I... hated episode 8. I felt that it was rushed and boring. I felt Matt was unlikable and that Heather was also unlikeable. 3 out of 10. My least favorite episode of the season.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadEpisode 3 is still my favorite. This was just boring and filled with Matt whining and being a jerk to everyone. I stand by my statement. I hated this episode. It felt like a bunch of nothing until Bullseye made it to the party.
I did like the ending and how Dex foreshadowed Matt saving Fisk earlier when he mentioned "defending your worst enemies". Dex overall was the best part of it and I think next episode will be better.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadTo be fair, Matt has always dipped into moments where he's been a total dick due to his personal issues. Heather being flighty also makes sense since she's still recovering from everything regarding Muse.
But I respect your opinion, even if I don't agree with it.
I do agree that Dex was delightfully unhinged, and really brings the darkness back that this show needed.
"I'm Mr. Blue, woah-woah-ooh..."To be clear, I am clearly in the minority here and I am glad that you guys got something out of it when I didn't.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadFor me, this is where it's finally become Daredevil Season 4. Better late than never.
Normally I don't care what other people think about the media I consume, but in this case I'm happy the reaction to this episode has been overwhelmingly positive compared to the prior stretch. Hopefully that'll be reflected in reviews/viewership and reaffirm to Marvel Studios that this is what the majority of us want to see, and they should not only continue on-track with Daredevil but start bringing back some of the other shows with the same tone and writing quality.

It's funny how this is when the show truly picks up and it's one of the only 2 episodes made entirely after the reshoots.
Man if this is just a taste I can't wait for the finale and next season.
Hopefully it manages to keep consistent with itself cause this was rad. Fucking finally I've been awaiting all my life for an adaptation to finally capture Bullseye's famous tooth kills.
They fucking nailed it, Bullseye is a straight menace.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Yeah and this episode is him just having a full-on breakdown which is honestly part of what I love about it. Like Cherry said, he’s trying to blow up his own life (gotta love that Catholic Guilt)
What's past is prologue, what's future comes after coffee.I still like Bullseye though and I definitely think next episode will be better due to having more of him and Punisher. If there is one thing I am thankful for with the reshoots it's allowing Wilson Bethel to come back.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI still don't think they gave BB a personality. They gave her a goal but that is not the same thing as a personality.
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadHeather is a pop psychologist who clout chases with taking the Fisks on despite knowing he's a mobster (which the Sopranos points out is actually something psychologists are meant to vet). She also attends Fisk's ball despite how inappropriate it is for the fame. Her book is also something she wrote with a desire to talk to people like the Punisher.
She doesn't want to feel weak so she's an Ungrateful Bastard to Daredevil and says she saved herself even when Daredevil stabilized her, which Matt immediately calls out.
In short, she and Matt are doomed because they are wildly different people.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Plus Matt has been using their relationship to cope with losing Foggy and Karen. Just based on those set photos we've seen from season 2, he'll be going straight back to Karen as soon as she returns. And I believe Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll mentioned at a panel or at the red carpet premiere that there's a scene where Matt and Karen reminisce over old NM&P memorabilia, which I think will only further showcase Matt's compatibility with her vs. his incompatibility with Heather.
Okey Dokey! As I understand the rewrites:
All of the greater metaplot and larger story is the Disney executives insistence or more precisely Sana Amanat. Take note she's Ms. Marvel's co-creator and also a Daredevil creator herself.
Basically, as I understand it, the changes are the following:
- Episode 1, 8, 9 are all her doing.
- Making a random male victim into Angela Del Toro in the Muse episode.
- Inserting Frank Castle into the story.
- Showing Foggy Nelson dying
- Showing Karen leaving
- The Bullseye fight
- Moving around Episode 5 to the middle of the season instead of the start
- Inserting the BB Urich parts to give a greater sense of what was going on in the city
Basically, the pre-edit version was just Daredevil in his corporate lawyer life with foggy's death mentioned and the episodes we've got without larger connective tissue.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.
That lines up with a Reddit comment about the reshoots that I can't find now. It's a shame because it was pretty specific regarding what was and wasn't added
Edit: Found it

