Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

As noted in the Extreme Sport Excuse Plot TRS thread from 2012, Excuse Plot is a game trope. And per the 2011 TRS on Excuse Plot, non-game examples tend to become complaining about works with weak plots.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
But do you think Extreme Sport Excuse Plot isn't distinct enough from Excuse Plot?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think what Septimus is saying is that despite having "excuse plot" in the name, it's not actually a subtrope of Excuse Plot, because the latter is a thin justification for the gameplay, while ESEP is a thin justification for introducing a high-flying sport that the audience has little exposure to.

What I think is that a) Excuse Plot is distinct since it is a game trope and Extreme Sport Excuse Plot is not so you can't merge the latter into the former and b) we can't broaden Excuse Plot to cover non-game examples because then folks will use it to bitch about plots they don't like.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanExcuse Plot might need its own TRS if it's being misused for non-games.
Hell, Septimus himself just used the term
(but not the trope itself) to refer to a non-game work, so it may have potential for works where the script doesn't have as much focus as surrounding elements like fanservice, cool stunts, etc.
but I think making it less "plots I don't like" and more "the plot takes a backseat to some other appealing element," maybe with a new name, could be viable.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Something like Porn Without Plot?
...
No Plot? No Problem! is using Excuse Plot in its Fantasia example... Which is not a Video Game...

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576I'm bringing up Notable Music Videos and Notable Flash Videos for the same issue as Notable Quotables. These, however, should be kept as indexes; the goal is to dewick and cut all of their usage as a trope.
The Notable Quotables thread is almost done for anyone who wants to grab the chance for a new thread.
Uncanny Valley Hot Babes in Your Area Are Looking To Know YOU! Click Here to Sign Up for FREE! | Not quite back tbh. Don't expect much.Someone previously brought up Essential Anime as being unnecessarily subjective (since indexes aren't supposed to be subjective, which is why indexes like Sturgeons Tropes were cut while Pet-Peeve Trope was given a sectionectomy) in addition to containing Fan Myopia, so I'm wondering if it's essentially the anime equivalent to the "Notable X" pages in terms of usage.

I got a rock for Halloween. There's two more "notable" tropes on top of the two I'm making a thread for: Notable Fanfiction Archives and Music Of Note. The former can probably be cut wholesale as it's not needed, while the latter has the same issues as Authors Of Quote and Essential Anime.

Advertising Campaigns used to have "Notable" in the name before TRS changed it because There Is No Such Thing as Notability, and Notable Commercial Campaigns is still a redirect.
I got a rock for Halloween.I made a crowner and want to make a thread here where I can attach the crowner, but apparently, there's a limit of 50 threads. Is there anywhere else I can post it?
Check out my forum game: Rate the above YMMV.
What you actually want to do is make the thread first, and then make a crowner based on what was discussed on the thread.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to make a crowner until the thread has been up for three days.
Yeah, this is wayyy too pre-emptive.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI added Music Of Note and Notable Fanfiction Archives to Tropes Needing TRS. (As a side note, I also reverted a unilateral change from Commonwealth to American spelling, per American and Commonwealth Spellings.)
I got a rock for Halloween. Also, once the slot opens up, I have a quick and easy page I'd like to post a thread about: Self Propelled Barrier Of Stupidity.
I'll probably be fast asleep by the time the slot opens, so it's fine by me if you grab it instead.
EDIT: Managed to snag it anyway.

Also going to pitch in on ~Amour Le Fou's post: while anyone can make crowners, only moderators can attach crowners.

I'll wait for the current thread to end before I make the last one for Music Of Note and Essential Anime. Unlike the three in the current thread, which are partially indexes and might contain something salvageable, these are written as JFF pages, so discussing those could have too many things at once going on in the thread.
We use TRS to deal with Useful Notes pages, right? Because Lemonade Stands has no useful information and the trope part will be better covered by this TLP draft
.
There was a Project
for that, but as you can see, it's not very active.
Inverse Romantic Interest
should close soon. 1 wick left at last check, and it's cutting.

I was planning to take Extreme Sport Excuse Plot to TRS eventually after I do a wick check, but I'm thinking the problem is less complaining, and more that it's The Same, but More Specific to Excuse Plot. I'm asking here to gauge if I'm not alone in thinking that, and to determine what to list the trope under when I take it here. Is Extreme Sport Excuse Plot not dissimilar enough from Excuse Plot?
