Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

Well, you sometimes could do one after posting, but it's generally recommended to do one before.
Actually, it might be worth mentioning this in the Administrivia page if it isn't already.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallSo now I am confused as to why my post was closed so fast.
Sorry I confused you. I've found that when threads are opened until a wick check can be done, it's usually when there's a poorly-done wick check. But I've also seen cases of that where a thread has immediately been closed.
Just as a rule of thumb, the wick check should always be done before the TRS thread. The forum thread I linked should help with that.
I'm not sure there really is a set standard, unless the mods have some standard I am unaware of.

No its not your fault. Thank you for the help. I guess I will try again next time.

What's the difference between Animal Is the New Man and Humans Are Not the Dominant Species? They're both about humans being ruled over by another species.
Animal Is the New Man is where animals take over whether or not humans are still around. It doesn’t include situations like aliens dominating humans.

Aliens dominating humans seems to be covered by Vichy Earth though.
You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"That's not the only Humans Are Not the Dominant Species situation not covered by Animal Is the New Man, just an example off the top of my head to illustrate the difference.
The page quote, Attack on Titan, has humanity live at the mercy of odd, non-alien monsters.
I would like to know if I'm all right to make a thread for Dueling Works when a slot opens. I made Dueling Works Wick Check so I can have it pegged for misuse along with the other reasons it's on Tropes Needing TRS (the tables not working and the "Winner" column being too opinionated for Trivia).
You should be fine if you can snag the slot in time. That's always the tricky part.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallAdding "Uh-Oh" Eyes to Tropes Needing TRS. When doing a wick check on Mood Ring Eyes for the project thread, I saw it being used as a trope, when it's actually a subindex.
Do "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer and Don't Explain the Joke really need to be on Tropes Needing TRS? They're already IUEO, so sinkholes can be killed on sight. I think a cleanup thread would be more suitable for IUEO Pothole Magnets like those.
I got a rock for Halloween.
A cleanup thread for Pothole Magnets might be a good idea, although I don't really know if we need to do more than, as said, "shoot on sight".
I know this is an unpopular opinion, and very much understand others' disagreement, but I feel that Tropes Needing TRS should be locked to prevent articles without significant problems being listed. Any addition can be discussed here and then requested in the Locked Pages thread.
135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311Looking at that page again, I'd love to tackle smaller TRS issues like the "Not thriving" tropes. I like helping the wiki.

Actually not a bad idea given the number of un-TRS-able tropes in there. For example, I suggested doing the Hindsight tropes at the Wick Check to finally solve all the misuse problems, but we discovered that A. No one knows what correct use even is, and B. The only suggested solution was requiring citations for entries (which I actually don't think is a bad idea TBF.) All this, and yet the tropes are listed at Tropes Needing TRS anyway.
Also we might want to go through the "complaining" section given that Septimus has said that it's hard to tell complaining from legitimate entries.
I support a lock.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI have a different idea for hindsight tropes (I wouldn't support citations, even if I can see where people are coming from), but it'd probably be easier to discuss it in the TRS thread. Otherwise, light oppose on the lock - maybe it'll help with needing to prove issues, but it'd give more work for mods and may somehow lead to mini-TRS discussions anyway (hard for me to word this properly).

Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)I don't think any trope is "un-TRS-able." After bringing up the issue that Hindsight tropes are hard to fix, I even tried to give a possible solution (citations).
I don't support a lock. It's not a trope page or policy page. Adding stuff to that page doesn't really hurt anybody, as we can just choose to make wick checks and threads for the tropes we consider to have real issues and bring anything questionable to discussion, so why make things more difficult for the mods by forcing every single question to go through them?

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.
I agree with your reasoning for opposing a lock.

Good point. I rescind my vote.
I guess I'm gonna think now about how to TRS the Hindsight tropes. I really want to finally put an end to the misuse once and for all, but it's gonna take time. I'll see what I can think of assuming my college class does not get in the way.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI've said it before and will say it again. People need to prove something isn't worthy of TRS if they want to pull it. Sometimes the evidence is simply not in favor of what's being claimed, but that in and of itself requires evidence.
People keep complaining about things being on the page that shouldn't be, but I haven't seen anyone list what these supposed shoehorns are or why they don't need TRS.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI only recall a couple of true shoehorns on there, one of which is Balloon Belly, which was added simply for being a popular fetish. The entry says it needs a "lewdness check" which is more of a cleanup matter than an issue with the trope itself, and even then, most examples on the page don't seem to read as fetishy.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

~The Mayor of Simpleton The Trope Repair Shop page says "Note that you’ll almost certainly be asked to do a wick check if you are claiming this." Not you will need to do one before posting.
