This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is), and post the results on TRS Queue and wait your turn if a problem is present. The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread to collect evidence if you need help.
- If a wick check is too much for you, you can leave the issue at Tropes Needing TRS citing the discussion.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

We could probably do that, now that you mention those.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. So I noticed this commented-out paragraph in the editor section of Audience-Alienating Ending:
Note to Editors This is not just complaining about endings you or fans don't like. It requires an explanation of why the dislike would be apparent to, or effect its reception with, those who haven't seen the work or ending. Examples require six months since the ending in order to prove it wasn't a knee-jerk reaction and became widespread enough for the general public to hear of it.
Thing is, we already changed the definition so people outside the fandom hearing about it was no longer required. Is this a leftover of the old definition that we forgot to remove?
One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord. Most likely. That note hasn't been substantially edited since before the page history.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. Now that we again have a bunch of projects where minor redirects have low wick counts, I'm breaking out the categorical split to keep visible which overall projects are close to closing.
Fewest remaining wicks: Meddling Parents (266), Dan Browned (199), Once Acceptable Targets (156), One Hundred Percent Adoration Rating (141), Talking To Herself (54)
Fewest excl. redirects: Coitus Ensues (772), We All Live in America (443), Meddling Parents (266), Dan Browned (199), Once Acceptable Targets (156)
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailOn a different topic, I finished the wick check for Senpai/Kōhai and prepared an OP for it, so that's one less Japanese culture trope that's really a UN we have to work on.
I might work on Dan Browned and Meddling Parents in the near future since they're smallish projects (Once Acceptable Targets less so since it's part of a batch thread), but I'm currently focusing on getting over being sick, so it's not impossible that someone else will get at least one of them before I have a chance.
As for threads with more wicks than those, Relationship Voice Actor is most likely one of those projects that's more time-consuming than difficult since it was deprecated because it was determined to be meaningless like the Hey, It's that X pages, though less time-consuming than Names The Same and Nice Hat since while the wick count is fairly high, it's probably not bulletin material like those two.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.By the way I took Big Damn Heroes off the queue. If any one else wants to finish the Wick Check be my guest
Finished From Wick Check To Genre and waiting for the wick check thread to verify, but with that I'm reconsidering the "move to Trivia" suggestion and wonder what else can be done, maybe merging with its Super-Trope Follow the Leader.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupMight as well make a note here that I've done a wick check for Unacceptable Targets since that got excluded from the Acceptable Targets thread. Probably going to put it in the queue tomorrow.

I mentioned this in the Genre Turning Point thread but, you could consider YMMV / Audience Reaction as well, though a merge with Follow the Leader also seems like a valid recommendation
ETA: And I'll just add this since I mentioned possibly adding the other Tropical Island Adventure subtropes to my East Indies thread. I ended up wick checking Hula and Luaus and Welcome to the Caribbean, Mon! too and added them to my OP.

Paging ~Yindee to keep an eye out because Vanity Window's thread is about to close.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI just closed Vanity Window's thread.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Just did a wick check on All Love Is Unrequited. Not good. I'm going to hold off on adding it to the queue though since I have quite a few queue'd up and this has 3k+ wicks to get through.
Took 3D Comic Book off the queue, I think it's the low wick count is because it's a Forgotten Trope.
I'd like to apologize for all this.It might be worth adding it and Cold Cash to the Forgotten Trope index since tropes on that index are expected to have low wick counts due to their limited lifespans. The latter was featured in a Trope Report issue due to a lack of wicks (I don't think it was mentioned in this thread; it was mentioned elsewhere on the forums) and it struck me as a Forgotten Trope that wasn't indexed as such when I read the description. Either way, with Forgotten Tropes we can't really help the lack of wicks, which is why when a TRS thread was made for Determined Widow, Widow Woman, and College Widow, I removed College Widow from the thread's scope because Synchronicity pointed out that its status as a Forgotten Trope meant it should be left alone, and I ended up making what she said official.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Yeah, I had College Widow in mind too when it comes to Forgotten Tropes in TRS. We can continue discussion here.

I'd like to apologize for all this.Sent here from the overzealous cleanup thread. What exactly is the criteria for sending a trope back to TRS without requeuing? It was pointed out over there that Past Experience Nightmare has a bit of on-page misuse that was completely overlooked, and Hell Is That Noise has a ton of the same as well.
Edited by badtothebaritone on Feb 6th 2023 at 7:11:15 AM
To be very clear, Hell Is That Noise has misuse all over the wiki. It's just noticeable on subpage as well.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessHell Is That Noise's thread was also made a decade ago, and TRS standards were a bit looser during the early years of TRS, so it's possible that its thread closed without completing example cleanup. I'd be fine with someone making a new thread to add it to the IUEO index because its TRS thread already converted it into an objective trope for character reactions, and being explicitly indexed as IUEO would give us something to point to when removing out-of-universe examples.
As for Past Experience Nightmare, just go ahead and clean up misuse in on-page examples. The TRS thread was quite a bit more recent than the one for Hell Is That Noise, so the wicks are hopefully in better shape. I'm guessing what happened is that the thread focused on the wicks at the expense of on-page examples, which isn't unheard of (particularly because wicks are taken into account more so than on-page examples when focusing on closing threads, even though both matter).

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Huh, I thought Hell Is That Noise had a more recent TRS but maybe not? I might be thinking of something else...

Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessYou might be thinking of Most Annoying Sound.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. That's the one.
Well, Hell Is That Noise has been a thorn in my side for ages so I might wick check it.
As for Past Experience Nightmare, I guess I'll do the trope page. Admittedly I'm the one who did the wick cleanup when the original thread was open, however I'd always just assumed that someone cleaned the on page examples and hadn't checked until very recently.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessCan The Hero be brought to TRS (or be put in Sandbox.TRS Queue) without a wick check? It already has a TRS thread more than 10 years ago, yet the issues remain.
Graffiti WallThose issues being?

When it comes to TRS, examples can be moved to Japanese Politeness and Noble Tongue.
