According to the commentary they designed him as “the living expression of a black hole.”

Which does explain the anatomy. XD

There are rumors of Christopher Daniel Barnes reprising his role as the 1990s Spiderman for the sequel.

I would love if Barnes and Josh Keaton came back to play their versions of Peter.

They ought to bring back Dan Gilvezan, who played Spider-Man in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and played the Spider-Man (Miguel O'Hara) of 2099 in the video game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

It turns out that Christopher Daniel Barnes supposedly reprising his role as 90s Spiderman is false. John Semper Jr posted to Facebook where he said that Chris's wife said that he's not reprising the role.

[up] Well, he should have at least one role in the sequel, then.

The Spiderverse sequel will have 3 directors. Joaquim Dos Santos is still on the project, but he's joined by Kemp Powers (Soul) and Justin K Thompson (I think he's a Sony producer).

[up] Out of curiosity who were the original directors and are they still involved in any capacity?

I think only Dos Santos was confirmed before today.

The fact that none of the original directors are directing this doesn't really bode well for it...

[up]x3: Actually, Thompson is a visual production designer at Sony Pictures, whose specific work on the first Spider-Verse won the film an Annie Award in "Production Design in an Animated Feature Production". And that's the tip of iceberg in his extensive career...

For now, none of the names in this new director trio scream worrisome to me. Their collective previous works shows compentance on themes featured in the first film. Obscure works like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the aforementioned Soul.

Its not like the original creative team have quit or been moved on entirely either - they're still heavily involved so I'm not stressing it.

If it was a whole new team of newbies then that would be worrying, this is less so (for me at least.)

Hey, so remember when I kept insisting that Into the Spider-Verse would end up on Disney+ eventually?

Turns out I was half-right.

For those too busy to click, once Sony's Netflix exclusivity expires, all movies from its 2022-2026 theatrical slate is hauling butt to Disney+, including the untitled Into the Spider-Verse sequel.

Further, the article also says that that the MCU Spider-Man movies will end up on Disney+ after the Netflix window is done as well. (And I'd be surprised if Into the Spider-Verse doesn't get on Disney+ by then too.)

[up] Funny you should mention that, because as of this post, Spectacular Spider-Man is trending on Twitter because folks have gotten convinced that the third season for that show has become more plausible thanks to this deal, but I myself am not entirely convinced...

Spider-Verse's lead animator Nick Kondo has a thread discussing the most difficult shot he had to animate for the movie. (The answer might surprise you. Or be harrowing.)

    The Answer
After mulling about the shot with the Spiders avoiding getting caught by Ganke or how they had to mess with the Green Goblin model so it could pass as a shadow of the Lizard in Spider-Gwen's origin story segment, ultimately the hardest shot for Kondo to animate was when Jefferson had Miles and Aaron in the alleyway, just after the latter got shot by the Kingpin. Co-director Bob Persichetti expressed to Kondo that at that point, Miles' life was falling apart. He had to deal with his uncle both being a bad guy and getting shot at by Kingpin and now Miles' own father was about to find out he's a Spider-Man. If you thought the whole thing was nightmarish, the moment was originally envisioned with Jefferson aiming directly at Miles, which they nixed that because of its level of yikes. And to really put himself in Miles' shoes, Kondo thought back to that feeling of losing his own dad out of nowhere shortly after college. The whole scene took 3 months to animate, so that plus the emotional toll makes this the hardest scene to animate for Nick Kondo.
