"Agreed," Guillaume said. "We can use the trees for cover as she did, but stay close together. I can't defend you if you're out of arm's reach."

Personality Trait!

I do not trust this man. This fight is probably staged, with this man aiming to steal our goods and items. A highwayman, probably.

Torlief showed no suspicion in his face, shouldered his pack, and followed his companions.

STEALTH ROLL!

Katya emerges from the bushes, peaking her head out.

She sees the situation fairly clearly; Three crossbowmen hide with readied shots. On the other side of the road, two more on the otherside of the bush and three in the clearing, two look very physically intimidating; a human and a dwarf. They seem to be serving as the main force for physical intimidation for the group while the other more slender human (perhaps Half Elf?) serves as a negociator for the group.

The cart was host to a handful of people from a smattering of races with a rather eccentric looking set of gear. There is a halfling and Half-elf out front, apparently trying to negoiate for the travellers with the highway men.

Meanwhile to account for their lack of stealth, the rest of the group keep a slower pace. They are about a minute away from Katja, having lost sight of her as she charged ahead; headless of them. Torlief comes to see the bandits eventually, though barely through the tree cover; Thorkil and Guillaume see them clearly but know that they must approach with caution.

Getting a look at the environment, Katya smiled to herself... her mind humming with the simple spells she had been casting on her way to the locale. Secrets she had drawn from her exploration of the beyond...

She knew what she was doing was risky... however she didn't often get the chance to do good in this way. And more importantly... if it did work out, it would be quite fun.

Thus, after taking a deep breath she altered the illusion covering her body... changing her shape into something... more. She made herself appear as tall as her spell would extend... her clothes a dark cloak seemingly made of shifting shadows and smoke. Her limbs made of bone with rotting flesh and maggots. And her face... half of it would be a rotten ruin, one eye being nibbled by worms, flesh constantly dripping sludge and puss. The other half of her face would be that of a beautiful woman... making her rotting side all the more terrible by contrast.

With the changes done, Katya revealed herself... but not in a normal manner. This is what the spells she had prepared were there for. Powers that lightly touched upon creation... small supernatural nudges to do what she wanted. As she stepped from behind the bushes she let the magic of her thaumaturgy surge forth... causing fell whispers to seemingly come from all around her. As she gave one heavy step onto the ground, small tremors would shake the ground... and her voice was made deep and terrible, loud, oh so very loud.

"BeeeeEEEEeeetrayeeerss! MuUUUuuuurderers... Baaaaaaaaaandits! WreEeTcHEd, RoTTIIIING SOOOOULS!" Cries out Katya, twisting her voice as far as she can her hand extending to encompass the highwaymen, such a gesture making a piece of illusory flesh seemingly fall down "HeAAAAR the cRy of HEL! Misstressss Under the World... YoU CRaaaven SoUlssss that hunt tHe Helplesss! SIIINFUL! LAWLESSS! THE HALLS OF VALHALLA ARE CLOSED TO YOU! On This Field! Now! The results of Katya's gambit would be chaotic to say the least.

Katja's magics would whip the crowd into a frenzy as they tried to reassess the situation. Many of them reacted with fear; two of the three archers stationed on Katja's side of the road would flee directly towards the travellers at full speed. One on the far side of the road would abandon his post and even the Tattooed Dwarven berserker would begin to flee, muttering about the auld gwitchgy coming for the lot of them. However, there was one unsettling reaction; the large human in the road, covered in bear furs would turn towards Katja and smile with wide bloody thirsty eyes as he sized her up.

The Halfling meanwhile turned to Katja and took the chance to lead signal the Half-Elf forward. She took the chance to break into a wild and mad sounding song

Katja and the other travellers felt a sense of inspiration prevailing over them as they charged into the frey (Bardic Inspiration, one +1d6 bonus on a 1d20 roll of your choice in the coming ten minutes)

The other human bandit, smaller but sneakier looking, charged at the Halfling, brandishing his weapon and clubbing her in the head, only to miss on his second strike. The Halfling was left reeling from the blow; She's still standing but it's clear that she might not survive another blow like it. (7 Damage)

The Half-Elf signaled his companions to charge from the cart, which two did, armed only with stage weapons. Another two quietly tried to flee. The Half-Elf charged to aid his Halfling friend but was too late, none the less, he valiantly stuck a blow against their leader, however he was clearly outmatched. (5 Damage)

The fleeing bandits continued to charge directly at the pair of travelling actors, headless of the danger. The one on the far side of the road was out of sight now, but still might return.

Meanwhile, the large human highway man ignored the rest of this chaos and charged directly at Katja, eyes wide and teeth bared. Katja shook to her senses while he was still some twenty feet away; if she wished to flee she would need to hurry and make an athletics check. Or she could try to get a shot in.

Utter chaos. Katya could be content for that, if not for how some of the bandits seemingly lost control and started attacking the innocents. And there was now one big, bear skinned man rushing at her with a fury... smiling in an unsettling way.

Well then, Katya wasn't out of tricks yet... and with her mind racing she already has her next moves lined up. Grinning the Death's Lady own smile at the charging human she lifted her hand at him and did a spell... summoning the energies of the otherworld to rush and damage him. An eldritch blast, then taking a single moment to make a curtsy and let out a cackle before she just... vanished, surrounded by a silvery mist. At the opening of an eye she was there... and then she was nothing but mist... while in truth, she teleported 30 feet up. To sit upon the branches of one of the trees around her, hopefully out of sight and more importantly, out of immediate reach of the charging warrior.

[Actions: Eldritch Blast, Ranged Spell Attack, 1d10 Damage on hit, +4 to hit, then movement action to curtsy at the running man and cackle and then concealment, then bonus action to cast Misty Step]

Innocents are going to die, damn it all!'

