Samantha shrugged. "At least you seem to be wide awake now. It'd be a little disappointing if you dozed off in the middle of our duel, now wouldn't it?"

She flashed an impish grin for a second before taking a few more bites of her food. She seemed to be making a considerable effort to remain neat. "Chances are you got more sleep than I did, anyway. When I got up it was still dark outside. Nothing unusual for me, however. Given the life I lead, it's actually more convenient than anything."

Eliza post later for when I have a proper keyboard.

Qrlil shifted into an uneasy posture, swaying back and forth slightly as she stood. "I don't like the idea of killing anyone" - though from what Angua has said I must admit that I don't think OSI agents would be much of a loss to the world - "but I do not entirely like the idea of a plan that is dependent entirely on avoiding confrontation. Not that I like the idea of confrontation, but a plan should have measures in place for things to go wrong."

Not that anything can ever be entirely anticipated, of course. She sighed.

"You are probably right about wanting to avoid attention," she continued, "but I still think that I should try and distract official attention by trying to open 'negotiations'. I think I would be much more suited for it then sneaking around restricted areas anyway."

She turned to look at Zerrimus. "What do you plan to ask for in the supply drop? I might - and I do mean might, I did not anticipate anything like this - have some equivalent things here already."

"You're sure?" Garkin said in response to both the suggestion about a distraction and the question about the supplies. "I'm thinking things like non-lethal weapons, tools for opening doors and disabling surveillance, encrypted comm-units, maybe some better climbing equipment..." He scratched his cheek. "A combat harness would've been nice too, but that's not exactly discreet."

[HOTEL FANTASTIQUE-PENTHOUSE>DINING ROOM]

Joshua located Kyana's table and sat across from her without delay. "I imagine I look somewhat different." Joshua said to Kyana as he settled. "A description of me is likely all over the media by now." After a moment of thinking with his fist to his chest, he added, "Or maybe they've been careful enough at the Spire to stay as quiet about it as possible; A complete stranger slipping through a locked door doesn't exactly boast of magnificent security."

At a table near them, Joshua noticed a group of five. Three of them were dressed in what seemed like ninja gear, though its possible purpose of stealth would've been defeated by the flamboyant appearance.

[CLARKE HOSPITAL-CAFETERIA]

Lara idly watched a boy, who looked like twelve, fill his plate. The tractor-beam he seemed to use to take the food seemed a bit excessive for such a mundane task. Then again, kids his age were likely to enjoy any use of unusual powers.

Returning her focus to breakfast, Lara's first bite of blueberry pie was halfway to her mouth, and halted when Moreena's body movement became stiffer and stiffer, until it almost became comparable to that of a machine. The goddess' eyes becoming even darker than before was also unsettling.

Finally, Lara continued her first bite, pretending not to have seen a thing.

Angua frowned and made a hrmm noise. "I'd suggest an alternative for dealing with the OSI, but I can't be sure what's going to work. More than that, we can't leave any evidence behind." She nodded to Qrlil. "You're here in your official capacity, right? You've got a lot to lose if there's an investigation, I won't have that. Not if I can help it." Angua sounded resolute, but there was a tinge of worry clearly audible also.

"If you want my advice, take a bunch of the sneaky stuff- lock breakers, surveilance, yadda yadda. Maybe a couple of quiet non-lethal options. Maybe." She let her arms drop, becoming more insistent. "Listen- are you sure there isn't a way you can think of to get me on-site? You know I wouldn't hesitate to do this myself if Wesley wun't in danger."

Qrlil tipped her head and hissed at Zerrimus. "You would be surprised at the type of things one needs at an embassy," she said humorously. Then she sobered. "But yes, you are correct in that most of those are not present here - though I believe there actually are encrypted communications devices around here somewhere."

She glanced around the room, trying to remember if she'd been told anything in specific. As she did, she glanced over at Angua, feeling mixed feelings about her frien- about the kasuar's protectiveness. As with Zerrimus earlier, it warmed her internally, but it also seemed like it could become both inconvenient and potentially even annoying.

"I don't have that much to lose, actually," she told Angua, "at least not in purely official terms. I don't think the Commonwealth is the sort of ally we want for the Alliance anyway." She wasn't naive enough (at least not anymore) to believe that the Alliance wouldn't ever engage in its own questionable intelligence operations, but any nation-state that gave as much power to something like the OSI as the Commonwealth seemed to... well, she'd already seen where that led in her own reality.

"Anyway," she continued, beginning to walk from one storage cabinet to the next, "it is my risk to take."

She paused, considering Angua's second request. "Possibly," she said, "but as I understand it the problem is that you are already familiar to them. I don't have anything that could disguise you - I suppose my robes could be used for camouflage, but they're - er - too small, and the size can't be altered that much."

