Then came the silence. After a slaughter, there was always silence.

There Johnathan stood, surrounded by the fruits of his labor, his wide brimmed hat and cloak were now more scarlet than black as he exhaled, the breath a white cloud in the night sky.

"It's enough to make a man sick." He said to no one in particular, sheathing his weapons, and turning back to the others. "So, aside from fools who fancy themselves hunters, what else is here?"

It looked like the battle was basically over. Sho Yun had subdued the last of them, and as Adel walked by the scene with Dinah, considering what would happen next, suddenly Dinah felt something grip her dress.

One of the madmen Sho Yun had subdued returned to capability to act, and moaned at her, gripping desperately, "Beautiful lady...sing...sing...sym—-"

He was cut off by Adel's blade ripping into his head. By all accounts the boy apparently went deep into rage when he saw that madman grab his bride to be - he stabbed it, slashed it, crushed its arm with a few stomps of his leg, and Dinah just watched as he stabbed each and every trace of life out of that individual.

Adel breathed deeply and then brought Dinah into an embrace, showing emotional vulnerability after such a display, "Dinah, I am so sorry I let that thing almost hurt you...your disease in mind...I don't know what I would do without you..."

Dinah soothed him, and as they separated she looked back at the corpse. For an instant, maybe more, when it grabbed her, she saw numerous, spider-like eyes across its head, its jaw distending like some sort of wolf-beast.

But now it was human again. Human...and dead. Dead..and such a sweet, pungent smell of blood. On it. On Adel. She already felt more well than she had in a long time.

Einhart noticed this shift in demeanor and the appearance of that madman, and winced. "Its getting closer, day by day..." He then regarded what Johnathan said, specifically asking what else lurked out here. He knew what the scent of carrion would bring.

"Though rarer than it had been before, some beasts can be found wandering the streets, preying on the mobs who would hunt them and any sane people." As if proving his point, there was a sound like something heavy and porcine moving about nearby. Yet they couldn't see it just yet.

As the last convulsions on his life finally ceased, Sho Yon loosened the Kun from his throat - She gently, respectfully lowered the body to the ground and spoke too softly for the others to hear clearly, “May you find a clearer path on your next journey…” She walked serenely towards the others but paused as the near dead man spoke to Dinah. Strange things to say but, she wondered, perhaps significant in a way. Unfortunately Adel’s sudden rage stopped any elaboration; Yon did her best to let her alarm and frustration drift peacefully away with her breath. Clearly he had a strong attachment to his lady, for better or for worse. “What sickness ails you, Lady Dinah?” She asked softly, curious as to what they sought to cure through this tumultuous city.

Apparently something of the man’s desecrated body concerned Einhart, “What is coming closer, Aedra-Einhart?” She inquired, wiping a few spots of blood from her Kun. The porcine sounds made her ears prick, however, “We should continue, quietly… Please lay on, Aedra.” Sho Yon waved her hand towards their guide to encourage him on.

"We should find shelter." Johnathan said, walking over to his steed and climbing on, still dripping blood, he glanced at the direction the noises were coming from. "It's a Maneater," he said.

Disgusting beasts, Maneateaters were known for eating lost children and such, in Londo, rare but not as dangerous as most.

Dinah looked down, her father made her swear to never speak of it, but she trusted the monk. She didn't seem like one of the bad people that had attacked the castle recently. "My father says "the old blood is too strong in you". The doctors say my blood is...too hot some times..."

She kept moving alongside Adelheid, noticing he seemed troubled by some of the blood. At least that was how she perceived it.

Adelheid was just about to try to wipe some blood off of his face when after finishing saying that, Dinah walked over and calmly licked it off. He mused that he should feel more revolted than he did.

Einhart seemed surprised he voiced such a thought openly, thinking about this question in particular, "Ah...I suspect the time may be coming for speed s-soon. Once we deal with the pig." He seemed to quiet down slightly after saying that.

Einhart ran forward quietly, almost seeming to vanish from one place to another with the speed he was employing. He turned a corner and looked around, seeing what looked like a juvenile Maneater Pig. That wasn't as big as it was going to get.

He ran back over and stated, "It is a juvenile, so its charge won't be as devastating."

Dinah stopped and smiled, thinking of the pigs she saw on one of the farms, asking in a rather innocent fashion, "C-Can I keep it..."

Sho Yon chose not to comment on Dinah's 'old blood' as she had termed it, though it sounded like perhaps some inhereted illness. Or it could have been something more, something about the way she fixated on the blood around them made that a more likely truth.

She almost grimaced as Aedra explained the nature of the beast in their path, "A Juvenile Maneater Pig... No doubt tainted as the villagers." The monk mused, readying her Kun again and sparing a rare smirk for the young naive Dinah, "But of course - As a belt, or a wallet?" She assured, deadpan before settling into her usual calm. Yon focused and ventured closer to the sounds of the Maneater as stealthily as possible, keeping close to the walls and any available alcoves.

