The suggestion is alright; something else that could work is combining the current with a pic of the actual boss he fights after that part.
Here's a pic of the boss that follows. It could work, but it'll need a caption to explain that each tick of the rightmost lifebar is another full lifebar for the boss
I think showing the boss undermines the "suspicious".
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. Is there any good example of a room full of stuff in front of a foreboding door that looks boss-ish?
May I offer an alternate suggestion? Taken from the classic DOOM game:
With a caption something like: "Why would I need all those boxes of rockets unless... oh yeah, that's why."
The blurry image is because this was a relatively low-res game. That's the best image you're likely to get.

Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMI think they look rather disjointed. The second doesn't look like it's actually in the game, so the connection is lacking.
Check out my fanfiction! That's because it isn't. I found it too hard to get a clean image while actually playing so I used an image I extracted from the game file. But if that's the only problem you see, I could probably "fake" a background with more work.
Absent-minded professor and Neverwinter Nights DMI think the current is much clearer that those are power-ups and that's a lot of them.
Maybe the caption should be different (mention that's a sign that a boss is coming up?), but actually showing the boss is unnecessary and likely to make the image look worse.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I kind of agree. The current is fine. The trope is about expecting something difficult coming up, or expecting to actually need everything you're given. Just showing a boss won't necessarily show it's a difficult boss anyway.
Check out my fanfiction!I'd say that in this case, Nothing Is Scarier. Whatever we show of the boss (or whatever else comes next, as it's not limited to bosses) is likely to be disappointing compared to what readers can imagine.
As far as the powerups are concerned, I think the current image is just fine. I don't see the need for any changes here.

I say Keep the current. It works well enough (not pull-worthy), and is way better than any of the suggestions given here so far. Caption could be improved but we do have a separate thread for it.
Clock is set.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanKeep the current. The point here is that the excess of power-ups is suspicious. Whatever comes after that is not really relevant.
"Yeah, it's a shame. Here we are in an underground cave with all these lasers, and instead of having a rave we're using it for evil."for keeping it.
The clock is up and the consensus is to keep the current, so I'll tag the page accordingly. Locking up.
The current image is of Mega Man in a room full of lives, energy tanks, and health packs, which is fine if you are a gamer. For non-gamers, the image alone, without the inclusion of text and the youtube link to explain it even more, is pointless, as it shows no indication as to why that is specific.
I would suggest replacing that whole thing with the bottom two panels of this webcomic, as the image itself shows the items in general, a boss door, and it stating to be a boss battle in the image itself:

As for putting a link itself to the image, it would redirect to the Video Game/Plok page (since the Webcomic is part of that page to begin with).
