There's some merit to that, though I would say this is the absolute worst time to introduce the concept given how much grumbling there's been about the news drought already.
Still waiting for a Legion of Losers movie...May I need to remind people that Nintendo's president is intending to eliminate Directs altogether in favor of something else? Before one is aware, any next Direct might potentially be the Last of Its Kind.
I'm not saying it to sugarcoat the underwhelming result of the last Directs (including and perhaps especially this last one), but actually to suspect that Nintendo itself is losing faith and/or interest in this format.
135 - 158 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300I don't really that's going to be a plan that will be executed soon, because this Partner Showcase had been noted as the first of its kind, which implies that they have plans for making more.
Hope: "Let's go. We'll be together." Lightning: "I only know... that soon, we'll be together."So now people are treating games on Directs like Smash Bros characters?
Where there's life, there's hope.holy fuck more cadence of hyrule
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaI didnt know what to expect and came out with SMT III and V. I cant complain. Except that SMT III isnt going to brag about having Dante from Devil May Cry 2 on the back. Which is fine. I underplayed it above, but I like Raidou and will be glad to play the game with him instead.
If you want to start in on SMT, you can do worse than Nocturne. It's how the West was introduced to the series in the first place.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaire@Watashiwa:
I'm aiming to get a sense of what SMT is *actually* like. I just have to wonder though: is SMT all standalone or are they connected? Perhaps tangentially connected?
2 is the sequel of 1. Apocalypse is the sequel of 4. Other than that, they are independent games.

Where there's life, there's hope. They explicitly exist in a Multi Verse.
Ah, gotcha.
Makes sense. I like that. Thank you.
Atelier Ryza was the first Atelier game I played and I really liked it, so I'm stoked for the sequel.
I've never actually played Nocturne, so I'll definitely be picking that up if I have the money. However, I'll probably prioritise SMTV over that, and I'm quite glad it's still alive.
"If you are going through hell, keep going." - Winston ChurchillI should've just slept anyway, but I did enjoy it. Rogue Project was the only one I was eh on. More SMT is cool. I found the WWE game legitimately funny and neat looking. Freaking dragon punches and low-powered superhuman moves? Looks honestly fun too. Cadence of Hyrule is sweet, if only for Shadow Zelda. I'm meh on the Impa choice they used. Though Skull Kid is cool, especially since it's actually Skull Kid, not about Majora's Mask specifically.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.I'm just glad people that were looking forward to SMTV news got thrown a bone. That game was announced in the Nintendo Switch Presentation in January 2017, so this is really good stuff.
SMT 3 remaster looks cool, not that I have much experience with the series.
Everything else is just whatever. I'm sure there are people are excited for the things I didn't care about.
Goddammit, Schezo...I've seen some interesting speculation on other boards that various Nintendo workspaces are not on the Cloud and that with a great deal of editing/production being moved to the home thanks to COVID has greatly affected their ability for stuff like Directs. The evidence isn't entirely concrete, but it would explain why a great deal of the scattershot marketing this year.
Still waiting for a Legion of Losers movie...I'm pleased with this Direct. Bakugan was such a low bar so it wasn't hard to top.
When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your griefI'm completely baffled that the Japanese Direct had more content but that was removed from the Western version, despite the missing games getting releases. As much as the virus has legit messed up marketing, Nintendo has still made some questionable/dumb moves this year.
-Witty line-Hunter: I’m aware that Neptunia VII drops in a week, I just thought that we’d get something saying that it was coming in a week.
Anyways: I am not excited for either the wrestling game or the shooting game. I guess I’m just completely not interested in most of the games the western game industry is making at the moment.
You know, I have to wonder why Pit is obsessed with this site. It’s gonna ruin his life! One needs to remember that Nintendo can't throw everything into the same direct that they wanted. The IP holders have to agree to the details. If the IP holder says no to it being the US direct, they can't show it. It doesn't matter if it's in the JP one.
Koei Tecmo EU tweeted about their game later on, and told them to watch the JP direct. What's awkward here is that Nintendo would certainly want the advertisement too for their system worldwide. Koei Tecmo is a Japanese company first, and that's a EU branch. The EU and US branches may have certain controls over how the IP is used in those areas of the world. A similar thing is with Capcom USA being in charge of the Street Fighter IP. They say how it's used. They are a different branch of Capcom, but still their own entity.
It's best to look at it as companies, not just Nintendo, making awkward decisions. It's most likely wasn't on Nintendo to choose how to showcase someone's IP. It was the IP holders. Nintendo can do what they want with IP's they fully own, but if they don't fully own an IP, a discussion needs to be done to properly figure it out. This is the reason Pokemon has its own presentations most of the time nowadays. It's actually more than one company that owns the IP.
So it's not "Nintendo's decision", it's a decision between 2 or more companies that decide this stuff. And the IP holders have a lot more power in that regard.
...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.Prototype for Panel de Pon 64 discovered.
Nintendo explains how badly the COVID-19 affected them. They are trying to continue their operations in the matter of upcoming games, but they're cautious about this.
135 - 158 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300Major leak of Nintendo stuff, notably source codes for a bunch of SNES games, from 4chan.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."The oddball in this is specifically Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
It's been 3000 years…Well, now that's a massive hiccup for Nintendo (assuming that leak is true, that is). Yet another bad news for them in a year that has been hard for them already.
135 - 158 - 273 - 191 - 188 - 230 - 300
This mini 3rd-party focused direct was pretty disappointing yeah, but I like that they straight up said we'd be getting more of them throughout the rest of the year. Regular announcements more evenly dispersed though the next 5 months will probably do a lot to help ease us out of this Nintendo drought.
Thinking about it now, I kinda wish that was how most directs worked, y'know? A smaller direct every other month to make the flow of info seem more regular. I do like the bigger directs, but the wait for them can be unbearable at times (like now).
