"They're obscured, some say they're not very big, others put their numbers in the hundreds or above."

Truth was, Adel didn't know the number and was just making a wild guess based on the rumours he heard when he was last around.

"Oh, and there's also rumours that the other church around here, opposed to Sekhret and her goons, has picked up some lovely ladies who apparently have some special talents."

"Too many churches," Johnathan sighed, "What's wrong with Jesus?" He turned back, looking over his shoulder. "What was the bell anyway?"

"Well, apparently, this one's got the backing of the mainstream Catholic and English Churches...pretty rare, that..."

He then got a spike of intuition and stopped, looking ahead, seeing a mob of Sekhret Cultists bandying around a crudely designed, burning effigy of a woman.

They danced about it madly, shouting, "Down, crush the sirens! Let only blessed Sekhret sing in the heavens, her song a command to kill and eat! Kill and eat!"

Sho Yon listened wordlessly to Adel and Johnathan discuss the bizarre churches and their conflicts in this city. It almost made her glad that her temple worshiped no gods, revered Gautama Buddha and other enlightened paragons certainly, but to devote ones life to the will of another being was... Troubling, in more senses than one. Pointing this out, however, would not be very diplomatic - Hence the monk's silence.

The twisted, bloodied streets did give her thought on her own reasons for being there. Why her biological father, a Yggdrassili, would choose to drown her and whether she still had connection to that past, "Strange, I thought the streets would be more familiar. Either I have changed, or they have..." She ponder aloud, the burning effigy in the distance prompting her to listen closely.

"Is there a way around, Adel?" Yon asked their elected guide, not finding much reassurance as to their prospects against them gicen the nature of the chanting.

Listening to the insane ramblings of the Sekhret Church members and the discussion between Jonathan and Adel made Familius glad that he didn't worship any Gods. All magic he performed came from him and him alone-no need to sacrifice anything to any God or deity for it to work.

"So," he said, feeling slightly tired after the run "Where to next, hm?"

Johnathan rested his hand on the hilt of his sabre, running his hand through Strider's mane. "Easy girl." He rumbled, watching the cultists.

"Sadly, no - and given the thing Einhart told us about the alleyways, I think we'd be good to keep going and try to..."

Adel paused in the middle of his sentence when the cultists turned suddenly when the group neared them sufficiently. As if they were all of one mind.

They started chanting;

"Burn her!"

"Eat her flesh!"

"Break her bones open!"

"Drink the marrow!"

Adel moved in front of her and as soon as he did this, the cultists started to draw their weapons, namely, large hatchet weapons and knives. Blood already coating their weapons, showing they were well fed, given the nature of their cult.

They at once charged, teeth gnashing and eyes darting wildly.

"It is all the same." Johnathan muttered to himself, striding forward. His pistol drawn, firing at knees and heads, attempting to cripple them before the fight began, he did not draw his sword.

It seemed the cultists had better awareness of their surroundings than they had given them credit, howling and charging for their blood... Or, more specifically, the blood of 'her' which Sho Yon presumed meant the lady Dinah. The young woman and her sickness had a connection to Yggdrassil she could only assume. Not her fault, naturally, simply intriguing.

The monk closed her eyes for a brief second, focusing the power and spirit of her being into her kun. Without hesitation Sho Yon made for the cultists in an arch away from John's bullets. She lunged into them, her body and staff coming down upon all near as one and with her spiritual focus giving the strikes a knife's edge.

Finally, getting a chance to fight in this mission, Familius harnesses the power he left in his staff from when they were about to go up against the Maneater Boar. He strikes the cobbled street and a crude runic drawing of a skull appears on the street in front of him before a duo of skeletons appear. They have very battered wooden shields and blooded scimitars and don't look all that intelligent, however they immediately set to work attacking the cultists, slicing them with their scimitars. Meanwhile Familius appears to be in some sort of trance while controlling them, his actions depicting their own and he seems oblivious to anything else going on around him.

Sho Yon messily cut into the group of cultist enemies, her staff crushing their heads and in some cases crushing chests. Some were stricken down by Familius' skeletons but not to death, such that they quickly backed up, brandishing knives.

