Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

I might work on Alien Lunch in the near future, but I'll probably take a break from dewicking for a while. I might go back to my project of moving on-page examples for Spiritual Adaptation (which I moved to a sandbox to make it easier to keep track of them) to Spiritual Successor (since I've been taking a break from it for a while) due to the former being merged with the latter in the thread that also made the latter YMMV (as well as splitting off Creator-Driven Successor)
I skimmed through Fighting With Chucks and it has the same issues as Sai Guy and Dual Tonfas and they are all subtropes of Stock Ninja Weaponry. So I guess I'll have to expand my original queued thread for Sai Guy to include all three tropes. I should be done with both wick checks for Dual Tonfas and Fighting With Chucks in 2-3 days time.
Macron's notesIs Themed Stock Board Game supposed to be a trope? Page type says yes, but most of the "examples" are just listing works. I checked the Launch Pad draft
and it was apparently created out of the ashes of The Board Game getting re-defined, so I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this before I just decide to plop it on TRS Queue

It feels like it should be trivia.

Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallAs I said in the thread for Trope Report, I'm going to go beyond making minor changes to the changelog for this month's issue and become a proper contributor for the changelog section starting with next month's issue, since the fact that I regularly moderate TRS means I can add the changes after giving the go-ahead to make them.
I already discussed this with Macron in the mod chat since she's one of the main contributors (and made the thread that discussed bringing the newsletter back to begin with), and since she said anyone who contributed can add themselves to the credits section, I'll start doing that with next month's issue, though I'll remain uncredited for this month's issue since I just fixed some small mistakes with that issue.
I got a rock for Halloween.I just Queued Naked on Revival, and thought I'd try something. Since we can't do nested folders, it's been tricky to add a Wick Check directly to the OP. Whoever launches the thread needs to do some surgery. So, I put my OP in the wick-check sandbox, and linked it from the queue entry. Should be a single copy/paste.
Does this work, or would mods prefer that the OP be placed separately in the TRS queue?
I don't even post my OP in the queue at all. Mine are in my sandbox. The mods don't really care.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallSpeaking of OPs not being on the Queue, the next one up gave permission to launch, but I can't find an OP. I'm thinking about just copying and pasting the text on the queue's listing about it not thriving and the OP of the Trope Talk thread, because I can't think of any other way to do it without paging the OP.
I got a rock for Halloween. Also speaking of OP, Sliding Bike Stop and Staring Through The Sword are coming soon and don't have one.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupPaging ~Asterlix since they're up next in the Queue, and I can't find their OP to post it.

They don't need to post an OP on the queue if they don't give permission for others to launch the thread.
Regarding the lack of nested folders confounding the ability to add a usage check to the OP, for the thread I added recently I just used pseudo-markup to mark the end of the folder with the idea that whoever creates the actual thread can fix it.
I don't see the point of nested folders, wick checks should preferably be in own sandboxes.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThe sandbox thing is just something people have been doing because that's how War Jay does hers haha. People don't have to do it that way but it makes things easier when it comes to doing the actual check.

Macron's notesFunny how individual tropers set an example like that. When I started doing wick checks I used/still use this formatting:
Why? (reason)
Wicks checked: x/x
I've noticed other tropers using this formatting as well. I don't know if I started it, but it's interesting to see this formatting be put in place by others.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI post my OP in the queue page despite not giving the "launch without me" perms just because it's easy for me to locate there.
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker Mail
I used to do that back when I wanted to be the one to launch my threads. Now that I let other people launch my threads (which I started doing because I was worried I'd hold everyone up/lose a slot if I didn't, as I'm not always in an easy place to launch) it conveniently allows potential launchers to find the OP, so it worked out in the end anyway.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI used to launch threads on my own, but I work now and I don't want people to wait for me for 8+ hours.
Macron's notesi put my thread reasons in the folder title and i noticed a few other folks doing that after i did it, where nobody was doing it before
BTW, speaking of wick checks, ~Randomtroper89 and ~bwburke94, out of curiosity, when do you plan to finish yours for Horrible Judge of Character and Short Run in Peru respectively? Your slots on the TRS queue for those tropes note that the wick checks aren't done, and they're currently 18 and 19 on the queue, again, repectively.
My troper wallLooks like this former cult leader still has it in her

Absolutely, it is almost finished
EDIT: Now it is finished

Short Run in Peru is incoming. I initially held it back a few weeks to focus on other projects.
2025: the year it all ends? Before wick checking...
What can be done with Man of a Thousand Voices aside making it Trivia?
As no example is a production of one work, it may have a problem with Real Life Troping, but limiting it to in-same-work would be Acting for Two.
