Episode 7: Megumi rocking the ponytailed look. Just because.
Staple character #3 appears. Not the one in episode 0, but a previously unseen little sister-ish underclassman that Tomoya lead down a path of indulgence. First class at degrading morals, indeed.
Plus! A Ho Yay Foe Yay route appears. Not keen on this doujin circle rivalry thing honestly.
Episode 9: Screw the sentimentality and go tear the childhood friend a new one. After all the years of watching anime guys apologize to girls (especially worse in cases where they don't even know what they should be feeling sorry for), it is cathartic to see Tomoya stick to his convictions and not ask for forgiveness he thinks he shouldn't be asking for in the first place.
Utaha's the one doling out the zingers in this one. Her condescending mockery of Eriri the romantic was spot on.
Then Megumi software. Boom.
That scene with Utaha popping up right behind Megumi reminded me of Death Note.
Got around to watching the last two episodes.
I want MORE.
For someone plain Megumi is quite adept at holding my attention. That thing she pulled on Tomoya after learning some basic scripting was ingenious. Heavy contender for heroine of the year.
The show itself isn't too shabby either. Take your typical harem comedy and add some juicy meat to the bones— you get SaeKano. Reminding us that past the "character" is the "person".
Anyway, enough gushing. Hope Spring 2015 has something to fill the void this will elave behind...

Is there a trope for when some character is tricked into wearing a ridiculous or, more likely, fanservicey costume, and they complain about it after they put it on? As if they somehow failed to noticed what it was until they had already put it together? Including the cat ear headband which you'd obviously have to intentionally put on after already putting on the maid uniform?
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I'd expect such a person to realize what they're being made to wear immediately and then go complaining before putting it on. That just makes sense to me.
Well, that's not very close at all. The point is that they're talked into it after they've already changed clothes. And I guess because the action is happening off-screen, it's treated as something that takes no... volition, I guess. Changing their own clothes is apparently just something that happens to them and it feels really weird.
A sequel to the anime has been confirmed
What it'll be specifically is not mentioned, but here's hoping it's a proper second season.
Sorry for the bumping.
I have just found out that Yen Press has licensed the light novel, and is now selling it under the title of How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend
.
Based on current guidelines, I plan to move the Saekano articles to that title in a few days—but I would like your opinion on this.
Scientia et Libertas | Per Aspera ad Astra NovaWell the 'official' anime title is "Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend", it uses elements of both titles so probably should go with that. Its what The Other Wiki is using too.

For those excited about the second season, it's formally kicked off with their customary fanservice episode
.

A hardcore geek has a chance encounter with a beautiful girl, which inspires him to create his own visual novel. He forms a circle for this very objective, who also happen to comprise his harem.
Said geek later finds out that the beautiful girl he's basing his game on is actually his plain jane classmate, a hard-to-notice girl who possesses no moe qualities at all. Which drives the guy nuts.
A.k.a. The Kato Megumi appreciation thread. Hands down the best heroine of the season.
Even putting her aside, this actually turned out to be a rather pleasant watch. It's supposedly being directed by the same guy behind Ore Shura, which explains how it's relatively more subdued than the typical harem show.
Episode 5: In which there is indisputably a date, to the enjoyment of both parties involved, and surprisingly with little backlash from the parties not involved.
