[up] Judging from the profiles, it seems like most of the Fahamel natives are human. Maybe that means Fahamel's a predominantly human kingdom?

[up]Yes actually, though the population was still fairly diverse.

[up][up][up]Well, I do like racial diversity, but short of that, character diversity is pretty cool too (and probably more important anyway). Taken from that perspective, it seems like our lineup is actually pretty diverse so far. If everyone will forgive me generalizing, we basically have a ranger, a paladin, a scoundrel, a mercenary, something I'm going to go ahead and call an Iron Mage/Soldier, a dancer, a monk/blacksmith, and a merchant. Sounds like a diverse and interesting group to me.

If there's any question toward diversity, it's more likely in that alot of the characters seem to be very much Lawful/Good, and most of the others seem to have 'Good' somewhere in their alignment. Which, I don't consider much of a problem really. Alignment doesn't quite equal personality, so even with that, there still looks to be alot of personality differences between the Lawful/Good characters. Also, early perceptions are dangerous, so I might just be completely wrong in my assessments of everyone's alignments anyway.

...Uh... All that said, what I'm saying is, I think we have a neat lineup thus far, and I like everyone's characters. So, yay.

I'm not complaining really, I do like all the different characters we have here, it's just that I was expecting more variety when it came to the races.

And if you look at it from a certain angle then we have two Paladins even if Phantom isn't quite associated with them. tongue

Any obvious undead would be killed on sight by Crail's resistance. However, if s/he were to disguise this they'd be able to get close enough to attempt diplomacy (naturally the resistance has dudes who can cast detect undead).

What I thought would work best is for the character to meet the resistance (or have already met them) during a confrontation with Galdur's undead, so they would see first hand that he's clearly not on Galdur's side. But that could work too.

Anyway, I just got back from work and need to go work on something else first, then I'll get to the character sheet after that. Expect it in another hour or two.

THE SLORG!
#59: Jan 5th 2015 at 11:07:59 PM

And here he is.

  • Name: Rarkell.

  • Age: 1 and a half, formerly 36. (Effectively 37)

  • Gender: Genderless, formerly Male.

  • Race: Skeleton, formerly Lizardfolk. (He is under the impression that he is a lich, though whether he actually is a lich or just a plain undead skeleton I'll leave up to Eachiunn.)

  • Appearance: A bleached white, Humanoid skeleton standing at 6'2". Skull is elongated and lizard-like. Fingers end in claws. Feet are digitigrade and end in claws. Spine extends past hipbone into a 4'5" tail that drags along the ground. Has no eyes, but two small, dim, blue lights are visible in the eye sockets at roughly where the pupils would be when looking forward.

  • Occupation: Spellcasting thrall, formerly barbarian warrior.

  • Personality: Rarkell tends to be distant and grumpy, in a near constant frustration with his current state of being and the events that led to it. He always seems to be ignoring what's going on around him, though in reality he's usually paying more attention than it seems; he just doesn't usually feel like commenting. He lightens up however, whenever in combat or discussing combat.

  • Weapons/Spells/Staves:
    • Staff: A plain wooden staff reinforced with some metal bands. Rarkell can channel magic and spells through it, though actually tends not to.
    • Cold aura: Rarkell is perpetually cloaked in a magical aura of coldness, though under normal circumstances this provides no defensive benefit or potential harm unless someone stayed within hugging distance for an extended period of time. But, he can channel more energy into it to extend the effect out to a maximum of ten yards, slowing everything besides himself, and potentially causing great harm to anything vulnerable to cold.
    • Ice spike: Rarkell's main offensive capability, a foot long spike of magical ice that shoots from his hand as fast as an arrow, with much more punch though a lot less penetrating power. The spikes are not actual ice, so humidity and temperature are not factors in their function; they slowly dissolve away into nothing, taking about a minute to fully disappear.
    • Dark bolt: A similarly used spell of pure negative energy; though the damage it causes is lower than ice spike, it does have the advantage of being impossible to block without magic. However, since it is negative energy, Rarkell mostly just uses it to heal himself.

  • Noteworthy abilities:
    • Undead: Like the Warforged, Rarkell no longer has need to eat, drink, sleep, or even breathe. He requires time to regenerate his magical energy, which goes faster if he 'rests'/meditates, though he remains fully conscious the entire time if he does so. He is also likewise immune to most forms of status effects, though has the distinct disadvantage of having a vulnerability to any kind of holy magic, including healing spells. On the flip side, most unholy magics and negative energies actually provide him a benefit.
    • Innate magic detection: Rarkell is still getting used to telling one magic apart from another, but he can't not notice magical things near him now. (Unless they're hidden from detection in some fashion, obviously.)
    • Limited magic manipulation: Something he is having an even harder time getting used to, but Rarkell is capable of interacting with any magical field or stationary spell on a magical level; thus he can, potentially, change or dissipate/disarm any he comes into contact with.
    • Martial combat teaching: Rarkell no longer has the physical strength or fortitude necessary to be an effective barbarian, but he still remembers how to be one, and can train others in his old techniques.
    • Culinary skills: He knows how to cook a variety of sweets and baked goods, despite not being able to eat; and despite having never had the desire to know how to.