She glanced over at Zerrimus. "Speaking of equipment - this is most likely a stupid question, but are those," she nodded at his wings, "purely vestigial?"

"They have their uses," Garkin said, stretching his wings. "But I can't um, fly or anything, no." He pushed a few more buttons, finishing and sending his message to the ship. "As for sneaking you in," he continued, looking at Angua. "Coming up with some kind of disguise shouldn't be too difficult, not in a crazy interdimensional city. And once we're inside it won't really matter I guess, since we're not supposed to be there either way."

"I see."

Miyuki did not particular care about the strange looks the staff were giving her, or the odd man's story, or about much of anything else involved at the moment. Her mission, as she had set it out for herself, was now complete, and everything else was just so much noise. She was eager to head back to Akira, but hesitant to leave. She supposed that she ought to stay a little while longer, if only to be thorough. And besides... What would Akira do if he were here?

"Your alarms woke my friend." She informed Seon. "He was also quite tired from yesterday, so..." It occurred to her that most people might be rather annoyed at this point. "So it was rude of you to wake him like that!" She said, trying to feign annoyance. She wasn't much of an actress, though, so she sounded a bit stiff and hesitant. Slightly embarrassed, she paused, briefly, then continued. "Are your alarms dangerous, or do they just make noise?"

At first Eliza didn't notice what Moreena was doing. Her attention was divided between her danish and the young boy with all the floating orbs around him who had just entered.

She might have made a comment about him, but before she got the chance the drone suddenly burst into a flurry of noises that sounded somewhere between the usual clicks and an ambulance's siren; noises she recognized as its "Danger! Danger!" signal.

She looked concerned as she turned to face it, but as it turned out it simply appeared to be what Moreena was doing. Eliza, being a perfectly normal human in most regards, couldn't see much of anything beyond what her eyes showed her, and beyond the goddess's odd movements and apparent change in expression she didn't see anything worth worrying about. Whatever it was that Moreena was actually doing was enough to make the drone freak out.

Eliza shook her head and sighed in mild annoyance before pulling her headphones up around her ears again and pressing a few buttons. Another moment later, the drone shifted out of alarm mode and resumed its normal activities, though it did noticeably look disoriented now.

"Sorry about that," she said, "Apparently there's enough weirdness going on that the drone's alarm mode got triggered."

Slowly but surely, the cloud layer kept breaking up. Although they still crowded the sky, there was now plenty of blue to be seen as well, and even the sun peeked out every once in a while.

Angua shook her head, looking uncertain. "Iunno that I like the idea of futzing with weird extra-dimensional magic. 'Sides, it'll probably be counter-productive. That's just the sort of thing those OSI are supposed to be good at sniffing out. Could do more harm than good." Her head dipped so that her chin touched her chest, and she sighed. "I- I'm sorry, I got nothing. I wanna be involved to minimize the risk to the both of you, but..."

[Clarke Hospital - Room 86]

She stirred in her sleep.

She felt a being moving through the hallways, searching for something. Its shape was familiar. She had seen many others like it. Small, much smaller than herself, but always so busy...

She opened her eyes, her true eyes.

The awakened one turned her gaze upon it, scrutinizing it carefully, not even attempting to hide her presence. She wondered what it must look like to the thing moving through the halls. Like a whale gazing upon an ant.

She tired quickly, however. Others may be able to use their forms freely, but hers was too large to keep awake for long, even just to passively observe something. Moreover, the suppressor she wore made sure she couldn't do more than that. She determined it wasn't hostile, at least not yet. Feeling secure, she went back to her slumber.

...

...

Flamist woke up sleepily, expecting fully to see her companion at her side. Instead, she saw only empty bedspace.

She lifted her mask slightly to rub her eyes, wondering where he was. As if to answer her, the door to the room creaked open slightly.

"Hey Flai," Energy chirped, bringing in the breakfast he bought earlier. "Got some food for ya."

[Hotel Fantastique - Fourth Floor (Outside Room 413)]

Seon glanced somewhat more curiously at the strange human - strange, it seemed, not only in her appearance (which was, after all, a relative concept with any sort of alien), but also in her behavior. There was something very stiff, almost mechanical, about her mannerisms. For a frightful moment, he almost found himself wondering if she might be an automaton.

Realizing that she was asking him a question, he refocused, and almost immediately found himself looking down at the floor rather than meet her gaze. One more person I've inconvenienced, I've seen. How have I screwed up this entire trip so badly after everything I've already...?