The downed enemies cursed her viciously, but then among them suddenly one of the cultists grabbed his fellow even while he was still cursing...and promptly sank his teeth, suddenly resembling a wolf's fangs, into the man's flesh, eating frantically.

Quickly, the cultist became larger, teeth developing so large his mouth distended to such an extent the mouth resembled hanging scissors. A third eye tore itself open on his forehead as his hands shredded, blood spattering on the ground, bare bone sharpening and becoming stronger.

Adelheid switched his sword to whip form and cut through the throat of one cultist while eviscerating another one in defence of his lady, and then cursed when he saw the monstrous form the cultist was taking on.

The other cultists started backing up, but began chanting, "Lo Our Fellow Is Bless'd By Sekhret! We offer our flesh! Merrily we give our blood!"

Even while fighting back, they were moving toward their bestial ally, who was swiping his claws in front of him, either to swipe aside enemies or grab his allies to use as a meal.

Adel shouted, advising his allies mid-battle, "No matter what, don't allow that creature to devour its allies, living or dead!"

Meanwhile, Einhart stood in the same place as they left him in, breathing deeply. He knew it was here. The sound of buildings being crashed through filled the air. It was coming.

The bell chime was louder. Most mortal men could barely hear it now, but to Einhart and others from Yggdrasil, it was deafeningly loud now.

And that was when it emerged.

Crashing through a building, a large figure lumbered into view, it had lost its grace and ease of movement, becoming an ogre. Its face seemed to have a praying, angelic statue built into the structure of its body...yet, the middle of the statue quaked.

And when it saw Einhart, two large red eyes tore open at the breast of the statue, and the middle tore open, revealing a saw toothed mouth that unleashed a keening scream. Out of the dust it came, and indeed the rest of it was as bestial as the falsely beautiful head.

Silver armor stained with blood sewn on to flesh and muscle, swords pinned human hides to its body at numerous points, visibly clipped wings on its back flapped back and forth, a futile attempt at flight. The claws curved like scythes, the arms heavily muscled and covered again in silver armor and with human hide nailed on with swords.

Its back likewise was impaled several times through with long blades, a long, whip-like tail extending from its rear, ending in a huge axe-blade.

Einhart seemed to almost sympathize with the amount of torment this creature looked to be in, and sighed, "I did this to you, Tzuphiel, didn't I...? My early departure, using you to defend me on the way out...but I cannot die just yet!"

She really couldn't avoid engagement. It was stupid to even consider, really, treading on the most hostile ground on earth, but at least she got to see her companions' prowess, and, so far, Aisel is impressed.

But no more idling.

The third eye opens on the forehead of the transformed cultist. The plague normally doesn't do that, but, as she mentally notes, the importance of 'eye' cannot be discarded. Even if refuses to believe these cultist indeed wield divine power, this development is certainly not normal for beasts of Yggdrasil, as far as she knows. Still, physically speaking, an eye is still a very vulnerable spot.

With that said, she quickly aims the Intervention pistol in her hand at the hulking beast's third eye, and opens fire.

That's more like it.

Johnthan holstered his pistol, drawing his sabre and leaping into the mass of human cultists, slashing at them in an aim to kill them before they reached the beast, he made sure to keep an eye on said abomination. Afterall, that was where the blood was.

Sho Yon heard Adel's warning, sparing a nod in his direction as the man became some kind of beastial thing. It's third eye particularly caught the monk's attention, unsure what to make of its significance. Nevertheless, she leaped into action - placing herself inbetween the wolf-beast and a number of cultists eagerly walking into the slaughter.

Keeping her distance from the creature, though still giving it good attention, Yon struck at the men. Her effort was more on driving them away from their goal than to kill. Dead or alive, so long as they did not fuel their transformed brethren their chances were improved.

Familius, still in a trance did not see the third eye on the cultist nor did he see him begin to devour his allies like a cannibal, however even in the state he was in now, Adel's words still reached him so, seeing his allies were busy trying to stop the horde of men from approaching the 'Blessed One', he moved his skeletons to attack him instead of the cultists. However, they had taken quite a beating and were near death so he feared he may need to perform another summoning ritual int he heat of the battle-wasting valuable time. Familius hoped he and his allies were good enough to prevent that from happening.

