know Zia just knocked him out and his memory's completely fine."

Though, speaking of Zia... Ciro looked over at her, gut wrenching at what he saw. As much as she expressed her disdain for the instrument-destroying students, he knew she wasn't a person who wanted to hurt others. Seeing her beat herself up like this...

"Zi, it's not your fault. We're all new to this, and we were all freaking out; something worse would have happened if you hadn't interfered." He was trying to put as much as reassurance as he could into his words, but it still felt hollow. He was about to go over there, ask Zia if she wanted to step outside for a bit, when Terry came up next to Shooter. When he started using his powers Ciro's first instinct was to panic, but he tried to keep his head about him.

"Uhm, Terry, buddy?" Ciro reached out his hand but stopped just short of grabbing Terry's own, worried that interfering with the light would make something bad happen. "I- I don't doubt your powers are awesome but... maybe we should wait before trying something like this? It might..." he paused, not wanting to upset Zia by saying it might backfire, "...it might not be great until we test it out first, okay?"

Jessica Hawkins scratched the itchy surface of her prisoner uniforms, staring as the man in front of her gently used one hand to cut a slab of meat into more digestible pieces with a plastic knife. She pulled her hair back, leaning down to sip on her soup, as the caucasian man with short, black, raspy hair looked at her with a kind, forgiving smile.

"I'm surprised they let us eat together." Jessica muttered, and the man nodded gently, forking one piece of meat to his mouth.

"This is a... last request of mine." The man commented, his soft tone failing to punctuate the importance of his statement. But Jessica caught it.

"Are you dying, Jackie?" She asked, the hair on her skin standing up a little. Was it because of their powers? Was she halfway to death too?

"No, Jessica." Jackie replied, chuckling lightly at her confusion. "I'm submitting to—... to his... cure." He stuck a piece of meat in his mouth to not look at Jessica's expression.

"Are you an idiot?" She hissed through gritted teeth. "We can't trust him. He's been testing on us... it never works. You saw what happened to Barbra."

"Barbra went unwillingly." Jackie responded, solemnly, touching his chest and his forehead in memory of their fallen friend. "I... I don't think we could call that Barbra."

"Barbra went unwillingly- of course she fucking did!" Jessica growled, holding back the urge to punch the table. "Because he... he killed her seven hundred times. By that last death, she was barely human. I heard that they had to restaff the lab after what happened to Barbra. Said she became something different. All so that bastard could find out what makes her tick."

"I can no longer live this life, Jessica!" Jackie said, his tone rising slightly above the usual, as his tears welled up in his eyes. "W-when I... got empowered... my mind became the smartest in the galaxy. Within seconds, I knew enough t-to... to do anything I ever wanted. And it only grew. I had to... d-develop a method to erase my knowledge every day. Because I didn't know if it would ever stop." He sobbed, cleaning his eyes on the sleeves of his uniform. "I-I can't live this life anymore. My other hand..."

His eyes went down to his right hand, which had been the entire meal under the table. Curious, Jessica looked down... and her eyes widened. His hand was carving an equation into his own skin... with his nails. She looked up, shocked, as a tear or two started streaming down Jackie's lips. "It... hurts... so much. But I n-n-need to do it." Jackie dropped the fork, reaching for the collar around his neck. "T-this... helps. It erases my mind every time it gets too big. Turns me b-back into a baby... but it doesn't stop it. Three hours later, I can already run circles around Albert Einstein. S-six hours, I'm d-developing artificial intelligence c-coding on my c-cell wall... I try to not think, and it hurts even more."

"Jesus Christ, Jackie."

"You know how it is, Jessica. You know h-how good it feels... to use your powers." Jackie muttered, and Jessica gulped. "T-t-that's why I'm s-submitting to the cure. Maybe I-I'll go back to bein' normal. Bein' dumb."

"But you'll feel hollow inside, Jackie." Jessica reached over the table, caressing his hand.

