"Long ago, the world was much more...arcane...than it currently is. The human soul was a viable currency and manner of advancement. Or was it? Has history itself changed? Or has humanity degraded, become more mundane and less capable of seeing the ulterior. The things beyond."

The young girl, clad in a large black dress with a large number of red eye motifs sewn in, slowly walked through the street of Yggdrasil. Things scurried away from her, glaring red eyes showing through the streets.

Her platinum blond hair and grey eyes seemed to almost shine with an unusual nature.

Behind her walked six Rugby Players, none of them had entered Yggdrasil seeking anything or desiring any knowledge. Rather, they had simply stumbled out of their "club" and then suddenly found themselves here.

One of them grabbed the girl's shoulder and demanded to know what was going on and why they were here, so far from home.

"Are you dreaming? Or is this simply in accordance with what has been demanded? Reality has moved on from the time of flames and sorcery. But perhaps some people seek nostalgia...is this a sin?"

One of the men, firm in his religious fervor, disapprovingly lectured the girl, "God is very clear in his command - suffer not the witch to live."

The girl quieted for a time, before she chuckled again, "What a bland thing...humanity has called its gods many things throughout the ages, but only in this one is a god simply called god. Truly, it cannot be a sin to desire to regenerate the powers that be from the past."

The religious man scowled, and pulled the girl around to face him and his companions, "Mayhap you forgot, but there are six of us here, and we are all good, righteous men. Take heed you don't incur punishment, girl."

She quickly moved out from his grasp and then pirouetted on her feet like a ballerina, turning and facing the men again, "You are not fit to punish me. You preach righteousness, but remain content in the world of the mundane. However, now you are within a nightmare. A world beyond the world you know, a world where some things have never died."

A tall, masculine version of the girl strode out from her shadow, his silver eyes glaring daggers at the six men, in such intensity each of them took a single step backward.

The religious man commenced praying, trying to banish what he dismissed as "hallucinations conjured by The Enemy", but this only seemed to intensify what happened next.

Werebeasts began to lurch out of the shadows of buildings and alleyways, hunger reflected in their bestial eyes. The men broke and started running, but the beasts were faster, more primed to a chase, a hunt.

The little girl and her masculine doppelganger watched the men they brought to Yggdrasil be butchered and devoured, but they knew the horror was not over for these individuals. Within this place, life was ephemeral - transitory to a next phase.

And they knew these men would prove interesting as for what they degraded into.

The Male asked the young girl, "Aedra, I see that the Hunters are beginning their nightly exultations. Should I inform Gehrman...?"

"No. It'd be more fun if he found out for himself. Besides, we have a role to play. Come, Aedra."

"Yes Aedra." The Male and the Female walked off into one of the alleyways and vanished, followed by a few werebeasts carrying the empty pieces of the men they slaughtered, smearing blood down the alley like a glorious red carpet for Aedra.

First Hunter Gehrman watched as a group of individuals found their way into the city of Yggdrasil. Regardless whether they were here for the power of blood or for the advancement of their knowledge, or even if they were here to advance an altruistic cause, the fact was they Hunted with the Hunters who prowled the streets now.

The dream will advance nonchalantly. The people dance along like merry puppets, keen only on their own goals without regard for who the puppetmasters are.

And this time, it appears the sirens sing a beautiful, alluring song, which will ensnare the misfortunate and the sinners.

For now, though, the old man sat in his rocking chair, watching the world go by - the moon was not yet in its full glory.

The new Hunters arrive...one way, or another, crossing the black bridge "Allant" connecting London to the New City of Yggdrasil out there, somehow constructed over the water.

...One...

Johnathan Keller looked around, he had hunted before, but the tales of this city? He had heard rumors to make even a seasoned Hunter of thirty years such as himself.

He sat upon his horse, riding it towards the bridge, his laneten hung from his belt, one hand instinctually rested upon the pommel of his sabre, even now prepared for whatever dark things lurked.

It looked like there was a dearth of life on the bridge, not even birds or plants...except near the city. Pigeons and doves seemed larger, more bold, and less frightened of humans, and just...stared. With strange human-like eyes. The plant-life near the city was larger, more robust than the usual moss. Whatever was happening in there was definitely starting to have odd effects.

Of course, Johnathan was not the only one venturing into the city of corrupted abundance - a little further back, a large carriage trotted down the bridge toward Yggdrasil. The carriage driver concealed his features, his horses were all black with dark eyes and matted hair, and the people inside the carriage were obscured by large black curtains.