Familius' skeletons staggered forward, and just as they approached, the Blessed One lashed out with its cruel talons while shrieking in an unearthly manner. It definitely had beyond human strength, and was not a werewolf-beast either.

However, the blast from Aisel's pistol seems to have hit it right where she should be aiming, sending the creature reeling forward, as if the attack stunned it drastically, its limbs stop moving so quickly as it tries to regain its stance.

Whatever importance the third eye had, it seemed to hold a vital significance to the creature's functionality.

Sho Yon meanwhile was achieving her goal, keeping the dazed cultists from reaching the Blesed One to offer their lives. Likewise, Johnathan slaughtered a number of the cultists before they reached their target.

Adel watches for now, wincing as he looked into the alleyways, seeming to see something for a brief instant, but then not any longer.

Dinah watches as he cuts through a pair of the cultists when they thought, apparently, he was distracted. She felt her hand tighten, it felt hot...yes, it was sufficient here.

Seeing his target has now been-temporarily at least-stunned, Familius commands his skeletons to redouble their attacks on it, in the hopes that they can destroy it before their life returns to the rune which they were summoned from.

The Blessed One let out a keening screech as it roiled backward, Johnathan being coated in its blood and a collection of interesting pieces of the creature - what appeared to be squirming bits inside of it.

However, it seemed to recover quickly, its ruptured and bleeding wound not seeming to be much of a burden.

It swiped its claws in front of it once, then twice, scraping sounds issuing as its long claws rake along the ground. Then it brought down its left claw in a crushing strike after significant delay. The attacks were sufficient to scatter Familius' skeletons back to pieces.

It rushed forward and grabbed one of the dead cultists up, beginning to roughly shove the cultist into its mouth.

Adel ran forward and turned one of his swords to whip form, and stabbing the beast's meal, pulling hard on the cultist's dead body to try to delay its attempt at a meal. Despite being impaled in there, it seemed to hold - perhaps a residual design from an older model of sword.

Meanwhile, Einhart darted to the side and forward, through the sweeping, crushing swings of Tzuphiel's mighty tail, the beast's attempts to blow Einhart away with its wingbeat proving insufficient. Managing a selection of quick slashes with a bright silver blade, he shifted its form from broadsword to Katana for one last slash before using it to hold back one of the swords protruding through Tzuphiel, holding the skin to him.

Einhart knew that his equal and opposite was responsible for the state Tzuphiel was in, and grimaced.

He immediately had to back off when Tzuphiel backed up and breathed out a torrent of bright red fire from its mouth, in a large area in front of it. Even this far away, he felt the heat of the flame breath.

Dodging away, and activating an old bone sorcery, he dodged several more strikes from Tzuphiel's tail and arms, delivering several more cuts now aimed at the swords holding the skins to the creature.

All it took was a few slashes of the Holy Blade to disperse the sealing swords, and each time it seemed to daze Tzuphiel. However he dallied too long getting rid of a higher up one, and gasped in pain as Tzuphiel shoulder rushed him.

He did manage to get up and dodge out before the torrent of flame hit where he used to be. "She...doesn't intend on making this easy on me, I see."

Sho Yon saw the great beast shake off its wounds and hastily attempt to devour a fallen cultist. With a few well aimed blows from her kun she tried to knock back or finish the cultists she had been fending off and made a leaping charge. While it struggled against Adel she vaulted herself onto its back and struck at its third eye with all her strength.

Grunting in annoyance at the demise of his familiars, Familius was about to make preparations for re-summoning but it appeared his allies had the beast well covered. Deciding to aid them, Terra launched off from his shoulder and began spewing a strange sort of magical fireball, although rather small as Terra was, too. Strangely, Terra seemed to be dormant for all the time Familius was controlling his skeletons.

Aisel calmly breaks the handgun in the middle, sending the empty silver casing flying. Then, she inserts another bullet, and put the two parts back into one, all in but a few seconds.

Another round launches from the Intervention, this time moving towards the beast's left, 'natural' eye. The woman in red aims to keep her distance, if that's possible.
