Nintendo just confirmed both "Close To You" videos were made by Nintendo Pictures.
I think even Bubsy II got decent contemporary reviews, but yeah, it was all downhill from the first from what I can tell.
Playing the first game on NSO now... it's fine. The aesthetics (art, music, animation) is doing a lot of the heavy lifting to keep the entire package as charming as it is, since the actual gameplay feels like someone who studied what made Sonic the Hedgehog tick — which the creator of Bubsy did — but couldn't quite figure out how to mirror the execution. So you're a one-hit wonder running at speeds that would make Sonic double-take, only to uncontrollably fling yourself into enemies you couldn't see coming, or off cliffs (at which point you're dying to fall damage).
I think the best way to describe it is that Bubsy 1 is a game that expects mastery of its controls from the start, rather than rewards mastery of its controls across subsequent playthroughs. You can certainly adapt to it, but wow can it be frustrating.

Spain sales is becoming a meme now.
Context: Spain sales last month
shows Switch 2 seemingly selling fewer units than PS 5. I believe only a thousand units less. What should be learned is that purchasing power in the country is getting more difficult. What your usual suspects see is that Switch 2 is finally losing steam.
Come the major markets, US and Japan. Especially US. Launch aligned, Switch 2 outpaces PS4 in sales
(note that PS 4 has holiday while Switch 2 has none, considered to be the slow month). And it also outpaced Switch 1
as well. And there's no need to mention Japan, which it has always sold more but still is stock limited with lottery drawings.
Bubsy 1 had issues. You ran fast, but the screen was so zoomed in you could only see what was right in front of you, meaning that enemies would appear without enough time to react to them. The physics were kinda weird when it came to building momentum, and there was fall damage. Despite these issues, Bubsy apparently sold quite well, that's why it got sequels. One was for the Jaguar, and, well, it didn't do well because it was on the Jaguar. But the big thing was Bubsy 3D. That game was just so bad. I remember going to a Toys R Us or Wal-mart or something, because we wanted an N64. Having had an NES and SNES, we were excited about the next Nintendo thing. But our dad, or possibly a clerk or someone, suggested we also take a look at the demo kiosk for this thing called a Playstation, just to see what else was out there. You know what game was inserted into the demo kiosk? Bubsy 3D. Within minutes, we knew that Bubsy 3D was terrible, an at least part of that was because it was a 3D platformer played on a D-pad, as opposed to the N64's analog stick, and assumed that the Playstation was a hunk of junk because of it, and happily walked out with an N64.

Amazing. Bubsy 3D coincidentally being the demo game for the PS1 made you decide that the console that went on to sell over 100 million units was junk. Funny how these things work out!
As for Bubsy 1, I had the SNES version, which let you look ahead when running by holding L or R. It wasn't a great solution (and I felt that the zooming ahead should have been automatic), and it didn't help with certain kinds of situations such as steep hills, nor was it terribly useful in general. But it did make things slightly more manageable.
But until one memorized the levels, yeah, it was a lot of start and stop.
I wonder what a CD Driven Nintendo 64 would have been like. I think that could have been real cool!
As long as this flower is in my heart. My Strength will flow without end.In all likelihood? A lot of the most iconic PS1 titles would be there instead or in addition to it. Final Fantasy VII is the obvious one but you'd probably also see the likes of MGS and Tomb Raider there.
Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonIf we assume no attempts at proprietary C Ds and keeping the same power the N64 has, I could see many devs having late multiplatform games, that would be backported with control sticks and Rumble once the dual shock comes out.
The key thing is that Sony only has just over a year to get a solid fan base before the N64 comes out in Japan.
The other key thing is whether folks start thinking of the N64 as a "kiddie" console. If that sort of thinking starts hitting the N64 early enough, then Final Fantasy VII might not be as big of a hit on the N64 as it was here in the real world.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I could imagine Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie having full voice-acting in cutscenes important to the story and the grunts being used during normal gameplay.
Also since there’d be no battery backup. Rare could rely on memory cards to do Stop N Swop.
Check out Rogues Gallery Transplant: The GameDid any of the N64 era Rare devs ever say whether Banjo Kazooie's grunts were a stylistic thing or a hardware limitation? Always assumed former.
Also, you just reminded me of the Memory Pak, not only would one be needed in every N64 box, but also that the Rumble Pak and Transfer Pak would need to be built with it in mind.
Also have to wonder if anyone else would have used the Transfer Pak for anything. Maybe the Mega Man games?
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."There would have been loading screens. Lots and lots of loading screens.
Super Mario 64 would have been a completely different game, something more akin to Super Mario 3D Land. That's what the devs originally intended, and the Bowser levels are based on that design. However, because the N64 is super fast but the cartridges have little storage space, they instead went with a small number of large, freely explorable levels which change a bit with each star.
RPGs would have been more common.

Ukrainian Red CrossSo, I may be mistaken on this, but it is my understanding that the N64 itself is more powerful than the Playstation, and could "do more stuff." The thing is, the N64 used cartridges while the Playstation used disks, and the disks could hold more data. This would mean the Playstation could have bigger files, which meant full motion video, lots more voice acting, and more detailed textures.
N64 was like a consistant straight line with graphics while the Playstation fluctuated between highs and lows. The thing is, the highs were the FM Vs, which naturally grabbed people's attention.

So far the hack only affected the website. Still, better to change your password.
With that in mind, fuck the haters. Regardless of what you feel about Nintendo, potential employee and user data being compromised is a bad thing.
Honestly, is it incorrect to feel that Nintendo is significantly more vilified than every other gaming company? Of course they do stupid things, but it feels like outrage is always loudest on them.
-Witty line-I'd like to think that's mostly down to social media atrracting a lot of toxic users who would hold views like that. Its probably not nearly as common as it can look sometimes.

no it's not, like you can have EA, Ubisoft and Activision all doing something bad it would only last for about a week tops.
Have Nintendo do something annoying but not really bad and it gets stretch across for months as pure evil.
Hell the stuff about Microsoft's new Game Pass price just came and went, and yet during and after I've seen more about people complaining about Nintendo on months long old stuff.

After 10 year plus years I have the confidence to be here. My one and only Fate servent.

On my first run, I game over'd on level 6 in 19 minutes.
It's, uhh... not the worst?