  • Other equipment:
    • A dark blue cloak, his only piece of clothing.
    • A metal lockbox, a bit smaller than a shoebox, which he keeps in his ribcage, secured in place by some leather belts.

  • Backstory: Rarkell was born and raised in a savage Lizardfolk tribe in the swamps at the Western edge of Fahamel. He grew to become one of the tribe's best champion barbarians, and personally led their warriors on raids against trade caravans in the area on more than one occasion. Known for his brutality and cunning, life seemed good for Rarkell. Even when the kingdom started to fall to the undead around them, Rarkell did not worry; surely the undead would not dare to march into the swamps against them. Nobody else had dared to, after all. A year and a half ago, Rarkell was proven wrong, and died as his village burned around him.

Much to his surprise, he awoke the following day in the company of a young Human vampire. (She was actually over 200, but being turned at 16 had sealed her into her youth forever.) She had traveled to Fahamel after she heard of the undead uprising there, curious to see what it would be like to live in the company of other undead and not have to hide what she was. Morally ambiguous to the conflict itself, (and most everything, really,) she had taken an interest in the dead corpse of Rarkell after she happened upon the destroyed village; apparently she had tried turning him into another vampire, but that didn't work so she settled for turning him into a lich instead. (Or at least, what she thought was a lich.)

Magically bound to follow her orders, Rarkell became the vampire's servant and was taught in the ways of magic; and a bit of cooking. Things continued like this until fairly recently, when Rarkell was told to go fetch something, as he had many times before; only this time, when he returned to the small manor they'd been staying in, the vampire was mysteriously gone. After waiting for a couple of days, Rarkell realized an opportunity in a loophole; he was bound to bring the item to his master, but didn't know where she was, so he had to go looking for her. She had never given him any orders regarding Galdur and his undead forces, so if Rarkell just happened to sow a destructive path of revenge against them while looking for his master, that would be alright, wouldn't it?

  • Other: No, the item in the box is not magical nor is it important. It's actually quite mundane.

Oh, sign-ups aren't open?

Either way, if they ARE open/will open soon, is there a chance of my playing as a fellow necromancer, or something approximating a necromancer like Galdur? And a follow-up, would our character necessarily need to have been alive during Galdur's beginning rise to power?

[up]It is incredibly unlikely that the Resistance would allow a Necromancer into their ranks. Also, since Galdur's been in power for a little under a decade, your character will have to have been alive during his rise to power to be accepted into the game, unless you choose one of the shorter lived races.

  • Name: Hardy Algandin
  • Age: 125
  • Gender: Female
  • Race: High Elf
  • Appearance: "Ready for sword times!"
  • Occupation: Blademaster
  • Personality: Hardy is best considered as "eccentric", which comes into play due to the fact that she's also a bit of an oddball due to her rather unorthodox thoughts and seemingly slightly ditzy manner. She tends to think about things that no one else considers and has a rather active imagination, to the point that she is considered "someone who has their head stuck in the clouds". Due to this she is broadminded and receptive to a lot of things, especially strange quirks and phrases that she often mangles. Despite all this, she is at heart a very kind and helpful person that does her best to help others. When in battle though, she becomes a lot more focused and serious, the very image of swift and deadly efficiency.
  • Weapons/Spells/Staves: Hardy has on hand the vaunted Mithril long sword formally titled the Al-Sana-Ralandi (Great Forces Blade). Unfortunately for the magical weapon capable of storing a fraction of all the kinetic energies of prior sword swings and unleashing it all in one big burst (capable of easily knocking someone of Hardy's general shape and mass across a large throne room with little trouble when charged at full power), the Blademaster went and nicknamed the sword "Pushy" for convenience.
  • Noteworthy abilities: Hardy, despite her slightly ditzy demeanor suggests, is a supremely able swordswoman that has earned the title Blademaster a few decades back. She is scarily competent with all manners of swords; and to a lesser but still formidable extent, spears, daggers, and bare-handed fist fighting. Her favorite blade though is the long sword/hand-and-a-half sword, which she is able to wield with either one or both hands depending on the situation. Her own personal style was created after extensively traveling the lands and learning the various basics techniques from schools of swordsmanship as well as cribbing things that she deems works from her opponents or fellow adventurers during her long life. Eventually she streamlined the style to become "fast, versatile, and creative", a free form school that has no set standard move and whose techniques revolve on basic yet unorthodox techniques that chain well together to perform punishing combos. Besides this self-made "Hardy School of Swordsmanship", Hardy has the ability to enter a sort of hyper-focused zen state of mind once she properly gets in the groove and allows her to fight with maximum efficiency and minimum loss of power. Both outside and inside combat, Hardy is incredibly acrobatic and lithe, even more-so than the average elf. She is also a capable forager and knows a bit of the ranger skills such as trap making, camping, sneaking, and cooking with wild substances across a long range of territories.
  • Other equipment: Hardy also equips the light armor Viridian Shell over tough direbear leathers, the former of which is enchanted to gradually repair itself over time when out of conflict and the latter of which is durable enough to blunt normal arrows enough to for said projectiles to cause just bruises instead of piercing through as in the case of more common treated hides.
  • Backstory: Hardy is not a typical High Elf. Raised by a human warrior who stumbled upon her being left out in the woods, Hardy grew up under the tutelage of an independent and forward thinking ex-adventurer who proceeded to give her a foundation for strangeness that she would eventually grow into. After she tried adventuring herself at the age of twenty, the adopted High Elf then wandered the world driven by curiosity and wanderlust and accumulated a lot of experience in her travels- which were often much more strange than the average adventurer's too to boot.

