The following information is authorized for all RED clearance trouble shooters.

ROLLING THOSE DICE

When you are attempting to do something challenging, you will need to roll. As the GM, I will either assign a challenge rating for the task or have a competing roll made.

Example: There is a sentry turret you have to get by. I say the turret is only lightly armored and has a challenge of two to destroy with a grenade.

Step one: Suggest an appropriate FIELD and SKILL.

FIELDS: Violence, Mechanics, Brains, Chutzpah

SKILLS: Melee, Guns, Athletics, Duck, Program, Engineer, Dive, Demolitions, Beuracracy, Science, Psychology, Alpha Complex Knowledge, Lie, Charm, Scare, Stealth

Example: One obvious combination for throwing a grenade is VIOLENCE and DEMOLITIONS. You may include an argument if you want to try a non-immediately obvious combo, such as BRAINS and STEALTH - For examply, if you plan to calculate where the best place to throw the grenade would be, and then sneak to that spot avoiding the sentry turret's notice.

Step two: Roll your dice pool for the event

Your dice pool is made of a number of six sided dice. There is always at least one die (the computer die), plus a number of dice equal to your field score and a number equal to your skill score.

I advise http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/

Example: You have a violence of 1 and a demolition of 0. Not good. However, you have brains of 2 and stealth of 3. Using Brains and strealth, your dice pool is then 6 dice (Computer Die (1) + Field (Brains, 2) + Skill (Stealth, 3) ).

Step three: Count the number of successes

Each die that is showing a 5 or a 6 is a success. If you roll successes equal or higher then the challenge rating, you succeed.

Example: You roll 6,1,5,5,4,4. That's three successes, so your grenade is effective against the turret. But wait! Your first die roll is a six! That brings us to step four.

Step Four: The Computer Die!

The first die is special. If it's a six, it still counts as a success... technically. However, Friend Computer has noticed what you are doing. This usually means something bad, either for you or someone you're with. Maybe Friend Computer objects to you blowing up valuable complex property. Maybe Friend Computer just feels you need to watch a training video about the importance of good dental hygiene after using your teeth to pull out a grenade pin. As the GM, I will be deciding what Friend Computer does. Just remember that if your first die is a six, you'll need for me to decide what Friend Computer does.

EXPENDITURE POINTS (XP)

Alpha Complex does not have money. What it does have is eXpenditure Ponints (XP). Friend Computer grants XP as a reward for doing anything Friend Computer approves of. XP can be taken away in order to pay for equipment or replacing Alpha Complex Property you destroy. You can also transfer XP to other players or characters, but must roll a six sided dice (or d6 for short). If the die roll is a six, Friend Computer wants to know why the XP was transferred and may count it as treason.

TREASON STARS

Each character has a treason star rating. Your character's current treason rating is public knowledge. When Friend Computer sees you doing something treasonous, you get a treason star. Once you have five treason stars, you can now be killed and an XP bonus will be given to the person who killed you. When your clone dies, any current treason stars are erased and your new clone starts with zero treason stars.

Okay I am confused as to how this works.

Silence-R-104-1 has the following field scores: Violence: 1 (Guns), Mechanical: 3 (Programming, Engineering, and Drive), Brains: 2 (Beuracracy and Science), and Chutzpah: 0 ()

When making a roll, you pick a skill (in this case Beuracracy) and a field (in this case: Brains). You add your skill score (3) to your field score (2) and then a computer die (1). You will always roll at LEAST the computer die. Your total dice pool is: 6.

Normally you would roll the dice pool yourself, but I will roll for you this time. 3,4,3,3,6,5 = two successes.

Ah thank you. It'll take a bit to figure out how the dice rolling work.

As GM, I assure you all my decisions are based purely on the interests of fairness and telling a good story.

As Friend Computer, all my decisions are completely arbitrary, random, and/or bat shit insane. Expect more treason stars to be handed out in the future for whatever petty reasons I want.

Friend Computer. What is worse? Communists or Terrorists? Or Commie Terrorists!

-> Citizen, information about Commie Traitors is classified as YELLOW. You have been awarded ONE (1) treason point for requesting knowledge beyond your current clearance level. Have a nice day.

Ignorance is bliss. Bliss is happiness. Happiness is mandatory. Ignorance is mandatory.

Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Corruption makes one evil. Evil is hammy. Ham is delicious. Delicious things make one happy. Happiness is mandatory. Ignorance is mandatory. Thus Knowledge is Ignorance.

It's Paranoia. Something bad can happen to you at any time. Once you get five treason stars is when people can get an XP bonus for killing you. Four stars or less, anyone caught killing you may be fined by Friend Computer or given a treason star.

I love you guys - so glad I decided to join this game. Already accusations of sabotage, treason and a murder attempt or two.

So Silence is one character who needs to use his brains. Who else needs to use theirs to be useful?

Also yes this is fun.

So if my character curses in a foreign language, do I get a treason star? Just checking. tongue Oh, and the language in question is Spanish.

EDIT: Jesus Christ this RP goes so fast. I love it!

For cursing? no. For unauthorized knowledge of a foreign language? Yes, if Friend Computer catches you or one of your fellow officers reports it.