"Oh, Jessica." Jackie whispered, leaning down, trembling to kiss her hand. "Y-you were so kind to me. Ever since we f-first met. But for you... i-it's easy. You just feel empty. If I don't think... if I don't r-research... if I don't use my mind? It f-f-feels like a thousand knives... stabbing m-me from the inside."

"Jackie." Jessica tugged on his hand, tears welling up on her eyes. "Please, Jackie. Don't. Don't do this to yourself." She leaned in, whispering. "I order you to not do it."

"You know that doesn't work, Jessica." Jackie responded wistfully.

"You won't submit to him."

"You know it doesn't work on me, Jessica." Jackie continued, reaching over to wipe the tears from Jessica's cheek.

"YOU WON'T LEAVE ME, DAMNIT!"

Jessica slammed her fist on the table, but Jackie started caressing her head. "There... there... it's going to be fine. I'm going to be normal. And then m-maybe you could... be normal with me too." He whispered, tenderly touching her hand, as Jessica shook her head.

"I can't go back to being human, Jackie. I can't go back to being normal." Jessica muttered, shaking her head over and over, tears dripping on her soup. " I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. "

"Don't be."

" I'm sorry I can't be with you. "

"Don't be, Jessica..."

" I'm sorry I can't... " Jessica stopped herself when she felt Jackie's grip on her loosen. She looked up... at him, gazing around. Hands and feet limp, drool leaking out of his mouth. He let out a few guttural noises before slapping one bloodied hand on the food, playing with the steak.

And Jessica was alone again.

"I've got a name, you know." 'Scales' growled in a deep, almost manly baritone, a mushy hand reaching for her neck. "Shit... my voice sounds horrible." She growled again, coughing, as if trying to get a frog out of her neck. "God... oh god, I can't sound like this! Fuck me... " She squeaked, and even her voice at a higher pitch sounded deeper than the others.

"It's gonna be fine." Jessica told 'Scales', smiling gently at her, before glaring at Alex. "Y-you should be mindful of your tone to others. T-that being said... thanks for not judging this." She pointed at her own purple skin. "It feels so weird..."

"I agree with Benedict. He has a sound plan." The middle eastern boy said, walking over to Zi. "Hey, it's not your fault, alright? Besides, we don't know if Shooter's really... well, let's not consider that possibility, right? I think we should all do like Benedict said. Wait until he wakes up... then regroup back at his home, to work things out, figure out who can do what."

Shooter's breathing started to regulate and speed up, a sign that at least his body was returning to normal. "Maybe you could get the nurse to let us all go early?" The middle eastern boy jokingly said to Zia, before noticing Shooter. "Oh... no. Everyone who looks weird, cover up! Bolt Girl— please turn back to normal."

As soon as Shooter returned to normal, Terry stopped his light show, and stood back, looking down at his hands. I just restored life to someone. Maybe I should look more into these light powers of mine...

Terry walked over to Alex and the others, who were apparently discussing who people got their powers from. Maybe that would be a good lead on where these powers came from and what they were, exactly.

Oddly, that Void in his head was quiet. Suspiciously quiet.

"Sorry if I freaked anyone out with that show. I just...couldn't leave him like that." He wiped a few stray tears from his eyes.

For Zia the forgiveness of the others was a two-edged sword. She could hear that their sentiment was truthful – they, having their own issues with controlling their powers, understood that she hadn’t meant to nearly kill Shooter or cause so much pain throughout the classroom. However this was because they knew she had screwed up colossally and that, contrary to the image she liked to portray, was an emotional wreck like the rest of them. She didn’t think she was superior, far from it, Zia had always felt like a burdensome waste of flesh since her father… Well, removed himself from family life. The emphasis being on ‘’life’’. She cringed at the thought of that pun but tried to smile to Ciro and the time-stopping boy, the effect was shaky but she couldn’t bare to show her true feelings.

