That kind of stuff will only matter if you decide to write a story where that's a problem. If there's no story that goes into that kind of Who's on First? stuff, then it won't come up. It's still early days for Miles in the comics...and ultimately as consumers it's not really our concern how they do this naming and corporate branding stuff. Right now in comics, Peter Parker is an adult Spider-Man operating on a slightly bigger scale, whereas Miles is a small-scale street-level Spider-Man and so on. So their world don't overlap too much. It's a bigger problem in moronic TV shows like the 2017 Spider-Man cartoon where both Peter and Miles are the same age and are both Spider-Man at the same time, which ruins and messes up both stories and gives little to separate or contrast either of them. As a character Miles works best when he has a grown-up older Peter as a Foil.

Gwen is called Ghost Spider in Marvel Rising.

Cool...the small-children or tween-youtubers who see that will know her as Ghost-Spider from now on. So that's great. The Radioactive Ghost-Spider sounds kind-of cool and '90s edgelordish which makes the fact that Gwen is this ballerina/drummer hot mess of a character this perfect counterpoint.

Still, Spider-Gwen doesn't work as a real superhero name, they aren't using Spider-Woman or Spider-Girl for whatever reason(still, if they ever animate Mayday, it would be awesome), and Miles can't be Spider-Man if Peter is still around, so...

Wake me up at your own risk.

Why not calling her Spider-Ghost? Sounds better in my ear….Or Spider-hood, referring to her costume.

In the comics Miles can totally be Spider-Man if Peter is around. I mean the comics especially 616 is a big place. There have been multiple superheroes with the same monikers running around in Marvel for a long time. Like different Ant-Man, multiple Captain America. I remember during the Black Costume era, where different Spider-Titles and different issues had Peter switch between black and red-and-blue and I think one story had people wonder if there were two Spider-Man running around. In the movies and so on, it's not yet an issue...because ITSV is Miles' first outing. I mean in the comics you have this controversial Superior Spider-Man character and he's called Spider-Man too. I don't think or expect he will ever be adapted legitimately into any movie or medium of significance since that story is tied specifically to comic book medium but basically right now in the comics you have three titles, Superior Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man, Miles Morales Spider-Man documenting three different dudes in the Spider-Man outfit. And comics fans aren't confused.

In the case of Miles, it was special and important that he got to be Spider-Man...like you know that moment in Batman Beyond where one guy calls Terry for being pretty good for a punk who thinks he's Batman and then Terry says "I. Am. Batman." and you totally bought it. Miles is Spider-Man and giving him another identity no matter how cool kind of downgrades him from Batman Beyond to just another Nightwing and so on.

You mean a reference to the young audiences for Marvel Rising. That was definitely not the intention. All I meant was that as far as naming and branding goes, what counts is whether there's a show for young kids around with Ghost Spider. That goes further than doing it in comics. Just use Ghost Spider in ITSV-2 or whatever and you don't ever have to look back.

Comic rebranding and so on is tricky and twisty. For instance Fawcett Comics' Captain Marvel never recovered when he got bought out by DC and had his name changed to Shazam!. IN a month or two Carol Danvers will be Captain Marvel for generations to come, even if she's actually like the third Captain Marvel or so. Likewise thanks to Paul Rudd, Scott Lang will be more Ant Man than Hank Pym will ever be again.

Gwen may change her codename in the spinoff movie so all three leads can have different names, though this movie has 3 Spider-Men on the same team.

The Shazam name change happened way after the DC buyout.

Yeah, Billy Batson kept that alias until 2011, and even after they changed it to Shazam they kept around some Alternate Universe versions of him that were still called Captain Marvel.

I can't help but laugh at some salty anime fans upset that Spider-Verse won awards in animation over the Mirai film.

Even saying that it only won because it has a black protagonist all about being black & that its animation style is "different" so it deserves a win even if its actually ugly.

Man salty weebs are funny. tongue

Its just their reactions.

They are doing the whole "Anime always gets snubbed, Western bias, & all that crap."

I'm sure Mirai is a fine film but from what I've seen of it, the animation & art looks pretty typical.

[up]x2: That's happening on some message boards? A shame really, but I haven't seen Mirai yet to judge its quality. Japanese animation, besides a Miyazaki/Ghibli piece, is always going to have a hard time winning at awards shows like the Globes. Heck, it was a legitimate question whether or not Sony was going to take it, since much like its Oscar counterpart, "Best Animated Feature" has gone to Disney/Pixar consistently.

Speaking of folks unfairly trashing Spider-Verse just to prove their agenda, remember film critic Roger Moore who gave the film's first rotten review? He's back in the midst of one Regal Theatre putting up a seizure warning for the film, and he's making quite the hot takes.

Well, they aren't wrong about Anime having a hard time to win and isn't Mirai from a particular acclaimed director? But, yeah, doesn't change how impressive the animation in Into the Spider-Verse is...even if the frame rate was mostly about saving money.

This fight between anime and ITSV reminds me of that old nostrum about the status-quo keeping itself running by pitting the lower classes against itself. I mean this is a chance to break through All Animation Is Disney without going all Dreamworks, and so on. Would they rather have Isle of Dogs win?

I haven't seen much of the reaction online, but could it be carry over from last year?

I know people were really annoyed by Boss Baby being nominated over Your Name / A Silent Voice.

Because of how blatantly obvious it was they didn't get selected purely because they were anime.

Anyway, I saw the movie yesterday and I loved it.

I've never seen anything with Miles in it before, but I was a real fan of his character.

Miles is Spider-Man and giving him another identity no matter how cool kind of downgrades him from Batman Beyond to just another Nightwing and so on.

Didn't Nightwing got to be Batman an then went back to being Nightwing after Bruce returned?

even if the frame rate was mostly about saving money.

Spider-Verse's character animation wasn't a budget-based decision, but an intentional visual choice. The film's production budget is around 90 million dollars, making it more expensive than most Sony Pictures Animation works (ranging from 40 to 85 mil) besides Surf's Up ($100 mil).

Loved the movie, need more of the spider-people. If movies are too much, commission some meaty specials for Noir, Peni and Porker at least.

I found Miles to be a very different character than in the comics.

Comic Miles is a good character and has had fantastic stories told about him, but truth be told, the guy himself is kinda bland.

The whole angle of him being a down to earth, artistic type sets this Miles apart from the comics Miles.

At least in the stuff I read, which is halfway through his Ultimate run.

Dunno if other media or later comics established this artistic streak.

It's good, works well to justify the artstyle. Its an extension of Miles sensibilities.