Having helped fight off the villagers, Terra squawked and landed back on his shoulder as Familius walked onward with the group, again tuning out the words of the guide...Edre was it? Edra? Edhart?

That was, until he saw the pig. It reminded him of some of the wild boars he had summoned before, rabid things that never seemed to obey exactly what he wanted them to do, no matter how much arcane knowledge he poured into the ritual used. Seeing the monk silently slip along the walls-probably engage the pig-Familius fell back one more, quietly mumbling the chant to one of his summons; Terra wouldn't be enough even though this was a juvenile. A minor summon would do, he would save the power and spectacle of some of the major ones until a major opponent was found.

Completing the chant, the talons around his staff seem to clench the flame at its peak, signifying its readyness to invoke the summoning ritual. Choosing to wait for the perfect time to strike, Familius goes back into the group until they engage.

"It will only shit or eat your children." Johnathan too the sick girl, "We're better off killing it." He got off of his horse and drew his sword, striding briskly down the street towards the pig.

"Maneater. Oh dear, oh dear."

"And, no, young miss, maneaters aren't for petting. The only interaction you'd get out of one is it gnawing on your rip cage as it tries tearing its way to your innards." She directs the comment at Dinah. The girl amuses her, to say the least.

But the pig? Aisel is visibly repulsed. She wholeheartedly agrees with Johnathan; the filthy thing is all too disgusting. The important thing with it is that, if there's a maneater here, and a juvenile one, at that, there's guaranteed to be more around. Charging in may not be the wisest of ideas.

Then again, seeing that her companions are all too eager in killing everything they find, Aisel's not in the mood to interrupt. What she does, instead, is reaching beneath the coat, and grab for her weapon. A wood-finished handgun, painstakingly decorated with complex patterns and images on its silver surface. In the end, she's aware that she can only avoid engagement for so long.

Dinah let out a squeak of shock at the mental images, and immediately Adelheid stepped in front of her to make it more clear yet of the fact he was extremely protective of her. He didn't know much about these pigs, but he hoped Dinah would find something a little more...sane...to use as a pet.

Meanwhile, as Sho Yon went forward to try to spot the creature, she found it near a collection of cast out garbage, broken pieces of something, and odd residue. It was apparently rummaging around in the garbage attempting to find a suitable meal.

Except that was when its head went up, seeming to detect Sho Yon...and then she heard what sounded like a bell in the distance, and the pig let out a squeal of fright and started charging right away from the area.

Adel seemed to hear the bell, too, much louder than the others were hearing it, and Dinah lightly held her ears at the sound. For the others, it was much fainter and less easily heard.

Einhart, however, definitely seemed to detect this, and motioned for everyone to move along, and follow his lead, down the path. However, he gave the impression that he was anxious, like speed was definitely needed at this point.

Adel wondered what it was, but looked back at Dinah and whispered to her to run along and he'd be behind her.

The ‘Maneater’ youngling was, it seemed, simply in search of food – Sho Yon found herself more inclined to find a way around the poor wretched beast than to kill it. However, it soon noticed her approach leaving little option. She held her Kun ready… And then a great bell rang in the distance, the great porcine creature fleeing with a frightened squeal. It was not an encouraging omen, prompting the monk to return to the others at a brisk pace, “It seems our pig-troubles are at solved, at least.” She commented optimistically as she matched Einhart’s pace.

Bell was deafening. Johnathan covered his ears, fighting back the urge to go combat whatever was ringing it and bathe in its blood...It just wasn't worth it,

"What is that?" He asked his guide, riding his horse along side him.

"Run. Now." The silver-eyed guide said to the group assembled here. "Follow the path to Central Yggdrasil, and do not stop running no matter what you hear or see. Do not diverge from the path into the alleyways, regardless what you see in there. I will meet back up with you there."

Einhart sounded resolute in that - whatever this was, it didn't necessarily have him scared. It had him acknowledging it as a threat to others around him.

Adelheid looked back at the others, briefly wondering what exactly they had run into. He hoped that Einhart was safe by the end of this, and that he didn't get greedy.

Dinah stopped along the path, looking down, "This...doesn't feel right."

Johnathan vaulted off the horse, grabbing Dinah Md and putting her on the steed, "Go!" He said grimmly, walking back to stand with his guide. "I am here to hunt. And hunt," he drew his weapons. "I shall."

