January 31st is when the next quarterly report is going to be released and the next shareholder's meeting will likely be mid-morning February 1st Japan time.
I've also been hearing rumors of a Nindies showcase next week, which would tie in greatly with PAX South.
If there's a Nindies Showcase next week, we still have the week after for a possible Direct.

Switch Indie Highlights video tomorrow at 6 am PST.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."RIP Direct?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Perfect place to announce Sans for Smash.
We are going to get a Direct soon, but it's better to say RIP January general Direct.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."We did have directs shortly after Nindies, I would say the 31th isn't off the table yet.
A Direct has a much lower chance on the 31st thanks to Nintendo's Q3 FY 2018 finacials being released then.
Might happen, but I doubt it.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."I'm just so starved for SMTV news.
The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."I'm more in need of Fire Emblem Three Houses info. It already got delayed from last year until spring of this year and while spring doesn't end until July, April (The earliest it could be released if they really mean spring.) still isn't that far off and we haven't heard anything since last year.
I'm guessing a Direct in February, possibly doing a same day announcement of the Pirhana Plant being released for Smash.
Still waiting for a Legion of Losers movie...Yup. I think that's likely the best option for Nintendo.
Can't wait for Plant.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI'm getting paranoid about Piranha Plant, because while I've linked the game and all that, it keeps giving me the reminder to do it. I've started the process three times only for it to say I did it already.
A reminder of the Switch games that are upcoming:
2019:
- Smash Ultimate info: Piranha Plant, Joker, and the other Fighter Pass characters
- Yoshi's Crafted World
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- Town
- Daemon x Machina
- Animal Crossing
- Pokemon
- Luigi's Mansion 3
- Ultimate Alliance 3
Unknown:
- Bayonetta 3
- Shin Megami Tensei V
- Metroid Prime 4
Here's hoping for info on Joker and the Fighter Pass (still not sold on buying all the characters in one go), Fire Emblem, Daemon, and SMTV. My gut is on Fire Emblem being pushed from Spring to the later half of this year.

Sometimes I wonder if they really do revolve their Direct scheduling mostly around what's convenient for Smash.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.I wouldn't be surprised if Three Houses gets delayed. If there's no info on it in the next Direct, it almost certainly is.
I expect SMTV and Daemon X Machina stuff in the next Direct alongside a same day Piranha Plant drop, announcement of the next DLC character, and maybe Joker gameplay. I don't expect Bayonetta 3 stuff anytime soon and Prime 4 is almost certainly their E3 focus.
This song needs more love. With Joker appearing Smash and the Australian game rating board recently rating Persona Q2, I am expecting it to pop up in the next direct as a 3DS announcement.
Eh, Atlus said around Christmas/New Year’s that they weren’t quite ready to show off SMTV just yet, but we’re hopeful that they could before too long. So if the Direct is in the next two weeks, I don’t know that’s aid get my hopes up about that. I’ll be presently surprised if I’m wrong, but I don’t really expect to hear anything until Spring time
PSN ID: FateSeraph Congratulations! She/TheyIn terms of Three Houses, considering that Fates came out like not too long after it was announced, I don't think that Three Houses'll be delayed. Instead, I'd expect the schedule to be a trailer revealing more info next Direct, then a big info dump before it launches in Japan, then it's Japan launch if not a simultaneous launch in all or most countries, then maybe if that is the case E3 2019 having trailer for the English version and then the English version coming out somewhere around Holidays 2019-Beginning of 2020. Besides, it was announced at the January Fire Emblem Direct in 2017, then fully revealed at E3 last year, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was nearing the end of development.
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.NPD reports for December are out.
There's a reason why I'm posting these here:
Note: Before I go on, NPD Numbers are specific to the US and only for retail.
The Switch was the best selling hardware of December and just barely beat the PS 4 for the best 2018 hardware sales.
For the first time since 2009, Nintendo was the best at software revenue.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the best selling game of the December, was the fifth best selling game of 2018, and broke the record for best launch month for an exclusive in terms of dollar sales.
New games, Super Mario Party and Let's Go Pikachu rounded out the top 20 best selling games of 2018 with evergreens Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, and The Legendof Zelda Breath Of The Wild beating those at 12th, 15th, and 18th places respectively.

"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Smash is just... I knew it was going to do ridiculous numbers, but this is a tier beyond ridiculous.
Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Hey, did America not get its own Nindie video? The only one I've found is the UK one and, well, America and the UK don't always get the same release date for things.
I hope people sit up and pay attention to Smash's success - this is how you make a fighting game. None of that nickle and diming, day one DLC bullshit.
Hopes for a Direct this month might have just died. Nintendo of Japan released a video about Piranha Plant's release date (the end of the month I think?).
Edit: It actually might just be a reminder to register for it.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? That seems more like a video telling you how to claim your free code for Piranha Plant. The date is the deadline.
By this point, I honestly don't think we're getting a Direct this month.