I decided to join in anyways, so, here it be.

  • Name: Leos Torluck
  • Age: 74 (officially 54)
  • Gender: Male
  • Race: Formerly Human, currently Undead
  • Appearance: What he looked before death does not matter much since nobody truly knows, not even Leos himself. Six feet in height with a lean build and graying hair, considering the look of the corpse his now is, but corpses tend to not be very identifiable after a few decades of decomposition. What little muscle-mass he had had since shrunk away, leaving his graying skin as tight as ever, and his so-called hair has fallen out in clumps to the point of near-baldness. Pitch black eyes in sunken sockets and several nasty ripped scars scatter his body. He still wears the clothes he died in, faded and dirty robes that were forcibly cut at the knees. He's also missing his left hand.
  • Occupation: Mage
  • Personality: When he was alive he was fairly upbeat and friendly while still maintaining a strict and uninterested demeanor. Death merely soured him, turning him from polite yet anti-social to bitter and sarcastic with an underlining self-preservation that comes off as selfishness. He treats his enemies worse than his allies, though, so that should account for something.
  • Weapons/Spells/Staves: Aside from the tall gnarled stick he uses as a staff (a cracked amethyst stuck to the top) and his small arsenal of spells, his most noteworthy trait is the fact that his left hand had been replaced by a pseudo-prosthetic; a leather socket to fit around the stump with a long blade sticking out from it. Said blade is slightly enchanted to not be tarnished or broken easily.
  • Noteworthy abilities: Leos has control of several powerful spells at his disposal, though with his focus being on quantity over quality, he is not very good with many of them. Control over fire, lightning, and water to an extent, some healing knowledge, minor manipulation, conjuration, illusion, and the like. (I'm not the best with spells so some artistic license/help might be needed with them).
  • Backstory: Throughout his childhood, Leos always believed he could be something more than a Lumberjack's son. Someone grand enough for the history books, one to rival even the most outrageous legends! His father always dismissed these fantasies, of course, wanting him to follow in the family's footsteps. The following altercations drove Leos away, he joined a traveling circus, and etc. During his years in the circus he became close friends with the resident fortune teller, whose predictions state of Leos' future success and probable fame. During his travels he was able to pick up several small spells and implement them into a few of the acts, but eventually he was replaced by someone older, tougher, and more magically inclined. At the town he was dropped off in he quickly enrolled in the one academy he could and begun his training as a wizard/sorcerer/mage/whichever. Skip ahead into his adulthood, subtract one hand and add in a kick-ass replacement, and Leos is on his way to his dreams. He has learned dozens of useful spells, although his pursuit of knowledge has left him absent-minded and greedy, so he has learned very little of the spells he's collected. He had begun dabbling into a bit of Necromancy just as Galdur's rise to power began, and despite his efforts to hush up his studying, he was not quick enough. Galdur swiftly laid waste to him and his fortress, leaving him to rot beneath the ruins. And rot he did for a good while (around 20 years), before Galdur returned to resurrect the dead mage with the thought that his time being dead has weakened him. It did, but the burning hatred for Galdur had grew within his soul, tethered still to his body even through Galdur's interference. Now controlling his reawakened corpse, Leos fled quickly from Galdur's ranks, seeking out the only possible person he heard tale of that could stop such a threat.

But more pertinent is that there's some timeline inconsistencies. Galdur's only been in power for 2 years or so.