Sho Yon nodded to Einhart and simply said, "Thank you." Before breaking into a run towards central Yggdrassil. However, seeing Dinah had stopped she came to her side though Johnathan was quick to place her on his steed. A good idea, though she usually did not approve of animal labor, considering her illness and confusion. But the old fool seemed keen on a fight, one she doubted any of them were ready for. The monk gripped the man by his arm and looked sternly into his eyes, "Hunting will do nothing but make you a prey, a meal for the creatures of this city." She said, standing firm to show she would not leave with anyone remaining behind, "Run and you may live to fight."

Slightly irked at not having had the chance to fight yet, Familius decides to keep the magic he had stored previously with the pig, stored still before running, albeit not very fast considering his age, with the others.

He did not hear the bell yet, somehow, he just knows it sounded. As if it was not ringing outside him but all through him. As usual, he was suspicious at the guide's insistence that they remove themselves from the sound of the bell ringing but decided he'd rather trust the suspicious man than get mauled by angry hunters. However, the other hunter-Johnathan?-didn't have this process of logic it seemed and even went as far as to place a young woman on his steed in his place. Familius doesn't have time for people who want to get themselves killed so he decides to let the monk deal with him and sets off, away from that deafening ringing sound he can't quite hear.

Aisel's usually not the type to object when it comes to running. Seeing as her would be foe is running with all the haste it can produce, running away seems easier than ever, and ever so tempting. She can hear the bell's ring. Faint, but definitely there. And she's a tad worried.

She turns to the hunter Johnathan, almost as if to say something, but when she sees that the monk, Sho Yon, is already acting on behalf of everyone in convincing him that standing here to fight isn't worth it, Aisel chooses to remain silent.

The guide's absence will prove troublesome, and while the woman has little trust for an outsider guide such as this one, Einhart's presence may be what draws the line between a successful expedition and a slaughter. The last expedition she was with, after all, saw their so-called 'experienced' guide facing a horrible death. The poor thing took the expedition's chance to even enter the city with him. Such a shame indeed.

And so she waits for the rest of them. As soon as the group begin to run, run she shall.

Adel keeps going, surprisingly managing to keep up with the man's horse as it takes Dinah down toward Central Yggdrasil. He looked back at the place they were leaving the guide to. The bell ringing was fading, but it was unquestionably still back there.

Einhart looked the older hunter over, as if assessing a quality that couldn't be seen immediately. The monk had a point, but to be certain this was something he had to do, lest this keep following him. "This is something I need to take care of by myself. Otherwise, things will become...complicated."

The bell ringing for those who have yet to leave starts to become louder. Whatever it is, its getting closer.

Sho Yon was finding it more difficult to remain detached from the sounding bell as it grew nearer and it increased her frustration with Johnathan. Nevertheless, her face showed no such emotion as he begrudgingly bid farewell the mysterious Einhart. Whatever business he had with the bells approaching she felt it was no time to find out and tugged on the old hunter's sleeve. Once he and Aisel departed towards the group she would break into an impressive pace, catching up swiftly.

Although being quite slow, Familius manages to use Terra to his advantage, using the gargoyle to keep with the others while he tries to catch up. After managing to quicken his pace for a bit, he does indeed catch up with the others. While still not caring much for the guide's safety he still asks:

"So, who will guide us now?"

NickTheSwing Since: Aug, 2009

Dinah chipped in once she saw more people come running over near the route away from whatever it was Einhart was going to be fighting, "Well, I think Adel could probably tell us some things about our surroundings. He visited Yggdrasil in the past, when he was selected to become my...husband."

She seemed to get her words confused for a second, but then smiled.

Adelheid stepped forward and pointed confidently at the road ahead, "As Einhart said, I think this leads right to Central Yggdrasil, but we must be careful of the Church of Sekhret. They're a group of madmen, becoming madder by the day."

Though he said it confidently enough, the truth was he only knew the general directions - for all he knew the Church of Blessings "controlled" this area.

Dinah looked back toward the place they'd left - the bell was becoming fainter the further they went. She hoped she wouldn't have to hear that again. It was bad enough the first few times.

Einhart breathed deeply, yes, he figured this would be the time - he couldn't run away from this forever, he'd need to confront Tzuphiel eventually. The monster rampaged across the city and caused chaos and devastation - and the longer he went without confronting it, the worse his chances became against the foes that really mattered. Tzuphiel was a mad dog, but the others...

He hoped Gehrman was right about these ones he let into the city. Otherwise, he would have very little help against her.

There was the sound of buildings collapsing as something crushed through them, a piercing roar following a loud bell chime. He winced, he would never get used to this resonance.

"They have a special unit I guess you could say, a ram-skull wearing gent they call a Soul-Eater. He's taller, faster on his feet and stronger than most of the Church's goons. That, and he breaths fire."

Adel remembered some stories about those augmented creatures the church apparently delighted in. There were even rumours they exchanged blood with such creatures...the perverse savages...