"I'm going on ahead!" Torlief hissed, breaking into a run. He tore his way through the brush, temporarily ignoring the weight of his heavy armor.

Hopefully he'd make it in time.

The Barbarian charges towards Katya as the blast flies stay (6+4), the Barbarian continues towards her with a fury in his eyes.

"YNGVAR WILL CONQUER HEL HERSELF, COME COWARD GIRL, FIND MY AXE END."

Still, Katya manages a quick curtsy as she maked a hurried step forward into a misty realm, disappearing before the Barbarian. She spies the perfect branch and teleports up there, narrowly keeping her balance as she readjusts to sit (11+2). She does so quietly and without attracting the attention the YNGVAR (15+4).

You hear shouting from the clearing but you can't quite see what it is.

"Bugger," The only crossbow in clear view of the group shouts, "There's more o' the bastards."

With that, he fires a shot off towards the bard. However, the Trees impede his shots and as Thorkil charges forward, he finds a bolt embedded in the trunk of a tree.

YNGVAR looks around in a rage as Katja does her best to remain perfectly quiet. In a rage, he slams his axe into a tree trunk, shaking the great tree and sending birds scattering to the wind.

"YOU WILL NOT HIDE LONG, LITTLE HEL GIRL. SOON, YOU WILL BE DYING."

Party is now about 90 feet from Katja, Yngvar and the clearing. Partially covered. Enemy NP Cs have mostly regrouped but the friendly travelling Actors have also had time to start their get away. There maaaaay be casualties depending on how the next round goes however.

Thorkil squinted. “I have a shot on him,” he told his compatriots. Putting his talharpa — gently! — into his pack, he nocked an arrow and drew the string. Breathing in and holding, he let loose at the loud berserker.

Thorkil moves forward 30 feet, then uses his bonus action to stow the talharpa away. He shoots at the berserker with his shortbow (+4 attack, 1d6+2 damage).

YNGVAR looks around in a rage, fury in his eyes as his long and wild hoary hair flies about. His Axe swings with him blindly as he curses Hel and vows to strike her down. By a stroke of ill fortune, his eyes dart to the tree in which Katja is hiding and he flashes a dark and savage smile.

With a great winding blow, he strikes it and sets the tree to shake. The birds which pirtched there take to wing, some flying mere inchs from Katja. Katja clings to the tree for dear life, feeling the roughness of the bark and the swinging of the tree from the mighty blow, still not daring to utter a sound in hopes that she was not heard. And, by Frigga's grace, it seems the brute did not, but turned his attention else where. Specifically to the Arrow that only narrowly missed him and its source, as well as the two young men rapidly over taking him towards the Berserker. Yngvar's smiled grew wider.

Meanwhile, over the hill, a Halfing and Half-Elf, bleeding and battered but living, charged and stumpled over the hill. A shout behind them was heard.

"Hobcyn!" The Halfling shouted back over her shoulder, "Only a bit further, you can make it yet, lad."

Torlief rushed in behind Guillaume, hammer at the ready.

"You who would seek harm against my allies, I challenge you as well!" he bellowed out, swinging his warhammer into YNGVAR's armored frame.

Look upon me and be proud, Priest. I validate my existence by serving the Lady

"By Freya, I will protect!" he proclaimed as the necklace around his neck began to glow. In the air near him a second warhammer of equal size mystically formed itself out of thin air. It looked significantly beutiful than Torlief's own weapon, and was decorated with holy symbols of Freya.

This too swung at Yngvar.

“Hey ugly!” Thorkil shouted. “Yes, you ugly hairy monkey! Need a bodkin for all of that hair? Have at thee!”
Drawing the string back again, he let loose once more, then advanced toward Yngvar. He kept an eye out — he hope the berserker's friends won't appear and hit his companions' backs while they were turned.
“Guillaume! Show this fool how real men fight!” Thorkil's last shout was something more: he laced it with his magic, using the sound of his words to mold the world's form and force it to help his friend.

Thorkil shoots the berserker again, then advances 30 feet toward the melee. He uses his bonus action to use Bardic Inspiration on Guillaume (1d6, can add it to a damage roll or a reaction roll to an attack due to Combat Inspiration).

"YOU NEED A REAL MAN TO DEMONSTRATE FOR YOU, LITTLE BARD?" YNGVAR laughed at the Distant Bard's remark as he narrowly dodged the Paladin's Hammer (8+5), "PERHAPS YOU SHOULD LOOK TO ONE WHO DOES NOT ATTACK FOUR TO ONE."

As he shouted, the Torlief struck him from behind (12+5), causing the Barbarian to grunt in pain (7 Damage!). The Torlief's chanting soon ressounded as he summoned a Hammer, 5 feet away from him, which struck him from behind as well.

The Berserker laughed as the Bard's shot flew wide (4+5) and smiled at the Cleric. He shouted in pain as the Warlock behind him shot a blast of Eldritch magic into his spine (12+4, 4 damage) but YNGVAR continued none the less and struck a mighty through Guillaume's shield striking a fairly substantial blow even to the mighty Paladin (10 Damage)

“A real man doesn't attack innocent travellers!” Thorkil roared in response. He advanced again while taking the talharpa out of his pack (dropping his bow in the process); he was in range, and it was time to play a tune. He started playing the same silly ditty from yesterday, only now he laced magic through it, designed to make everything seem so bloody hilarious to YNGVAR. “I might just sneeze on you when I'm done, berserker!” he added, hoping Guillaume would catch the hint.

Thorkil advances 30 feet, then takes talharpa out and drops his shortbow (bonus action). He then casts Tasha's Hideous Laughter at Yngvar (DC 13).
