A all around general thread for the 1980s Real Robot Genre anime Armored Trooper VOTOMS to discuss things about it and all it's OVAs.

Good, a VOTOMS thread. Here are my favorite Armored Troopers:

1. ATM-09-ST Scopedog

2. ATH-14-ST Standing Tortoise

3. B-ATM-03 Fatty

Yeah the Scopedog is my favorite. The Workhorse of the Gilgamesh military!

I need to watch Armor Hunter Mellowlink one of these days. That, and Pailsen Files, I guess.

You should, got a lot of story for ATV.

Incidentally what is your favorite Scopedog custom?

No custom models. We must wreck the VT as efficiently as possible so that it may be replaced with an identical unit next episode!

I was going to say I like the Turbo Custom.

[up][up]No, we must wreck the AT as fast as possible so that it can be replaced with a cheaper, crappier model that kicks even more ass before its glorious destruction.

Fatty supremacy, yo.

What's precedent ever done for us?

Popularity climbing boat girl app Azur Lane is going to have a collaboration event with Armored Trooper VOTOMS.

The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.

Well a remake of it seems to be a distant dream for now.

Only way I really know about this was Super Robot Wars and a few clips I've seen of different things. I must say though it's an interesting mecha anime choice, using Mini-Mecha rather than normal sized.

Well, "normal" sized.

You should watch the entire series, it's pretty good. The Mechs are ugly and utilitarian but that makes them beautiful in their own way, there are no super units, just dumpy grunt units.

[up][up] I first learned about the series thanks to Sgt. Frog and back then, due to its models being in the same shelves as Gunpla, I at first thought it was a Gundam Spin-Off.

The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.

Has anybody here watched the anime Fang of the Sun Dougram? It is made by Ryōsuke Takahashi right before he created VOTOMS, with many of the same themes and aesthetics as the latter. It could even be seen as an unofficial prequel to VOTOMS, with the action taking place on just one planet, during the very early days of humanity colonizing space. Interestingly enough, there is also a connection to Gundam, as many of the people working on Dougram first were part of the MSG-team.

[up] I have. I don't think you can assume Dougram and VOTOMS exist in the same universe as the former mentions an "Earth Federation" a lot and that the Combat Armors are taller and can shrug off more damage from certain weapons as a contrast to Armored Troopers.

I suggest setting up a separate thread or reviving this.

I don't either think the show are meant to be directly connected, even though it is implied that VOTOMS takes place several millennia further in the future, so it isn't impossible. I just find it interesting to see how Dougram is in some ways a bit like a prototype for VOTOMS, as they have many similar elements. While Dougram has more direct allusions to real-world political situation, VOTOMS is more polished.