Inside, a young woman with light red hair and green eyes could not keep her hands off of her erstwhile fiance / bodyguard. One of her hands traveled over his well toned abdomen and the other cradled his head, feeling his smooth raven-feather colored hair in her twitching, slightly uneasy hands.

The noble bodyguard's features were remarkably pretty, almost as much as his bride to be. Their lips locked together, she breathed then after finishing the kiss. Heavily, laboured - she was ill, but thankfully with nothing contagious.

The young man was clad well for this adventure, but his bride to be dressed in an ornate outfit resembling a form-fitting dress with several pieces of armor added to keep her safe.

Her weapon was apparently from the far east, being a long pole weapon with a broad blade at the end. Despite her illness, she still managed to carry such a weapon.

The carriage stopped near the city and the driver got off to prepare steps for the nobility inside.

Slowly, Adelheid and his dear Dinah left their carriage, Adelheid picking up his musket and strapping it across his back, also retrieving his weapons of choice, the Lightblades of Luftes and holstering them at his waist

He looked over at Johnathan and took in the man's look and equipment, this was someone skilled at the art of the hunt, such was very obvious to him. "Hello, friend. Do you venture here for the "cure" of Yggdrasil or for the sake of the hunt I heard the government has initiated."

A little ways back on the road to Yggdrassil a slight figure walked silently towards the bridge, a stout stick pinned behind the arm. Her clothes were typical of a London gentile, albeit a touch tarnished and worn. However the shaven head and unshakable serenity marked her as a monk, though less exotic in origin than most expected. Sho Yon, as she was called, saw the large carriage ahead and was not entirely surprised. The temple had caught wind of not only troubles overwhelming the city but also rumours of ‘cures’ that attracted many to its dangerous streets.

A week ago the government had sent an envoy to their temple, known for its unique fighting techniques, asking for assistance in investigating the cause of this trouble if not putting an end to it. Many of the most experienced monks were too old or too removed from the struggles of the world to go but they felt it right to grant their request in some manner. Hence Yon was sent, her skills in battle being impressive enough to give a chance of survival and having a history there that ‘needed addressing’. That was what her master, and adoptive father Sho Kun, had told her which the young looking woman pondered for much of the journey.

Yon four figures ahead, standing near the carriage – one obviously the driver, a man and woman in finer dress than these streets generally encouraged and an older man they addressed. She did not know them nor if they were hostile but as of yet she had no cause for alarm, letting such suspicious thoughts go. The monk approached with an open, friendly bearing though still ready for whatever may come. She bowed her head slightly to them in respect, passing by without a word.

"I am a hunter." Johnathan said, his voice a low growl. scanning the horizon, Heslowed his horse, allowing them to travel side by side. He did not take his hand off of his sabre. "And I am here to practice my craft." He looked at them, "I assume you are looking for the cure?"

His voice has a touch of distate, his well worn grey cloak and hat still had specks of blood.

Adelheid replied, immediately catching the hints of distaste, "That I am, though I will also hunt, to make sure that my bride to be is safe for her return trek to her family's old property, Castle Vayngloria."

Dinah walked forward uneasily, and she seemed to look at the older hunter as if examining him, and then said, "Adel, I think we should get going. We may be bothering the dear man."

He nodded, "Best of luck to you."

As the two tried to enter the city, following after the monk, it became apparent they were greeted at the gate. A platinum blond haired young man walked forward, holding one hand up and the gates immediately stopped closing. He stood before the monk, and addressed both her and the new arrivals such as Johnathan and the two nobles.

"Welcome to the City of Yggdrasil. I am called Aedra, or alternatively, Einhart, whichever pleases you." His eyes silver-colored, it was clear there was something more than mundane about him. "I will function as your guide and assistant in certain matters. If you want to talk about certain hunts, speak to my superior, Gehrman. He lives deeper in the city, though."

Aedra wore something like armor and a red priestly robe over this. His gauntlets were emblazoned with an image of a flame, and it was apparent he carried a long sword of some kind at his waist.

The noble couple and the self identified ‘hunter’ behind Sho Yon were, from what her keen ears could hear, not getting off to a great start. She sensed them following her to the main gates but made no motion to acknowledge this. The monk slowed her pace as the young, armed man approached through the gates – her Kun was ready in case he meant to challenge their entry, albeit not eager for such a confrontation. Fortunately, the strange silver-eyed figure tried only to greet them cordially to which Yon bowed respectfully.