They all had such problems – this wasn’t about her and Zia didn’t want it to be. That being said, she was very tempted to take that step outside with Ciro. ‘’’’’Thanks. I appreciate the thought.’’’’’ There was a [[Beat beat]], ‘’’’’God that pun was lame.’’’’’ Ciro could feel Zia’s internal cringe at the wordplay. The telepath nodded to the middle-eastern boy, thankful of his humor but giving him a joking scowl, “I get the feeling if we asked her like ‘’this’’ she wouldn’t be in a position to argue…”

Zi felt Terry’s power working on Principal Shooter before she saw the light and watched wordlessly. His breathing was calm and she tried to, carefully, check on the state of his mind. As the boy returned to the group, apologising for any worry he caused, she looked at him for a long moment then lunged forward and gave him what could best be described as the biggest hug of his life. ‘’’’’Thank you. Just… Thank you.’’’’’ Zia eventually, and awkwardly, extricated herself from the hug as she too realised everyone was still blatantly… ‘’weird’’.

Still wary of her powers Zia extended her mind to check if anyone was coming.

Alex gave the crocodile girl an apologetic shrug. "Sorry, I don't know your name...actually, I don't know yours either." He added, referring to Jessica. "I'm Alex Stone. And you don't need to thank me. We're pretty much all in this together anyways."

Hearing footsteps, Alex turned around to see Terry walking over to him. "Hi." He greeted with a brief nod.

Terry smiled when he felt Zia hug him, he...he couldn't have just left Shooter like that, not when it had hurt Zia this much, not when Shooter's family would never have known what happened.

And he was thankful for her and the others giving him the chance. He...he could heal people. It felt good, to help people in such a way.

And again no remark from the shadow man.

Terry decided again to shrug it off, though he got a bad feeling from that.

He looked over at Alex and handed him the cell phone with the blond guy's picture on it. Given that he'd been able to say who that girl's powers came from, maybe he'd help.

"Hey, uh, do you know who this guy is? I mean, he looks Avenger-ish, but..."

Luna Black-Socializing.

"Black adam?," the Goth girl said to him. Now that Alex had mentioned it, that made a lot more sense than little miss perfect Mary Marvel. "Yeah, bad guy, rebel, didn't take crap from anyone. I am not into comics, but I kinda like him, " she replied to Alex, still leaning on a wall and crossing her arms.

"What about yours? I bet those shades didn't come from Iron man," she said , as she had seen his black goo, coming to his body. "I am sure they will have more to worry, than just your kickboxing beatdowns,", she smirked to him.

At the same time she used her mind to give a message. You don't have to apologize," she thought mentally to Zia. We all are new to this and Terry is healing him. You covered my back I will cover yours," She thought as she watched pleased that Terry's powers had helped to fix the principal.

Then after time was stopped and the middle eastern kid asked her to return to normal, even she had to admit, it was for the best to wait for things to cool down.

Her eyes focused on Jessica, the dinosaur kid and specially Amy. As much as she hated to admit it, for once she was lucky about something, as she was able to be normal whenever she wanted. Unlike her those kids, had loving families, normal lives. Even if it was inevitable, in her mind, She wouldn't be the one to ruin that.

"Fine... shazam or whatev-" Luna said reluctantly, rolling her eyes..

The transformation was cancelled, before principal Shooter could see her, by another lightning, and then she returned to be an average and powerless teenage girl.

"Name's Luna, by the way," she told the other kids.

Bad powers, not-so-bad people.

Alex pulled his right sleeve back, exposing his wrist. The garmet's cuff rippled slightly, and small tendrils of black goo flowed out of the fabric and snaked around his wrist. Seconds later, the goo had formed into what appeared to be a wristwatch with a black leather strap.

"The Venom Symbiote." Alex explained. "Except no spider powers, and this one's much easier to get along with though." The watch then morphed into the sunglasses Luna saw earlier, before dissolving once again and retreating back into his jacket.

After Luna dismissed her transformation, Alex took a look at the image on Terry's cellphone, and frowned. "I'm not very familiar with this one..." He admitted. "What I do know is that he's called Sentry, he's a Marvel character, and that he's insanely powerful."

