Yeah, Mary's not gonna shrug off a bullet to the chest without a large dose of deus ex machina, so she's dead. As for whether Leo is aware of her murder, hell if I know. He could be, but with all the skipping around and the fragmented dialogue ( Monologue? ) it's hard to say what exactly is going on beyond what's shown.
Actually, it was exceedingly straightforward.
Leo is obviously not aware that White is dead, unless Despair told him it was going to happen before he did it. We also know she's only mostly dead, since she still has to show up and see Leo based upon the montage we saw at the very beginning of the series.

I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new Empire. The visuals, directing, storylines, characters, voices, music, premise, setting, original author, and general atmosphere, in no particular order, all make it sublime.

@Chariot: I'd second with what darksidevoid and Hylarn said. Although I wished it was 2-cour or something, because there are a lot of characters and I wanna know more about them. I also wished it was fully episodic—not that I didn't like the overarching plot, but... I guess this comes back to the characters too, ahaha. I wanna see the others fleshed out.
(my tumblr) (my fics) (anime i watch)Yeah, seriously, Chain barely gets any focus, and Mechanic girl hasn't even made an appearance outside of the episode she was introduced in, despite being prominent in the ending sequence. This series really needed to be longer.
If I knew how I know everything I know, I'd only be able to know half as much because my brain would be clogged up with where I know it fromLooking at Wikipedia it seems to be still ongoing, albeit at a slow pace of only two volumes a year and jumping between several magazines that ceased publication. It's currently in JUMP SQ Crown, a seasonal magazine. It looks like the anime covered exactly half of the currently-released manga material.
My Megaman and MegaTen RPG LiveblogsSo I started watching this show, and the setting seemed gimmicky, and the characters annoying. But the visuals and setting kept getting cooler.
And then I saw episode 3.
And I have but one thing to say.
"Klaus von Reinherz, will you marry me?"
I mean, that line. That fucking line.
Even Superman never said something this cool. Even Kamina never said something this manly. Even Jonathan Joestar isn't such an epic-level, badass, tear-inducing, true gentleman. He is so fucking hot!

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Huh, that's interesting. In the ending we have this montage of "pictures" showing everyone in the aftermath of Halloween, suggesting an indirect "what happened to them next", and yet we have this one picture snuck in of Mary. That kind of took me by surprise.
Some thoughts:
How do you interpret the final two photos, with Leo and Mary together apparently watching another movie? It's interesting to point out, as Leo shows a bandage around his head, but while we've seen him with that way (back at the start of the show), I don't think we've seen him having that injury WHILE he was with Mary, certainly not at the point where they became way closer as friends. There's a bit of ambiguity there then, especially when you consider that Mary IS the barrier now... Plus Mary's not wearing twintails here, at least not in the way she wore them through the show.
Also that sequel hook.

As in the jacket in the flashback? It's been like that before. I think Black and White are always supposed to be wearing red and blue in that scene, but the bleak lighting makes them both look really dark at times.