Her lips relaxed into a hint of a smile as she returned his tidings, “Thank you, Aedra-Einhart. I am called Sho Yon and would be glad to have your assistance in any measure.” Yon’s voice was gentle but clear, she gestured to the people behind her, “I cannot speak for these travellers, but for now I simply ask entrance to Yggdrassil.”

Adelheid and Dinah took some steps forward, to the monk woman - Sho Yon's - side and nodded in agreement with the sentiment, "We too, for now, would simply like entrance into Yggdrasil. If...if you know anything of the cure—-"

Einhart very quickly looked down and replied in slightly ashamed sounding fashion, "The cure was once a beautiful, bountiful thing, but it is here no longer if not in form then in spirit and fact."

Einhart took in the appearance of the old hunter with a cursory glance, and continued, "You are currently proceeding down the path to Central Yggdrasil. That place is something like a hub. The city is massive. You can reach the Huntsman's Park, Rindzei's Arena and the Mansion District from there. While the route to Central Yggdrasil has mostly been secured, nothing is certain - the Beasts may strike, at any time. And if you hear a very loud bell ringing, run - don't ask why, just leave the thing to me and run until you cannot hear the bell any more."

Adelheid stifled a grimace at the idea of these bestial creatures. Dinah clung to his arm in fright, this was...more than she'd heard about before. She saw some humans gaining beastly traits, but...

Bringing up the carriage to park it behind the first, the second carriage's driver-a rather tall, lean man-got out and opened the door to let its occupier out. A huge, ornate staff comes out first, to help this second man to his feet. It is fashioned out of the finest wood with very small runes engraved in it to affirm its arcane properties and an ever-burning fire surrounded by what look like they are meant to be wooden talons at its peak to aid with its summoning spells. Slightly unsteady on his feet, Familius manages to walk out of the carriage and sees a conversation happening at the gate.

Worried he might be late, he walks over with Terra-his gargoyle familiar-perching on his shoulder as always. His red cloak that he uses to cover his rather frail form billowing out behind him as he reaches the five.

"Would this be the expedition into Yggdrasil?" He asks of them.

Yon raised a quizzical eyebrow to the discussion of the ‘cure’, both its apparent loss and the woman’s need of it. But, now was not the time to query further as their ‘guide’ had be thoroughly hospitable up to this point and did not seem likely to explain more clearly. It did peak her curiousity, however, as did whatever beast required such caution on the streets of Yggdrassil. A brief, humorous image of a large bell around a monster’s neck like that for a house cat flitted though her mind’s eye for a moment

“I thank you for this warning, and shall use caution on the path to this ‘hub’.” Sho Yon nodded, noting the discomfort of the others. In all likelihood the heart of this city would, in one way or another, guide her towards the heart of the turmoil befalling it. As she readied herself to enter a robed man with some sort of creature on his shoulder made himself known. She regarded him and his staff for a few seconds before tilting her head in affirmation – It seemed the expedition to investigate Yggdrassil had found her, odd as it looked.

“Aedra-Einhart, may we enter the city now?”

Noticing that the...monk? had at least acknowledged his presence, Familius echoed her question to what appeared to be their guide.

"Yes. I, myself, am quite eager to get this over with as soon as possible."

There's always a stranger place out there, and stranger still the people dwelling in it. These are truths to Miss Kilimovich, not at all up for debate. But Yggdrasil is a peculiar thing indeed. A city that appears, smells, no, feels queer, with a scent entirely unique to it. An Observer sees a great many things in their career, but to Aisel, to be herself standing before the very place that started it all, the source of all the misery, is... a strange feeling.

Perhaps it's only fair to assume that the 'hunters' coming here are as well strange folks.

Just a few years ago Aisel Kilimovich and her colleagues came to Yggdrasil, as part of the annual survey by the Containment Program. They never had the chance, or time, to really gain entrance, and stuck mainly in the areas surrounding the fallen city. Perhaps it was luck on their part, perhaps a missed opportunity. She herself could never tell. On one hand, the beasts that stalked the outskirts then gave her team enough trouble that she dreaded the thought of having to face what awaited within Yggdrasil's heart, yet on the other it was as if her little field trip was incomplete, as she went back home with a a lot questions, old and new, unanswered. It was such a shame, she would constantly think to herself.

Which is precisely why she volunteered to come back to Yggdrasil: To answer those questions.

