Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

With Everythings Better With Cows under cleanup I'm wondering if the other Everythings Better With X tropes should get a look at for similar issues?
I already have two projects in the queue, so I wouldn't be able to put effort into it for a while.
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsYes, there's some tropes in that family that need to get looked at. There's already a long term project for them here
that's been inactive for a few years.

Macron's notes
NGL it's both funny and disheartening to see the same convo that was had in the cows thread and the associated Trope Talk thread being had in that thread...from seven years ago. Sigh...maybe this time, it'll stick.

Also, while I know normally batch TRS threads are frowned upon, would it be smart to handle Static Character and Dynamic Character in one TRS thread? They are counterparts to each other after all.
Static Character doesn't have the same "redundant in terms of use" case as Dynamic Character, but it's still an omnipresent trope that's just "characters who avert Character Development", which is arguably even less tropeworthy than Dynamic Character.

"Grandmaster Combat, son!"We do handle closely related tropes together, they just require another wick check.

I wasn't sure if either if these even need wick checks, as by definition alone, one is just "character who undergoes character developmet", and the other is "character who does not undergo character development".
They're both Omnipresent Tropes, although not filed as such, so I wasn't sure if a wick check would even really be needed if the issue is the definition making them redundant with Character Development.
"Grandmaster Combat, son!"Updated the queue to say that while I specifically would like to launch Eight Deadly Words (as I want to be more directly involved with that discussion), Abandonware can be safely launched without me provided I am credited. This is because Abandonware isn't really that big a problem trope, it just needs a Trivia move IMO and not launching the thread myself isn't really a big deal for me.
Just wanted to put this here to elaborate on what I put on the queue.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper Wall
I'll make the Abandonware thread if nobody else is online when the slot it'll take gets freed up. I was the one who proposed moving it to Trivia to begin with since it's related to Keep Circulating the Tapes, which is already Trivia, since both refer works being out of circulation.
Heads up, Skunk Stripe is pretty much done, so paging ~MacronNotes who is next on the queue.
Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallPaging ~The Mayor of Simpleton because I closed the Roguelike thread because all it required was a few tweaks to the description, since its definition was expanded and no wick cleanup was needed.
I got a rock for Halloween.EDIT: NVM launched it

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI would say the edits made to the Roguelike page don't really address the problem of it being focused on traditional roguelikes, since it still refers heavily to tropes that are very specific to old-school dungeon crawlers and not to the modern conception of the roguelike genre, which I believe is what we agreed upon in the TRS thread (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=1649149190059727300)
.
I think I can rewrite the page to be more encompassing of the genre as a whole (and also more readable), I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet. I'll go ahead and make those changes at some point.
If all it needs is further rewrite, you can take as much time as you need and use the help of Trope Description Improvement thread. Since it only describes the genre and the decision isn't affecting the wicks, it's no longer a TRS issue.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupYes, go ahead and rewrite Roguelike if my changes weren't sufficient. You can take it to the Trope Description Improvement Drive if you think that's necessary, but you aren't obligated to in this case since the description changes were decided on by TRS consensus already.

Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI made the thread right as you pinged me, so we're good here.
I got a rock for Halloween.
I saw that, no worries.
I'd like to nominate Best Known for the Fanservice as in serious need of cleanup. The whole thing is a mess of many different things:
- the closest match to the trope: works that probably would have fallen out of obscurity except for the risque part that is the only thing people remember. (example: The Brown Bunny)
- works that have extremely well-known risque stuff that does tend to be the most common reference point people have, but that are also extremely well-known in their own right (example: Basic Instinct, Lady Chatterley's Lover)
- works that have well-known risque stuff, but that is by no means the best-known thing about it. (example: Final Fantasy VII, Madonna)
- works where a lot of the promo or media coverage did focus on the sexual content, but where that died down when it came out (example: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)
- works that just happen to contain risqueness and/or attractive people, which may or may not even be intended as fanservice. Often takes the form of "While this is a beloved work in its own right, it also has this one naughty bit." (example: Twin Peaks, Dexter's Laboratory)
- related to the above, Fan Myopia except for horniness. People seizing on an excuse to e-ogle someone or something, often via entries that take the form of "Clearly the only thing that anyone remembers about [insert thing that people do in fact remember for other things] is [insert one-handed typing]." This often, but not always, takes the form of Male Gaze. A few examples:
- "The Bring It On films are known for having some beautiful teen actresses in form-fitting cheerleading outfits. Notably, the first film has Kirsten Dunst and Eliza Dushku. People tend to forget that the movies actually treat cheerleading as a serious and competitive athletic pursuit."
- "2 Broke Girls: The amount of people who just watch the show for Kat Dennings and/or Beth Behrs is not insubstantial."
- "Metroid: Samus Is a Girl, and when she's not in her Power Suit, she's in her famous light blue skin-tight Zero Suit that really acentuates her figure."
- "Do you remember Dennis Kucinich or anything about his politics when he ran for the 2008 Democratic nomination for the presidency of the United States? How about the six-foot-tall redhead 30 years his junior that was his wife?" (yes, this also has a Real Life section)
^if you want to open a thread, you have to do a wick check to confirm that there is an issue to be solved. See How to Do a Wick Check for guidance. From your post, it seems like you've already done some of a wick check so it shouldn't be too hard to reach the 50 wicks or post your findings in a sandbox
Once you have that, you can either add yourself to TRS Queue and wait for a slot to open up or you can prowl the Repair Shop and snag an opening when one becomes available. With the queue, you will definitely manage to grab a slot since someone will ping you when your name comes up, but it will be some time. With the waiting on your own, it is possible to get a slot earlier, but not at all assured since slots become available at any time.

I was thinking about bringing in Corpsing but I'm not sure. It's not that it's being misused, just that I don't think anyone knows what namespace it's supposed to go on. It's listed on Main as a trope, but it gets a lot of usage in Trivia (I think that makes sense), Characters (which makes less sense), and Creator (which does make sense).
Is this the kind of thing for TRS or should it be done in Trope Talk or...?
CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floors

Acceptable Targets only became YMMV because a minuscule amount of TRS posters saw that Unacceptable Targets is YMMV and decided Acceptable Targets should be too, then made it YMMV on their own (which would be considered unilateral these days). They didn't bother to check how Acceptable Targets is being used relative to Unacceptable Targets (by which I mean there was no wick check).
Here's the thread.
Anyway, I think it should be classified as objective (but not IUEO) and NRLEP, because there's nothing subjective about a work treating a subject as an acceptable target, and being NRLEP (which it already is) would limit it to examples from works anyway.