He sighed. "Yes, w-well. I'm - I'm terribly sorry about that." He paused, looking back up in surprise. "And no, of course they're not dangerous. Do I - do I look as though I am a dangerous person? They are just alarms meant as a safety measure." He shifted his tone slightly to a more placating one, suspecting the sentiment he was about to express might make some sense to someone like her. "I mean, I know the hotel is supposed to be safe, sure" - he ignored a glare from one of the staff members - "but you can never be too careful, right?"

He looked down again. "Truly, I am - um - really, really sorry, though. I just wasn't thinking."

[Quantum Inn - Alliance Suite]

Qrlil began opening the storage cabinets with increasing urgency. She suspected it made for a somewhat comical sight to the others - a short alien in flapping robes, pulling open drawers and doors with a significant amount of force - but she was growing slightly frustrated. She was certain that she remembered something about communications devices being stored here in case of emergencies (which this certainly should qualify as), but where were they?

Pausing for a moment, she craned her head over her shoulder and looked back and forth between the others. "Zerrimus didn't mention anything about magic necessarily, Angua," she said. "While I suppose the difference between the two is somewhat hard to tell at this level, I think this city - or at least the parts of it that we are in - uses much more technology than magic. I am certain we can..." she paused for a moment, "can find something."

In truth, she would actually probably feel better if Angua stayed behind. The infiltration attempt would be the really dangerous part of this mission, and the less people she... cared about on it, the more she'd be able to fight the urge to worry. But she decided not to say this out loud; she already felt vaguely guilty just for thinking it considering her mixed feelings about Angua and Zerrimus's own protective streaks.

Turning back towards the storage compartments, she continued her search, before calling back as another thought struck her: "By the way, do either of you - or the hologram - know how many ordinary people are in this hotel? If things do go very badly wrong, I would like to avoid any harm coming to them as much as possible."

Creation... Moreena's true form did not have any eyes, but if that hadn't been the case they might have widened in shock. She wasn't afraid, of course, because a goddess did not... Oh, fuck it. This is terrifying.

She returned to her body slightly too quickly, causing it to drop her spoon. She picked it up again, trying her best to hide her emotions from Eliza and Lara.

"I found it," she said.

So I'm on summer vacation as of now, so updates will be frequent and often unless I say something else.

[Shut Inn -> Whitehall Hotel]

Kommissar navigated his way further into the West Side. He felt that it was a good time to put the mask back on, as no one there would mind. He couldn't understand why it was comforting to hide behind a mask, but some annoying psychologist will.

As he approached the Whitehall Hotel, he caught sight of a piece of his group, as well as a couple of civilians. Especially since there was a woman who looked like the target. Not good.

The German decided to stay far off. He leaned against a nearby building. Echo and Nero probably know what to do now. Just can't... Pull focus. He pulled out his map and pretend to look through it. He gave a glance towards the two, in hopes the would notice his presence.

[Shut Inn -> Ted's Canteen]

"No, no, that's fine. Let's head there." Kevin already felt like a nuisance to their plot, but Roderick seemed fine with it.

The less-than favorable buildings were a vast echo of an industrial area, and the people around them seemed as forgotten. He tried to eye each and every one of them in hope his target was among them. But to no avail, there were no red masks among the civilians.

But soon enough, the buildings then became older, if not in better shape.

They came upon the diner, which was moderately busy. Hopefully not too busy in terms of grabbing a quick cup of joe.

As the two stood in line, Kevin whispered, "If you see anyone with a red mask, please tell me. They might be my target." He still kept his own eye out among the crowd.

"So did I," Moreena said. "But as it turns out, it was... rather hard to miss." She ate some more of her pie in an effort to seem unfazed and casual. "I only saw it briefly, but I'm sure it's the same... thing that was at the mall. I just didn't expect it to... never mind."

She had only encountered a few beings that came even close to the nature of this one, and it usually didn't end well. Her body looked as calm and collected as ever by now, but her true self was practically shivering.

Angua's eyes followed Qrlil around as she searched, a slight smile tugging at the edges of her mouth. "If the Commonwealth booked out an entire floor, there can't be that many people staying there. Oh, is that all?

Qrlil moved her head about in a noncommittal expression. "That is the part that worries me," she said. "I still don't have a good idea of what their capabilities are, and I do not like a plan that depends entirely on avoiding things going wron - ah, yes!"

She had pulled open another storage compartment to reveal a cube-shaped object with four small bronze metallic disks set into its top. She pressed several spots on its surface - to purely visual observation, they apparently indistinguishable from the rest, though her backup had highlighted them with icons in her field of vision - and three of the disks came loose. Picking one up, she showed it to the others.

"I thought we had something such as this around here," she said. "These are private-channel short-range communications devices to be used in an emergency. 'Short-range' here means that they're limited to an area about half the size of this city, so there shouldn't be any problems staying contact. They can be set for visual or audio-only communication - the latter would probably be a better idea for this situation."

