It’s probably a licensing nightmare. I wonder what the process was for using him the comics.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume a wizard did it.
Am I the only one who thinks it's odd we haven't heard what the rating for Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is yet? Since it's an animated movie, my initial guess was that it would be rated PG (which seems to be the default rating for such movies in this day and age), but I'm no longer so sure. The trailers seem to be focus more on action and drama than comedy, which is extremely atypical for animated movie trailers. The marketing I've seen, both on social media and in the "real world", seems to be trying to sell the movie to an overall hipper, more urban, older, and teen-oriented crowd than most other animated movies. With all that in mind. . . could we be looking at a PG-13 theatrical animated superhero movie?
Didn't think about it too much initially, but now that you bring it up...it does seem pretty odd.
I'm not sure it's going to be PG-13 though since it's still using the usual Sony Pictures Animation logo and movies from SPA never go beyond PG. Maybe a PG that just barely reaches the necessities for a PG-13? What was the last movie to do that?
It may seem more jarring to the average American animated cinema-goer because this is a franchise and genre we mostly have seen done IN LIVE-ACTION rather than cartoony-descended animation. There HAVE been animated superhero feature films but they were mostly relegated to the TV or home video market.
And the cartoon superhero movies that DO show up in theaters are either largely comedic like The Lego Batman Movie or somehow end up (criminally) overlooked like Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
The problem with Mask of the Phantasm was that the studio had no faith in it, so they didn't market it and only gave it a limited run.
I hope that Into the Spider-Verse can break through that particular ceiling.
Leopardon makes a cameo at least.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Into the Spider-Verse gets its funk on with its own line of POP! Figures from Funko!
Do note that this constitutes as our first un-blurry look at Spider-Ham, Peni Parker with SP//dr, Prowler, and Scorpion.
Also, does anyone else think Kingpin is looking a lot like Max the Bodyguard?
Looks like Max Gargan version of Scorpion, which makes sense with Miles
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"New trailer! With Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Ham!
Still no rating. I wonder what's with that.
So, who would buy those Spider-Man products?
Wake me up at your own risk.Peni, Spider-Ham, and Noir are going to steal this movie.
This song needs more love.Ah, so hobo Peter is from a dimension where he's a commercial icon and dates Mary Jane...nice.
Think JJJ lost his voice from all his screaming?
Wake me up at your own risk.x2
Makes you wonder why he looks like a Hobo.
Kinda sad that Peni's mech doesn't look like it does in the comics though.

"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"... my knowledge of the Spider-verse stops at Spider-Man, Spider Gwen, and negative. So i will be totally lost by this movie.
I'm digging the whole Nonstandard Character Design with Peni and Spider-Ham.
The movie itself is, at least as far as the trailers are showing, a very loose adaption of the story. (It actually seems to be closer to Spider Men) So you should be good.

GOH! JII! RAH!I also liked that the glimpse we get from Spider-Gwen's earth actually looks and feels like the art from her book.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Looks fun. A little bit less serious than I expected, but that might just be the trailer. I can do with overall sillyness, I just hope it's not child-movie silly.
Sweet mercy, that was a great trailer. Helps that I'm more hyped for Into the Spider-Verse than, say, Venom. Count me in for loving how different the main Spider-folks are looking. (Also, in one shot, you can actually see what looks like the main Spider-Suit from the PS4 game.
Some trivia posted in the movie's IMDb page claims it's going to be PG-13, but we should take it with a grain of salt. That said, if it does end up being true, then damn, that's mightily bold. I won't be suprised if people hold Into the Spider-Verse to a higher regard than Venom. It'd almost be like how Batman: Mask of the Phantasm was more praised than Batman Forever despite being animated.
Yes they will. Peni and Spider-Ham especially.
In fairness, Evangelion, which appears to be the main inspiration for Peni's mech in the comics, is kind of...weird. Like, even by anime standards, it's weird. And disturbing. And depressing. So I don't blame the folks making the movie for simplifying Peni's mech to be easier to swallow for those whose knowledge of anime (and Japanese culture in general) only extends to something globally recognizable like Pokémon or DragonBall.

It probably won't be. The original trailer looked a lot more serious and action-filled than this one, and even this second trailer wasn't as heavy on comedy as, say, The LEGO Batman Movie. If I had to choose another comic book movie to compare it to in terms of tone, I'd probably pick Guardians of the Galaxy. Which, incidentally, was rated PG-13. Hmmm. . .

Looks fun, but it bears repeating, whose hand needs to be greased for Supidaman and Leopardon?
