Before making or posting in a thread, read the Trope Repairing Guidelines to see whether a thread you're considering making actually should be made, as well as what is and isn't allowed in an open thread.
This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is). The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread
to collect evidence if you need help.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

That, or Dedication is misplaced. Or maybe In Memoriam is.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallDoes merging Game Show Tropes into Game Show require a wick check? I can safely see that all Series/ wicks are just potholed section headers.
TroperWall / WikiMagic Cleanup
I personally don't think it's necessary, because it's an index and thus shouldn't have those wicks to begin with. The same was true of when Trying To Catch Me Fighting Dirty was renamed to This Index Fights Dirty because it was frequently misused as a trope (in place of Combat Pragmatist).
I don't think so. Not sure what we would be checking for anyways. If we decide to merge those two, then I guess we could merge Reality TV Tropes and Reality TV? We have several Genre Tropes indexes though so I don't think it's that out of place.
We could just clean the wicks and we don't need TRS for that.

Macron's notesIf we can skip threading and just copy the indexes to their respective genre pages where applicable, that would be nice, though quite informal. Maybe Short-Term?
e: Don't think there's a way to wick clean without un-troping first. If the merge needs a discussion, I'll just plug it to the queue.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupGah. I've been meaning to clean up the soft split game show pages — the reason those wicks are there — and keep putting it off. I see no issue in separating the medium/genre with tropes found in the medium/genre right now. Such a change will affect a lot of other pages.
The more I think of it the more I feel discouraged about doing anything with X Tropes indexes. I think at least the wicks should be cleared and game shows tropes be sorted.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWell, a project that changes the page instead of just changing the wicks would have to go through TRS, as with other Main/ indexes.
If you'd rather start a thread to simply dewick the indexes while leaving the pages alone, taking it to Short-Term Projects would be fine.
I got a rock for Halloween. The description for White Gangbangers reads like chairs, giving no in-story reason for "white gang member(s)" other than "proportionally, white neighborhoods will likely have them". Is that a tropeworthiness problem or a description problem?
The description seems to hint that it's a way of avoiding Unfortunate Implication, but it feels like the assumption that gangs will be black and/or Latino is the actual tropeworthy thing.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Part of the problem is the lack of evidence for "connected to the work", and another is that the dedication usually indicates death as part of the dedication, by using words like "memory of" or "1953-2019". If I could get my other TRS threads cleaned up, I'd start one based on merging the two since I see so many wicks getting them mixed up and duplicated. I used to want to remove IM from trivia, but now I just want them merged.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.By the way, ~hawthorn, your Roguelike OP is enormously large. Consider moving some parts of it to Sandbox.Roguelike and Sandbox.Roguelite (if would also let you use folders for subsections and would be easier to edit in the future). In TRS we're looking for how the current examples are used and suggestions what to do with them, how the pages should look that is something that comes up later. Also the queue has turned into an index because the work examples are under the [index] wrapper.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupAh, thanks for that. I've moved the drafts to sandbox pages as suggested.
Human Mom, Non-Human Dad's thread is done, so paging ~MacronNotes.
I got a rock for Halloween.I am aware that I'm next in the queue, but there's not as much feedback in Trope Talk as I am hoping. Feel free to ping the ones next in line for the time being.
I'll keep that in mind. If I'm the one who frees up the next slot, I might make the thread listed after yours myself since the OP's writer gave permission for others to use it, and then I'll ping them to the thread after it's posted.
A slot was freed up, so I made Azorius 24's Obligatory War Crime Scene thread since they were next in line and gave permission for someone else to make it.
I got a rock for Halloween.I closed the Mondegreen thread because the definition-only page's wicks were cleaned, and because I learned from another mod that the sponsor of the two pending drafts is suspended from TLP, so I made Synchronicity's Butterfly Knife thread since she gave permission for others to make it. (I guess that's two free-to-use threads for the price of one.)

I got a rock for Halloween.Video Collage's thread is done, so paging ~nw09 since they're up next. I'll give them a while to respond because it's 3:22 AM where I live (I have a cold and that's messing with my sleep schedule); if they don't respond by 12 PM CDT and nobody else takes the slot, I'll page The Mayor of Simpleton, who's listed ater nw09.
I got a rock for Halloween. Finally got around to writing my OP for Villainous Aromantic Asexual (it's at my personal sandbox if anyone wants to check, so just noting that I added myself to the queue.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Personally, I'd note how Celibate Hero and Villainous Aromantic Asexual reference each other in their Playing With pages, because being a play on another trope makes ideas more tropeworthy?

Disambig Needed: Help with those issues! tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13324299140A37493800&page=24#comment-576I think I'm ready to tackle TRS'es again, starting with Adjusting Your Glasses since I'll wrap the check up in a few hours.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupMy attempt to make a discussion in Trope Talk unfortunately barely amounted to anything. I suppose I'm ready to bring Standard Snippet here as soon as a thread opens.

If I were to guess (not necessarily an agreement) you would have to know the person the work is dedicated to is both (a) dead and (b) connected to the work in some way. Both are behind-the-scenes info.
