Wow, I thought europe "hated" anything that wasn't just sports.
and by "hate" I mean "sells the worst out of the three regions, always"
But that might be my twisted perception of how niche anything "nerd" or "weird" is around here.
It's doing rather well in Europe. And it's not like it did bad in America. As long as Nintendo is treating it like a smaller end mid-tier series and not Pokemon-lite, they shouldn't be disappointed with its western performance.
Apparently Yokai Watch 2 sold below 50K in the US in October according to NPD. Looks like Europe might be our only hope of getting any more Yokai Watch games.

The European release date of Yokai Watch 2 has been announced. It's April 7th.
Oh hi USApyon.
I played the first game after influence from the speedrun at RPG Limit Break 2016 and I should say i thoroughly enjoyed it, and I wonder why more people haven't picked it up yet. Maybe kids might find it too hard? I can see how they can find difficulty in multitasking the more hectic boss battles.
Do we still have a chance of getting YW 3 localized? I'm interested in playing as Inaho (or whatever name they give her later).
A sign of things to come?
Depends on how well Yokai Watch 2 does in Europe. Speaking of that, Yokai Watch 2 just came out in Europe!
They had better! It's a fun and challenging, if overlooked (outside Japan) game.
I actually just borrowed YW 1 from my girlfriend, and I returned it to her after defeating the kamameshi bowl bonus boss with (clockwise from left) Pinkipoo, Baddinyan, Venoct, Dragon Lord, Betterfly and Frostail, lowest level 67.
The third version of Yokai Watch 2 is coming to America! it's called Psychic Specters.
Miitopia is also coming out XD
Aw, man! Looks like Inaho will be delayed even more now...

Yokai Watch is getting a reboot in an attempt to appeal to both kids and adults, that's a mix of the series mainstay humor and a horror aspect more true to yokai myths.
This site has some pages showing the light and dark forms for reboot Jibanyan, and has some marketing copy for the new movie. The Twitter it links to has concept sketches for the new female character.

Is this a reboot? Last I heard this was a one-off thing...
Hm...color me intrigued. Interested in seeing where they go with this.
Also, looks like there's a live-action movie coming as well. Seems interesting.
It's a movie that seems to be setting up some new features in whatever's the next game. Plot's a bit darker, protagonists are a bit older
maybe not a reboot, per say, but they're trying a slightly different approach with the series.
Yeah I did a bit of digging and apparently the movie and game are set 30 years after the third game and has a higher focus on horror than the first three. At least I'm assuming that's the case based off the translation of story details I found here. I could be misunderstanding though. I was mistaking this for the Dark Yoka Watch AU that was revealed back in January.

Apologies for the necro, but today's Nintendo Direct revealed some Yo-Kai Watch 2 information.
The "Oni Evolution Update" can be downloaded for free tomorrow if you already own a copy of Bony Spirits or Fleshy Souls. From what I can gather, this update gives you:
This video covers what will be in the update:
I'm skipping over the next game because I brought Boney Spirits. I assumed they wouldn't release the third version. If I'd known...
This makes me ambivalent to buy 3 when it comes out. I want the third version because Katie's in it. I wonder if that'll affect sales amongst adults.
Katie's back? Neat! I thought she was gone forever as a protagonist.
Even though I'm more interested in Inaho right now, it's good for her fans.
I just got 2 Psychic Specters (after skipping Ganso and Honke of course). Now watch me post periodically here, though I may decide to devote this weekend to finishing Ever Oasis so I can focus on this, that is.

So what's going on with this franchise in Japan? Any news?
Well, Busters/Blasters 2 is coming out December. There's a mobile port of the first game that might come out this decade. Other than that I'm not sure if Level 5 has any idea what to do anymore.
This is an interesting article. http://www.siliconera.com/2017/05/11/rise-fall-yo-kai-watch-boom-took-japan-storm/
Tokyosarus had a similar video a few months ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOz1n7lA4Kg
Yokai Watch is going through something comparable to Pokemon circa 2000-2004. All fads die, after all. I'm worried that Level 5 will just abandon the series once it stops making money. I remember Inazuma Eleven was huge but then it just disappeared one day.
Fyi, Katie's only available in one portion of Yokai Watch Sukiyaki 3. You're still forced to play as Nate and Inaho (she seriously has no English name yet?).
Noooooooooooo~ well actually I don't mind, Inaho is the new cool thing right now.
So I've just started on Yokai Watch 2 Psychics and since it's a direct sequel to the first... there's the usual Bag of Spilling plotholes like where did all the medals from the first game go? Where did the protagonist keep all the $10,000.0 / 100,000 yen they had and lost it?
So first episode late arrival spoilers, that watch is kidnapped and seemingly retgone, I pick Soul Donuts (coz Dark Souls) and a mysterious figure my girlfriend is calling Shadar sold Katie a new watch, which exploded, so I nicknamed that watch "Samsung" while singing that fun, whiny, emo Celine Dion song about memories returning.
I love how they redid Jibanyan truck cutscene with new lines, and new non-QTE progress bar (but it would've been funny if Level-5 made it an unwinnable QTE lol). After some more explosions, Jibanyan moves into the bedroom, and I immediately dumped Whisper as companion in favor of that new janitor yokai I just met (Brushido), with an adorable HOW DARE YOU graphic.
Later on I get a WHO'S THAT POKEMON signpost. Wow Level-5, are you really expecting kids to actually know the answer to it without looking on the internet? Of course, since I played the first game, some months ago, it was obviously Hungramps.
Pretty soon Eddie's new Mega Watch got stolen by a crow, it fell on Walkappa (which I am kinda disappointed he isn't recruited right there,) and after chasing the watch across town and into the sewers, we befriended a sweaty sumo wrestler.
This all makes sense in context, I'm sure.

Those signposts are the worst. I'm lucky that I write down the yokai I have. The games need a way to tell if you've already befriended a yokai, like Pokemon does.