What's past is prologue, what's future comes after coffee.I will say, though I've definitely been more invested in the episodes that Dario Scardapane, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been involved with in this series, I don't want to entirely dismiss the other pre-overhaul episodes/elements that exist within this episode.
Like, I know that "With Interest" is a conscientious episode because of how disconnected it is from the overall narrative, but I like how it it was episodic in nature and had Matt focus on a one-and-done crime event that tied into the overarching MCU. And Hector's trial was actually a cool introspective into the legal side of Matt's work.
Honestly, the only part of the show that I felt could've been done better is ironically the Muse subplot. But since we've got one episode left and I've hear rumors that he's going to be a part of Season 2 somehow, I'll save my judgement until next week. In general though, while this show definitely has a Frankenstein'd Merger of Souls feel to it in regards to its tone and story choices, I like that we get to see two different interpretations of Matt Murdock and his world, even if they don't entirely gel together.

The Scrappy of the Trope Pantheon, God of Thumps
With this episode being born from the new direction versus episode 5 being what we call the most untouched from the past direction, I have a sinking feeling why the original version was passed over.
The conflict between Mayor Fisk’s anti-vigilante would be there but Matt wouldnt have so much trauma at the forefront that relates to him becoming Daredevil again. Since we know it was reshot to have closer ties to the Netflix show, I assume that in the original version, Matt’s primary develop would manifest through how he deals with his firm’s financial troubles and his failing relationship. With the most layered protag on the MCU, I could see a majority of show dedicated to his conflicts that served to reset Matt back to he was before for the sake of character reset would have really unimpressed Marvel. While that does happen, the ties to the old show like Punisher and Bullseye make Matt’s return to Daredevil be more like a disillusioned vengeance than a re-origin story.
And yes, I still like episode 5 but I would question if I would like it if every episode was like how felt like it showed off Matt teeter being Daredevil and not being that without addressing his past.

Pantheon server for all who click here. Lost too much money and time, this coaster ain’t stopping. The reshoots feel like all the complaints of the D+ shows finally bearing fruit and actually affecting how the shows are made.
All the new stuff is very comic booky and actiony in ways prior shows aren't. Since the original show appears to be more of a grounded legal proceeding, it definitely felt like it would have suffered from the same issues of early D+ shows of being extended origin stories.
Especially if we take into account how without the Bullseye opening, Matt would have spent even more time out of costume depending on how long the Muse plotline would have taken. It appears like it would have been another Surf Dracula issue thats common with D+ shows.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Just now starting up episode 8, but it did strike me funny that the preview had Fisk comment on the esk, and the prior mayor and how he "built this city" in light of the two performances of "We Built This City" that he had to suffer from. Was that the same episode?
And, finally watched the episode. It was good. I think that both Matt and Heather are dealing with respective trauma in unhealthy ways and their lack of ability to talk about it is what's sabotaging the relationship. The one thing that bugs me, for all that it makes perfect sense from a dramatic point of view, is how long it takes Bullseye to line up the shot. This is a guy with pinpoint accuracy with just about every weapon he's carried and yet he delays shooting Fisk long enough to let Matt finish his conversation with Vanessa, detect the attack, and then step into the way. I mean, there are possible explanations. His pinpoint accuracy is primarily with thrown objects where he can quickly assess all of their properties, while guns usually need to be sighted in, something that you really can't know without firing it. He also may have been savoring the imminent kill and/or wrestling with that bit of him that clung to the vestiges of a moral code to avoid being a monster. And while he's wielding a rifle at fairly short range, in a situation where he could fire multiple shots to be sure and then make his escape in the chaos, he does have a bit of an obsession with precision and his ego probably wants a one shot kill.
Sorry... that's a lot of spoiled text. I do wonder whether this will change the dynamic between Fisk and Matt. Sure, Fisk owes him a debt, but I'm reminded of that old joke that if someone loans you a hundred dollars, they have power over you, but if they loan you a million dollars, you have power over them.

He's already been a shitheel all season, but now I'd really like to see Officer Powell get submerged in a vat of boiling fry oil and deep-fried beyond human recognition, down his throat and into his eye sockets too, but kept alive in that state for as long as medical science can allow, with no administration of painkillers permitted.
He's apparently gonna be in Season 2, so I'm curious what they plan to do with him next.
