Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

Weird question maybe, but now that my entry for Paedo Hunt is #5 in the queue I went back to look at the wick check to see if everything is in order. I noticed that one of the wicks I checked belongs to a page that has been deleted. Should I replace it for a different random wick, or should I keep it for historical purposes (I made the wick check back in September 2023)?
I don't think it's important to change it, the conclusions would be the same.
While the expansion of your OP in the TRS Queue is great, it still doesn't include any proposal of a solution. I'm thinking about a split between pedophilia is a special kind of evil and hysteria on pedophilia.

Sandbox.Intersex Allure now exists.
I finally did it.
There are some tropes that I think had issues and wanted to join in their repair threads (if they'll get any), and one of the first ones was Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me.
But to do that, I first had to do the most boring and difficult part of Tv Tropes, and that is the Wick Check.
And that's exactly what I did. For the first time, I made a true Wick Check, and I started with Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me, and compiled the results (54 wicks for this check) here: Sandbox. For Wick Checks.
You can draw your own conclusions from there, to me it's a very inconsistent usage for a trope (some examples try to explain that the shield is very good, some would work better as Special Ability Shield or Deflector Shields, and, of course, Zero Context Examples).
Because Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me has alternating between being "shields" and "shields are NOT useless", so I don't even know what's misuse and what's not.
In a wick check there should be folders to classify the different usages of a trope and add the new wicks in each one. That way you can count and make percentages of correct use/ different use, and it's easier for readers to interpret.
When I start mine, I always create the folder first before adding the wicks.
Aw here we go again... Assuming "shields are very good" is the correct usage...
Oo oo ah ahNot all wick checks are classified as correct use or misuse, sometimes it's a list of different uses.

@ animuacid: Thanks for telling me! I completely forgot to add the proposed solutions section. I also think splitting would be the best solution.
So, I think I reached a pretty good point for my Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me wick check: Sandbox. For Wick Checks.
According to that, the majority of examples (25,93% of total) explain how shields work in different game systems... so, what should we do with that?

This Is a Wiki. You can easily re-add it yourself, especially since, as Gaston said,
the queue is informal.
I feel like there's been a lot of, erm... over-eager people lately who are attempting to get things done before the threads officially get consensus. Is there anything we can do here?
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI'd suggest the trope "Pan Up to the Sky" Ending to be renamed into 'Tilt Up To The Sky Ending', as it's the correct term. (You can only pan left and right and tilt up and down the camera)
It's an already renamed trope (used to be "Look Up the Sky Ending"). I don't know if renaming tropes requires permission from an admin, or if I should ignore it because it's just a syntax mistake.
unmarked spoilers (and my curiosity) ruined my spoiler-free watchings~randomtroper89 is up next according to the Queue, but I don't see permission for others to launch the thread.

TRS is always required to rename a trope, I believe.

Yep, even if it's a mistake like that.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallWhile TRS is required to rename a trope (as stated on Trope Renaming Guidelines), Creating New Redirects doesn't require TRS and instead redirects have to be vetted by mods in this thread
.
Edit: Went ahead and made "Tilt Up to the Sky" Ending a redirect.

I got a rock for Halloween.Going back to discussion from before that, this thread is not for reporting or complaining about other users' forum activity. Use hollers or private ATT queries for that.

I got a rock for Halloween.Sorry, I wasn't intending it to be a report, more of just a general "what do" to stop such behavior across the board. Which is why I pointed out that it was happening with multiple people (and didn't even specify in post 1)

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallIf it's happening with multiple people, use a private ATT query.
I got a rock for Halloween. But again I'm not reporting people, I only pointed that out in response to the question I was asked.
I'm just trying to have a general discussion about gun-jumping, which may be more suited to Wiki Talk but is definitely not meant to be a report to the mods.