She glanced at Zerrimus, a thought coming to her somewhat hesitantly. "Does - can your holograph device be operated in real-time from a distance?"

"These will be useful," Garkin said, giving the disk a closer look. Then he held up his left arm, looking at his holograph with a thoughtful expression. "I think I know what you're thinking..." he said. He pressed a button on the device, opening a small hatch on one side of the holo-projector. With a loud click! he removed a small black box from inside it.

"This part contains all the scanning equipment," he said. "I could turn it on and have it send the data back to the rest of the device." He scratched his chin. "What's your plan, exactly?"

"Good to know the drones found the right place to look, at least," Eliza commented.

She raised an eyebrow at how quickly Moreena seemed to want to drop the subject. Considering that it was exactly what they came here for, surely the goddess figured that her companions would want to know a little more. If nothing else, the drone could likely provide additional confirmation.

"So where was this thing, exactly?"

Qrlil set down the communications disk and tilted her head noncommittally. "Well, I was thinking that if it really is impossible for Angua to accompany us to the hotel, perhaps she could stay here and monitor the hologram device, sending us updates on the situation based on your scans. It would be very useful to have that sort of real-time information, and it would - " she looked at Angua - "er, give you the way to help that you mentioned wishing for."

She shifted her posture slightly, feeling a little guilty again about the suggestion. Apart from the slight hypocrisy it represented, she also didn't want for Angua to think that she thought the kasuar couldn't take care of herself, or for Zerrimus to think that she was more worried about Angua's safety than his.

That isn't what's going on, is it? She considered for a moment and decided to her satisfaction that no, it was not; since Angua already had particular reasons not to go, it was only logical to go with that and find a way she could still help.

Still, the thought made her slightly uncomfortable. Casting about for a reassuring distraction, she realized that while she'd had a little to drink since getting up, she hadn't really had any sort of breakfast yet. She made her way back into the dining area and again began rummaging around, though she kept her head slightly tilted towards the others to see how they reacted to her proposal.

"Oh, that makes sense," Garkin said. "It would cut down on the multitasking for me, at least." It would also keep Angua out of danger. He had no doubts that she could take care of herself, but he didn't like the idea of bringing her into danger. He felt the same way about Qrlil, but he also realized that he would most likely need her help to get inside the building, and that she probably wouldn't take 'no' for an answer.

He returned the black box to his holograph, locking it in place with a second click. "I'll keep this thing with me then, but I'll hook it up to your terminal. Mroothan software is ridiculously adaptable, so it shouldn't be a problem."

Moreena looked back at her companions. They had obviously not been satisfied with the sparse information she had provided. She sighed in her usual, hollow sounding way.

"There's no need to lie or sugarcoat it, I suppose," she began. "To say that the being I found is 'big and powerful' would be a serious understatement. It managed to scare me, and that's not something that happens very often."

She sighed a second time. "It's currently hiding inside a body in room 86."

Kiyumi smirked to Samantha's remark about them falling asleep during battle. "Nah, I am wide awake and raring to go!" she exclaimed with a grin. Midori blinked and looked curious about the comment on getting better sleep than the two magical girls. "I..see. I guess you do have to be prepared for those robots." she commented, shifting a little. She was still hoping they would be good enough for the task to help take them down as she had her doubts (mostly about herself). Well, the sparring match would definitely answer that.

Kyana suddenly looked sheepish. She didn't even think about the fact she didn't have a change of clothes so that she wasn't recognizable by the ones that were after them. Though back at the Spire they appeared to be aiming mainly for Joshua. His next comment on how maybe they wouldn't make it public because of pride relieved her worries a bit. Hopefully that was true. Picking at her food she asked, "So what do we do now?" Would she continue to follow and help him? It wouldn't seem right to just leave him when he really needed help. "It's not just because of the Bleaksteel, even," Samantha said, before she looked down slightly and frowned. "...with the kind of life I've been leading, I've learned just to grab sleep when I can and work with however much of it I can get."

She looked as if she wanted to say more, but instead opted to finish off the last of her breakfast. She picked up a napkin and wiped what little food had gotten on her face before speaking again. "But that's a long story, not to mention a little depressing one. On a more relevant note, I think it's time we get going."

Eliza's eyes widened slightly. "...Well, that's interesting. I'm not sure what I was expecting to find, but it sounds like something worse than what I was imagining."

She frowned and glanced at the drone briefly. "That being said, assuming it really was responsible for that explosion yesterday, we still don't know what its reasoning was." She paused, then faced Moreena again. "Size and scariness aside, do you think it's actually hostile?"
