So first Shiggy fades into a more background role, then we lose Iwata, then Reggie retires? All around the time the Switch more or less revitalizes the company, and a lot of new faces start entering prominence?

Feels like Nintendo's done the phoenix thing, died and been reborn. This new Nintendo is off to a good start at least.

In fairness Shiggy fading to the background may not be the worst possible thing as while he still makes good games his approach may have been Fair for Its Day.

Probably some roundabout way of saying he prefers to make games with limited stories?

That’s been circling since Super Mario Galaxy 2 was less grand in scale than the first one’s plot.

He wasn't the only reason Paper Mario's been on the decline, but Shiggy has major Protection from Editors. Too much reverence for him has led to nobody challenging his ideas.

Notably Super Mario Odyssey was made almost completely by the "New" Nintendo and it has a ton of elements that wouldn't make it in otherwise, like Pauline coming back.

I'm going to say this: Miyamoto isn't leaving Nintendo until he can't create anymore.

Although, he's likely only going to handle the movies, themeparks, and probably a pet game or two before he actually retires, which likely won't be after the Illumination Mario movie comes out at the earliest.

Man, that's just going to be a sad day when Miyamoto can't design games anymore. Although I guess that's already happening unless he was the head honcho for Odyssey?

I know nothing definitive, but I've heard that Miyamoto's role in 'ruining Paper Mario' is perhaps somewhat exaggerated. As in, he gave some advice and the developers took it too far.

I would not blame him one bit if he was getting burned out. The man's been being wrung dry for ideas for almost as long as I've been alive.

The last game he directed was a Mario Paint spinoff back in '99, and the last game he was a designer for was 2011's Steel Diver, and he'd sporadically designed games even prior to it.

Mostly he's just helped produce titles.

I mean, Koizumi has apparently been rebelling against Shiggy's design philosophy for years behind the scenes, literally sneaking plots and good characters into Majora's Mask, Link's Awakening and Super Mario Galaxy under Miyamoto's nose. And he's now the head of their development division, was the producer of Mario Odyssey, and is the guy who hosts the Nintendo Directs.

There's nothing wrong with the gameplay is important part of Miyamoto's philosophy. It's just his insistence that story be non-existent, or removed even when it doesn't have to be.

Galaxy's story was great, and didn't harm the gameplay, so there was no reason to tone it back for Galaxy 2, but Miyamoto still demanded it.

I think he's one of those dudes who's so set in his ways that it's hard to adapt, especially when his old methods worked pretty well. After all, why re-invent the wheel right?

That being said, it doesn't mean you can give the wheel a few modifications too.

Xbox and Nintendo are collaboratinn: Xbox games are coming to the Switch

Over the last few weeks, rumours have become increasingly prominent: are Nintendo and Xbox really at the point of working together? This is a question we at jeuxvideo.com have been pondering for the last two months, and for which we now have an answer: yes, Nintendo and Xbox will be working together in the future. This is a surprising reconciliation, which will not be without consequences.

It all started a few weeks ago, when the Game Developer Conference 2019 program appeared on the Internet. It's the title of once conference which piqued the interested of certain industry observers: " Xbox Live: Growing & Engaging Your Gaming Community Across Platforms (Presented by Microsoft)". The event, aimed at game industry professionals, will be where Xbox unveils their new development kit, thanks to which it will be possible to connect iOS, Android, and also Switch players with Xbox and PC players. This will be done through the intermediary of Xbox Live, Xbox's online service, which will allow players to keep their gamertag and thus their profile across all these machines.

Ori and Cuphead are coming to Switch

[Cuphead is sure to be a big success on Switch]

Several surprising rumours we heard in recent weeks have now been proven. Xbox and Nintendo management have met regularly, notable in the United States since Xbox and Nintendo of America are both based in Redmond. Talks are still ongoing, but several agreements have already been reached. First of all is the upcoming arrival of Xbox games on Nintendo's little console. This has already happened, when the Japanese manufacturer recently announced that Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice would come to the Switch; according to our information, it will soon be followed by Cuphead and Ori and the Blind Forest.

This will be supported by major Xbox licenses... facilitated by Game Pass

[Master Chief on Switch? It's a possibility]

But that's not all - thanks to our sources, we have identified even bigger games than Cuphead and Ori that will be making the jump; two of them told us that at least one of the holy trinity literally triangle d'or, golden triangle; I'm pretty sure this is a figure of speech which translated best as holy trinity of Halo/Gears of War/Forza is being seriously considered. We don't know exactly which one, or even which one it will ultimately be, but this is currently a topic of discussion between Xbox and Nintendo. This means there are multiple possibilities: ports of the current games, or the Xbox 360 instalments (possibly augmented by the Switch's unique technology), exclusive spinoffs... Furthermore, we were informed that Rare games could also appear on the Switch, but a final decision on that has not yet been made. We obviousy think this discussion is pointing to Rare Replay, a collection of old games that have already been released on Nintendo consoles. Recall that prior to their acrimonious sepration, Rare and Nintendo had been partners for about 10 years and that for many players, the two companies are linked to many happy memories.

Going forward, certain Xbox games could become playable on Switch, via Xbox Game Pass and xCloud, the Xbox's steaming system. According to our information, certain games will be available this year.

It should be noted that in all our investigations, there was never any question of Scalebound, which has recently resurfaced, and that was a big surprise. If, as seems likely, we don't get a Switch port of Hideki Kamiya's game, last seen at Gamescon 2016, it's certainly possible that certain ideas used in Scalebound will be reused in a new, Switch-exclusive game.

A Logical strategy

When you get right down to it, these revelations are hardly surprising, because in the end Xbox wants maximum support for their titles. Selling consoles actually brings in very little money compared to selling digital games, Xbox Live, and Xbox Game Pass. In porting their services and brand to other platforms, beginning with the super-popular Nintendo Switch, and also iOS and Android, Phil Spencer and his team are ensuring that they reach literally touch a much, much bigger audience. Especially if in the meantime, the American giant will continue to produce their own living room consoles so as not to lose their core audience.

As to whether Nintendo games could appear on Xbox consoles, that question remains open; our sources declined to answer that question, which means the answer is not definitively "No". Recall that last December, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa said that Nintendo would be reconsidering their concept of a games console, there is definitely something to think about.

We should learn more in the coming weeks, but we'll also keep an eye on Xbox at E3 2019, where according to our information something big will happen. literally he Xbox will play big things

We contacted Xbox France and Nintendo France about this story, but both declined to comment.