David watched with awe as Terry began to heal principal Shooter. That definitely had been unexpected. Terry was proving himself to be a box full of surprises. Yet David was more concern about Zia. She seemed to be in pain for what she'd done.

Zia gave Terry a big hug which, to David, was a good sign everything would be okay.

When Terry, Luna, Alex, and the others began to talk about his powers, David saw the opportunity to introduce himself to the new guys. David walked to them, as he was doing so, Luna transformed once again into her normal self.

Thank heaven. David thought, a little intimidated by Luna and her powers.

As Terry and Alex were talking, David decided to speak.

"...he's called Sentry, he's a Marvel character, and that he's insanely powerful..."

"H-Hey, guys." David said to the others. "Sorry to interrupt, but I just wanted to intrduce myself a little better. Name's David for those who don't know." He turned to Terry. "We already met before, earlier this morning. Nice job healing Principal Shooter, man. I mean it."

There was a voice piping up from somewhere behind Alex. "Are there any characters who happen to be good with fire? Aside from Pyro and the Human Torch, of course..."

The voice belonged to one of the newcomers, the wispy kid from the Cinema Club, dark-haired Tim Carillo, who introduced himself shyly.

"His name's The Sentry and he's insanely powerful."

Well, that did tell Terry the name of the hero and possibly through this the nature of Terry's own powers. Given that Luna's phone showed Black Adam on it, and she seemed to have powers related to saying the word "Shazam"...

He had the powers of The Sentry. Apparently, this included the power to heal, as well as, going by earlier experiences, incredible strength and speed.

He then looked over at David and smiled, yeah, he remembered that guy behind him earlier. "Oh, yeah! Yeah, nice to meet you, David." Terry walked over to David and offered him his hand, "I had to try. I just got the feeling I should, and...well, there we go."

Did these Sentry powers, though, also come with that foul shadow? And the longer the shadow was absent the more Terry worried about what exactly it was doing.

Amy crossed her arms. Really, she'd prefer scales to slime, but Tim's complement had helped a bit. If nothing else, she could still coordinate an outfit.

"You know," she commented to no one in particular, "I think this whole comic book character thing is a lot freakier than just the powers." She smiled apologetically at Tim. "That being said, I wish I'd been able to get into them. Maybe, um...I think I saw a movie not long back...Didn't the Green Goblin throw fire? Or something? It sounds useful, anyway."

She was just about worn out emotionally for today, and she wasn't sure she wanted to know just what character her powers resembled. Still, she lowered her scarf and took off her gloves. It was hot in here, and if someone recognized anything...she wouldn't call them powers, but green skin was pretty distinctive.

Terry blushed and looked down a little, he'd...never really been complimented like this before. It was a nice feeling, but he remembered not to let it go to his head. He couldn't get a big head.

Right...heh. Maybe you'll do better than Robert did. Now, I'll be courteous enough to explain a few things. I am called The Void. I am your equal and opposite. Your shadow. And whenever you do a good deed...well, off I go to do a "bad" one. It depends on your view, though - whatever you won't do, I'll do.

Terry winced visibly at the return of The Void to his head. Given what it had said, and everything else, he was left wondering what it did and where it went. What did Void do...?

Alex hummed in thought. "Match, maybe? Ghost rider sort of counts as well, , but other than them..." He murmured...combing through his memories. "...there was a pretty old character that looked like Ghost rider. Burning...Blazing Skull, I think?" Alex shrugged. "That's all I got, sorry."

Anna came up next, wondering if he could help. Alex was beginning to wonder if he really did wake up in a mirror dimension or something.

"I'll give it a shot..." He nodded, looking at her ring. Oh hey, I know this...one...oh shit. Under his hood, Alex's eyes shot wide open in recognition and shock.

Th-that's scary... The symbiote shivered as it viewed the memories of its host. Wearing a ring like that would break our bond...and it would hurt a lot...and might kill us.

"That's a Red Lantern Ring." Alex said. "It uses anger as energy to attack or create energy constructs. Very powerful. Very volatile."
