This is thread for discussion of all things amiibos. Talk about how to find them, which ones you have, new ones, old ones, custom ones, one ones, two ones, red ones, blue ones...
Personally, this is my favorite custom amiibo I've seen: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-Custom-Fox-Amiibo-/161586683710?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item259f511f3e

I don't have any Amiibos yet.
Also awesome thread title, Dr. Strangelove is a great movie.
I didn't want to give away the reference for people that didn't get it.
For the first response to this thread, I am proud to say that I own no Amiibos!
I just don't know if I really want to spend money on them, I am kinda interested in the Link one for the Spinner in Hyrule Warriors. I also want Yoshi, just to have a pet Yoshi. I may be interested in Shulk if they have any support with Xenoblade. But I just don't know, they're kinda expensive.
I will say, if we ever get this ported to America, I would love to buy them up!
So... what exactly do they do?
They're essentially "DLC" in Action Figure form. Giving you things like skins, new moves, and other extra content in your games.
I just want a Shulk
Well, almost certainly a Sonic, too
And maybe Mega Man
And I guess a Robin
Shame I can't buy virtually any of these because of supply constraints tho
,They're not just DLC for one game, though. A single figure can unlock things in multiple different games. Buying Link, for instance, unlocks a costume in Mario Kart 8, a customizable sparring partner in Smash, and a weapon in Hyrule Warriors.
As DLC goes, they're surprisingly affordable.
Said supply constraints are ridiculous. Both the fact that they exist, and their severity.
I once joked about how they're selling so fast that they're "Not even hitting the store shelves"... And then later I grabbed a Rosalina Amiibo right out of a stocker's box. IT DIDN'T EVEN HIT THE SHELF. I also bought someone else's pre-ordered Shulk amiibo. I am part of the problem.
I thought it was one Amiibo per game?
There may be overlap between multiple series of amiibo, but if you have an amiibo of one character from one series, it's functionally the same as one of that same character from another series. For example, there's going to be a series of Super Mario Bros. amiibos, but a character from that line can be used in all of the same ways as the Super Smash Bros. version of that character.
Nope! My Smash!Link unlocks things in both Smash and Mario Kart.
It's a really nice twist on the "collectibles" games that have become popular in recent years.
It's funny. Cuz you never know what bonuses you are going to get in future games when you get an Amiibo.
I have a Pit Amiibo, and I just KNOW that if/when we get a Kid Icarus Uprising sequel I'll get a neat little weapon or costume from it.

Don't the things have a massively limited amount of memory space per figure, though?
Yes but I'm sure the console can save the amiibo backup data. You do have to delete the data from one to use it for another game.
Given how easy it is to hold large amounts of data for relatively cheap anymore, that seems like a massive shortcoming oversight.
I still feel like a lucky ducky picking up my Villager amiibo at Gamestop. There was only ONE of him, and not because he was selling like flapjacks.
Important note for the unaware: So far only Smash Bros and (the as yet unreleased) Mario Party write data to the amiibos; Mario Kart, Hyrule Warriors, Project STEAM and the like only read data.
I want a Rosalina and a Mega Man amiibo, but I don't have enough money.
Nintendo: *whips out gun* GIVE ME THE FUCKING MONEY!
Given the success of amiibo I wouldn't be surprised if all their games started using them.
They already are. The following first party games are out and are amiibo compatible.
For upcoming games we've got:
Majora's Mask 3D is the only major upcoming game that doesn't have it, and seeing how it's a remake that's been worked on for awhile they probably didn't have the opportunity to put it in. They'll shove it in probably 90% of major first party releases. At this point I'm just hoping that if they do more Steam type unlocks that they make sure those amiibos get more than 15 copies sent out.
I kinda wish they had (as one podcast I listen to, Top Down Perspective, suggested) an amiibo Plaza, or some sort of application for the Wii U that stores your amiibos' game data so you don't need to worry about it being overwritten.
They should patch Amiibo support for Wind Waker since I plan to get a Toon Link one.
I just got my Toon Link in the mail, actually. Waiting for Sonic, Mega Man, and Dedede.
I got a Link as a Christmas gift from the person who game me Smash Bros. for Wii U as a Christmas gift.
I've got the digital version of him done up in Fierce Deity gear and named him "Toki." (A reference to one of my fan fictions, but mostly, I think "Toki" is supposed to mean "Time" in Japanese and it seemed like a good, solid name). I've been training him slowly... don't want him to level up too fast. He's a tough critter. Kept him as he is out of the package, no customizing of the actual figure.
I recall coming across a Toon Link that someone had customized to have his Spirit Tracks engineer-uniform.
I do greatly desire a Pit - well, him, Dark Pit and Palutena when they come out and I am able to get them or have nice people giving me presents again. My birthday's not until summer, though. Then again, Valentine's Day is coming up and my guy knows I like that little "cupid" character...
I've only got right now a Mario amiibo that my brother got for his birthday. I noticed a store chain here had a few Zelda amiibos on stock and I have the money, so I figured "Eh, why not?". She's being sent in a few days.
What I'm a bit worried about is the wave 3 amiibos. From the looks of it, they will reach these shores, but it appears they'll be released by March. Friggin' Nintendo releasing Lucario, Rosalina and Shulk togheter makes my wallet hurt, but where the hell else am I gonna get affordable figurines of them, especially Shulk?
