Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

Agreed, it is a meaningless euphenism. Euphemizing uncomfortable (or "uncomfortable") terms to the point of meaninglessness is a typical PC tactic that just covers up social issues in so-called niceties that let people ignore the actual issues.
Frankly, that sort of language is more ableist than using the actual term itself.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesThat sort of thing was why my friends and I in school were more offended by being called "special" (as in "special education") than "retarded." We knew damn well what the speaker meant by the former and it was incredibly condescending.
Oh man. I loathe the term "special needs". It is very condescending, and whenever a "special needs" group is shown in media, it's always a bunch of unruly, crazy looking, out of control kids.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest times"Type A" and "Type B" personality theory is... a thing that exists and yes it's externally called that
(no idea how seriously it's taken these days), but frankly even if we were making a trope specifically about that we would want to call it something more specific.

Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.Oh, I'm sure it is, but that doesn't mean we should inflict that vagueness on the general public. Autism has similar issues these days.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesFor the record, the problem here isn't that watering down the term "OCD" is totally okay and anybody questioning it is just too PC. The problem is that the trope is heavily tied to fictional depictions of OCD so the name should probably mention OCD.
Also we're not euphemizing OCD here because the trope is not about actual OCD, and that person proposed a term that was not referring to the disorder. So that whole discussion is off topic.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. The trope is about fictional OCD, though, so renaming it after the real disorder would be euphemizing the trope name.
Hope shines brightest in the darkest timesRenaming "Super OCD"... after real OCD...? That doesn't make sense. It's already named after real OCD.
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.~Bubblepig, you'll need evidence of an issue or the mods won't approve the thread.

But how? Edit: Nevermind, I've figured it out.

"CHICKEN JOCKEY!"I don't want to jump the gun, but you'd need something like a wick check, which I told you about in ATT as well.

I tried it already. Hope it works.

"CHICKEN JOCKEY!"Oh, nice.

A wick check is done through analyzing wicks, not on-page examples. [[Administrivia/Wick Wicks]] are links to pages on this site, which you can see if you click the related button at the top. You need to check just a sample of wicks, 50 of them or so, to analyze. Repeat what you've done for the Looks Like She Is Enjoying It thread, but with the wicks found here
. You can also ask for help in this matter in the Wick Check Project thread
.
Oh, thanks. I'll go to wick check project since mine got clocked for three days. I need help with off-page proofs.
"CHICKEN JOCKEY!"
On the TRS thread I gave a response that should help a bit. I also included a link for where a wick check could go.
OP for the Super OCD question here.
For clarification, I was initially confused if Super OCD was just an overall umbrella term for any kind of character that displays any of those tendencies, as I have noticed that many tropers tend to just slap that trope on any character that might just be organized, a neat freak, etc.
EG: Would the Go-Getter Girl be put under the same umbrella as Super OCD because that character displays a lot of those tendencies? Does the Neat Freak automatically count as Super OCD because OCD characters tend to be ridiculously clean? Does the Schedule Fanatic also count as Super OCD or do tropers just have a habit of automatically assuming so?
If anything I was only asking if there really is a difference, or if it's typical to miscategorize those traits as automatically Super OCD. I do withdraw my original statement of trying to rename it since the trope itself does serve a purpose in displaying what fictional OCD is like.
I honestly think your question is more suited to trope talk.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallAnother thread with no wick check got started. ~mgolway, you need a wick check to prove misuse. This is a good place to get started.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallThread is declined, so a slot has reopened.
...that didn't take long.

I am new here but I don't understand why I was not given anytime to provide a wick check after it was requested.
You have to do the check before you open the TRS thread.
Check out the Wick Check Project thread
, who can help you do a wick check.

Also, honestly, "Type A Personality" is totally meaningless...
