Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

Since you're proposing a trope redefine and split it would need to go through the formal TRS process to ensure there's consensus on that plan of action. So right now, you should do a wick check (of off page uses of the trope) to confirm that the misuse is happening in the way you believe it to be. And then when a slot opens up, you can make your case for the changes
Oh crap, I don't have time this month. I'll circle back later to figure out the procedure. Can I leave this thread? Or maybe put it in a sandbox somewhere so I don't forget??

~Emila Skytracker made you a wick check page: Almighty Dollar Wick Check!
Vehicle-Based Characterization | Grief-Induced Split | Locker MailI'm doing some TNTRS cleanup right now and noticed this entry:
- Spell My Name With An S: Used for a mixture of varying official spellings and differing fan spellings of names from works, particularly from works originally in a language that doesn't use the Latin alphabet (such as Japanese). Since it's an objective trope, it would ideally be used for official spellings only (i.e., official materials giving different spellings of the same name at different points). Fan spellings would probably be a better fit for a separate Audience Reaction. It also tends to be misused for any unusual spellings, even when applied to real-life individuals where there is only one correct spelling for a particular person. There was an attempt at a TRS thread to clean up fan spellings, but it was locked in a New Year's purge during the cleanup phase. Note that accidental fan spellings go under Viewer Name Confusion, which wasn't launched until after the previous Spell My Name With An S TRS thread was closed.
Since it was locked in the cleanup phase, couldn't we just spin it off into a cleanup thread or add it to TRS Wick Cleaning?
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallIf nothing major needs to be done to Spell My Name With An S, then we can spin off a clean up thread and/or add it to Wick Cleaning Projects like you suggested.
Macron's notesThere's definitely more cleanup necessary, because my hacksaw method didn't work.
2025: the year it all ends?I've seen a few YMMV pages for Friday Night Funkin' Game Mods feature Common Crossover despite not being a YMMV category. Furthermore, it seems to be mis-interpreted as a "common crossover theme" instead of "two IP's worlds/fandoms meshing well enough for many fanmade crossovers to exist". From The CC page...
This here from Indie Cross for example:
- Common Crossover: The Undertale based songs, namely "Bonedoggle", are prone to have the characters who are singing swapped out for others, usually with different Undertale AUs. One of the more popular instances is a cover of "Bonedoggle" where the Underswap versions of Sans and Papyrus sing against Saturday Night Swappin' Girlfriend, with the Undertale motifs swapped for Underswap’s versions of the tracks.
Any thoughts about this?
"I know we'll make it cause somehow, the universe is fun now!" ~SanaThrough the Eyes of Madness has (aside from the inevitable ZCE issues) a lot of misuse on its page. The description states that there can be no cuts to the “real” world. Yet quite a few examples have an explicitly revealed reality at the end, like Joker (2019). Even more are just explicitly cutaway gags of characters hallucinating, like MLAATR (the former pic), MST3K, TF2, or the pretentiously-written Pooh's Grand Adventure “example”.
I don’t know whether it warrants TRS or just a thorough scrubbing.

It may need TRS. I didn't even know that that was the meaning.
Names to Know in Anime's thread is done, so paging ~Piterpicher.
I got a rock for Halloween.Heads up, Hollywood Nerd has just 68 wicks left, so if anyone wants to knock out an easy-to-finish project that one's waiting for you.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI cleaned up the rest, so the thread is (finally) done. Can be closed
Quick Question, is there a reason why Sandbox.Loads And Loads Of Characters is still around or is it just a leftover from the TRS thread?
It's just that no one cutlisted it yet. I'll cut it now.
EDIT: I think it was supposed to remade into another page? Don't have time to check the thread but I'll hold off cutting for now.

Thanks a ton amathieu!
no ty! and everyone else who helped out. i opened that thread a year ago and it had been looming over me ever since
Thanks! I know the feeling of looming threads—I still have to work on the Unintentional Period Piece wicks from the thread I started back in May 2021, before my hiatus from the site.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallSince Protagonist-Centered Morality clean up efforts have redirected to an LTP projects thread (here
, pinging ~nw09 now that there's a spot open.
~magnumtropus I assume the duplicate Flagship Franchise in the queue is a mistake? If so can I remove the one in the main queue?
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallThe entry in the queue was there prior. I only put it under the "Threads requiring Wick Checks" header because I wanted help finishing the Wick Check before the thread was made.
It's halfway done, and I have created folders for the various types of wicks. A combo of being busy IRL and my laptop going slow has made it difficult for me to finish the check
Keep the one under the main queue
Stumbled upon Scale of Scientific Sins. I have no clue what it's meant to be, but I think it might just be a big pile of subtropes under one umbrella.
TRS Wick CleaningIt's a Sliding Scale-y trope? Not sure how a sliding differs from no slide.

Well a slot's about to open so do you have the check ready?
I made magnumtropus's Flagship Franchise thread since I closed Dueling Works' thread in favor of a cleanup thread.
I got a rock for Halloween.

Thanks Tropers/amathieu13. After noodling on this awhile, I think that the easiest thing to do would be to tweak the writing on the Trope page to say "religion" rather than "deity". Some of the original examples said religion, and somehow the Trope morphed into deity (my fault).
If we rename the trope, then we need two tropes, one about deities, and the other about money worship. Whereas "money religion" covers both concepts. Tweaking the Trope's language (and crosswicks) is easier than creating a new trope plus changing the current name. I guess I should move this to "Short Term Repair"?