In her most comfortable attire of bloody red redingote, a pair of black leather gloves and a pair of boots of the same material and colouring, with the finishing touch of a black bonnet, Aisel appears more fitting in a fancy party back at home than in an expedition. The saving feature of her choice of attire is perhaps her leather satchel, hanging down from her shoulder diagonally and resting behind her. Miscellaneous items? Perhaps. Things of use for the adventure to come? Likely. She's an Observer, after all.

Almost as if out of thin air, the lady in red appears beside the group of hunters, specifically nearest to Familius. She has quite the knack for that. Perks of being an Observer and all.

"Marvelous. I thought I'd missed the expedition." Says the woman, with a slight hint of playfulness. "What with you hunters being highly enthusiastic and all."

As the lady appears beside him, Familius notices her, rather unsuitable attire but does not comment even though he feels it is rather unfitting for exploring a city filled with beasts. He seems curious about her but as he is about to turn back around and voice his question again to the gatekeeper-come-guide, Terra launches off his shoulder and begins hissing and squawking at the new arrival, although seeming to keep his distance, as if he is apprehensive about the consequences of such as outburst.

After calming his familiar down, Familius finally decides to speak to this new Hunter.

"You must be special indeed. I've never had my pet react that strongly to a Hunter before. No secrets, I hope, my dear?" He says to her in a questioning tone.

Einhart nodded, and stated, "If this is the full expedition, then we can begin the hunt into Yggdrasil. What you have heard of the blood in this city is true, hence the need for this occasion."

He started to walk into the city, and immediately Adelheid and Dinah walked after. The young nobleman resolved it to himself that even if Einhart said that the cure was gone or corrupted or whatever, he would find a way. A new way to make sure his beloved was cured of her condition.

Dinah however seemed to recoil as she entered the city again, smelling the air - even this far out, she could smell blood on the air. It was a pungent smell...and oddly for her, a strikingly refreshing one. She tried to clear herself of that uncleanliness.

As the expedition moved forward, the gates started to close behind them. Yggdrasil looked like a massive city-scape, even in this way forward, there were numerous alleyways...and there were chewing noises within certain alleyways, though nothing could be seen inside them at the present time.

Einhart immediately gestured at some lamp-posts at certain street corners, "If these lamp posts ever, for any reason, burn blue, immediately take caution, brave hunters."

Walking through the city of Yggdrasil, Familius made sure to keep pace with the other Hunters. He immediately tuned out the guide as he prefers to trust his own senses rather than those of an already suspicious guide-although 'suspicious' is a word Familius links with everybody, save himself. He pays close attention, however, when the guide mentions about danger as, although he may not think his words trustworthy, Familius would rather listen to the dangers and not die than not listen and get eaten by a rabid beast.

Those chewing sounds do not bode well.

Einhart announced as they kept moving along the path, "If you cannot see what is within those alleyways, you will after some time spent here in Yggdrasil."

Adelheid seemed to recoil at something, it was apparently quite disgusting given his reaction - and he immediately moved in front of Dinah, but nothing happened.

Dinah herself stood there, staring into the alleyway with the chewing noises for a little before continuing on.

Einhart looked over at a ledge and higher street - some locals were apparently moving around in a line, a very thin dog at their side. He whispered, "They are convinced they hunt he beasts lurking in the city, yet they quietly become beasts. This, I suspect, may be the first hostile presence you will encounter."

He seemed offput, like he was slightly surprised they made it this far.

Sho Yon followed their mysterious guide a few yards behind Adel and Dinah, letting her senses expand into the streets with every breath. Gaining new insights into ones surrounds with time was not new to a monk of her order. However the secrets held within Yggdrassil's alleys and walls seemed less worldly than she was accustomed. Yon noticed the noble woman's brief fixation on the chewing noises but did not comment on this.

Their latest companion struck her as hiding something behind her playful visage - something in the way she smiled. She had no trust for any of these strangers as of yet but she might have more work ahead to gain Yon's, should she desire it. The monk took a more cautious pace as they passed under the deluded 'hunters', a trace of pity passing through her thoughts, "It is too often the way of such obsessions." She whispered to no one in particular, taking a more cautious gait and keeping her Kun ready.

She would not engage them if they remained oblivious to their presence.

When the locals spotted the new arrivals, one of them immediately shouted, "Flay the beasts! Behead the beasts! Drink their blood!"

The first few of them started to run haphazardly forward, the dog also bounding toward the group of new hunters. They wielded pitchforks and knives, whatever they could bring to battle against the beasts they saw.

