Disney's Live-Action Thread

Becuase the amount of Live Action remake threads are getting cluttery, I made this thread so people could discuss all of them in one neat place. For ease of catching up, I'll post all the Live action Disney movies we have and the movies that will be coming soon.

On the topic of Disney ignoring the sequels, I don't think they do. They made a sequel preschool show that kept all of the lore of The Lion King 2 and brought back almost all of the voice cast.

Kingdom Hearts ignores the sequels because they only really care about movies, but that's a different thing entirely.

They sort of acknowledge the sequels.

Although only instance I can really think of is The Return of Jafar where we see Iago ditch Jafar and join Aladdin's group.

The title of this thread doesn’t indicate remakes specifically, so I’m gonna add this news here:

Hollywood Reporter is saying that Shaun Levy and the writer of the Goosebumps movie are doing a new live action film based on a Disney Park attraction… a restaurant. Club 33.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/disney-club-33-movie-darren-lemke-shawn-levy-1235904632/

…the story centers on Kim, a young aspiring detective living in present-day New York, who receives a mysterious invite to the highly secretive Club 33. In this case, it’s a magical and exclusive dining club that exists outside of time and space. The club’s members are the greatest and most iconic members from the past: geniuses, royalty and history-makers.

When a murder is committed moments after her arrival, the patrons look to Kim to solve it. Kim, who despite her brilliance can’t seem to get out of her own way, must rise to the occasion and find a way to capture the criminal amidst the greatest minds history has to offer.

The way Club 33 is described it's like Tomorrowland in Tomorrowland.

The article also mentions a Society of Explorers and Adventurers series and movie. This is based on the Adventurers' Club at the former Pleasure Island nightclub complex. The SEA was later brought back as background flavor for Adventureland in the parks.

I wouldn’t know myself. I haven’t seen it.

Anyway, here’s a Yesterworld video on Club 33…

And a video on the dining experience itself.

[up][up] I've seen Tomorrowland.

...It's not great? I mean, it's perfectly watchable, some humor thrown in, Brad Bird was clearly Brad Birding at his Brad Bird-iest, George Clooney had some funny quips to his name, the actual future looked pretty interesting, and like, it's an okay romp. It isn't exactly going to blow your mind or anything, it's a film that's just sorta... there... but I'm thinking Disney was wanting to be... oh so much more, amusement park ride movie, they were gunning for that money, but at the absolute most, you'll likely have more fun watching it as a drinking game, or just riffing on it... maybe having something playing in the background, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it... at least not deliberately.

Okay, how do we see this premise working? It’s been described as being not unlike Night at the Museum…

[up][up]Mostly the teen protagonist is the one I hate. But it was made during the era where they are insufferable.

Honestly, a better amusement park ride film would be Jungle Cruise. Still not an award winner, but at least with that film, I'm actually having a good bit more fun with it, actually being entertained... hell, I'm even genuinely enthralled at points, soaked in. Still nowhere near the heights of what a Disney Amusement Park Ride Movie could be, but at the very least it's fun.

[up]More power to you, honestly! As stated, I definitely have an actual good time with that one, I could see myself choosing to play it more if I'm in the mood for one of those adventurous romps.

I do wish the parks get more original IP rather than... well known IP. Does Epcot have its own film?

Not including POTC, I agree that Jungle Cruise so far is the best Disney Parks movie. It wasn't amazing or anything but it was just good fun.

[up] I figure that the upcoming Figment movie would technically fall under that category, depending on how closely tied it is to Journey Into Imagination and/or the Imagination Pavilion.

I'm kinda surprised they haven't done a film based off The Enchanted Tiki Room.

Before Jungle Cruise came out, I was starting to develop an idea for a Blizzard Beach movie. Could still go back to that though. For now, when it comes to ideas I have for Disney movies, one of the things that takes precedent is the idea I have for a live action A Night on Bald Mountain movie.

Also, a sequel to the 1998 version of The Parent Trap. I think there's a lot of potential to be had in not just doing another outright remake if you ask me—though I'd be interested to see an outright update too though.

I was thinking in terms of live action. Wouldn't be against animated though. I still maintain that people would've responded better to The Haunted Mansion 2003 if it wasn't live action.

Casting call was sent out for Anna's daughter in Freaky Friday 2 by the way that I saw on Insta. Obviously Tess and Anna will be part of the switch again, but if they're doing what I think they're doing—having the two of them; Anna's daughter and the future stepdaughter/stepsister all be part of the switch, this is gonna be pretty fun.
