Honestly I think this film is what Miles needs to stop being "black Peter". The biggest problem with Miles as a character, at least versus other diverse characters in modern Marvel comics, is that his place is, well, literally Black (Latino) Spider-Man. Let him take care of New York City while Peter goes off on his wacky globetrotting adventures because he's a billionaire now or something I guess. He doesn't have his own distinct niche, his unique elements aren't played up enough to really make him seem like much more than a convenient replacement while the REAL Spider-Man goes off in more interesting directions. Hell, every time he DOES get a new element (like Ganke), it just gets slapped onto Peter's mythos, as seen in the new film.
But if Lord/Miller can actually write a story that adds substantial new concepts and elements to Miles as a character, like say a memorable unique rogue's gallery, or a new angle to approach his story from beyond "meditation on black culture" and "meditation on the shadow of Peter Parker", well it could actually build a space for Miles in Marvel Comics, a permanent one.
Shameik Moore to voice Miles while Liev Schreiber to voice the villain.[1]

I'm afraid that to most people, Miles will never be more than "The Black Spider-Man" (Never mind that he's a Black Latino). I also doubt they will be going for a "Dead Peter" storyline, not while also exploiting that character in other media. More likely they'll just have them coexist, like in the current comics.