It seemed Einhart leaped backward, trying to keep his eyes and ears open on something more dangerous than this mob.

Adel immediately stepped forward, defending Dinah from a stabbing strike by the maddened local by putting one of his swords between the blades of the pitchfork. He then swore he heard the man say; "...her blood potent...delicious..."

Adel took this notion poorly, scowling darkly and starting to force the pitchfork up...

"Perhaps a few. Perhaps more. I can't really tell, it's a... secret." The answer is directed at Familius, and the gargoyle-thung that rests on his shoulder.

With a smile on her face, the woman radiates a certain sort of wierdness. Few can keep the kind of composure she demonstrates right now when they set foot in Yggdrasil's proximity. Genuine or no, a show of such optimism is a rare find indeed among those who hunt beasts.

"We're going now, are we."

"Aisel Kilimovich. Observer."

"I'm just coming along."

—-

As the group strolls along, Aisel listens to what the 'guide' has to say. She's sufficiently familiar with the city, but that's on the statistic front. The map, she believes, may not match the actual current layout at all considering what eldritch things have been happening in Yggdrasil. Indeed, she needs a guide.

And then the group walks right into a company of mad and mutated locals.

Things escalate quickly, and before much anything can be said, save Einhart's notion on these rabid folks, the tip of pitchforks belonging to one of them is now ramming against Adel, the hunter-nobleman. Obviously it is aimed at his lady Dinah, and obviously this is not a coincidence. Aisel also notices the guide leaping backward almost immediately and looking out for something certainly not of this rabid mob. Perhaps something worse to come.

As the pitchfork grinds against Adel's blade, Aisel stands in place and watches. She's not shocked, mind. She's perfectly calm and in control. A few madmen can't possibly terrify her as she's seen much, much worse. As is, though, she waits for her companions to take action, to see what they can do when situations call for drastic measures.

In a moment the scene erupted into violence, the maddened hunters charging with cries of monsters – ignorant of their own monstrous state. Yon had been taught that when ones Sharma or misdeeds are great you fall to a lower, bestial or demonic form from enlightenment. However, this was always framed as figurative or during another lifetime rather than so literally. Sho Yon had been standing closer to Adel and Dinah when the latter was assaulted hence also the mob.

Once a pair drew close lunge to attack the monk burst into movement, side stepping with speed and grace to arrive behind the closest. In the same movement she thrust an end of her Kun downward into a knee then turned with it strike him in the temple with great force. The stick was an extension of her body and even as she struck out it hardly seemed to move from her side. Sho Yon waited for the other man to strike, as it was better to use their own force against them.

It had not escaped her attention that both Aedra/Einhart and the ‘observer’ woman were refraining from engaging the mob – however Yon felt it was for different reasons. Nevertheless, answers could be found once fight was resolved.

Adel knew that this enemy was keeping him away from his weapons' current reach, but in a different state...! His hand shifted on his second blade, altering its state from blade to whip.

Lashing out with his razor-sharp lash, the villager tried to move back, but as a result, its neck was severed clean in half at the middle, the body falling backward. Dinah let out a gasp of shock - she had never seen Adel kill before. Yet...despite herself, she could not help herself but feel a queer sense of delight - Adel killed for her...

Johnathan truly was more than what the villagers had been prepared to deal with. His gun stunned them and blasted into their affected flesh, blasted the dog enough to disorient it and prevent it from dodging his deadly follow ups, the elder hunter's blade cutting deep. It was not long before Johnathan was bathed in the blood of these maddened men he cut so deeply into.

The monk's staff apparently cracked the maddened man's skull, damaging him enough that he was apparently down for good. The other went rushing in with a pair of knives, slashing haphazardly at the monk again and again in a frenzy.

Despite his apparent youth, Einhart did not appear stunned nor dismayed by the brutality around him - those times of his naivety had come and gone it seemed. He seemed pleased by what he saw around him, some sort of affirmation of his notions. Though Johnathan did worry him somewhat.

Yon skillfully deflected each bladed flurry at her person with surprising calm, a few steps taken backwards but far from a retreat. She waited for an opening, using her Kun to guide his thoughtless movements outwards until a gap presented itself. Sho Yon rushed into the villager and under his arms as she held her weapon firm into his forearms - it was positioned so as to effectively prevent him from reaching her. The monk used a quick leg movement to sweep his legs from under him and thus bring the staff up into his throat. The initial impact would wind him but she held firm until he struggled no more.
